👍👍 One of the best places to goto for delicious Japanese Wagyu bowls. The beef will blow your senses away. If you’re willing to pay, go for the Japanese Wagyu special bowl with Sea Urchin and/or Foie Gras. You won’t regret it. This place don’t have small portions for Junmai Daiginjo though. Had a great dinner at Kabuke with 2 friends. It is an enjoyable evening. A small cost place located on 2F - not the easiest to find as they only have a rather simple sign on top of the doorway on 1F. Decent food (would recommend the unagi tempura) with great sake selection. The staffs are friendly & fairly knowledgeable with the sake. 1 ⭐️ short as I find the food to be rather pricey. Do check out this place for its sake 🍶

Came for restaurant week! Everything was quite good, specially the starters. The scallop and tuna tataki tasted really good. Had a bara chirashi bowl and my friends had the Wagyu bowl. The chirashi I thought can have more raw fishes. They were cut into too tiny pieces it’s hard to tell what I’m even eating.

Great dinner experience. Delicious food and great service! The A4 Kagoshima steak is worth getting and enjoyed the Otoro tataki despite nobody mentioning it in their reviews. The wings were also a great choice.

Hidden gem! It’s tucked away on the second floor. Great food with legit sake pairing. The staff knows their sake well, you can sit at the bar counter for a friendly chat.

Came for dinner in this cosy restaurant… must say that the food is good… price point is on the higher side… guess it is never cheap to have Japanese meals in such establishment… may need a special occasion to come back here… not for regular dinners - at least not for me 😊

Little hidden gem. The food was incredible - the potato & Camembert mochis are a must, just like the miso eggplant. The service is quite fast and the team very nice. Will definitely visit again!

Beautiful venue… amazing sake… scrumptious food! The back area was just fantastic. The Japanese decoration was bright and so pretty. There was a really nice attention to detail. We got 5 dishes: 2 small plates and 3 big plates for 2 people. It was a great spread and I would recommend everything we had. Potato Mochi, Eggplant, Wagju Maki, Australian Wagju rice bowls and the apple crispy pork. Of those my favourite were the maki, eggplant and rice bowl. We enjoyed some sake too. I think 300 mL was too much for a casual dinner for 2 people, I would get less. However, the sake was a great palate cleanser. I’d really recommend and I hope to be back soon!

Yummy. But ex. They should just make it a set meal with miso soup etc. and a scoop of ice cream for desert. I did the wagyu beef bowl. Topped up $5 for green tea and 3 pieces of friend chicken. Good stuff but not so worth it !

Food and service was good! The chirashi bowl was amazing - will try the beef bowl next. Also had the pork (main on its own) and I went to heaven on my first bite. The fat and meat ratio was perfect & it just melts in your mouth. Was tempted to order another plate but we were stuffed by then. Had the donut dessert and was surprised by how good it was! Definitely a good way to end the meal.

Had dinner here. Everything was good till there are large group of people sitting behind us and we had difficulty talking to each other. The tables are too close. If you are around the area can give it a try their food quite good but abit expensive. Happy hour 6-7pm!

Cosy place located on the 2nd floor and felt a bit like a speakeasy. Went on a Thursday evening and it was fairly empty. The crispy kurobuta pork was really good and came with pickled apple. The Kani miso kourayaki was really rich and I loved it. But the Bara chirashi don was disappointing. It was covered in a lot of sauce except for the uni which was on top and I couldn't really taste the seafood. Also, the sake was served with some sort of wine glass instead of the usual sake glass. But maybe it's because of the bottle what I ordered. But I loved the ambience and staff were attentive. If I go back, I'll try the cooked menu items instead.

Had lunch there with my wife, and was surprised (because we didn't expect it) yet not surprised (because the vibe was similar) to find that it's the sister shop to Tanoke, another Japanese restaurant we love. Had the Japanese wagyu bowl with A4 Miyazaki wagyu, while wide had the Gindara Katsu Don with miso black cod. Both were good, though wife noted that the wagyu was a bit too salty. Still OK for me though. Portions are OK, though I would've like a bit more beef. They serve water which is great, and service was pretty good. The ambience was a bit too dark though.

Absolutely love this place. Ordered the wagyu + foie gras bowl, one of the best bowl I ever had, both wagyu + foie gras were very nicely done. Very nice ambience for a chill evening. Definitely heading back to try its sake and other menu items.

Food and drinks were not too bad, a huge variety of sake but was asked to leave on a Friday at 9pm before we finished our sake because “there is another reservation at the door”. Not impressed.

