Superb South Station Australian Tenderloin! Juicy yet not too marbled. Japanese Steaks of varying marble are on the menu. Service team are very professional and knowledgeable on the different cuts of meat and the menu. They are exceptionally polite and friendly, thank you Vin and Britt! The Ambiance is sophisticated yet relaxing. Exceptionally good wine menu for pairings. Highly recommend the flame seared Cauliflower florets with the steak. The Camembert Cheese Cake with Panna Cotta and gelato are unique and a delightful way to end off a most enjoyable dinner.

My wife arranged a birthday lunch here and it was a good lunch. Service was friendly and staff even arranged for a slice of signature cake. We had the tomato with mozzarella, and duck breast as starters and both were fresh. For mains, we ordered the flank steak and the ragu with tagetalle. The flank steak was tasty, but a little hard, while the pasta dish was bland and a tad one-dimensional tastewise. Desserts of red velvet and chocolate cakes were very good, though the pear and banana pie was a bit of a let down. Overall, it was a good lunch. The place was packed and, as a result, noise levels were very high and creating an intimate or quiet meal was impossible.

We enjoy our first dining experience at Origin Grill. We had 3-course meal with steak as main course plus baked potato with sour cream and chives. The price is reasonable for the set of menu we have chosen.

Decent price for a 3-course lunch at a top hotel, but apart from the amazingly light yet crispy pastry, the rest of the food was only alright. If we were to come back, it would be for the ambience and service, and not much else. Caveat: we didn’t eat any of the beef or seafood dishes due to preferences / allergies - maybe you’ll have better luck with those

Phase 2 Heightened Alert, so only takeaway allowed. Ordered 3 course set meal for lunch. Self pick up. $32 nett. Wanted to order the steak option but chose the wrong option. I thought that I ordered the right one as the system asked for the doneness of the steak which was misleading. The email was sent to my junk mail and I didn't check it. Called the restaurant and the manager so gracious to offer to prepare the steak and send it to me for dinner! I definitely couldn't accept his kind offer, but I gave feedback on the system. Anyway the beef pasta was good ! Update (10/7/2021) : Returned to this place for the steak. Self pickup. Service was prompt and stellar. Food was packed neatly. The beef cut of the day was so delicious. The dessert was excellent and portion was generous! Update (28/7/2021) : Returned for the 3rd time. The Westholmes petite tender steak was delicious. Dessert lovely. Service consistently stellar. #Phase2HeightenedAlert.

A fantastic dining experience awaits at Origin Grill & Bar. We enjoyed our Christmas dinner here. We ordered Western and Japanese meals. Food quality was good and the dishes were well presented. Service was thoughtful and friendly, keeping an eye on our dining progress, refreshing our drinks and clearing away our plates when done. Origin Bar's ambience was elegant and yet, intimate and comfortable.

A handful of attentive staffers looking after the dining room. Handed us their small select menu. Order bits of everything for sharing and we enjoyed our meal thoroughly. Japanese cuts of steaks were a little to rich. While the Bangalow pork chops was my personal favourite. As were the buttered asparagus and floating island.

Located in the Shangri-La hotel, this upscale restaurant serves a wide selection of steaks in different cuts as well as seafood, pasta and vegan dishes as alternatives to steak. Service is impeccable and none in my dining group if 20+ got their dishes wrongly served. Love the chocolate soufflé! Be prepared to spend more than $100 if you have steak with wine. Worth a try for that special occasion.

I came here for the Tomahawk but they don't have the cut available for couple. Was a tad disappointed and ended up choosing the prawn risotto and an Angus ribeye cut with creamy spinach on the side. The food was overall good, but not fantastic. The de-shelled prawns while convenient for eating, look more appropriate for a low end restaurant than an upscaled one. The restaurant was pretty quiet, it has a nice view both at the window side and inside the restaurant. Pretty good for a night out for romantic dinner. I'd recommend to call and ask for the cuts available so as not to be disappointed. They restock every Tue/Wed according to the server.

