Hallasan
hiking
tips
(Gwaneumsa
trail)
-If
you're
taking
the
Gwaneumsa
trail
of
the
Seongpanak
trail,
you
need
to
book
your
climbing
pass
at
(visithalla.jeju.go.kr)
,
Reservations
are
open
on
the
1st
of
every
month.
-There
is
plenty
of
parking
space
at
the
Gwaneumsa
trail
entrance.
-It
takes
around
4.5
hrs
to
climb
to
the
summit
and
4
hrs
to
descend.
Start
early,
ideally
around
0600
so
you'll
reach
around
1030/1100
and
can
have
lunch
at
the
summit
and
spend
an
hour
or
two
there.
You
need
to
reach
the
Samgakbong
shelter
before
1pm
(summer)
or
else
you
cannot
continue
up.
-Temperature
drops
from
around
32°
(summer)
to
18°
at
the
summit,
consider
bringing
an
overlay
jacket.
-Consider
bringing
sunblock,
sunglasses
and
a
hat
as
it
gets
very
sunny
even
at
the
summit
during
summer.
-Hiking
sticks,
hiking
shoes,
knee
guard,
water
bag
with
drinking
tube
is
highly
recommended.
They
will
be
your
best
friends
throughout
the
hike.
-Bring
a
small
bag
for
thrash,
tissues
and
wet
wipes
as
there's
no
faucet
in
the
toilets.
-There
is
NO
water/food
stops.
Make
sure
to
bring
enough
food
and
water.
I
bought
those
gimbap
from
the
convenience
store.
Ration
yourself
so
you
have
water
coming
down
too!
-Snacks
like
mini
chocolate
bars
are
the
best
energy
supplement.
Eat
one
every
30
min
or
so
to
keep
your
energy
up.
-Passing
Samgakbong
shelter
the
path
will
be
extremely
tiring
due
to
the
thinner
air.
Pace
yourself
during
the
ascend.
-There
is
a
point
after
Samgakbong
shelter
that
has
spring
water
flowing
out
of
a
pipe,
however
it
is
NOT
for
drinking.
-Pace
yourself
during
the
descend
as
it
is
equally
difficult
to
descend
the
Gwaneumsa
trail.
The
rocky
paths
are
very
slippery.
Use
walking
sticks
to
take
weight
off
your
knees.
-After
completion
of
the
climb,
you
can
use
the
online
website
to
request
for
a
certificate
of
climbing
hallasan
or
just
show
your
summit
picture
and
ask
the
trail
entrance
counter
staff
for
help
to
print
it.
