We had booked this hostel several months in advance. However, upon our arrival at 7 pm this week, the hostel staff informed us that our room was under maintenance, rendering check-in unavailable. There was no prior notification provided to us. The hostel suggested we check in at another hotel they had arranged for us, and they would cover the price difference. On the surface, this seemed like an upgrade from a hostel to a hotel, but our excitement faded when we read reviews about the hotel, specifically, HOTEL MANHATTAN, which were downright terrible and horrifying. You can seach the hotel below and check the review and you will understand why we were so disappointed. "Manhattan Hotel Brussel" Continuing our story, we inquired if the hostel could offer an alternative stay or if we could pay to upgrade our room, but the answer was a flat 'no.' The reason given for the unavailability of our room was a malfunctioning toilet. We were willing to use a common toilet but were met with rejection. While the hostel kept refusing our requests, they were allowing other customers to check in. When we questioned this apparent double standard, the hostel claimed that only two rooms were affected, and both of us are Asian. So I guess our ethnicity played a role in their decision. Regrettably, we had no choice but to accept their offer as it was already 7:40 pm, and finding last-minute accommodation would have cost us four to five times the original price.

The rooms are a devistation for every poor soul who thought of booking this so seemingly inocennt hostel. For reference, 3 of the 4 existing poweroutlets in my room are infunctional (in simpler terms: don't work). The location, even when advertised as being good, was pretty disappointing. There where multiple restaurants and beautiful buildings nearby but I can't help but notice that the crime rate in downtown Brussels is nearly as high as in London, with police being literaly everywhere. Of course this is not the hostels fault but the hostel could have provided this seriously important information. (again) For referance, me and my friends managed to witness (at least) 3 police chases without looking for them. The service was acceptable. What botherd me was, that everyone is simply kicked out of their rooms from 11 am until 3 pm. I can understand that the cleaning staff is doing their job, but wouldn't it be easier for everybody (cleaning staff and visitors) to just not clean the rooms that are occupied while the cleaning staff is doing their job? Have you blessed people (workers at the hostel) ever heard of the saying "so sad, to bad"? Furthermore, the food seems to be prepared in a way, that can only be described as highly disappointing. I know this is a hostel and not a hotel but some of the food options, like the chicken helped me to understand why my parents became vegan. Overall, the hostel was ok but much worse than advertised. I know my review is very harsch but it's important to me to tell the truth. Thanks for reading

Nice budget accommodation close to Brussels Central. Its about 1km from the station and you can easily walk there. Its well worth for the money you spend. They have hostel facilities as well as separate rooms. A good breakfast was included in the price. Service was really good. They have a separate luggage room where you can keep your belonging before checking and after checkout. Great value for money.

The best part about this hotel is that it is located at a prime part of the city. The market is just a couple of minutes by walk. The hotel itself is pretty cheap and offers the basic amenities that you might expect. Opt for this if you are looking for a budget accommodation. You can put a greater emphasis on visiting the spots around this place without too much time spent on travelling.

We went there for a school trip and everything was kind of a mess. First of all we didn’t get the rooms we were promised and when we put our stuff in our rooms we were shook. We found hair of stranger in our beds, the floor and the shelves were dusty, hair in our sink and mold inside of the shower. Unfortunately the hostel doesn’t provide towels, which is unpleasant. I have to say that the people were really nice and the prices cheap to the one star is for them!!!

I've been to several hostels in different big cities now (Paris and London) but this one was particularly great in comparison. The bathroom is enclosed in the room, it was clean, the rooms were big and the bed comfy. The employees were friendly and the waiting area was also great before I went up to my room. I can't complain about anything considering how cheap but central it is.

Super clean rooms. We asked the reception to leave our luggage at the luggage room as we arrived before the check in time and they welcomely did so. The towel is not included in the price of the bed. Nice location. It was quiet. There is a kitchen to cook if you want. The accommodation included breakfast but unfortunately I had to leave super early even before the breakfast so didn’t have the chance to try it and there was no option to take it away.

A place to spend one or two nights, but too rustic for longer stay. The advantage is its very strategic location at 10 min walking distance from GROOTE-MARKT (Grand Place). Cleanliness of Sleep Well rooms is OK. Breakfast is decent and price as well.

