Marking the end of the autumn harvest, the Mid-Autumn Festival was traditionally a time to give thanks to the gods. It is also a time of year that the moon is at its brightest, which is why lunar legends have always been attached to the celebration. Notably, the story of Chang E, the wife of a merciless king who downed the elixir of immortality he had intended to drink, to save her people from his tyrannical rule. The tale goes that she ascended to the moon after that, and has been worshipped by the Chinese as a Moon Goddess ever since. When dusk falls Since the Mid-Autumn Festival is about lunar appreciation, celebrations go into full swing once the sun goes down. Moon-viewing parties are a popular way to enjoy the occasion, as family and friends sit in gardens lit by the soft glow of paper lanterns, sip tea, nibble on mooncakes, and if so inspired, compose poetry in venerable Tang Dynasty fashion. Lanterns all a glow Children love this festival because they get to tote lanterns. The traditional opt for those lighted by wax candles elegant paper versions or more elaborate multi-hued cellophane and wire structures shaped into everything from cars to cartoon characters. There are also unfortunately, plastic battery-operated music-emitting versions but to each his own. You’ll get to examine the real thing up close at some of the celebrations around the island, particularly in Chinatown where large beautiful lanterns will be on display marvels of creativity, artistry and traditional craftsmanship. You’ll also get to sample mooncakes and fine teas at the street bazaars, watch nightly performances and peek at lantern-painting competitions.

Great place to enjoy an outdoor walk, jog and cycle activity. Many couples and families strolling, cycling or jogging while enjoying the fresh air and wide spaces surrounded by the lush greenery with the lake in the middle. There are ample car park spaces and it is near MRT. Enjoyed the lantern displays of foreign landmarks as well as the Zodiac signs.

It is a beautiful lake that is teeming with life. There are turtles, fishes, ducks and different species of bird living around it. This is one of the first things that you'd see if you came in by train.

I love to explore the Dragonflies here. In fact I did a Dragonflies count with Nparks some years ago. Here there are at least 10 different types of Dragonflies. The most amazing moment was to discovered hundreds of Yellow flatterers above the trees near the north-western side of the eco lake. It was a phenomena not commonly observed throughout the years. Golden yellow flickering in the blue hot air, perhaps nature’s moving canvass.

The Eco Lake is a key feature in the Bukit Timah Core, created in the late 1980s. The landscape mimic the natural swam habitat of Singapore, featuring both back of mangrove & fresh water species. Try to spot for tortoises inside the Eco Lake, simply just look at them swimming make you feel relax.

Staff actively discourages physical activity in the Eco Garden, saying that "adults are too strong, the trees might get damaged". Don't know what kind of trees they plant these days, strawberry generation trees maybe. Only sitting around on picnic mats is allowed. So strongly at odds with national ActiveSG initiatives.

The Dragonfly Bridge is a pedestrian walkway from the Sands Expo building that leads into the Garden by the Bay. The bridge itself is all that interesting, it’s the perfect vantage point for views of the Dragonfly and Kingfisher lakes. While the views during the day are good, it’s best to view it during the night when there is a light show of a multitude of egg shaped sculptures across the lake. The bridge also has great views of the Sands Expo and again, night is best to see the latter building lit up.

A beautiful and large public park inspired by Chinese heritage. There is a smaller section dedicated for a Japanese garden which is very peaceful. The park usually has activities and is almost always packed. Great place for a picnic and to relax after a day of work. Just make sure to check the weather because there is barely anywhere to hide from the rain.

  • 5/5 Syafiq K. 2 years ago on Google
Went here 3-4 years ago. Very memorable. The place was very clean and upkeep was good. Views were great, toilets were clean and I love the spiral staircases in (two, if not mistaken, of) the pagodas. I had an eerie encounter in one of the smaller pagodas. At first, I thought I was alone. Then, I heard a voice. A woman was chatting with someone upstairs. Maybe there were other visitors there. However, when I went upstairs, to my surprise, there was nobody there. And suddenly I heard the same voices laughing downstairs. It was quite chilling, yeah. But this didn’t stop me from enjoying my evening here. I pretended like nothing has happened and enjoyed the rest of my visit. A must visit, this garden is, for sure.

Visited the newly opened Lakeside Gardens with my 2 kids (almost 5yr & 9yr). We went on a public holiday so of course it was super busy. This newly developed area has been done really well. There's a large 'natural' style water play and sand area. Best to bring a change of clothes however it is only 30cm deep. The new playground called the forest ramble is really big and again is a well thought out 'natural' style play area for kids that blends into its surroundings. Good for very young and older kids say around 12yrs. There is a car park available, not listed well on GPS yet but easy to find. You could walk the whole circuit quite easily with young kids. We stayed around 2hrs there but would stay longer if not so busy.