I’ve been to this place multiple times, during my first visit I was introduced to their signature Rangers Valley, which was great and has been my choice in the subsequent visits. This time we thought of trying more premium cut, hence we went for the Kagoshima and Yukimuro, unfortunately it was rather disappointing. If you have tried other Japanese wagyu premium steak elsewhere, you would agree with me. Another disappointment was the lack of range of salts. They used to have unique salts like the black / yellow / etc. which I love having them with the steak vs. the sauces, unfortunately they don’t have them anymore. All they have now is just regular table salt and himalayan salt. I am still giving this place a 4 star and will be back just to have the Rangers Valley.

The bread served before the appetisers were huge! And warm and soft. Although maybe the outer crust might’ve been a bit hard to tear apart. Appetisers and mains were decent except the beef tartare (idk texture didn’t feel right) and bangalow pork chop (breasty and dry-ish). Service by Dinesh and his team was great

A worthy venue to bring a date for special occasions and quality conversation. If you wish to order the tomahawk for 2 pax, it will be better to call in and ask about availability. We were disappointed that it wasn’t available and had to order other dishes instead. The other dishes also shone! We had the prawn risotto, ribeye and creamy spinach, positions were acceptable but for big eaters, you may need more food. Prawn risotto was full of umami, and the steak was perfectly cooked. I’ll come back for the tomahawk!

My husband and I came here to try the lunch set offered during restaurant week. Everything was amazing. The salad had the right amount of sauce (i really hate restaurants that overcoat sauce) with lovely combination of vegetables, avocado, nuts and cheese. I ordered a medium steak and it was cooked perfectly - truffled mash potatoes were to die for. My favourite was the dessert - great balance of textures and wasnt too sweet. We will be back!

  • 5/5 TheKidfoodie 7 months ago on Google • 56 reviews
The prawns were quite intelligent and well presented. It had good flavour and good balance. Prawn was succulent and the sauce gave it acidity and balanced out the richness. The lychee also gave it sweetness. It is awesome. The steak was also very tender and the sauce complimented it perfectly. The tartare was ofc my favourite becus it had acidity and it’s was not too rich. The bread crackers also had a crispy texture to it. What I like about this place is that the set lunch menu changes so it has variety. On top of that, servers were so nice and they regularly checked on us. Good job!

Had New Year's Eve lunch buffet at Origin Grill, and the overall experience was a fantastic way to end 2023. Food - We managed to sample everything Origin had to offer in their New Year's Eve menu and it didn't disappoint! Seafood dishes were very fresh, the roasted chestnut soup was sooooo surprisingly good, and the beef mains were tender, juicy, came out perfectly as requested (medium) and paired really well with the potato foam and truffle sauce on the side. We were stuffed from the buffet but that couldn't stop us from devouring the desserts because that panettone pudding and ginger noir were delicious to say the least. The restaurant and atmosphere were really beautiful, with plenty of natural light streaming in from the floor-to-ceiling glass panels. I'm sure the night ambiance would be pretty awesome too. Service was impeccable. Dinesh, Yatin, Vin and the crew took extremely good care of us, were very forthcoming with recommendations for food and drinks, displayed attentiveness and grace during service and made our whole dine-in experience fun and pleasant. Really enjoyed ourselves and the food and will definitely be back again!

Very nice ambience. Modern and relaxed design. The service was good, however i did wait a long time for my food and the steak i ordered came overcooked and dry. The waiter was kind enough to send it back and also gave complimentary desserts. Although the service is good, their kitchen does need a bit of work. Special thanks to our kind waitress Pei San!

