Had a chronic pain at my gluts due to an old injury while playing badminton a year ago. Chiro didn’t really help much so i thought i will give the award winning R4 method a try. It was a short program with Coach KK. Was assessed and then taught the release techniques to alleviate the pain. The exercises were simple yet effective! KK was v patient throughout the program and her instructions were easy to follow. She demonstrated great knowledge about the muscle mechanics and also handled my queries pretty well. Not sure why her initials are KK when she’s called Kah Hui. But ya, kudos to KK and the staffs at FTI. I sure had an enjoyable and enlightening experience!

I had a free trial session in Functional Training Institute and it was great! Facility is clean, modern and well-equipped. Regine. my assigned trainer, was fantastic, as she was engaging, motivating and made the training fun. Exercise program design is personalized, done one-on-one and includes all elements to make the training effective. The exercises were enjoyable, easy on my joints and current pain points but were very challenging. Overall, an exceptional experience!

I have been with Functional Training Institute for more than 5 years now. As I age, I find myself with aches and pains from all the jogging and bad posture. At one time, I had to walk down steps and slopes sideways, one step at a time. I couldn’t squat too. Now, I’m at not at 100%, but I can take steps and slopes normally. Functional Training Institute is like a big family. All the trainers are nice and approachable and always helpful. I enjoy going there to train and would recommend for people who have aches and pains, recovering from surgery and also athletes who want to better their game.

Had neck pains for years and went to FTI to seek help. Justin is a highly skilled technically and very client-centred coach. He differentiates himself from other trainers I had in the past with his deep listening skills and compassion to understand my problems and goals. I feel that Justin truly cares for me as a person, as I am able to reach out to him outside of our training sessions with any questions and concerns. He consistently replies with great advice and care, frequently providing on-the-spot solutions to any physical ailments I raised. I feel deeply supported by Justin and the Functional Training Institute. One of Justin’s key strengths is that he can quickly and accurately identify root problems by systematically assessing and identifying weaknesses in my kinetic chain. He is then able to immediately provide effective solutions to my neck pain and other strains. I always love the homework the Justin gives me to do on my own, as I am confident that doing them will provide relief to my physical ailments. As I strengthened, Justin was able to adapt my workouts to my fitness level. No one training session is the same, and the variety of workouts is something I find fun and greatly enjoy. To this day, I still practice the releases and exercises that Justin has taught me to keep myself in good shape and pain-free. I had suffered with chronic pain for years and am so relieved to find solutions that work. I am so grateful to Justin for empowering me with the strength and confidence to regain functionality and the joy of moving in my life. I would recommend Justin wholeheartedly to people of all ages and all levels of fitness, especially those who are looking for pain relief.

I’ve just started my journey with Coach Elena who is focusing on strengthening my leg muscles and improving balance and flexibility. My knees were not in good shape after my recent trekking in the Himalayas. Coach Elena has helped me to understand my body better and has been guiding me systematically and intentionally. I’m in my third session and can already feel a change for the better.

My experience has been fantastic with the Functional Training Institute, Singapore. Testimonial: I had been suffering from chronic non-clinical neck pain (left side) since end 2016. Gradually, the pain/discomfort got diminished by 85% but the 15% discomfort/ pain had been irritating. It was challenging for me to tie up my hair and keep it for 5 mins. Within a min or so i had to remove the rubber band or clutches as discomfort phase use to begun. I ignored thinking it is better than before. Gradually, due to discomfort and irritation i had to chop my hair so that i can lift and my neck doesn't give me discomfort. I spent lots of money in expensive salons, cutting hair frequently and i felt due to the hair volume the pain exists but it wasn't so. Short hair made my neck feel good but within 1.5 months the discomfort begins and in 3 months Max again the same cycle repeated. Nelson Sir- the R'4 magician 😊 identified the root cause by digging the source of pain- Review+ Release+ Retrain= Results - Within 1 hour my neck pain diminished by 97%. Slight discomfort as need to strengthen the muscles. Change: I am able to tie up my hair without any neck pain/ discomfort. While lifting i can feel my left arm is better- no discomfort. Also, while lifting Kettlebells i could see the change- neck is relaxed. Thank you so much Nelson Sir for helping me to Live+Move Painfree Actively. 15 days have been passed by and i am back to India. During flight, travel no pain 😊 Now, i don't need to chop my hair frequently. 😊 Trust Nelson Sir and the Team. Best wishes always. ✨ ✨ ✨ Thank you.

I started training with Hans at FTI in April this year, after spending more than a year on post-surgery rehabilitative physiotherapy. Despite the physiotherapy which helped me recover from the surgery itself, I struggled to regain control of the activities in my daily life. For the past year, normal everyday life was just a series of limitations and barriers, and simple tasks which I had taken for granted, such as bending down to pick up the dog’s water bowl, carrying groceries or even the simple act of getting out of the car were no longer effortless. Instead I had to brace myself just before getting out of the car, and hope that I wouldn’t hurt myself and end up in pain for the rest of the day. I had tried to return to strength training exercises (which I could previously do) but could not do so without encountering pain. However, my experience with Hans has helped me turn things around. After we began training, it was evident that his approach was tailored to my specific needs. He took the time to understand my medical history, previous struggles, and the goals I hoped to achieve. Unlike my past attempts at returning to strength training, Hans guided me through exercises that incorporated both fitness and rehabilitation elements, gradually building up my strength and mobility while keeping a close eye on pain management. Week by week, I have noticed a significant improvement in my ability to perform everyday tasks. Hans’s guidance and encouragement has helped me to push myself beyond my perceived limitations, and I appreciate his genuine approach where progress is celebrated, no matter how small the achievement may seem. That is not to say that I don’t still encounter pain from time to time, but instead of having to rest in bed and avoid activities for days, I now follow the protocol Hans taught me to release and retrain my problem area, and then continue my day without issue. I wholeheartedly recommend FTI’s skilled trainers to anyone seeking to overcome challenges they are facing with chronic pain and mobility issues.

