Sushi Ayumu hits the mark for all its courses and sushis (except for one - read on) but it is disappointing, based on its price point, in terms of its presentation and variety. To clear the air, Chef Masa is not based in Singapore so you’re not paying for him. We chose their $198 menu for lunch and had around 10 courses and a dessert. There are no issues taste-wise but you wouldn’t be surprised either. Expect the usual series of Tuna (akami, chutoro, otoro, negitoro, hand roll), Mackerel, Uni, Hotate and Ikura sushis. Quite a lot of Tuna now that I think about it. The only way they tried to be different is by way of an incredibly unappetising looking Uni sushi. It didn’t work out well, in my opinion, with sort of a bitter aftertaste and I sorely missed my usual briny tasting Uni 😔. Presentation in terms of the chef’s skills are also lacking, with the young chef disappearing behind to the kitchen to retrieve the few pieces of already sliced sashimi. He doesn’t interact with the customers as well, but I wouldn’t fault him for that. Perhaps it is a language barrier issue. Overall, I had a good experience but I do think there are better choices out there if you’re willing to spend around $200 per pax for lunch. Thank you team for the great service extended.

Dinner at Sushi Ayumu by Masa Ishibashi. It was our 10th Anniversary dinner so I decided to choose my wife's favourite, Japanese cuisine, omakase! The course started with beautiful appetizers, they were light, sour and elegant. It definitely makes us want more of the good food. My wife loved the grilled scallop in seaweed, it was simple but the smell of the grilling penetrated the crunchy and fresh scallop. It was heavenly. The seafood, sashimi, I especially like the otoro, the rest of the seafood was very fresh and crunchy. There was also ikura+uni rice, the creaminess from uni, saltiness & texture from ikura together with the flavourful rice was a perfect match. Dessert was Hokkaido peach and honeydew. Overall service was flawless and quality was great. For the price, I was hoping to experience more exotic seafood, variety is lacking. We chanced upon this sushi-ya and were pleasantly surprised with the quality and flavor profile presented. We have since come back thrice. There are two dining areas, with one chef being more explicitly amiable, but both have equally great skills. Besides top-grade sashimi, hot dishes are also well executed - grilled fish remain moist and hot when served. The seared tuna could have been charred for longer, and fish diversity could still be expanded.

In the realm of sushi in Singapore, this establishment could very well top the list. Yet, indulgence comes with its price; our omakase experience for two, accompanied by their house sake, exceeded 1,200 SGD. The chef's graciousness and the staff's professionalism shone through, especially in their attentive care concerning my partner's onion allergy. They went above and beyond to ensure no dish included onions. However, I did note a lapse in their plating consistency. While we were served our abalone dish on a standard plate, our neighbors received theirs on an exquisite abalone shell. Perhaps a minor detail, but when investing at such a premium, consistency is expected. The bounty of dishes ensured we left so satiated we could scarcely move. The impeccable service from the amiable chef and the affable staff remains a highlight.

This is a favorite go-to for omakase lunch. We have never been disappointed. Service is excellent from greeting, through the meal to send off. Chefs that we had each time were professional and polished. We were fortunate today to be served by Nakajima-san, the Chef de Cuisine. Each item is sufficiently introduced without undue fluff. Waitresses are unobtrusive, yet always there for every need. Items served vary each time. The hand rolls appear regularly and are very good. We had a charcoal charred mackerel today that was very good- clean fresh taste with a wonderful char on the skin side that is totally in a different league from a blowtorched aburi. The layout is worth a mention. Small intimate room that seat a maximum of perhaps 3-4 couples along a counter. We have had the place to ourselves on previous visits. This time there were 2 other couples, with 2 chefs and 2 waitresses in attendance. This lends to a very personal high touch experience.

Wonderful experience at Sushi Ayumu by Masa Ishibasi. Superb food quality in this sushi house. We ordered Yayoi set and worth every penny we paid for this experience. Staffs are attentive and reservation is easily booked through Chope.

(Adding new photos of the omakase I had in dec 2021. I was here in June 2021) Fantastic omakase dinner at Sushi Ayumu. The quality of food and experience was superb. Over 20 items to sample over the course of the night - I left very satisfied.