Excellent service and great recommendations. Had my dinner celebration for my wedding anniversary as introduce by my friend. Nice ambient. It was a great evening due to the excellent preparation of the beef steak and services. Special thanks to Vin for her great introduction on the Wagyu beef platter and how well the beef steak is to be done. The Western Australia Octopus is also a great appetizer. Thank you Yantin for the fast respond service in attending to our table and reset our table for next dish. The Wagyu beef platter has a good mixture of steak with their own character taste. It goes well with Red wine and popcorn sauce but the beef steak goes best with some salt which bring out the real taste. The platter go in a sequence from Hakkaido Snow-aged, Olive craft Wagyu Striploin, Thank you Shoban for the great hospitality and recommendation of the wine for pairing. The complimentary Velvet cream cheese is great. Most important, my wife is very happy. Will be back! ??????????

Origin Grill came highly recommended but frankly it was a bit of hit and miss for me. The service was average, perhaps due to understaffing or someother reason, but for an establishment of such prestige and pricepoint, I must say that theres lots of room for improvent in terms of attentiveness. The food was also a bit of hit and miss. We ordered the char grilled octopus, and it was just shy if superb. There was just a little too much char on the octopus, resulting in a slighly bitter and somewhat gritty finish. But it was succulent, fragrant and tender. Perhaps the chef could have removed the excess char before serving. The foie gras was disappointing. The cherries were too tart and not sweet enough. The foie gras should be valled pate as it was more of a paste reshaped than a cut as expected. Overall the dish was too dry and unbalanced, lacking in sweetness or salt to offset the mineral taste of liver and plain sourness of the cherries. Now on to the maincourse. The steaks were up to expectation, the snow aged wagyu exceptionally juicy and well marbled. Perhaps the plate would have been better complemented with some sweetness and acidity in the accompanying sides to cut through the fat of the wagyu. The dry aged wagyu (m5+) was unfortunately over cooked and over charred. I had to send it back. The GOOD thing though was that the wait staff were very polite and accomodating, and the kitchen sent out a near perfect steak the second time around in record time. Kudos to that. All in all, this meal was a bit of a miss for me with inspite of some highlights. For the price that the meal was charged at, seriously, there is plenty of room for improvement and a whole lot of expectation to live up to.

The 3-course Executive Set Lunch at S$34 was good value for money. The appetisers were interesting and tasty. I had the wagyu flank for the main course. It was nice but not great - but there again, for the price we paid, it was more than decent. The cakes for dessert were outstanding - especially the chocolate fudge cake and the velvet cake with nutella.

As we are currently staying again in Shangri-La we arrived without reservation about 7pm and were told they were fully booked. We took their other option to dine the same menu in the bar and even the beginning of the dinner started fine with warm bread, fun bar snacks and a polite waiter with a clever leather apron supporting the atmosphere, the whole night was unfortunately underwhelming. The wine was nice and we liked the old fashioned cigar club atmospehere until the steaks were finally served and we were totally forgotten. The price of $314 was unfortunately not justified as the steaks were just ok (I had ordered mine medium rare and it was at least a medium, more like a medium+ but there was absolutely no one to talk to about it unless attending to the bar ourselves & My husbands tenderloin tasted a bit burned, which is embarrassing after waiting for so long that we did in a half empty bar) . Nobody asked about salt, peppper (both would have been needed for the mash) or even toothpicks were not brought to table after the meal, even it's a bbq restaurant. The big portions and the neglectance had affected so much that we weren't on the mood for the dessert anymore but I can comfortably say that nothing was so special that I would dine here again nor recommend it to anyone of my acquaintances with the price requested as even in super the overpriced Finland where I'm originally from, you can easily get a normal bottle of red and a couple of ok steaks with way less than EUR 200+...

Had lunch at Origin Grill while waiting for check-in. Service was good but their food left me confused on two occasions. We ordered 2 of their set lunch with an extra grilled octopus for starters. We were a table of 2, but bread basket came with 3 pcs of bread.. hmm (how to split?) The flank cut of the steak (as part of the set menu) was a tad lean, and didn’t have a good mouth feel to it (don’t get me wrong, I love lean cuts but this was much drier than usual) The highlights of the meal were their corn soup and dessert. Their dessert was unassuming on the menu (i couldn’t even remember the name of the dish), but it wowed me due to this light sponge texture and their whipped vanilla yoghurt was a good pairing.