Past 2 years I had tightness at the hip area. It has affected the way I walk as well as quality of life. I’m glad I’ve met Kah Hui. At the 1st session she was able to identify the root cause and came up with exercises to alleviate the discomfort. After 2 sessions, the tightness has reduced by 70%. Indeed she has exercise due diligence in taking care of her clients! 👏👏I’ll highly recommend her 😊

FTI R'4 training with coaches Nelson Chong and Koh Kah Hui (KK) had been very positive and beneficial experience for me. It has helped me tremendously in relieving my back pain, shoulder pain and other joint pain effectively, due to poor core and muscle strength and posture issues. Nelson did a very thorough assessment on my first session and highlighted many key areas to design a customised detailed R’4 program for me with KK. His advice on improving poor sleep has also resulted in a more disciplined and healthy sleep routine that has improved my sleep quality greatly. Nelson continuously checks in on my sleep patterns and diet, and provided many valuable information on healthy eating habits and right posture that could be causing my chronic back pain. His dedicated guidance delivered in a very affable manner greatly encourages me and gave me hope that my conditions can finally be relieved. KK is a very dedicated, confident, professional and experienced coach when analysing, planning, and executing the whole program in stages of release and retraining exercises. When I was unsure of any release or exercise routine, she will always take time to help me review and emphasise the correct steps and posture. Her professionalism and patience have impressed me and I am very grateful for her high quality training. She is ever ready to address all my queries and requests. I greatly enjoyed all my sessions with her. I am confident that she will be able to help many people like me recover from all our chronic pain and improve on our core strength to prevent pain recurrence, where we were unable to find relieve elsewhere. A big thank you to Nelson & KK!!

Great knowledge on releasing muscle tension and strengthening of muscle groups for improved daily activities. Each time I seem to have an issue with muscle tightness and immobility, Nelson never fails to identify the issue and to fix it. Recommended for people who have physical issues but cannot seem to get it sorted!

Matthew has helped me tremendously in overcoming the pain in my left shoulder. He's patient and takes time to understand my issues and uses the best method to treat them. He always explains the reasons behind the treatment in both scientific and layman terms. He constantly checks back with me how I'm doing during the week and encourages me to do the exercises on my own. I really appreciate his help and advice! Thanks Matthew!

My trainer Issac was knowledgeable, patient, and adapted my training towards my lifestyle so that I could do what I learnt in their gym outside of it. Training was practical and catered towards my needs, and all the trainers were generous with their advice, with a real intention for customers to get more aligned, balanced and strong.

I have been training with my personal trainer Jack for 1.5 months. I find him to be meticulous and methodological in his training approaches. Regular routine training aside, one of his fortes is the recovery and release exercises. Any chronic pains, be it the back or heel, Jack has the remedy exercises ready instantly for you. 😃

My husband & I started with FTI almost 10 years ago when we were in our 50s with common complains of knee, back and posture issues. Over the years under the training of Nelson and his experienced team, our issues were fixed and we made remarkable improvements in our overall fitness. I have on many occasions been complimented by strangers asking how I maintain my fitness. My husband's golf has also improved and more importantly, he has learnt to prepare his body before & after each game thus enjoying it pain free! Convinced by our fitness, our 3 daughters and their spouses/partners gradually started training at FTI, Recently, my 9 year old granddaughter signed up for the 40 day transformation program making FTI, a gym for 3 generations of our family! We are so thankful to have FTI in our lives and we look forward to continuing our enjoyable journey with them. Thank you Nelson, Karen, Joseph, Jack and everyone at FTI for taking such good care of us!!

I have been training at FTI for around 4 months now, and I am thoroughly impressed by the quality of service and help I have received at FTI. Before joining FTI, I had a slip disc issue and always felt muscles tightness especially on my lower back area. I got to know FTI through a friend, and i am glad that i was able to meet hot trainer Nelson He is very friendly and patient, in answering my questions and helping to solve my back pain issues. After just 4 months of training, I have felt tremendous improvements to my lower back pain issue. From the start, Nelson has tailored a training programme to help me strengthen my muscles in my lower back area, and prevent the injury from worsening. At FTI, their motto is "knowing why you are doing what you are doing" and Nelson explains to me clearly why I am doing the exercises he teaches me and it gives me a better understanding of my issues. The environment at FTI is also a very welcoming and friendly place. I will strongly recommend FTI to anyone who is interested in keeping fit/solving their pain issues. Thank you FTI !

I was having chronic neck and back pain for months and was referred by my friend to FTI. Nelson who is the owner of FTI gave me slot immediately although his hands were full. The review session with him was thorough, detailed and comprehensive. I was able to understand my underlying issues and problems. Subsequent trainings with him have been satisfying as I am able to manage my pain. I highly recommend FTI for those having sports injury or chronic back pain.

Attended a workshop by Nelson on how to release trigger points on the lower limbs. Thumbs up definitely! Nelson is a dynamic speaker and instructor. The 2.5 hour session was very educational and informative. Hands-on techniques taught on how to release trigger points in the lower limbs using a vibrating roller were most invaluable.

