Saw lots of bloggers sharing their photos of this place, we finally managed to get here to experience this natural park ourselves The route to walk in this natural park is definitely an attraction to us living in Singapore because we seldom felt hot while we walked here between 8 to 10:30, most of paths are covered by trees thus quite chill all the way. There are some ruins in this nature park, seems standing there and telling us some old stories... Can finished all the walking trails within 1.5 to 2 hours. Very nice.

Went on Saturday morning at about 7:50 am and left at 8:40 am. The car park was quite empty at both times. The trails were quite monotonous, nothing exciting. After 5 minutes, the scenery repeats. Some trails were slippery because of the mosses on the ground.

Nice tranquil plan, 2nd visit after the opening. Almost no people, peaceful to home and enjoy nature. Had the whole car park to myself! Can see some macaque families and monitor lizards. Recommended for family walks in the morning or evening Nice swing at the entrance too!

Disclaimer: This is not an abandoned park but the government built a nature park over the old village. Remnants are restricted. I love this small park located at Thomson Nature Park. Why? It has remnants of an old Hainan Village that can be dated to the 1960s Singapore. It was once home for Hainan settlers in Singapore. Some fun facts: 1. The park is 50 hectares big 2. Located east of the Central Catchment Nature Reserve and buffered by Old Upper Thomson Road 3. The park is also home to a number of rare and endangered animals, such as the Raffles’ Banded Langur 4. The park leads to Lower Pierce reservoir 5. Did you know that the Han’s cafe owner used to stay here?

Very cool park with lots of foliage, monkeys, and best off all, some ruins that the jungle has taken over. It used to be a Hainan village from the 1930s that was abandoned in the 1980s and became overgrown. Looks cool with trees growing into the ruins. Trails are mostly asphalt and a bit hilly. There is around 3.8km of trail but kind of interlaced and not a continuous loop. Cool spot to check out for a shorter hike.

The trails were very fun and we took less than 2h to walk every color (total got 5 trails)🚶‍♂️the toilet was very clean and the weather was just nice, not too hot and like what other reviews said, there was nice shade from the trees and cool breeze 😀 we even met a bird watcher who was very kind to let us ask him questions and take photos of his finding, respect for him standing there for 3 hours (we had a mini scare cause we thought he was a statue but then he greeted us 😂) the other hikers were very friendly and even blessed us on our day 🙏 it was kinda confusing which thankfully there were many signs to guide us on where and how to walk 🚶‍♀️ do rmb to wear mosquito repellent cause I saw a huge mosquito on my wrist that just started its meal but luckily I swatted it away so the bite is not that swollen hehe 🦟 there were lots of historical facts and informative signboards about the past dwellers of the area hence, very interesting to think about how we are hiking at places where people used to live at and maybe our descendents will also do the same in future I recommend wear sweatpants cause that's what I wore to prevent bugs and rmb to wear sunscreen 🌞 bring water bottle, tissues/towels and wear sports shoes cause most of the paths are rough and slippery due to leaves 🍃 most animals stay away from us and we saw alot of squirrels, a lizard, many chickens (when we exited from where we came in at the main entrance and during our walk), many insects (dragonflies, moths, butterflies, spiders etc), variety of birds (there were alot of different species when we saw the bird watcher's camera), gang of monkeys 🐒 Story of our lives: we wanted to exit the hike so as I turned to the left, I saw a lone monkey and took a picture 📸 then as I turned to look back to call my friend who had retreated, I saw another monkey 🐒 then far behind, there was a gang of at least 20 more monkeys and that was when I nope'd out of there 🚫 we u-turned the way we came which meant walking uphill but it was either that or a gang of monkeys 🤣 100% recommend coming here as there were not many people ystd late afternoon when we started walking at 3.40pm till 5 plus 💯 alight at upper thomson mrt (brown line) then go exit 5 and take 980 or 167 from the nearest bus stop and alight "Aft Tagore Dr" then walk 5 minutes (200m) in the direction of the cars forward, you will be able to see buildings on your left and that is the main entrance 🙆‍♀ came here because of Confirm Good's article 👍

Lovely and tranquil park. We went just after a rain and the park was basically empty. We enjoyed the whole park to ourselves. There are remnants of the former Hainan Village which survived till this day.

