FLASH: Aksum is the perfect place for a break in the Royal Galleries of Brussels LOCATION This cafeteria offers an "artistic" location with furnishings and details that recall the Heart of Africa. Cozy and warm: dogs are also allowed (Pain Quotidien which is next door, for example, does not accept it). The service is full of sophistication and original details. You don’t take just a coffe But an experience. It’s also a shop! You can buy coffee coming from Africa. FOOD There is really a wide choice of hot, cold drinks; great offer of sweets. the Muffin made from this coffee deserves an OSCAR!!! The cortado is very good. I also suggest their tangerine juice SERVICE Kind and attentive staff; professional and friendly service

Coffee is good. Seating chairs and decorations are lovely. Waffles are awful. Marble cake is a rock but edible. Prices are above average for the quality of food. Wouldn't come back again. Service is average but lovely employees.

Aksum Cafe offers a delightful Ethiopian culinary experience. The cozy ambiance, rich aroma of injera and spices, and warm service create a unique dining journey. Savor their injera platter and traditional coffee for an authentic taste of Ethiopia.

Very authentic ambient interior. Waffles were warm ( I guess they took the advice from previous reviews). Moroccan tea was nothing special just water with mint. Except the waffles there was nothing else to eat as it was sold out (at 14:00pm on Saturday),something to improve. Staff was a bit short but overall service was good.

I still can not believe that I spend 3€ on that little waffle! ( look at the picture, I had not touched it when I took the picture) Ginger tea 6€! Which was basically boiled water and ginger. And the staff was really unfriendly. I went there with my mom( she is an old lady) they were not patient enough to treat her as an old lady deserves! Disappointed….!

Fabulous coffee and beautiful cakes. The cafe is decorated with Africa-inspired theme. They serve various African beans, primarily Ethiopian. Service is very good. Their apple cake is one of the highlights!

A beautiful Ethiopian cafe, with eye catching interior. We were warmly welcomed with excellent service. Was a great way to start our day in Brussels with hot ginger tea, pound cake, toasts and cappuccino.

Whilst on a guide tour I quickly passed by here for a take-away coffee. Had to wait 15 minutes for a simple americano, despite it not being that busy and after asking twice for it as my tour was disappearing from eye sight. Asking seemed to annoy the barista. The coffee itself was unusually bitter but still tasty. What annoyed me more was that I paid for a large (€3,5) and got quite a small cup of coffee. Thé inside of the café seemed original and cosy. I'm sure you can find a nicer, less touristy place to enjoy a coffee.

Both waffle and coffee tasted good. Service was pleasant though a bit slow. Outdoor seats too narrow.

Great service and reasonable prices, people serving us were very friendly and accommodating. The turmeric iced coffee is great and iced Americano was perfect for the hot day. Toilets were clean also. Would love to come again

The café is perfectly located, the interior design looks very nice, and offering only high quality Ethiopian coffee I was pretty sure to have a great experience. We only wanted two espressos for takeaway but unfortunately service was very slow and quite unprofessional. It feels like they don’t exploit their full potential.

We went there to have a little tea, it is a little on the pricy side given the area, but we really liked the presentation and the taste of the tea. The sugar dispenser was a little tight so I had to unscrew it.

Euer Ernst??

Loved the place. No better place to sit, have a cappuccino and watch people walk by. All for $4.

IT USED TO BE AN ETHIOPIAN COFFEE SHOP. Aksum started as a little authentic Ethiopian coffee shop managed by true Ethiopians a few years ago. The shop was so successful that someone understood the potential of this business and bought "the brand". Nowadays, it became a little chain of coffee shops that you can find in city center in Brussels. It has nothing to do with the original concept which was to offer the true Ethiopian experience. Consider this shop as any Starbucks shops just branded differently. Anyway, coffee is still decent, prices a bit less.

They have a very slow service, it took over 30mins for tea. It is also overpriced. This very small cake is 4 euros and the ginger tea costs 6 euros. They have a beautiful decor though... take a tour and leave.

Lovely place, great staff, food and environment. I had a brownie and capucino, very tasty. A bit of Africa in Brussels...I felt home! This place has my heart.