Had a rehabilitation coaching with Sam last week for my neck issue, which was caused by long working hours of bad posture and habits. Did posture analysis and consultation with Sam to identify root causes of the neck issue. He then shared useful exercises to reduce the muscle stiffness, as well ad tips on correcting working posture. After the session, I received the detailed report on the issue, root cause as well as how to correct them in future. Great thanks to Sam! Highly recommended

I’ve been training with my PT Kirtan for the past few months and it was definitely what my body needed after training for years with less than optimal form. He isn’t a typical “bro science” trainer, and is someone who is knowledgeable in his field. He was able to give me good advice while also guiding me in training the correct way. I now train without unnecessary pain and soreness making my training sessions much more enjoyable and productive!

Attended Nelson's workshop on Active Self-Myofascial Release for Lower Limbs on Sun 26 Jun 2022. He came from a place of wanting us to recover and reclaim our life. Showed the usual solutions for those with knee problems, shared unwilling people who became patients and reclaimed their mobility and their life, pain-free. Even though our workshop had many participants, we were partnered up and the before-and-after assessments we did made things real. That his past and current clients agreed to be recorded as case studies to be shared with us speaks a lot about effectiveness -- they really reclaimed their life from one of pain and disability.

I attended a comprehensive consultation and assessment session last week with Kirtan who immediately put me at ease with his friendly disposition! During the session, he conducted an assessment of my posture/movement by guiding me through a couple of exercises. He was patient and reassuring, all while sharing his knowledge of functional training. Following the session, he also provided a detailed explanation regarding some of the issues I was experiencing, along with annotated photos/videos he took during training. I highly recommend Kirtan and the Functional Training Institute to anyone who's looking to stay pain/injury free in the long run!

I was suffering unbearable Neck, Shoulder & arm sore & pain for almost 335 days. My friend who had been thru treatment from Functional Training Institute, had recommended me to sign for Project Give, a complimentary session provided by FTI to help those who are suffering pain & discomfort like me. After I signed up, the response by FTI trainer was fast and with some mobile consultations, I was allocated a time for the session on the following day. I was attended by Coach Tan Long. He is very patient, experience & knowledgeable. He started off with a review of my body and explained the cause of my pain point. I was treated and was well taught with some simple exercises to improve and strengthening my muscles. Although it was my first experience with FTI, I was amazed by Coach Tan Long. I believed my pain will soon be gone.

I’ve been practicing judo for many years and unfortunately had a meniscus injury, followed by surgery 4 months ago. After surgery and physio, my mobility was unable to fully recover which then i seeked Tan Long’s help to figure out what contributed to the pain and mobility problem in my knee. In a single session he was able to regain stability and reduce my knee pain so that i am able to go back to sports! Tan Long is a great professional and used specific methods, studies your case carefully before selecting the exercises. I also appreciate that we can communicate easily due to our shared interests in martial arts. Thank you very much to him.

I was pleasantly surprised by the experience. Coach Tan Long patiently listened to my problems/issues I was facing - recurring pain in certain joints in my daily routine and post-exercise. He proceeded to analyse the possibilities that were causing them and did some basic tests followed by detailed explanations. It was a productive session, and I was able to do my workouts more effectively (with lesser/zero pain). Knowledgeable coach with genuine concern to resolve your issues. Thank you!

Tried physio and sports massages before but Tan Long was really effective in the assessment of the core issues and retraining to help my shoulder and postural problems through proper alignement and muscle activation. I found the retraining aspect super useful and his approach more holistic than other health practitioners. Highly recommend Tan Long as his approach was very holistic and effective.

Had an amazing injury analysis and treatment session with Tan Long! Was so amazed at his depth of knowledge and attention to detail! If you are looking for a guy that would take down every ailment and analyse your injury down to the core this is the guy for you! Very glad to have went down and his different modes of treatment once again shows how knowledgeable he is even though I was just there for a short time! Post treatment exercise and conditioning were also given and would definitely recommend Tan Long to all for a detail injury analysis and holistic treatment therapy!

I had a keyhole surgery for my meniscus tear and after the surgery, my Dr told me I can forget about returning to Aerial yoga. I was so devastated. I started physiotherapy and diligently do my exercises. However, progress was not that fast. My friend recommended me to try out at Functional Training Institute. Both Coach Hans and Coach Jack were very encouraging and also knowledgeable in the rehabilitation area. They helped me to release the pain I had in my knee after surgery and also got me to retrain so that I can strengthen my muscles. I was finally able to return to Aerial yoga and I am even able to do my pole now. Really happy. Now I still continue going because I will troubleshoot with my coaches whenever I have pain issues and they will guide me along on how to release and retrain. At the same time, I continue to build on my muscles and I'm more tone and fit now.

Enjoyable and helpful experience. I’m a boxer and I sustained a shoulder injury during one of my competitions. Tan Long gave me a detailed diagnosis of my shoulder injury and suggested a series of rehabilitative exercises to ease the tension in my muscles and methods to strengthen them. I’d recommend giving this place a visit if you need help with rehab or increase sports performance.

FTI training has been incredible for my physical rehabilitation. After just a month with trainer Elena Teo I feel an increase in stamina, stability, flexibility and energy! She is knowledgeable, a great instructor and very intuitive to work with. On our first session Elena immediately identified things about my posture and weight distribution that I didn't know was hampering me, and put together a routine that inducted me onto this exciting journey of posture correction, muscular rehabilitation and functional movement. I'm making great progress in our weekly sessions and am excited to continue my rehab journey with Elena !

Was introduced to FTI through a friend for my aches and pains. My instructor, Karen, is very attentive and tailors every session to my individual needs. I particularly appreciate the balance between the “release” and “retrain” segments, which helps to ease body tensions and build strength. Karen takes videos/photos for me every week to review my progress and to help me remember what I’ve learnt so that I can do it on my own at home. Am now more conscious of how my relatively flat feet affect my overall posture and am working with her to overcome this for a better quality of life!