I have stayed in this hostel for one night and it was beyond my expectation. It was my first experience of being in a hostel and I was worried when I was booking this, but after my stay I really enjoy booking it. I have booked a bed in a three person(only for female) room. The room was clean, cozy, modern and very convenient. My bed was so comfortable and I slept pretty well that night. The breakfast was also so good. The location of this hostel is good and very near to center and Train station

Long check-in cue and only one receptionist helping. Very simple breakfast compared to other options in Brussels, terrible scrambled eggs and cafeteria was too crowded. Towels had stains that seemed very dirty all over it, making us question overall cleanliness. Even though there is a baggage locker 24/7, staff advises you there is no camera or control over your belongings, so you can leave bags there at your own risk, which is a shame for something so simple. Giving people some sticker with bag number would solve it and make clients happier.

Decent hotel for this price and friendly stuff but the breakfast would have been better. Not the quantity but the quality. Tomatoes was probably from last year :(

The best hotel in Brussels. I recommend booking. It doesn't cost much. Great breakfast, open buffet in the morning The hosts are very nice The hostels are good and nice I got to know a lot of people there and it was a very nice experience It provides everything for you that I would recommend It is located in the middle of the market

Good stay! We had one of the private rooms and yes, they are strict on not letting you in until 3pm. The free breakfast was great! Room is small but comfortable. Location is just a short walk to the city center and the train station.

Very good value for our money. The place saves where they can (towel for €1), but I personally didn't mind. It is clean, the furniture is good, location is excellent and the staff is helpful and kind. Recommended

Great place to sleep and be in the centre of the city, near to main attractions and also public transportation. The room and bathroom were clean and the bed was just perfect. The staff was nice and kind, helping with information when asked for. Breakfast was decent and basic, and has met the expectations. I would totally recommend it and would go again there👌

A great hostel experience (and we haven't stayed in a hostel in years). Great location, free breakfast, great shower and the sink wasn't blocked, lots of seating and areas to lie down, use a laptop etc. We were sceptical of the foam mattresses but they were very comfortable and we slept like a baby. The games room and table tennis was a nice bonus

The staff wasn’t as friendly as a hotel receptionist check-in at 3pm and check out at 11am. I have called to modify my reservation but staff wasn’t comprehensive. The room doesn’t have plugs next to the beds. Tried better for cheaper. Btw i tried the private room.

Great location and friendly staff. Beds were nice but didn't have any privacy. The lockers in the room are very very small. Great breakfast for it's price.

I stayed there for 2 nights during early June. Average temperature outside is around 28-30 Celsius. I was in a 3 bed room. Even with the window fully open it was so hot inside and it was so hard to sleep. I've been to cheaper hostels where they hadat least a small fan. The second thing that made no sense was that if you are outside and you want to go to your room in the hours between 11am-3pm, YOU CANNOT. It makes no sense. They say it's because at this time they clean the rooms. Therefore you are locked out and you gotta wait and waste time. Lastly, i had bites from bed bugs after the first night. I didn’t realize this and thought they were only mosquito bites. The spots on my back were a lot and in clusters. I normally don't leave such reviews but it was such an awful experience for my euro trip.

In short! This is a "hostel" with 4stars hotel quality. Great rooms. Great location. I was verily surprised ☝️ Ps. pics are taken before our departure/checkout. Bring a lock with you you will need it😅

I liked a lot staying in this hostel. It is organized, very clean, with good staff and a lot of shared area. The breakfast was included and was good! One of the best hostels I already stayed.

Stayed in a 3 bed dorm and loved it! Everything was clean, my bed was comfortable, breakfast was good, there's an elevator, and location is good cause I was able to walk to the grand place and to the flixbus station. The man at the front desk speaks perfect Spanish and he's super nice, so being able to do the check in in my native language was awesome. I'd definitely stay here again.

Very good hostel experience for the price! Rooms are clean, it’s centrally located, and the staff is very nice! Also can only recommend the full breakfast buffet for the price! The rooms do get very warm, and the area is not quiet, so I would recommend bringing earplugs, but this will likely be the case in every hostel in a big city!

