A hidden gem in Singapore, many people don't know (or don't go to) this place because it's remote, however, your effort to go there will be paid of. Half a dozen of art galleries showcasing Singaporean and International modern artists, in a super quite and relaxing environment. The story of these barracks is also interesting and worth the free tour to better understand the place. Galleries are free to visit and people working there are generally nice and welcoming. While visiting you can have a break in one of the cafes and restaurant to enjoy a drink or a meal in an exceptional environment.

A great reuse project dedicated to arts and fresh perspective. The location near the parks allow a walk in nature to contemplate the various art works. I enjoy the history and reuse of the architecture, it does limit the quality of the interior studio spaces, but the combination of new art and older structures ensures something new to see at every turn.

Lovely grounds - green and serene. The old colonial buildings are well spaced out. A green oasis where you can go to escape from the local human congestion on the main island itself.

This place has many small private art galleries. Some modern and avant-garde, others traditional. The art exhibitions will change after a few months so it is worth a revisit from time to time. Admission free. There some restaurants around here, too. A nice place to soak in the artistic atmosphere.

It’s my first time to Gillman Baracks to volunteer for the arts. Gillman Barracks is a very lovely place that is away from the city and surrounded by lush greenery. There are several art galleries to visit. Do give it a try if you love the arts!

Gillman Barracks is a quiet place around the busy Mapletree development area. A good peaceful place to explore some arts exhibitions, nice food at the restaurant, enjoy ice-cream with waffles or a delicious pizza, you will find it here. I had been walking to this place during lunch as well as dinner time. This place is good for people who wish to look for a peaceful place away from all busy crowds in the town. Not far from the city makes this place a convenient choice to explore.

Old British army camp, most of the barracks now taken over by Pubs , F&B eatery , Arts Centre, Arts Gallery. Great place for gathering , you may move from one barrack to another for the night. From dinner, drinking to dessert .

Ordered Asahi and Corona Beers at $11 each. Chicken wings are normal (reminds me that the hawker's BBQ chicken wings are better than theirs), but pork chop is really tender even though its thick (eat it when it's still warm as it turns hard after it's cold). We'll return with friends and even kids cos of the cool decor indoors.

I walked in and around the Hillman Barracks, Singapore,in morning. It was a wonderful walk. Most part you can walk under shed, if it is hot or raining. Public facilities are available and are well kept, during this Covid-19, period. The history of buildings is written, in front of structure. Which makes the walk, meaningful and you explore the history. Presently the buildings are occupied by Singapore College of Arts. The roads are windings on the hill, which makes the sight more picturesque.

Nice art exhibits, would recommend as a date place. It's a pretty empty area, there isn't a lot of people who go there. Though the art exhibits are nice, they are quite small and you can visit most of them in 1-2 hours. Quite a bit of walking too so do take note.

They usually held events, very nice place to walk about. However their galleries are lacking as compared to those from Art Science museum in my opinion (no offense to anybody nor the artist, it's just my own personal preferences). Places have lots of food and beverages to cater to people.

Not really worth the bother unless you’re already in the neighbourhood. A few interesting galleries but the area itself is a bit sparse and soulless. It seems the gov is planning some rehabilitation of the area so perhaps in a few years time it might be more interesting. But for the time being, manage your expectations.

Gallery space in an historic setting.while the Singapore biennale is on there is a free shuttle bus to and from the national galley. Contemporary art galleries, showing a wide cross section of art incl. sculpture, mixed media and video. A must visit destination for anyone interested in Asian contemporary fine art. Some of the galleries also focus on European/American artists.

Singapore is way too hot for things to be so spaced out over such long distances so either visit this place at night or come dressed almost naked but in a lot of sun screen. Not sure if it was the virus but a lot of gallery staff here look so tired of living. Zero conversation, just walks up to you and takes your temperature and scoots right off.

Great place to go to for art exhibitions! I like how everytime I come here (once every few months) there'll be something new for me to see! I get updates from following their Instagram page which tells me upcoming events and new galleries! Also this place is a really great place for Instagram worthy pictures. If you're feeling hungry, there's a bunch of options such as Timbre and handlebar. You could also shop here at the supermama store. Also Gillman Barracks is located a stones throw away from Labrador Park MRT so it's very convenient.

Was there for a wedding photoshoot. If it's raining and you need a place to do your shoot, come here. It's free and there are many colonial style buildings for you to shoot at. You may not be able to enter the buildings but the outside looks pretty stunning. Best of all, the area is very empty and quiet on both weekdays and weekends so you can do your shoot in peace.

I feel like they're trying to make Gilman feel like a Dempsey, but a more artistic version of it. There are many local art workshops and galleries here, and they try to do up a f&b ecosystem around it. Personally can see myself driving all the way here for a few of the restaurants, but not all of them. Experience is also no where close to what you'll get at Dempsey. Honestly though, it's a little inconvenient here, and it will likely stay this way until the Southern waterfront developments are properly done up in the coming decades. Free parking on Sundays though.

This place is worth a visit by art enthusiasts especially if they have the time. It is a short walk from the nearby MRT station. The surroundings themselves are quite pleasant. These are old army barracks which have been well maintained and repurposed to house art galleries. The barracks have been well maintained. The surroundings are very peaceful. A tour of all the galleries can take up about 2-6 hours depending on interest of the visitor. Each building houses different artists. The art displayed is beautiful and is mostly by people living in the region. It is suitable priced as well, as compared to art by Western artists where the price outstrips the art considerably. Sadly I cannot recall all the artists displayed there. The Mizuma gallery and the gallery next to it had some wonderful paintings in the Balinese tradition by twin artists and by a Singaporean artist Teo Eng Seng, whose pieces made of plastic, cardboard and other material really left a mark . The ladies supervising the exhibits did a superb job of explaining the art works. The lady in the MIzuma gallery had experience of looking after galleries, while the one looking after Teo's art still did a lovely job of explaining the art ( she was a finance student).

Would love to come back again. Chanced upon a guided tour on eventBrite (the Art & History Tour held on Saturdays at 4pm) that was only 5% on history but the art portion was unexpectedly captivating. The tour (with all due respect to the docent who was clearly passionate about the pieces) served as a good introduction to the galleries but isn't actually required. Each art piece came with a blurb in the hardcopy catalog in the gallery (but isn't too hard to access online - just need to navigate to the correct gallery's catalog) that pretty much made up the tour content. We ended up having dinner there too (will probably post a separate review on Hopscotch) which was great! Free parking during weekends was an unexpected perk. Oh I did get bitten once or twice in one of toilets by a mosquito (sadly all their toilets are outdoors). May bring some repellent next time