Awesome experience at Ayumu, which is located where Hashida used to to be before move to Mohd Sultan. The restaurant also has a private room as well as two counters for other customers. Went for the Omakase set, and ingredients were as premium as it is fresh. The sushi was great as expected, and for me the take on yusheng as the first course as well the the luxe version of chawanmushi were a particular highlight. Service is impeccable, and the friendly Chef and well as waiting staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome. It’s a premium restaurant with premium prices, but well worth it for the food and level of service.

I am always skeptical with gourmet sushi places in Singapore. Today, i am very please to know this high end place that meet my expectation. Material are prima and also the execution is perfectly done! Chef knows how to manuvering with its best materials. All is in balance. Including sake choices meet my preference. Not pretentious with dificulties in making reservation. Happy and recomended.

Aesthetically pleasing, fresh ingredients and the menu that the chef has curated is definitely master-class level. There is a unique taste with the sushi rice that connected perfectly well. One of our favourite is the Hotate ( scallop ). Head chef Shintaro-san has definitely up the level of Ayumu.

Had a great Omakase lunch alone at Sushi Ayumu by Masa Ishibashi served by chef Shintaro. Excellent service and superb food. Please refer to the photos for the full course of Yayoi, except the miso soup, which I forgot to take photo. Everything is beyond perfect and I really enjoyed a bit of indulgence in the middle of the week. Definitely worth every dollar. I made reservation on Chope, rather smooth. Quickly after I made reservation in Chope, relieved WhatsApp message to confirm whether I have the vaccination tick. I arrived on time, my seat and table have been well setup, right in front of chef Shintaro. It’s an art to observe how he prepared food. Overall a wonderful experience, will bring friends to visit again, maybe try dinner next time! p.s. just a tiny suggestion - If the staff can help to refill my teacup timely or even change to a new teacup so that my tea is always hot and fresh, that would make the experience even better😊 thank you!

We went for lunch and took the $480 omakase set. I was quite excited to try this location but There were a couple of misses and inconsistencies that I expect to hold the restaurant to given the price of the omakase. Service - Overall, the service staff was very attentive. They kept our drinks filled and explained every course and was very friendly. The wait staff also kindly recommended sake that matched our taste profile perfectly. Another huge redeeming factor is the restaurant took our feedback and acted on it quickly. More of that in the note below regarding food quality. Food Quality - This part was a I was a little surprised that the sushi service was some what served in an “express” fashion. Meaning - that many pieces of fish were cut in advance of the the actual course and left on the countertop. I expected that at that price, the fish would be cut per course and kept cool to as a fresh a state as possible and not exposed to air for oxidation. Hence the prawn felt a little dried and the uni was on the countertop for more than 30 minutes before it was served. The mini uni don course, sadly was very fishy - and we returned it. BUT huge plus points for the staff taking it back and serving a new box of uni. However, redeeming courses was the abalone, half urchin shell with uni (seemed to be from a different box of uni and was served immediately, not after sitting exposed), ankimo, a yakiniku styled course - but instead of beef it was served with toro sukiyaki sauce egg yolk and shaved truffle on top. Overall - it’s a bit of a go at your own risk. I do hope the restaurant reconsiders the preparation and serving style of the the omakase and the quality of the uni shipment (saw a few others comment that the uni was not fresh).

I regret to share that my recent omakase experience was the worst I've ever had. Despite opting for the most expensive option, the evening was a complete letdown. Firstly, having only one chef to serve 4-5 groups seemed counterintuitive to the essence of an omakase experience, where personalized attention and interaction with the chef are typically highlights. Furthermore, the pace of the meal was slow, and the time it took for each dish to be served was unreasonably long. This significantly impacted the overall enjoyment of the dining experience. Additionally, during the meal, we were requested by the staff to move our seats slightly to accommodate another group of customers, which further disrupted the flow and comfort of our dining experience. Additionally, the lack of explanations for the dishes further marred the experience. The chef simply presented each dish, stating the name of the fish, without providing any additional information. This lack of engagement not only failed to enhance the dining experience but also felt like a wasted opportunity for a more enriching encounter with the culinary artistry. Regrettably, the situation reached a point where my party and I decided to pay the bill and leave mid-meal to salvage what was left of our evening. It's worth noting that we were charged for only one person instead of two, but the quantity and quality of the food, as well as the overall experience, were far from justifying any fees. To add to our disappointment, despite indicating in our reservation that it was for a birthday celebration, the evening turned out to be a disheartening and memorable letdown.

Lunch at Ayumu, our most frequently visited sushi place for omakase. Ingredients are fresh and consistently good. Chef Shintaro’s sushi is the best.