The highlight of my birthday week was this meal. Kabuke was one of the best Japanese restaurants I’ve been to. Every item we ordered was perfect. The Kabuke Bara Chirashi Don was amazing. The rice was so fluffy and the seafood in it were really fresh, especially the Uni. The Uni Ikura Somen was my favourite. The truffle shoyu was so fragrant and matched with the somen perfectly. They were also super generous with the ikura. Kabuke Wagyu Bowl was really good as well. The beef was tender and juicy. Garlic chips complemented the dish Camembert Potato Mochi was so soft and fragrant, kind of like the freshly fried donut. Very small portion tho. Use Cheese Tart Brûlée was meh. Tart shell was super hard and the sugar layer for the brûlée was too thick. Everything was crunchy and very sweet. Can’t really taste the cheese with the sugar layer being so sweet. Could’ve been better. Lastly, the item we came here for: Sake. Many of my friends should know that I LOVE sake. So I’ll always look for places that sells sake. We had the Ugo no Tsuki Junmai Daiginjo. Super fragrant and towards the sweeter side. I loved it. Anyways, in conclusion, Kabuke is a MUST VISIT for Japanese food lovers. So blessed for this meal. Thank you

Situated on the second floor of a charming heritage shophouse on Telok Ayer Street, it has a nice ambiance and good food.

Visited their sister brand Tanoke (7 Purvis Street) months ago and really liked it, and that’s why I also want to give Kabuke a try and I think we’ve got a winner here. Ordered ‘Kabuke Pleasure Bowl’ and it was packed with umami, so was the ‘Kimochi Kimochi Somen’, fresh, full of flavours, I’d totally recommend it. This place is a great choice to have some quality sashimi bowls and noodles.

Used to frequent this place a lot more often pre-Covid because we loved the vibe, food and it was reasonably priced, a rare gem. Was surprised to find that the prices has changed to be a lot pricier. Other than the wagyu bowl, the other food portions were miserably small for the price. The somen portion looked more like an appetizer. The tori kawa was tasteless and bland, a total disappointment for such a fail-proof snack. The standard of the wagyu bowl was alright but pricier than other wagyu restaurants. The sake we wanted was sold out. Quite a disappointment, compared ro what it used to be.

My Japanese friend bring me to this restaurant it's a special day because his birthday. The dishes are so delicious 😋 and try with the Japanese wine and liquor. I loved the taste and presentation of the food, we are so lucky to be in Singapore to taste different kind of food. Must try

If not for being turned away at another restaurant due to over an hour of wait time, we would not stumble across this discreet restaurant located on the second floor along the streets of telok ayer. The place is full house too but the server told us if we waited for 5-10 minutes he can secure us a table as someone was leaving. Service here is top notch and the staff is very accommodating and willing to explain the menu. We ordered several dishes to share and all were flavorbombs. Did not realize this was on entertainer app. Will return again to order the donburi!

  • 2/5 Mats L. 9 months ago on Google
There are many Japanese restaurants in Singapore and I do not feel like going back to this one. Hence, all I can give is two stars. Being on the second floor I would have expected more value for money. 80 dollars for a small premium sashimi rice bowl is too much, especially when the menu's cheaper alternative had already sold out. Service was friendly, but there is nothing unique to encourage me to come back.

Review update - Kabuke is an extremely dishonest and underhanded establishment. Their manager or staff working the floor has no qualms with lying straight to their customers’ faces. I have proof, please see my attached photo with my review. I tried redeeming my 1-1 entertainer voucher few weeks back and they lied saying “we have since asked to be removed from the app but entertainer will not comply. And we are thinking of issuing legal actions. Please check with the app, we are not responsible”. Well GUESS WHAT, I actually did and have proof that you were just trying to lie your way through honouring your promotions. If anything, Kabuke being listed on entertainer is a platform for them to gain more customers or exposure so this feels like an extremely dirty tactic of theirs to just be listed on the site to gain interest and turn around denying customers’ rights. I really hope your saving on a few $10-$20 from us that night was worth it because you’ve lost hundreds or thousands from my further patronising. Also, it is clear from my reviews that I am an active restaurant goer so you will be comforted to know I will absolutely spread word of this restaurant’s corrupted tactics. If you only care about the food, the restaurants feels dirty literally, from walking up the dust laden stairs. Then to their plain jack bowls where the Uni is not fresh and other starters are plain sad and flavourless.