Thomson Nature Park, a new jewel in our lovely Singapore! The 50 Hectare Park opened only in October 2019 and fits perfectly between the Upper Thomson Toad and the Old Upper Thomason Road with various entrances. Inside the Park is a abandoned Hainan village which forms the main attraction. There are 5 trails totaling up to 3.8 Km showing us some of the village ruins but even better the practically untouched Forest Flora. Due to this lots of wildlife with a number of endangered species can be seen.

Although a good park with 2-3 short walking trails outside of the city area, it is still a bit of an overrated one. I will always prefer McRitchie Trail at any time as there's nothing much to explore for more than 1-2 hours.

Our family had an exciting adventure today, spending time hiking and exploring Thomson Nature Park. We discovered the ruins of old houses, encountered some playful monkeys and squirrels, and even met fellow nature enthusiasts along the way. It's truly amazing to experience the feeling of being in the jungle right next to the bustling city of Singapore.

This park is very interesting primarily because of the history of the people who used to live there (including the family who run Han's). Its a real pity that so many of the information boards are faded now so you can't read the history, considering the park was opened not too long ago in 2019. I hope NParks will replace the boards with more weather durable ink. Tips for visitors - At the minimum, do 3 trails (Rambutan Trail, Streams & Fern Trail, Ruins & Figs Trail). - Wear good shoes - tree roots have broken through the paths in some places and it's uneven, and some parts are uphill -Definitely wear insect repellant - It's a quiet park with meandering paths, and lots of shady vegetation which make it a bit dark at around 6ish, so you may want to visit with some company instead of solo :)

It’s very friendly to kids coz it’s not very big and there are lots of mushrooms ,and they can see steams and find squirrels. It’s really like hiking in the forest. Go with your friends and have a lot of fun. Parking slot is few but when we go in the Sunday afternoon, they all empty.

A beautiful nature park for family hike / walk. Good place to get away from the the fast paced life and close to nature again. Well-marked trails to guide the direction. We ddin't encounter any wild monkey inside the jungle. We are lucky on the way back inside the car, we saw one whole bunch of money sit in the middle and side of the road, so please drive carefully.

Very nice park for a stroll and to learn some of the local history of the Thomson area. Good and modern facilities. But do use insect repellent and bring your own drinks or water bottle. Suggest you do the walk in the morning. Beware of the wild monkeys and do not feed them.

A beautiful and tranquil park to go to. Most of the paths are paved which makes it easier for both the older and younger to enjoy it and there are different trails to try. Most of the trails are also shaded and the toilet amenities are very good and clean, including a water cooler. You may even see some wild boars if you look hard enough :)

I have been to many parks in Singapore, and this is undoubtedly the most primitive one. Trees grow into a forest, which feels like in the Amazon forest. The humidity is very high. We met wild boar, squirrel, lizard and monkey here and lot kinds of birds. Harmony between man and nature.

🌳 This nature park built on an old Hainan Village makes a lovely hiking/trekking spot — not too crowded even on the weekends, trails are family/beginner-friendly, most of the trails are somewhat shaded due to the tall trees, diverse wildlife, remnants of the old village are also well-protected & restricted for the safety of hikers & preservation of the relics, information & stories provided on the village, villagers & biodiversity are also insightful. 📍 The park’s pretty accessible — if you’re coming by public transport, there’s a bus stop along the main road that’s 4-5 minutes’ walk to the main entrance. If you’re driving or taking a taxi, drive/take to “Thomson Nature Park Main Entrance”. There’s also plenty of parking space right by the main entrance. ⚠️ Avoid coming here when it’s raining or after it rains as the trails here can get slippery & we’ve seen huge fallen branches on the trails when it rained. Also, besides the main entrance where there are washrooms & resting area, there’s not much sheltered resting spots within the park itself. 👍🏼 Overall highly recommended!

This Nature Park is not as busy nor as huge as others but covering the entire lot does provide sufficient workout, enough to work out a sweat. The ruins are interesting but would be better if there are information boards included. Sighted wild boars & a flying lemur at the last visit: that's a bonus though the Raffles Langur remain elusive!

