So beautiful! The Lion's Mound comes from nowhere in the middle of Waterloo's battlefield. It must be visited if you ever decide to travel to Belgium!

I really like the way that they present the history of museum, movie is good with 3D and use audio guide by phone with free wi fi. All story inside really interesting. Good view with Lion also.

Nice area, nice place, tickets are a bit pricy for what you get though. Not crowded at all though on the weekdays. There is a nice little car that can bring you around the area to get to your spot. The layout is a little bit strange but I think it's okay overall. I just wish you could get unbundled tickets if you only want to see the lion.

Excellent place but I'm afraid it's turning into a theme park when it should be a war grave in my opinion. There are many steps so be prepared for a climb and be careful on descent. This place has very little in the way of COVID precautions so bring your own sanitiser.

(Translated by Google) Superb lion overlooking the plain of Waterloo. Turned towards France, he is proud of having defended his homeland. In honor of the combatants of the war, he is the imprint of their courage against the French. With its 226 steps, it stands out as a monument rich in memories. A page out of history! The museum n 3D film makes the war so real. What a pity we humans have learnt nothing from all the wars. The Lion’s mound is beautiful. 226 steps! Thank God the management has put a board warning people about fitness n health level. Thank you for this. Many many places don’t bother.

Whether you are a history fan or not this place is set to amuse you. I will list out the best things you shouldnt miss in your visit. 1. Lions Mound Dont be overwhelmed by the sheer altitude to take, just go for it. Ive seen very old people and small kids reaching the top. You will feel like you had achieved something when reaching the top, similar to mountain climbers to our level :) On the top you are treated with a fantastic view that you dont normally get to see everywhere. For history lovers, yes you see the place where the allied forces defeated The Napoleon. You have notes there that explains where and what happened exactly so you can see and imagine the past. 2. Down below the mound you have soldiers recreating the war. Once a year and once in five years they do it very big, the exact simulation of the war with 1000s of soldiers. Rest of the time you can see some canon ball shots (See my pictures) Tip: They also do some activities for kids near the same place. The soldiers speak, French & Dutch and also English so feel free to ask your preferred language. 3. There is also a museum near by which has plenty of things that take you back to the history. Its a heaven for history lovers and the rest of the people will be amazed by the soldiers, war materials and the 4D movie theatre inside which shows a short movie of the war on a huge screen. Hope the review is useful and helps to plan your visit. Have fun there ! Give a like if it helps.

stunning view of lush green farm (historic Waterloo war fields) from top entry ticket 7€ per person ... free for below 10 years there is a nice souvenir shop (not very expensive) and a nice cafe Entry from memorial ... first go to memorial, but ticket and then you can go the Lion’s mound via panaroma 226 steps ... steep .. but tiring to climb.. but absolutely worth First visit (climb) Mound ... enjoy the view and once you descend & if you have time ... enjoy the pleasant walk (around the mound) Don’t forget to visit the panorama

The Lion Mound in Waterloo is an iconic landmark commemorating the Battle of Waterloo. It's a fascinating historical site that offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding area. The monument itself is impressive, with a majestic lion statue perched on top. Exploring the site and learning about the battle's significance is a truly immersive experience. Whether you're a history enthusiast or simply looking for a unique attraction, the Lion Mound is definitely worth a visit.

(Translated by Google) A bit of history of the Napoleonic wars. A place worth seeing. In fine weather, quite a pleasant trip. We were before the pandemic. I think the admission price is a bit over the top. It's hard for museums to maintain themselves. (Original) Trochę historii wojen napoleońskich. Miejsce warte obejrzenia. The Waterloo battle is one of the most important historical facts which took place in Belgium the period of Napoleon's wars. The monument is astonishing and if you have the heart to climb the hill with the lion on top of it, the view will reward you. My advice is to visit it early in the morning as it is too crowded usually.

Interesting monument surrounded by really scenic fields. It was easy to find a parking spot on the road leading to the entrance and there is also a restaurant with plenty of parking spaces. However, if you want to climb up to the lion you have to buy a combined ticket for the hill, panorama and an exhibition for 15€. We decided it was not worth it for us, so we just walked around the area.

Enjoyed the trip here today, had walking tour through the museum and the guide was very knowledgeable. The area was clean and spaced apart.

  • 4/5 Decio Denis B. 2 years ago on Google
It's pricey. 14euros just to force people to visit the exhibition as well. We wanted just to walk and lcing the hill. But ok.. Napoléon is Napoléon. Nice little exhibition, and very lovely sunny day for the hill. Staff is so kind, cannon shot show is cool too, for both adults and kids. To enter the place you have to go.. Downstairs. To the ticket office. Then you'll enter the famous Lion's mound

Nice Museum next to the monument on the hill about the waterloo battle. Worth seeing. The stairs up the hill however are a bit more demanding than they look like.

Amazing experience to visit a historical landmark that turned the tide of history. Most of the self guided tour was digital and you can use your phone for information. There is a 4D film that shows before and during the battle of what happened, for those that may not know. The displays are impressively set up as well. Like with any piece of history, there's an overpriced gift shop on the way out.