A pleasant meal marred by neglectful service. The meal started out well, and the staff were polite and engaging, but plates were not cleared promptly and after waiting over ten minutes for coffee/tea, I reminded the staff, and waited another ten minutes without getting it. I left without getting it eventually.

It paid to be persistent. We got turned away the first time because they were full and we didn't have a reservation. However, we tried our luck the second time and we got in. The staffs were polite and professional except for a slight delay of our dessert.

We had an excellent meal, compliments to the chef, and the waitstaff were attentive. We had the grilled octopus to start, which was fresh and the morrocan dressing worked well. The Kagoshima wagyu and Ranch Valley Black Angus were both on point, done medium and each bite was flavourful (no photos as we were a tad hungry). Special recommendation to try the Champ potato, a delightful blend of green onion, olive oil and whipped potato. We ended off with the twisted lemon parfait, which was a spot-on blend of sweet and sour, and a good mix of textures. Will be recommending Origin Grill to others for sure!

Had the 3 course dinner. Portion is a little small, but enough for me. Love the octopus, but I’ve had better beef. The beef here is more to the lean side, and would prefer it to be slightly saltier. Overall, still a good deal.

Lunch at the origin grill is relaxed, comfy and the closest we’ve got to feeling like being on holiday for a while. The set menu is not too expensive and i found it was a good balance of delicate tastes with the starter of pate and fruits whetting the appetite; while the hearty burger with veg and a sunny side egg delivered the rich flavour needed to close the deal. The ambiance was nice and relaxing which may have been aided by a nice wine, and the service was prompt and attentive. Overall it was a nice lunch and a good treat if you feel like you’re in need on one.

Just alright only. Had higher expectations. Cold chicken rice was interesting. But it's just all downhill after. Dessert just sweet and soggy. Service fantastic. Front girl hostess maybe not.

Fantastic service and good food as part of restaurant week: quite small portions (dessert actually was relatively large compared to savoury courses or maybe it just felt so as I am a rare person who doesn't really like chocolate) but all courses were tasty plus some interesting cocktails

I only have good things to say to about this restaurant. Service was professional and impeccable. Food was yummy. My favourite was the grilled octopus. It's one of those flavours that stuck in my brain craving for more. Just wondered why we haven't found it earlier.

Had the 4 course festive degustation dinner set menu at Origin Grill. Everything served was on point (especially the bread basket & first entree) except for the main course which was slightly underwhelming. Service was prompt and restaurant atmosphere was good. Price point was value for money at $88++ per pax. Recommended for special occasions.

Visiting them for the first time, good ambient and enjoyable setup. It will be good for gathering due to the spacious setup. The food were delicious and filling. However, they may need to work on been flexible to serve when they try to ensure all the mains were serve at the same time when not all the guests having multiple entees. But the staff were very attentive to our requirement and always there to meet our needs. 😉👍

Nice western grill restaurant inside Shangri-La hotel Singapore. Service is great, food taste and presentation is good. The fried Mac and cheese in the set lunch menu was fantastic.

Really good value set lunch. The snow aged wagyu tasted really good. The starter was decent but the dessert was delicious. Great that bread and tea is also served as part of the set lunch. Definitely worth a visit.

We did not order any wine nor beverages but the services given was still top notch. Food was amazing. The T bone was cooked the way we like and other dishes were good too.

Had the 2 x set lunch (available on weekends). Food here is very good and we enjoyed ourselves. Service was also very attentive and prompt. The ambience is a huge plus too with cozy mid century modern vibes.

We celebrated our wedding 💍 anniversary here. From the moment we arrived, it was a real pleasure and great dining experience. My steak 🥩 was done just right and the side dish (creamy spinach) was perfect. The service was impeccable. The restaurant also kindly provided complimentary dessert 🍪 to top it off. Overall a great evening to remember.