Overall it’s ok, almost 4 star, but the espresso was just too small and when i complained that this is a ristretto at best, he told me that it would be even less. Maybe I was wrong so here is a picture of my espresso (untouched, it was never full)

€19.50 for a latte, hot chocolate, waffle with chocolate syrup and a bite sized baklava. The coffee was good but everything else a serious let down - hot chocolate was served cold. Waffle was old and stale tasting, was absolutely tiny and to pay €8.50 for a waffle with some chocolate syrup is a disgrace - you can get excellent waffles everywhere else for less than €4. Avoid avoid avoid.

Don’t go. We will certainly never return. Extremely disorganized service, crazy long waiting times. It took almost 30 mins to receive 3 espressos and one hot chocolate and almost 40 minutes for a waffle. Water and cutlery forgotten altogether, we had to keep asking for everything. Way too many staff members, who seem to have no clue what they are doing. The food and drinks not worth the price. And certainly not worth the waiting. The furnishing and atmosphere is nice, feels authentic.

Despite being located in a busy arcade, this establishment is rather disappointing from both quality of service and quality of food and drink served. Had to wait 25 minutes for an espresso, which at the end did not arrive… I suggest to avoid this place and rather choose a confectionary across (Dandoy) or any other cafe, as this one has nothing to do with hospitality service.

I got a quick cappuccino since it is "Corona time" so I cannot comment on atmosphere. The barista was very kind and communicative. I LOVED the quality of the coffee, strong and not bitter. I highly recommend the place!

  • 4/5 Florian W. 4 years ago on Google
Had a quick iced latte to go, so I can’t comment too much on the atmosphere. The coffee itself was nice, although it took a bit long to make and wasn’t all that cheap. Factor in that the barista gave us a not exactly friendly and welcoming vibe, and you get an experience that’s merely decent, not great. Would come here again for a coffee to go, nothing more.

Had a nice latte for 4 euro. Not an amazing coffee, but very fast and lovely service in a beautiful location close to the train.

Very tasty coffee and good service despite what I have seen in other reviews. Clean bathrooms and ok spot on the sink if you need to change you child’s diapers. Good place to have some rest while on tour around Brussels.

The coffee is good but incredible expensive! €5 euros for a large (which is more of a medium) cappuccino is way too much, even for a coffee house. The staff were also quite unfriendly. The music played is good but it's just too loud to be able to sit there in peace or have a normal conversation with someone. Overall: good coffee yet too expensive, would only recommend if you have too much money to spend and only for take-out

  • 1/5 Roger T. 2 years ago on Google
Paid 4,5 euro for one of the worst hot chocolate I ever drank. We just received a glas of milk with almost no chocolate and nothing else aside.

Only one man running the place, causing a long wait. Coffee was ok I guess. Compared to the rest of Brussels. (Why is a good cup of coffee so hard?).

The coffee was excellent, one of the best we’ve had in Brussels. The hot chocolate is *dark* hot chocolate, like most in Brussels. That is what is throwing off the American tourists. It’s actually the best hot chocolate I’ve had in Brussels. The service was very nice, but it took them a little while because they were still opening (grateful that they let us in:)). The venue is absolutely beautiful, and the music they play is surround sound stereo, very high quality! Our croissant came from a bag, but it was still good so I don’t mind. I have no clue why Aksum has a low rating, it’s a great place for coffee or pastry in the morning.

Lovely location for people watching and taking in the atmosphere. You pay a little bit of premium for the seating location and the coffee was not that strong. We've had better fit cheaper.

A delightful cafe inside the grand-dame of 19th-century galleries--Les Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert / Koninklijke Sint-Hubertusgalerijen--just off Brussels' Grand Place. I fell in love with this glazed shopping arcade when I spent a quick day in Brussels in 2013. I had a chocolate tart and mocha cafe. The tart would have been better without the citrus oil or zest on top and with a crust of something other than what tasted like graham cracker, which overpowered the chocolate due to being overly sweet. But the staff are wonderfully attentive and warm.

We ordered 3 Americano small, and each of the 3 cups came with a different amount of coffee and were cold. When we asked they said they didn't know why.