  • 4/5 De spiegeleer M. 3 years ago on Google
It was cold and rainy today , but worth to climb the stairs to embrace the view of the battlefield. Be aware that access during COVID is limited to 10 person at a time ! Could be more crowded on sunny days ... But social distance must be respected and the long old stairs is very narrow.

  • 4/5 Danny K. 6 months ago on Google
Place full of history, beautiful panoramic with a view on the whole battlefield (indoor). From the top, a beautiful landscape view.

Historical area near Waterloo. The Bute de Lion is actually a gift of the Netherlands Royal House to honour the fallen who fought during the Napoleon wat at Waterloo. The area is open and free of charge to wander around or hike the battlegrounds. On location there are some information plaques and statues that describe what happens.

The Museum is beautiful, the view also. You can feel the big history there. The brasserie is also a nice place

If you have an interest in history this is a great place to visit. There are different tickets you can buy starting at €24 per person that gives you access to the site and the museum. Ather tickets include other sites as well. There is a pub restaurant nearby but no cafe on sight. Parking is free and plenty.

  • 5/5 Alek Z. 7 months ago on Google
Historical site, a true monument of Napoleon's Empire collapse. There are exhibitions inside as well as a short movie about the Battle. Take a look at the Panorama of the Battle of Waterloo - an 11-meter-long picture of this duel. Go outside and see the battlefield from the mound. You can also see some monuments along the road and visit other places connected to the Battle nearby.

  • 3/5 Eric P. 5 months ago on Google
Such a historic site... end of the Napoleonic era. The panorama did not have audio (maybe we were off season?) but cool to see it and take in the history.

  • 5/5 Jasmin M. 11 months ago on Google
This is a wonderful and informative museum exhibit. They have many interactive displays teaching you about the battle that took place here. I am not much of a history geek and even I enjoyed it. Also, you can climb the (steep) steps to the top of the Lion's mound which rewards you with a beautiful view of the landscape. It also allows you to see the monument up close which is truly an amazing sight. The price is average for any museum. Plus it grants you access not only to the musuem and the mound, but also a beautiful panorama, another museum and a farm that played a huge part in the battle. In total, I spent 4 hours here so the money was well worth it in my opinion.

  • 5/5 Stein Runar B. 10 months ago on Google
The place in itself is a pleasantly contrasting green cone in a gently rolling field. That is enough for four stars in a country that is somewhat short on mountains. However, what makes this place interesting-beyond aesthetics-is its history. Read up on Napoleon and consider how (and if) the events that played out here shaped the world we live in today.

Is a nice day trip, clearly you expensive for what you can see there: the panoramic is useless: a pain wall with some effects. The Lion’s mound is niece, 200+ steps to climb but up is very niece the view and the fresh air. At the museum we wasn’t and at the farm neither but I think it was included in the ticket. For the museum, lions mound and panorama was 17 Euros. Is a good restaurant there, nice waiters, good food and pleasant feelings

It's hard to rate a war memorial, isn't it? It is what it is :) In a beautiful location. Overbooked parking. Restaurant on site which is a nice to have.

  • 4/5 Alan F. 1 year ago on Google
The Lions Mound and museum are costly to visit, and access to the mound required a 1.5 kilometre walk to the entrance from the car park, and the exit gate close to the car park was chained shut at 10.00 am so would have required the same walk to get out. Probably best to visit later in the day when hopefully the site is fully open, and make sure your visit is long enough to enjoy a leisurley walk around the site rather than rush. If it is sunny, take plenty of water. My visit was early in the day. In the light of the venue's response, I should add that the museum and restaurants are close to the car park, but upon approaching the mound, a sign directed us towards an entrance to the right of the gate signed "exit" 1.25 km away... from where I took my photograph of the mound summit. It was not my intention to put anybody off, merely to allow plenty of time to enjoy everything that is to be seen, and when the refreshment venues are open... and presumably the exit from the mound.

(Translated by Google) Beautiful site to visit, especially with children. Yesterday we had beautiful weather so walking was also wonderful. Also impressed with the use of mulimedia over the phone. Small point, for us this did not work flawlessly, but can also be located on our telephone. With the panarama painting by Jules Dumoulin, we could not select the different highlights (stars) to read a word of explanation, optical recognition of the drawing also got stuck. Perhaps we stayed there a bit on our hunger, because the work including the original foreground is really beautiful. But this does not detract from the fact that this is definitely worth a visit, this site. Good job! Knap werk!

The Lion's Mound or Waterloo Monument, made up of an imposing earthen mound surmounted by a colossal Belgian Lion, is a monument erected in 1826, to perpetuate national glory, on the site of the Battle of Waterloo, in Braine- the Alleud. Like the entire site of the battle, the Butte is listed as a major heritage of Wallonia. A beautiful place to visit ... !! @ specialmoment15 . Nice visit and museum. You no longer have the option to only visit the monument (climb to the top of the mountain) so you have to buy a combiticket with access to the museum. As we didn't have time for a long visit, this was rather expensive, so make sure you take the time to visit the lovely museum as well! Friendly staff, Corona-proof visit!