It is a rather quiet park that offers a few beginner-friendly trails (mostly concrete path; some broken and enveloped with moss). Also, please wear a proper footwear with proper grip. 5 trails in total and all are relatively short-distanced and easy. 2 of the longest trail paths are intertwined at some point and although there are markers to distinguish, it may get confusing (especially for those who are particular about clocking distance, You may wanna use a fitness tracker to track your distance) My suggestion is to do all the trails at one shot (especially if you're a tourist). The main star of this park are the remnants of the old Hainanese settlements (but you can't really go inside). Parking is limited. Water cooler is available (but bring your own bottles). Toilets are clean but no showers or lockers, quite a bummer as I wanted to use the trails for running. Overall, as a seasoned tracker, this park is quite boring tho.

Its relatively small but you will get the full luxury of space by yourself. Generally not crowded, you can see remnants of houses left behind from olden times. Watch out for spider webs and slippery grounds. Advise to wear good hiking shoes for grip. O if you meet other hikers just say hi! We met a couple of lovely elderly hikers.

I really enjoyed this place, and it was quite big, but one thing that I do reccomend is that you wear long socks, as there are lots of ants that will try to bite you in the beginning of the track, as well as lots of mosquitoes. But overall, I think that this nature park is very nice, and me and my family also got to see some monkeys!

Quiet place to take a walk during the day. Wasn't that hot even during mid day, probably due to the shade cover from the trees. The ruins and figs trail brings you past some structures from a bygone era and it's a great lesson for the younger generation regarding what Singapore used to be.

  • 5/5 Chong Zhi C. 3 years ago on Google
Singapore’s version of an ancient forest ruins, the Thomson Nature Park is situated on what was formerly a Hainan village in the early 20th century. Spend an interesting hour or two walking the trails to explore the old village buildings that have been reclaimed by nature.

Very nature, very quiet, very few people,go early if you can...

  • 1/5 Keith Lin J. 3 years ago on Google
This is actually one of the more quiet parks that I've been to. The plus point is that the paths are pretty much well shaded from the sun, but other than that it is just a nature trail and nothing fancy. Didnt get to seen rambutans that this place is known for.. also dont get to see anything else at this place.. did not see any stream or water.. even when we took the stream trail.. maybe that's why there are little people here now.. Ultimately, thought nothing special here.. but it is still another place good for a stroll to exercise and keep healthy!

One of my favorite parks in Singapore, feels very real, very untamed, with some dense parts that make you feel away from the city. Here you'll find lots of birds from little spiderhunters to eagles, spitting cobras and species of vipers, colugos and the Banded Langur.

Slightly off Ang Mo Kio, it might not be a very accessible unless you drive. This place used to be a Hainanese Village so you will see lots of ruins and squirrels making their way around. Mainly two trails to take: - Ruins and Figs - Stream and Ferns The trails are well maintain though there is a section whereby it get steep so best to have on proper foot wear!

  • 4/5 KH C. 3 years ago on Google
A nice walk, good that the place is kept in original state with minimal intervention. Since it was so full of kampung spirit, wonder why the villagers were evicted in the first place. The railing posts are overly designed though.

The whole route was only 1.5 km but due to bad signage, we were just walking in circles for 3 km. Noticed a lot of people were lost too due to the signage. They did not label the ruins hence we didn't know they were ruins so if you see dilapidated structures they probably are one. All in all its a very nice place to take a walk and enjoy the nature.

Got the family out with me to check out the Thomson Nature Park. Totally love it! As we are there with young kids, we decided to check out the shorter trail. There are plenty of information panels around the park. We enjoyed discovering & learning about what use to be a Hainanese village. Do note that there are wild animals like wild boar, monkeys around. We had an unfortunate scary encounter with a family of monkeys. Both our girls were frightened. Can’t blame the monkeys as they were also protecting their young ones. Tip: Later I learn from a friend that one should not look/stare at a monkey straight in the eye, they think that you are challenging them. And that’s when they can get aggressive. Just look away when encountering monkeys n quickly walk away. But that’s not going to stop us from coming back again. ? This place is definitely worth checking out if you are looking for some outdoor nature walk. #familyfriendly #kidsfriendly #naturewalk

This park contains a total of 5 trails which can be easily covered within half a day at the most. The trails ranges from pavements, steps, dirt/loose stones and consisted of flat and slopes. This park is rich in diversity as one can easily spot different wildlife ranging from insects to birds to mammals and plants/fungus within the park. Certain stretches of the trails seem to have more mosquitoes e.g. ferns and streams trail. There are also road signs with the road names within the park. The carpark here has limited lots and always seem to be full. The only toilet here is located at the main entrance / car park area.