Looking at some of the reviews here I wonder if they really stayed at the same place? + The location is great, very central however the street isn't very busy at night and no drunks around + The rooms and bathrooms are clean + Free breakfast, which is quite basic but there is hot stuff, cold stuff, savoury stuff, sweet stuff and fresh stuff available, and amazing fresh baguettes + The lockers in rooms are fairly spacious, despite what some reviews claim, and there are more lockers available for free by the reception if you for some reason feel the need to travel with your entire kitchen sink + Towels. Supposedly for 1 euro, I was just given a towel at the reception for free, so maybe the trick is in not being an a*se to staff + Despite some reviews, there is in fact soap available in the rooms - One star off because the rooms could do with some form of air conditioning or at least a fan The lockout can be annoying however you are told about it on the hostel website as well as on all third party booking sites, so if you are not ok with it just go somewhere else. It's not like they don't tell you about it (many times) in advance.

I recently stayed at this hotel and I was extremely disappointed with the lack of air conditioning in the rooms, which made the atmosphere stifling and uncomfortable. The poor-quality fans they had instead only exacerbated the situation. Additionally, the shower water was unreasonably hot, making showers very uncomfortable. Despite my complaints, the staff failed to resolve these issues. Overall, I do not recommend this hotel, especially during hot periods, as the lack of air conditioning and scalding shower water made my stay very unpleasant.

Stayed here for one night. We stayed in a private room with two single beds and our own shower and toilet. The location was great. 10-15 min walk from Central Station. The ho(s)tel was close to the shopping area. There are many places to eat or drink nearby. Less than 15 min by foot from Grote Markt/Grand Place. The (French-speaking) staff is friendly. They don’t offer free towels, so bring your own or rent one (+ 1 EUR). You can store your luggage in the luggage room. They also have lockers for your backpack or suitcase. The use of the lockers is free, but you have to bring your own lock. Our room was decent. It was clean enough. There was a band aid in the window sill (the cleaning staff probably forgot to toss it in the trash) and a stray hair in the shower. The only downside is that the walls are thin and you can hear the people in the hall or in the room next to yours quite well. If you are sensitive to noise, bring ear plugs or noise-cancelling headphones. The hotel offers a complimentary breakfast which was better than expected. Apart from toast with butter, they also had baguette, ham, cheese, scrambled egg, bacon, fresh fruit and yoghurt.

Location: good one, very close to the city center. We had a 3 people room which had a private bathroom. I dont know how do they make it to have the rooms so warm even in the night when its fresher outside. This technology ive never seen. Its a real sauna: avoid during the sommer. It was all clean, vibes are good. The breakfast is very basic, dont expect to be eat well for the full day, think about lunch. Not for old people, grannys… its a youth hostel as its name says. Wifi is almost non existant

  • 2/5 Lee Z. 7 months ago on Google
Sleep Unwell. We had 2 private rooms. The worst was the incredible heat in the building and especially the rooms. Even though it was like 15 degrees Celsius outside and with open window, the room did not cool down. The ventilator provided did not work, on level 3 and right in front of my face I couldn’t feel any wind. The smell on the sleeping floors is very bad, like vinegar and toilet cleaner. The room was not properly clean. Toothpaste stains on the bathroom floor, sticky fluid running down the desk, some litter around the bed. The bathroom door was broken. The shower head holder did not keep the shower head in place. The mattresses and pillows are all like latex covered. The mattresses were way too soft. The pillows were like a balloon, very stiff and not able to bring into shape. I have never slept so bad to be honest. One sweats on the material, and the covers slip off to easily. There were way too few electrical sockets. The wifi did not work in the rooms. Although we had the “do not disturb”-sign hanging, the cleaning personnel just entered without knocking. Breakfast was okay-ish for the total price. There was a stolen and searched thought backpack in the public toilets, I would not trust the luggage storage. Location is good.