Super thankful that I was recommended by a friend for a consultation with Nelson. I was experiencing pain in my left arm and shoulder for around 4 months until I met with Nelson and his team. Just after 1 session, and me doing the exercises I was taught conscientiously for 1 month, there is now close to zero discomfort around my arm and shoulder. So thank you again!

I have been suffering both knees pain for 7 years . Currently for past 6 months pain , tightness and pain on my left knee was getting worse . I have tried many pain relieving machines , plasters , cream, oil , knee guards , supplements etc but still suffering from Pain as my bone at knee joints was badly degenerated with osteoarthritis . While watching Facebook , I came across Functional Training institue (FTI) video on Webinar on using 4R managing pain . Told myself to check it out , hence I attended the webinar by Nelson . I am very glad that I made the right decision to see him on my pain which affecting my sleeps, daily activities , mood etc I saw Nelson and Karen at FTI . Both of them are very professional , experienced , skilful and patience , I can see they have the best interests in their heart to help clients like me to relief pain . Karen has super fingers that by touching my left lower leg , she knew exactly where were my pain points , Karen patiently and skilfully address each of my pain points without I telling her the locations of my pain. After the session , my body felt lighter and much lesser pain that I could continue to do some exercises on my upper and lower body to retrain and strengthen under Karen’s guidances and encouragements. I look forward to the sessions . Another point , FTI also brought in very good products for their clients who need it , for me I experienced the usefulness of percussion massager device - wow it is indeed worth buying , Neuro ball , special Masaage Socks etc . I am sharing from my heart on how this devices have help for my home use and complement my sessions at FTI I do not have any personal benefits from this sharing just simply wanted to share from a grateful heart my personal experiences on my pain journey . Lastly , your staff members are friendly, one early morning 6.15 am I was lost on how to enter the building to go to FTI , she ( sorry forgot her name ) readily walked me to the place Thanks to Nelson & Karen From Dorothy

I decided to try the 21 days programme at this studio after listening to the webinar conducted by Coach Nelson. I chose Coach Hans to be my PT after reading the reviews. I haven’t been exercising for a while partly due to work and neck issues. I wanted to re-start my exercising journey slowly. I read that Hans has trained seniors and variety of people in different age groups and I reckon that he would be patient. True enough, he was attentive when I shared about my conditions and concerns. He was also encouraging during the session and detailed in his explanation on the exercises that I would need to do at home. I had lots of questions which he did answer patiently. Hans did the myofascial release for my muscles during one of the sessions, and my muscles was less tensed after. It is still an ongoing process for me to improve my condition by doing the exercises that he taught. The studio was a nice and clean environment to workout. The coaches there were friendly. One of them showed me around when I was there for a visit as I was still undecided whether to sign up. I am glad that I decided to try out the programme here!

Just completed my 5th session at FTI with trainer Tan Long. It's been an educational experience to understand the complexity of coordinated movement better, which is contributed by various joints and muscle groups working together. He teaches the importance of training each muscle group to play its part, which has significantly contributed towards alleviating issues I've personally experienced with back discomfort. Tan Long has been instrumental in this process, with guidance provided through clear instruction, demonstration and videos. Would definitely recommend their expertise in this field if anyone is experiencing similar issues!

Hans is very encouraging and passionate about the well being of his clients. Hans trains my son, 2 daughters and I and we all see visible results and improvement and relief from pain. Hans is very passionate about getting us well and he painstakingly tailor fits each of our programs to ensure that the programs are easy to understand and most importantly that we will do the daily exercises to improve our lives on a sustainable basis. For me, he observes carefully the way I walk and has corrected the pressures that I unknowingly exert on my knees when I walk. I feel instant relief and am now conscious of the bad habits that I have had for years. Hans is very clear in his explanations and is also very friendly. My children and I look forward to our weekly training sessions as they have become an activity that is fun and very enjoyable and a necessary routine to our lives.

This is the first time I could feel a tangible difference in pain and strength improvement within one session as compared to the other health practitioners I visited. Tan Long was super knowledgeable and methodic about assessing the cause of my conditions, and administering some practical exercises to demonstrate how they can be alleviated. He will also take detailed videos during the session so you can aim to replicate the exercise at home. Very useful!

I feel stronger in my lower abdomen and legs. Dealing with sciatic pain caused by lower back problems and the pain I experience while walking due to Achilles tendonitis has been a significant challenge. However, since using R4Pain, I have noticed a remarkable improvement. The severity of my discomfort has noticeably decreased. Kah Hui, my fitness coach, has been absolutely fantastic. Her approach is encouraging and gentle, yet incredibly effective. She is very patient and ensures that each exercise is both beneficial and comfortable for me. Thanks to her support and the R4Pain program, I feel healthier, stronger, and much more capable of managing my pain.

Most personal trainers I know tend to focus on body toning and forgetting that for the elderly it is much more important to improve lower body stability, balance, flexibility, coordination and reflex. For a septuagenarian that still enjoys doing multiple sports, my trainer Tan Long is doing a fantastic job in helping me identify and fix some of my muscle imbalances and reengage my mind with spatial awareness exercises. For any elderly who wants to remain physically active and desire to slowdown the inevitable decline of physiological capacity I highly recommend Tan Long as personal trainer.