Very cozy place upstairs away from the busy streets. Comfortable and clean inside - great helpful friendly staff happy to suggest different sake on offer according to your taste. Nice choice of small plates to share - all taste great especially the pork!! Great happy hour specials at half price too - do give it a try, will be back to try the rest of the menu!

Found this place when we were looking for wagyu bowl for delivery during circuit breaker. And since then we have done couple of repeat delivery since we like their kabuke pleasure bowl. First time we tried their set C, turned out we didnt really like spam and other stuff that comes with it so we decided to stick with a la carte for our subsequent orders. Also tried their wagyu tataki and snow crab which I found decent too though I recalled their scallop was not as fresh (not sure if its due to delivery). If you are not expecting something that is over the top, you can try this out.

Nice cozy placed tucked away from all the hustle and bustle downstairs. I arrived early and was the first guests. The place was really quiet and staff were really helpful. Great place to come during happy hour and pairing your beers with sides. Would highly recommend the Grilled Stingray Fins!

Second visit and we still love this place. They usually have 1-1 for drinks and some small dish promo before 6.50 pm. Their rice bowl is good - we normally go for DIY version so we can choose different topping. The venue is not so big but can accommodate big groups as they have long tables etc.

I'd say this place is like a sake bar restaurant. They do carry premium sake at a decent price. Food portion kinda small for the price charged. It's still a nice cosy bar restaurant too catch up over quality sake. More of a beef lover menu. Do take note, this is Not a place for sushi or sashimi.

Fun sake bar with an interesting menu! The miso eggplant was a pleasant surprise, with its mix of sweet and savoury eggplant dishes. The selection of sake is also extensive, and the tasting flight showcased a good mix of sweet and dry sakes. Service was considerate and friendly, which makes up for the fact that it is a tad pricey for small serving sizes.

Cozy hole in the wall bar. Ambience is cool and sake was nice though as what other patrons might have mentioned, small portions for food. We paid close to $50 for a few slices of waygu beef. The mini rice bowl of scallop and foie grass was perhaps the tastiest out of all our dishes. The rest of the 'appetizer' sized portions were standard fare.

Due to my work commitments, I could only have my lunch at 130pm. Food took awhile to come but by 2pm they were interrupting us and passively chasing us out (making us settle the bill in the midst of our meal) and by 230pm we were rudely harassed into leaving. If they expect everyone to have a one hour quick lunch and be flushed out of their premises by closing time of 2pm, they should firstly refuse any customers by 1pm and secondly not have accepted our additional drinks order only to rush us away in the midst of our drinks. If only they had taken half as much effort to serve us better (eg our water was never refilled). Very uncalled for considering the amount I spent on the meal for 2 and 2 drinks each!

Went there on Friday night. Food was nice but overpriced.. ordered one wagyu(around $28), crab dish ($22), egg plant dish ($14) two teas ($4 for each). Thought those dish at $20 price would be a main dish quantity. But it was like appetizers ? The right one in the photo was $28 wagyu.

Very good sake list with plenty of rare sakes: some of which aren't even available to retail outside of Japan. On top of that it is very decently priced and a very knowledgeable sommelier, John. Only letdown is their light bites.

My colleague recommended this place for a Friday night hangout and we were blown away at the ambience and food quality. We were also fortunate enough to have the chef to explain the food we had and made us enjoy the cuisine on another level. I highly recommend if you are looking for high quality Japanese food at an original cozy setting.

Ordered wagyu beef bowl from lunch menu. ($28) Initially told that I could use 1 for 1 from HSBC app but later told that I could not use it. (Would have been better if properly informed as the person serving and initially confirming was the same) The meat was tender and onsen egg was nicely done but the overall taste was a bit salty for my liking.

Decided to celebrate friend’s birthday here upon seeing the google review score but we had a disappointing experience. We ordered the scallop Ikura pie tee as it sounded interesting but was stun that the pie tee came in a miserable shallow height of around 1cm which we could not taste any scallop at all! The fact we could only taste Ikura for the 5 tiny pie tee costing $28++ it was a total ripped off. As for main we ordered 3 wagyu bowl & 1 chirashi bowl which were dry and lack of taste so we were very disappointed considering these are recommended items in the menu. Definitely had much better versions at other restaurants. There was a hiccup with 1 of the small plate order, we ordered the items in English but the staff repeated the order in Japanese so we did not spot that the chicken skin was wrongly heard by the staff as chicken wings. When we highlighted the error she reminded us that she did repeat the order for our confirmation.. well what else can we say we just accepted the wings. We decided to cut short the dinner and adjourn elsewhere for dessert after feeling less than satisfied with the food and service.