Central location and a short walk to nearby stations or the main shopping street, bars and restaurants. Nicely setup hostel with some common chill out areas. Room was compact and basic but functional and all that is required for a short stay. Only one staff completing check in procedure and there was a line out the door causing a short wait when I checked in

Very neat and clean hostel. Book earlier for better price. I booked it for a night in 33 euro (including good breakfast). 15 min walk from Grand Place and attractions. 15 min walk from Flix Bus Station

I was very happy with the staff and the way they were communicating. The only downside I saw, was that some plugs next to beds were not working. This happened to other beds that friends of mine stayed. Other than that, the location is ideal and clean environment

  • 4/5 Lorna P. 4 months ago on Google
It is modern but with the least neccessities. I requested a hairdryer from front desk and it was free of charge. You have to take your own shampoo. You have just toilet paper and a bottle of soap. For us it was enough to have a comfortable bed and clean environment. Good, simple and fresh English breakfast. We were there 2 weeks ago, 4th floor.

Great option especially for someone who wants to go to Brussels for city break. I was there with 5 friends. We had a room for six people with a private bathroom and toilet. The room was very clean. Breakfast wasn't as tasty as I supposed but for this price I think it was enough.

This hostel is one of the best I've stayed in. Staff are super friendly and always willing to help! The showers in the dorms aren't completely frosted so it lacks some privacy. But other than that I can't fault the hostel!

I was here for a long time. Lovely and very friendly receptionists and staffs. Clean and calm environment. Loved it. I was there for almost a month and they would leave sugar for me cause I always need extra sugar for my coffee which was really sweet of them. Has a common area where you can work in a tranquil atmosphere. And small garden area. And the entire vicinity was kept clean not just the rooms. Totally recommended it.

It's perfect for me. Especially loved the room choices we have. Usually I prefer to stay alone and there it's possible as well. Rooms are really comfy and, what I loved, really minimalistic. Next time hanging out in a mixed room.

It was a really best choice to stay in this hotel after a long tiring hours trip. Their room is simple but clean and just have enough space to rest and sleep well. I wanted to point out what makes it a best place to stay when visiting Brussels is that, the staffs are so welcoming, kind, attentive to our needs, and they really made our stay convenient and comfortable. PS! The free coffee which serves from around 6 to 10 AM was also among the tasty and aromatic coffee I had so far! 🤩

  • 4/5 Alireza T. 2 years ago on Google
Location was the best, can't be better. Very close to city center and quite far from noise. The self-service breakfast was really good, however, it was tasteless... The cleaning of shared toilets could be better, it is quite smelly... also it would be good to put hand sanitizer in hallways. But all in all, I recommend it!

Affordably priced accommodation that has a great location in the city and offers free breakfast. My roommates were polite and friendly. I had an enjoyable experience.

  • 3/5 Lukas E. 1 year ago on Google
Great reception staff, swift check in. The location was great, and was close to shops and various stations. The lift, whilst dated, was appreciated for getting to our room on the top floor. We chose a private room with an en suite. The room (at first impressions) was good, however, we quickly discovered numerous issues. The showerhead didn't stay in the holder, the TV remote wasn't even for the TV in the room (and wasn't even for the same brand), the walls were "well used", by suitcases. There was a hole in the wall, where it looked like there once was air conditioning, which was definitely not present. A fan was however provided (and greatly appreciated). If you leave your window open, you will often be reminded of the fact that the location of the hostel is near a large multi-storey car park. Car horns are frequent. Breakfast was free, which was nice, however if you're vegetarian, you'd probably be very limited. If you're vegan, they probably won't have anything suitable unfortunately. The reception staff allow you to store bags after check in, in a secure, locked room, which was great for spending some time in Brussels before getting the train back out.

  • 4/5 Jamie R. 1 year ago on Google
The shared room I stayed in was nice and spacious however didn't provide much storage room. They were cleaned every day. The staff were very friendly and spoke many languages. The hostel is in a great location with nearby metro links and one of Brussels main train stations near by. It's only a 10 minute walk into the main part of the city. A free breakfast is provided in the form of bread, hams, cheese, eggs etc. I would say the only downside of this hostel is with having a lockout.

  • 5/5 Katia 10 months ago on Google
The staff was super friendly I got a random and really nice surprise of an upgraded room which I really appreciated. The room was super clean, no noise, amazing to rest and walking distance from places to see. They offer breakfast as well, it may get a bit crowded but nothing to worry about.

