A lake that I have impression since little. Here we used to catch dragonflies and did our first macro-photography. I used only a magnifying filters for the shots with much distortion. As I grew older, I bought a macro-lens in 2005 and started macro-photography and never look back. Google Insecthunter in Flickr you will find my work. Now, the amount of fishes had increased a lot. One huge bird, perhaps a Hawk or Eagle will snap up a fish everyday. Many avid photographers waited for that one good shot early in the morning.

The lake has nice views. There are always a number of pigeons on the shore you can feed and play with around.

One of the classic (old) parts of the Singapore Botanic Gardens, now a UNESCO World Heritage site. Swans are often spotted here, obligingly gracing the pictures of photo enthusiasts. The lake used to have lots of good sized cat fish likely gone due to the otters; recent fauna includes the occasional large monitor lizard. Do enjoy the lovely mostly shaded walk around the lake's perimeter and visit the impressive banyan tree on its south side.

Simply sitting near the lake and gazing at the swans, turtles and fishes inhabiting this Swan Lake can prove relaxing. Children will love watching the swans swim around and turtles crawling to the shore and swimming back into the lake. This is a perfect picnic spot too.

The lake is located at the Tyersall Avenue entrance to the gardens within the Tanglin Core, and is one of the most well-known locations in the garden's grounds. As the name suggests, the lake's name was inspired by swans populating it. The pair of mute swans was imported from Amsterdam. Added to the gardens in 1866, the lake covers an area of about 15,000 m² (1.5ha). The lake was closed for upgrading in 2003, and it was completed in April 2005 as part of the gardens' Tanglin Core Redevelopment.