I met Sam at FTI, Initially, I do not believe what P-DTR can help and I do not even know such treatment exists. Sam was very patient with me clearing my doubts and allowing me to understand better of my body condition. Dietary and postures are just some of the many, I learnt to ensure that the pain going away and speeding up my recovery. Sam is very professional and accurate in getting to cure the acute pain that I was having. With completion of the session, I am able to live pain-free on my body in particular to shoulder and neck. Sam has enlighten me in aspect to my body posture and understanding how my body function. With his expertise, passion and professionalism, he is the one to go to if you are facing any pain or body functionality issues, he will make sure you will walk out from his session with a recovered body.

Teo Kiok Hua I had a wonderful experience with awesome coach Issac, who is really knowledgeable, patient and friendly. Issac released tension on my right waist and thigh and taught me few exercises to strengthen my core and legs, which been recorded to show the difference before and after, and ways of using the trstac roller. It's amazing,my right hip's mobility improved and the back pain subsided after which. I valued the sessions I had with Issac and do my homework everyday and be pain free. I truly recommend Functional Training Institute for those who suffer from pain. Gratitude to F T I and the helpful receptionists. Gratitude to Issac who leads me to live pain free. Gratitude to Ana Sallavuard for recommendation.

I’ve seen Samuel over the span of a few months for a combination of rehab therapy and physical training. All of my major issues and pains have been resolved. Am super satisfied. The first few sessions, Samuel used a combination of PDTR (think treatment of your injuries via neurological means) and traditional physio techniques to relieve me of growing pains in my left leg. Knee pains, hip pains, toe pains were relieved and haven’t come back since. Mostly accumulated these due to poor running habits, and falls from climbing. He also treated my mom and many of my friends whom i referred to him. My mom now has regained the confidence to exercise more routinely with her younger friends and is way more mobile. I’m thankful to Samuel for blessing us with his healing hands! Of course, you need to be willing to do the homework and put in the effort between sessions to speed up the healing & growth!

Planned, progressive, professional training that looks at the twin heads of release (for all the painful areas) and strengthening to help with long term fitness. Trainers are super professional while also keeping a warm, kind and friendly disposition so you never feel intimidated...and they check in to understand where you might be physically (and yes - mentally) each time u come in for session and work to bring you progressively where you need to be. These guys have a plan! By far the nicest and best gym I have ever been to. Great job you guys! Cheers!

I had a range of motion problem with my right hand with a lot of pain. I went to Nelson who had helped my husband with a similar problem some time ago. Nelson was very patient, explained the problem and then released the stiff muscles around my shoulder. He then provided me with training to ensure I strengthen the muscles in that area I now go to FTI for strength training. Nelson and his trainers are amazing - patient, but ensure that i push myself to my limits. I can feel myself getting stronger. The center itself is very clean with a very modern look. The exercise equipment is also very well maintained I would strongly recommend FTI for both rehab and strength training

I had physiotherapy with Samuel Hsu- such a great therapist. From the sounds of it, the methods may sound a little hocus pocus as it's not your conventional physiotherapy. But I would urge you to go in with an open mind. Samuel managed to find the roots of my pain and also fixed it- truly magical and highly recommend it. You have to try it to believe it!

Best physio and functional trainers in Singapore, would highly recommend them. Learnt alot taking courses and training PT with them. Tools they use are very functional and time saving as well. Would highly recommend taking their DMZR course. To this day, I still use their techniques before I do my workout. Trainers I trained with Nelson, Jack and Hans. Very patient and good in giving the que for the exercises. Also know how to resolve any injuries or discomfort in any movement. Highly recommend them :)

With the help of Mattew, I managed to significantly reduce my right rotator cuff pain due to tendonitis and slap lesion, in 8 sessions over a period of 3 months. Prior to seeking treatment from FTI, I had visited three physiotherapists. They prescribed standard textbook exercises which did not have positive effect on my shoulder. One day while trying to seek an unconventional treatment from my aesthetic doctor to relieve my shoulder pain, he immediately recommended FTI to me. He is an avid basketball player and got his bad knee fixed, after multiple unsuccessful treatments with physiotherapy too. How FTI - Mattew stands out from my past encounters:- Meticulous – Even before we first met up, Mattew requested for my MRI report over WhatsApp. In first session, he started off with walking me through my MRI report, explaining and relating medical technical terms to my problem. He has helped me to better understand the intricacies of the issue. My orthopedic surgeon did not explain in that details and the physiotherapists completely skipped the explanation. Empirical – Instead of some standard exercises, Mattew tailored the exercises to my needs. The efficacy of each exercise was tested on the spot. Only exercises proven to work for me will form part of the rehab program. Systematic – In our sessions, Mattew systematically and progressively worked on the different muscles and nerves attributing to the pain. Every exercise was prescribed with a defined duration and frequency. Mattew also recorded the exercises with audio instructions, and provided me with PDF copy of written instructions with grab photos. In every session, we did reviews and the rehab program and exercises organically evolved based on my progress. The physiotherapists just provided me with sketchy instructions. Sustainable – Unlike physiotherapy, whereby the release work are done by the physiotherapists during the session, in FTI, I am taught how to do the release work myself with the tools. The release exercises were done several times a week at the comfort of my own home, and before the strengthening exercises. I could really feel the importance of the release work prior to doing strengthening exercises. Dedication – In between sessions, Mattew would follow up the progress, and based on my feedback, he would plan out how to tackle the stubborn problems during the sessions. The physiotherapists just plan on the spot. Professionalism – Mattew communicates politely, effectively and professionally, even when using WhatsApp. He is punctual and focused during the sessions. Perhaps my luck, but I had a very chatty and two pretty quiet physiotherapists. I hope with this review, people who are looking to fix their problem, will be able to benefit from FTI program too.