  • 2/5 Niamh 1 year ago on Google
I would not recommend for solo travellers as it’s not very social. Not allowed in the room from 11-3pm and there is no lockers in the room to store your bags. There is 10 lockers downstairs but always in use. Breakfast included which is nice and is good. Rooms are just okay and location is good.

  • 2/5 Moe A. 1 year ago on Google
Rooms are fancy but the washrooms are in the bedrooms so if you do your business the smell will be all over the place. Some people go at night and it's disgusting. No free food. The location is far away. The hostel is full of teenagers. The lockers are tiny and the lock you need to use is super small. So make sure to bring a useless lock that can be broken with a single push. Make sure to take all the valuables with you and never in the locker.

It was an amazing visit, hostel have a great location, breakfast are delicious and this have different options. Have bar, computers, place for play with others, elevator. I thought that it was different but i recommend that you visit this place, it is a place clean( room haven't air condition)

A great place to stay. Nice all around. I’d like the room to be with brighter lighting, though. I was unfortunate with roommates but it should be good if you get a private room. Breakfast is good as well. Location is fine for me.

Things we liked: Location, room, cleanliness, breakfast decent for a hostel. Things we didn't like: They gave someone else our room after checking in, and those strangers came into our room whilst we were sleeping. When I went down to complain about it, the lady on reception was quite rude. She did admit she'd made a mistake though. (A side note: the fact that their systems even allow an allocated room to be reallocated during a stay is very surprising to me. Most systems would be designed such that this wouldn't be possible.) Our heating didn't work and it was -6 outside. The room got very cold. We could see our breath. They provided blankets, which were very warm. She was very nice and kind when we went back to collect the blankets. TV didn't work. Summary: We were up and down between the room and the reception like yoyos 😅 but the overall room and facilities were clean and decent.

  • 5/5 Julia W. 1 year ago on Google
The room was appropriately sized and the bed was comfortable. There was a full bathroom within the room, that's always a plus. Service was nice and helpful when needed, checking in and out was really quick. The free breakfast was good and there was enough to go around, even close to closing time.

  • 3/5 Enfinity 5. 1 year ago on Google
Location is very good, close to main train and bus stop. Walking distance 1.1 km max. Rooms are good. But the lock of our washroom was broken. Internet connection is worst. 1.9 Mbps was my max speed. Breakfast was good with multiple options.

Really amazing place at the very center of Brussels! The place is really clean and they have lots of common areas for you and your friends to hang out with. What I love the most is their free breakfast buffet (I ate a lot, and the food was really good). I also won't forget the kindness of the staff working on the front desk as they provided me with all the important things to remember and also gave very helpful tips going around the city center. I also met a lot of good friends during my stay here and overall I believe that I made a good decision to stay here while I was here in Brussels.

Bicycle rental available at any time, can agree at the reception for dinner charge. The place is very clean. Nice bar zone available downstairs. Personnel was friendly and helped with finding the main route for sightseeing. The lock-out thing every day was terrible. You need to take all your clothes from the room and store in the luggage room from 11 to 15 o'clock, which brings you a lot of discomforts if staying more than one day.

  • 5/5 Yuying R. 1 year ago on Google
The staff was amazing and the facility was excellent. You'd find everything you need there. I enjoyed the breakfast and liked my roommates. The only drawback was that the power outlet near my bed was broken, and I could tell it had been broken for a while. I had to reach over someone else's bed to use hers. Still, I would stay here again if I re-visit Brussels.

  • 5/5 Craig L. 1 year ago on Google
The only crazy thing is you can't access your room between 11-3pm for any reason, you have to leave so they can clean even if it doesn't need cleaning. Anyway I spent 2 nights and it's worth the money with the free breakfast, plus it's close to pretty much everything.

I liked most things about this property - the rooms were clean and spacious, and the front desk staff were friendly and helpful, however most of the other staff were strangely rude to me. I got shouted at on more than one occasion. I wouldn't recommend against this property because the location is central, but maybe just avoid interacting with all staff members not related to the front desk.