Steak and grill and bar at the side. Nice embiance both for meal and drink. Steak cooked in perfection for the day, would expect better from the caeser salad. A flavourful beef tartar as a appetiser is a good start #fonzfoodjournal #steakngrill

We came for restaurant week and it was such a great meal. It’s our second/ third visit and the standard is very consistent. You can expect great service and your palate to be tickled. Special shoutout to wait staff Paul who was friendly and made the meal a more enjoyable one.

Dinner date at Origin Grill on a weekend night. We had the Charred Octopus and Hokkaido Scallop as appetisers. The octopus and scallops were on point, fresh and charred perfectly. I had the steak while the hubby ordered the prawn risotto and we ended the meal with two desserts - raspberry fondant and floating island (Soft meringue served with passion fruit creme) paired with port wine. If you are someone who likes your steal medium rare, go for the tenderloin cut. Total bill came up to about $360 for two pax for two appetisers, two mains, two desserts and 4 glasses of wine.

Celebrated anniversary over here. Service is great, they all are attentive. Food very big portion. Hokkaido scallop: soup too sour for me but just nice fr my hubby. My hubby like the scallop alot Boston lobster: very fresh, but need to open urself for the clam part. Will be great if it is already pre-opened Lamb rack: very big portion, meat is tender, sauce is sour for my liking but I like the carrot alot! Prawn risotto: not a fans of risotto but this is nice! Everything in this dish is nice! Dessert: nice! Like all the desserts! They gave a complimentary choc cake for our anniversary celebration as well! So we ended up with three desserts hahah

Came here to celebrate our anniversary pretty recently. What caught my eye was the aesthetic of the place, domes were infused into the architectural design. As for the dining experience, we received recommendations from the service staff on the items to order. We eventually landed up with the Bangalow pork chops and Five Founders along with a side of Japanese pumpkin. Sadly, it wasn’t the most impressive. Pork chops was smattered in sauces and the pork crackling wasn’t up my alley. Certain portions of the Five Founders were tougher than others and the pumpkin wasn’t as sweet and flavourful as it looked to be. Although they did surprise us an anniversary cake, it was drier and unremarkable. Would I come back again? Doubt so.

A restaurant with nice decor and tables that are well spaced out. Moet, our server, was both attentive and very helpful with the steak recommendations. We decided to order a Rangers Valley Pure Black Angus Striploin and a Yukimuro Snow-Aged Wagyu A4 Striploin as our main course. Both steaks were grilled to perfection, slightly crispy on the outside and juicy inside. The Yukimuro was some of the best steak we have eaten. The starters were good and dessert yummy. Will definitely be back again.

Origin Grill at Shangri-La Singapore has garnered significant hype, but my recent visit left me somewhat underwhelmed. While the ambiance and service were top-notch, I found the steak, often touted as their star attraction, to be less impressive than expected. The flavor and tenderness didn't quite match the reputation. However, if you're seeking a well-rounded dining experience with impeccable service, Origin Grill has its merits, but for a truly exceptional steak, you might want to explore other options in the city.

Origin Grill had an old world classic European charm to it. It also boast n in-house grill and selected cuts of meat. Strongly recommend the seafood bisque, grilled octopus, and the prawn risotto. For the steaks, you can choose your own sauce. The red wine sauce can be quite heavy if u pair it with a MS9+ wagyu. 👍🏻

Restaurant week menu includes a salad, pumpkin soup, steak and dessert. Generally OK but not wow. Good for couples or business luncheon.

Forgot to mention that it was someone's birthday so do let them know. Loved the steak without the charred surface but friend preferred the charred surface more. Ceviche was a little sinewy but it was free flow appetisers so it gets a pass and it was our favourite dish. Sweet corn soup was yummy and do try the crab cake, foie gras, salad and truffle Mac and cheese. Beef cheeks were very fork tender. Come for your special occasions for a special treat :)