I had three sessions across the span of two weeks with Samuel. I have been pain free since the treatment (which is slightly more than 2 months at the date of me writing this). What is most impressive is that the pain has not reappeared despite me engaging in a very heavy running regime (100+km for 10 weeks) almost immediately after treatment. I’d definitely recommend PDTR treatment with Samuel. Initially, I was skeptical. But the process was painless and Samuel patiently guided me through. He helped me understand my condition better, potential causes, and gave very good recommendations with regards to stretching exercises and nutrition, which I still follow till this day.

I started going to FTI because of the constant back pain I have due to my Scoliosis. I have tried both Chiro and commercial gym with personal trainer but the effect was not ideal. I still having on and off back pain and sprain my back easily. I have consulted doctors and they said it is normal as I am aging (I am not even 30!! =.=!!!). Then, I know FTI through the recommendation from my friend and I am very pleased with the result. Big thanks to my trainer Jack, and secondary trainer Hans. They are both very knowledgeable and professional. They are very strict with the form and always reminded me about where and how should I form my posture when working out. I am truly grateful that they made many positive changes in my life, making me stronger, healthier and improve my overall fitness. Truly recommend FTI for those who wants to be stronger and be free from body pain!

I started training at FTI 2017 and I still look forward to my workouts each time. The trainers make your session interesting with different emphasis on functional and other gym workout to balance areas you need strengthening. I have issues with my back, knees, shoulders and I find it helpful to have them address my problem and teach me to manage them with less pain. I find FTI improves my yoga, skiing and snowboarding with balance, strength and body awareness. Kudos to Llyon, Jack, Nelson and the rest of the team at FTI! They are knowledgeable and a friendly bunch. Btw the cleaning aunty is number one in my books! She is very hardworking getting the gym cleaned, sanitised and ready for our use everyday. Thanks Aunty!!

True to its name, the focus of FTI is to help its customers regain proper function and posture. They're not a hard core gym and the programs are designed to help daily folks like me. It's nice to see ages ranging from children to the elderly working out and a wide range of fitness levels. I started out because I had a chronic shoulder pain that wouldn't go away. I highly recommend my trainer Jack. He listens carefully and is patient with me. He is always professional. He releases the knots in my muscles and then trains me for coreect posture, flexibility and strength which is useful for someone like me who jogs for leisure. Other than my shoulder pain, he's also helped me address my knee pain and back pain successfully. Highly recommended.

I’ve been to many places including ortho and chiro but my pain persisted. Until my friend recommended me to FTI. My trainer, Karen, has been extremely patient with me. Not only does she share with me ways to get rid of the pain, she makes sure I do it at home as well by sending me how to videos. Nelson (founder) also assessed me to see my progress. They are not stingy in sharing the methods and will make sure you master them in case you do not have time to go to the institute. I have only been with them for 5 sessions and am almost pain free! I believe if I were to be more diligent, it could have been earlier. Thank you FTI!

I started going to FTI because of pain in my knees. I didn't expect that it would be resolved as quickly as it did, but my trainer Hans has been great at helping me relieve the problem. Have been going to FTI for several years and it"s one of the best investment I've made. The gym is spacious and spotlessly clean. Equipment are top notch and well appointed. The gym is considered quite spacious, however, with the SMM guideline there are not many slots available for the class. It's quite 'challenging' to secure a slot sometimes. Equipment are good. The gym manager William is very helpful and responsive to my enquiries. One suggestion is to stick with the old schedule for the body pump class during weekend (9am is really quite early haha).

After hurting my back last week, Nelson was recommended to me by a friend who trains with him regularly, and I am so glad I was able to connect with him. Not only was Nelson able to help me regain my neck mobility and reduce my back pain by the end of the session, but he also helped me understand the root-cause for the pain and ergonomic recommendations to prevent the injury from re-occurring. Nelson is extremely knowledgeable, and has excellent communication skills to provide guidance to diagnose, alleviate and prevent pain associated with poor posture. I absolutely recommend his services.

Due to a slipped disc injury sustained back in 2019, I have been plagued with recurrent back pain problem which causing me physical discomfort whenever it comes and go. Tan Long started off with an assessment, followed by some exercises to release the muscle tension as well as to strengthen the body. Throughout the session, Tan Long demonstrated his deep mastery of the subject, by giving a succinct step-by-step explanation of the given exercises. His no-nonsense advice was expertly given, and I was heartened to see that my back pain could be overcome with his tailored plan based on the R4 principles of Review, Release, Retrain and Results. I will definitely be returning to FTI soon when I am more free!

I had a slipped disc condition and underwent surgery over 10 years ago. I was in my 20s then. But condition relapse 7 years ago when I was in my mid 30s and the pain was so bad it affected my daily life. 6 years ago I was recommended to Nelson, FTI and I admit I was skeptical about what he could do to improve my condition. Nevertheless, I took the plunge and signed for a 6 sessions rehab package with him and I have never looked back since. Nelson reconditioned my body and taught me various exercises that enable me to live normally and pain free for a number of years till Covid-19 striked. I slacked off and I started to gain weight and experienced pain again. Unlike the past, I now know where my solution lies - with FTI. I contacted Nelson again and he recommended me to his rehab specialist trainer - Kirtan. Having been with Nelson for years, I trusted his recommendation. Few sessions with Kirtan reconfirmed my trust in the FTI team. Kirtan is very professional and knowledgeable and he is able to accurately identify and work on my problematic issues every session. He has helped me improve my body condition and tailor some basic rehab exercises that I am able to practice on my own at home to ensure I stay in better shape everyday. He constantly chats with me off rehab sessions to keep tabs on my condition and make necessary adjustments and recommendations to further strengthen my body and keeps me living pain free. My sincere thanks to Kirtan, Nelson and the FTI! Keep up the good job!