The park is pretty small but still quite interesting for first timers. It can get very quiet as not many visitors there. I got an eerie feeling walking there. Relatively small nature park but nice scenery with a jungle feel along some of the trails. Some ruins of the past Hainanese Village there, eg. wells, can be seen along the trails. However, whilst you appreciate the nice scenery, there's a need to look out for some potholes and little streams that run across the trails.

I read about the history of the place especially the ruins of Hainan village, figs and rambutan plantation and trails. It makes for an interesting read and a good exploration with trails that slope up and down as well plenty of wildlife, mostly insects (also wild boar and monkeys, if lucky). It’s not a touristy place but more of nostalgia for the the progress we’ve made as humans.

The fresh air in the park smells really good. Beautiful forested park where you can expect to see birds, monkeys, monitor lizards and squirrels too. You will also be able to see the pieces of history left for us; the ruins and remnants of a former Hainan village. If you want to be away from the hustle and bustle; this is where you want to be. There are several (mostly shaded) trails to explore and the paths are mostly paved. Parking and toilets are available near to the park entrance.

My first visit to Thomson Nature Park did not disappoint! It was a strange departure from the other usual and more popular Singapore Parks as there was always a surprise photo waiting to be taken around the corner. Even on a hot sunny late morning, the paths were relatively easy to walk through as most of the walkways were covered with sufficient foliage.

It's a beautiful walk and beautiful nature scenery. You learn about the family owned that place previously.

Small but secluded park. Quick experience of the nature. Saw the old toilet cubicles, an old well and some ruins. Interesting story about the Hainan village.

Great place to spend an early morning or an afternoon. There are a few different trails you can take and you will have to backtrack a few times if you want to cover everything. You can cover the whole place in a couple hours if you are a fast walker. You are far from the traffic and city so it really feels like you are in a forest away from the hustle and bustle. Most of the paths are paved but there are sections of the trail that are rocky or have vines. Bring bug spray and watch out for monkeys!

Ventured into this park to see the ruins of an old Hainanese village. The ruins are not like those in other countries where the shapes and sizes tell of a rich history. And where the remains still look so good that you would be glad to take photos and share it. What we saw were not very old dwellings made of bricks and cement left to deteriorate and would one day simply disappear. I wouldn't call these ruins. The whole park is not well maintained. Signage is bad and lacking in educational and entertainment value like most signage in all parks in Singapore. The most interesting thing I learnt today is the fact that the founder of Han's Cafe chain lived in this village when he first migrated from China and that former PM Lee Kuan Yew visited the village in the late 1960s, probably to canvass for votes in an election. The so-called stream is not worth the walk. The roads and pathways are quite steep and uneven. There are mosquitoes and quite a lot of monkeys around. So don't bring anything in supermarket plastic bags.

Good for nature walks. Not too big. Gets quite dark due to the tree cover. The ruins are fascinating, you can still see some of the structures. Hard to imagine it was a settlement decades ago.

Far away from the mrt, so more suitable for well prepared hikers and cyclists. But the lake views is really worth visiting !!

Besides lot of monkeys, this is just a "small" nature park... Few 1M plus trails to chose from, intersection with each other, no matter which one u chose, u will end up going to the "main entrance". Of cos there's way to lead to lower/ upper pierce reservoir too... Just b ware of the many monkeys in there ...

This was personal for me, as it's where I grew up. There is good signage and information (though the information boards are looking a bit shabby in places), and it's very well maintained. I covered all 6km to not miss any part of this nature park which is a treasure.

Lovely place, quiet, natural and serene. 1 trail is about 1++km, so highly recommended to come early. Lots of slopes & can be slightly slippery due to the moss, so wear proper shoes

Not bad for a quiet stroll away from the more crowded parks. Otherwise, there is nothing much here, and may be especially boring for children. Signs and colour codes were confusing and seem to be contracting at times.

I would come to Thomson Nature Park whenever I need a quick hike. I love the rustic vibes among the Hainan village ruins. The entire hike can take less than an hour, depending on speed. Along the way, there are some educational information on the history of the place as well as the plants in the park. Be careful as some parts can be quite slippery. Good shoes are a must!

Nice place to walk, although total trails very short. It's all secondary forest, that overgrew an abandoned Kampong.

Unique, in a way, it was my first park visit with a supernatural feeling. I hoped they never tagged along when I was on my way out.