I have been training with Jack for about a year, to learn how to move effectively with my scoliosis. The past week I got treated by Jack for another issue. Last Monday I felt pain in my right upper arm. It got worse as the day went on, so I went in to see Jack. He told me I had dislocated my shoulder tendon, and did some releasing and taught me how to do it myself. He tried to relocate it but it kept going back out of place. After that session, the pain was still acute and I was discouraged that it would get better soon-- especially as some websites said it would take up to six weeks. As it turned out, I recovered within a week. I saw Jack few more times and he did the same releasing technique, while helping me to test out what movements I could do. He also helped me ease back into exercising the arm. This experience shows that healing is definitely psychological as much as it is physical, and Jack helped me in both areas. I'm super grateful for Jack's patience, care, and encouragement!

Had nagging shoulder pain and was fixed within 1 session. I did not even know I’m suppose to release my forearm to reduce pain in my shoulder. I don’t know what I don’t know which is why I trust Nelson’s experience. Previously I also had a lower back pain while on holiday and Nelson was very kind to send me videos at 5am on what to do to release that pain that allowed me to carry on the rest of my holiday. Nelson and his team truly cares. Highly recommend you to visit FTI if you have any pain in your body.

Its been a year since I first stepped into FTI gym. At that time I was not able to clock 1000 steps without resting my legs; applied at least 4 salonpas on my knee on a daily basis, woke up at night to massage my aching knee. My orthopedic doc recommended me to go for TKR. All due to severe osteoarthritis. Now i can clock more than 10,000 steps with minimal discomfort ,climbed up 12 flights of stairs, and have not used salonpas for months! Coach Jack has made this possible. Thru his specially curated training using 4 Rs method, he helped me to strengthen the muscles that support my knees. Coach Jack pushed me to do exercises that I thought was not possible for me to do. He was also able on the spot to modify some of the exercises that I was not able to do. Coach Jack was able to address any discomfort/pain I felt before, during and after training thru cupping, targetted ‘release’ and exercises. It was not easy for me and I never thought I would say that now I ‘enjoy’ the sessions. Thank you Coach Jack for helping me meet my objective of a pain-free daily life.

Been training with Kirtan for about 7 months. My plantar fasciitis was resolved within a couple of sessions. My lower back pain which was debilitating is now gone. Some weakness and stiffness remain and require more work, to strengthen and stabilize. But I'm delighted that I've been able to return - pain free - to long walks and gardening. Kirtan is encouragingly firm. Firmness on his part is a good thing for me because I would sometimes bargain, often doing so unknowingly out of fear of re-injury. He has sound professional judgement as to when to push, with the sole aim of benefitting my functional rehabilitation. He is, however, also open to feedback whenever I experience genuine discomfort and/or difficulty, and will modify the exercises to ensure my safety isn't compromised while still enabling me to complete my training. I can't recommend Kirtan enough as a trainer!

I've suffered pains on both my ankles for abt 3 yrs. After attending an online session with Nelson & a follow-up face to face consultation with him, a 2-3 lit daily water drinking treatment regime was prescribed. After the 2nd day, i felt the pain from both my ankles miraculously vanished. Amazing !!! I wanna say, a big thank you to Nelson for treating the root of my ankle pain.

I am incredibly impressed with the training expertise of KK and Tan Long, who have been working with my long and gangly teenage son. The progress he has made under their training is truly remarkable. KK KK’s training approach extends beyond just skill and expertise, she also has the ability to connect with younger individuals like my son. Working with a teen, she creates sessions which are not only physically challenging but also enjoyable and engaging. KK works with my son on athlete conditioning drills, which focuses on upper limb coordination, changing direction and speed (to improve on his reaction times), and full body strength conditioning -a routine which is perfect for a growing teen. She also has a meticulous focus on form, and an amazing ability communicate it across to him to help him correct his form. (As background, during circuit breaker in 2020, my family and I used to do home workouts together. And while our son happily joined in, his form was atrocious, and my husband and I had no clue how to help him correct it. Despite our attempts, he would still do his squats with one knee facing 9 o’clock, and the other knee facing 1 o’clock. His push ups involved him bending his arms a tiny bit with his hips moving up and down. We all found it very funny but were just glad to get in some physical activity while being cooped up at home.). We never did successfully correct his form though, so I was pleasantly surprised to observe my son doing push ups and squats with perfect form when he was training with KK, and he was enjoying himself! KK’s ability to strike a balance between challenge and enjoyment is a testament to her skills as a trainer and as a result, we have not only seen remarkable progress in his athletic aptitude, but also in his enthusiasm as he became more confident in his abilities. Tan Long Tan Long’s expertise in kickboxing and his ability to work with teens is truly impressive. Our son wanted to start kickboxing again as he tried it out at one of the larger kickboxing gyms many years ago. The group class environment was fun when he was younger, but he wanted to improve on his technique and skill, and we figured that one-to-one training would be more suited to his needs. Tan Long crafted a training program that caters to my son’s needs, while also addressing his weak core and lack of leg strength. I like that through the training, my son also develops functional strength as well as discipline and focus. Tan Long also placed a keen focus on my son’s running gait. He identified that his gait was uncoordinated and carefully worked to correct his running form. As a result, his running gait has improved, and his running has become less awkward and more effortless, enabling him to excel in other aspects of his training. Beyond the physical aspects of training, I can tell that my son enjoys the training sessions eventhough it is physically demanding, when he comes home and tells me “Do you know, Tan Long says this and Tan Long says that..”, and through the pro-activeness my son takes in doing the “homework” assigned to him. With trainers like KK and Tan Long, FTI stands out as a truly exceptional gym. Their expertise and personalized approaches make this gym an ideal place for anyone seeking to achieve their fitness goals.

I’ve never really found the need for a physio until I signed myself up for a big hike and finally decided to really look into my longstanding issues with my right knee. From the first session, I have benefitted greatly with the help of Hans, who was extremely patient and guided me every step of the way. I see a huge difference in my right knee now and it rarely feel pain anymore. Def recommend Functional Training Institute and Hans for anyone who’s looking for some help!

I was suffering from chronic lower back pain and had episodes of my back going out before i was introduced to Hans Ng. He helped me to recover from the back pain by identifying and releasing the muscles that caused the pain. Through a few sessions of workouts, he worked with me in adjusting my postures and movements. He also introduced exercises that are customised for me to strengthen the muscles that will prevent my back pain from recurring. I am also grateful that Hans is very detailed in his instructions and has been very patient with me.

Had the opportunity to have Ileane guide me on conditioning exercises in the past 4 sessions post-assessment. Chronic discomfort & strain at the left scapula region was relieved in the first 2 sessions. Now to build on the discipline going forward. Keep up the good work with your clients......

I signed up for a package with Tan Long and i’m very happy with the progress. My sessions with Tan Long have helped me so much with knee pain. He was able to pinpoint that it’s due to my weaker hamstrings on the left side and following his detailed instructions, there is no more pain and I can get back to jogging. I’ve learnt so much about musculature, breathing and figuring out my centre of mass so that I can isolate the muscles I want to work on. I was worried because I had never done physical training before, but Tan Long is very patient and slowly builds up the exercises, explaining each step as he takes videos of me doing it. This allows me to check that I am doing the exercises correctly at home. I like it that Tan Long focuses on building foundation rather than reps. It’s much more efficient than exercising by myself and I feel empowered to continue my fitness journey. He also takes the initiative to check on how I am doing with the exercises, so I know that expert advice is readily available. Thanks Tan Long.

Was suffering from chronic pain on my left side which had gotten worse in the past few years. The pain was relieved about 50% during my 1st assessment visit. Coach Ileane had guided me patiently through my 10 sessions and ensured that the targeted muscles are worked to support my weak side. Every session will have different sets of exercises which makes it interesting and the intensity will be increased to build up those muscles. Now it's to build up the discipline to build these exercises in my daily routine. Thanks coach Ileane!

Coach Ileane is spot on in identifying my problems and giving me the right exercise to address them. The pain went away after one session. She is also very friendly and approachable. The training session was enjoyable and not intimidating at all :)

Coach Koh Kah Hui exemplifies exceptional patience and professionalism. Under her guidance, I've not only heightened my injury prevention awareness but also witnessed significant progress in muscle building effectiveness. Her attentive and caring approach extends beyond the training sessions, as she consistently addresses any areas of discomfort and ensures their alleviation. Remarkably, her guidance has even helped alleviate my cold-induced headaches, consistently leading to a speedy recovery post-training.

I had the pleasure of working with Coach Tan Long, and I cannot recommend his services highly enough. I had been experiencing persistent discomfort in my left hip area, which was causing various mobility issues. Tan Long quickly assessed my situation and introduced me to a set of highly effective exercises that provided immediate relief for my hip tightness. What truly stood out to me was Tan Long's dedication to his clients. Despite not committing to a package due to my time constraints, he went above and beyond to ensure I had all the resources I needed. He kindly sent me personalized videos and detailed instructions for the daily exercises, which was immensely helpful in my rehabilitation journey. Furthermore, Tan Long's level of care and professionalism extended beyond our in-person sessions. He frequently followed up with me via text to inquire about my progress and offer reminders to ensure I remained consistent with the exercises. This level of commitment and genuine concern for his clients' well-being is truly exceptional. With his expertise, dedication, and genuine care for his clients, I wholeheartedly endorse Tan Long. If any of my friends or family encounter mobility issues or require rehabilitation guidance in the future, I will not hesitate to recommend Tan Long's services. His exceptional qualities as a coach make him a standout choice for anyone seeking help with their physical well-being.

Five stars. I only have wonderful things to say about coach Nelson, his award winning R4 methodology and excellent staff at Functional Training Institute. My wife had come down to Singapore and took training with Nelson last year. Based on her strong positive feedback, I also took 10 training sessions with Nelson. Coach Nelson understands the physical challenges and prepares a tailor made plan to address these. The muscle release processes he has taught and the training workouts he had me practice will surely help me in the long term when performed regularly. His knowledge about human anatomy is wonderful and the way he explains everything is easy to understand. Due to my limited stay in Singapore, Nelson accommodated his schedule and worked with me on Sunday (which is usually his day off). I was having trouble with the tap water and bottled water in Singapore, so Nelson offered me the alkaline and ionized water in his facility. This had a magical effect and all my hydration related issues were resolved. I will highly recommend to avail the services provided by Nelson and his wonderful team of trainers. Thanks Nelson and team.

I led a sedentary life after 40s with minimal exercise and my physical well-being was severely compromised. Finally age caught up, aches and pain became a constant gnarly reminder of life beyond 50…until I enlisted into R4 FTI and Ileane, my Coach tailored workouts specifically to my needs. She took time to consider my strengths, especially my weaknesses and limitation I may have and ensuring that the workouts are safe and more importantly effective. I am very pleased with my progress and look forward to a pain-free life ahead!
