A nice place to learn about Belgian comics. We were really fans of Tin Tin but couldn't really find much of him here. It actually got kind of boring after a while. So if you are not an indoor person who like to patiently scroll though sketches and information boards, this is certainly not for you. There was a long queue on the day we visited which was a Sunday sine the covid pass check is taking much time.

Comic strip museum. This museum offers a lot of exhibitions on the history and development of the comic strip, from earliest history to modern times. Unfortunately there's no audio guide, and I found the exhibitions a bit sparse. The place is huge, but a lot of it is empty space. The things that are there, are really well displayed, with a lot of nice photo ops. The Louvre exhibition is also quite well done.

So many different names for this museum on the internet. There's this, the Belgian Comic Strip Center, and the Comics Arts Museum. We stopped in because we had the Brussels Card but honestly, probably would have skipped it if we didn't have it. It was just before 12:30 on a Friday. It's cool if you like the smurfs or are super into comic books (which I am neither). I did like the exhibit where they featured women policitical comic artists from all over the world. We spent probably about half an hour before we left.

Good museum dedicated to comics! Maybe exhibition can be a bit more interactive and fun, it is mostly cardboard panels with few objects and movies. Good for around 45 minutes maybe.

This is a very detailed museum on the history of comic book art through the ages. As you would expect there's a focus on Belgian and French comics from the 20th century. The information panels are in French, Dutch and English. There is a bit of an attempt to make the museum interactive for kids, with "observation" quizzes alongside some of the information panels, but there definitely could be more interactive elements. I think the museum might be quite dry for young children, which is a shame. The bookshop is wonderful with loads of titles to explore. It would be even better if they had a wider range of books in English 🙏

This is an excellent museum for any comic fans in Brussels. There are three different floors. There is also an app that if you download it you can scan specific statues and plaques that shows you the augmented reality version of what you scanned. This museum is an excellent place to visit if you are a tourist in Belgium and are looking to pass some time.

Fantastic comic museum! My family loved it. It’s a quick visit unless you read all the captions. If you like Tintin, Asterix & Obelix, Smurfs, etc…I highly recommend a visit here.

Never thought I'd visit a comic arts museum, but I did and it was great! There's tons of content in the really neat Horta art nouveau warehouse. Everything has detailed descriptions in French, Dutch, and English, though the English text is sometimes printed much smaller than the rest. And most of the comics displayed are in French, but that's fine, the art transcends the written language.

For the comics fan this is obviously the place to visit in Brussels. Beside the permanent and temporary exhibitions the museum bookshop has an impressive collection of mostly Belgian and European comic books. For the non comics fan the building itself is a Horta designed masterpiece with a lovely Cafe/Brasserie for that much needed rest.

Must visit for comic art lovers. From the larger than life replicas of Tintin, Captain Haddock, Prof Calculus, Snowy and the aircraft to moon etc, the museum traces the history of comics. Very interesting comic related artefacts on display including how comics were made and coloured. They do a data collection for visitors with some quick questions. The lady asked me which country I was from and when I replied India, she ticked on "Others". On my question, she said the format is old one. May be one day, there would be many visitors from the country having more than a sixth of world population to have a separate column! Nice collection nevertheless!!! Smurfs, Son Goku, walking bed, Lucky Luke on horse, many comics panels etc are on display. Good for 1 hour to 4 Hours depending on how big comic fan you are and how much time you have at your disposal! Please don't confuse with another museum dedicated to Tintin which is far away from this.

Average experience. Ticket is too expensive for the quality of the expo. Accessible for people with disabilities. Restroom available at all floors. The building is very nice from architecture point of view. Bookshop is nice, but they don't put the price of the book... Parking is not easy around the area, better to use public transportation if possible

It's a museum about comics and especially Belgium comics. A lot on the smurf and black & mortemer, litt ok e about Tintin. What I enjoyed is the Passion of our guide who explained also the origin of comics and all the work which goes into it. The building is also beautiful.

This was a great museum to visit for an afternoon. The exhibits were really interesting and the place was very well laid out. The only thing we found however was that with a lack of an audio guide, we felt a little lost and so ended up drifting through the end parts of the museum. The exhibit on the Louvre was really interesting too! The staff however were so lovely and welcoming which made the experience really enjoyable.

Interesting little comics museum. Some really good insight into the process of creating a comic story and illustrations. Very focused on Western comics rather than manga or anything, but that's understandable given its location!

Entrance fee is 13 euros, which I feel is overpriced for what you see. I thought there would have been a display on TinTin but there wasn't. There is an interesting section on The Smurfs.

A beautiful building full of history designed by the famous Belgian architect Victor Horta, this is a must-go museum if you live or visiting Brussels. Belgium is the home of many comic books creation (Tintin, the Smurfs...) and it would be the sensible thing to get connected to the history behind it. I loved that the museum administration gave the spotlight to many new young artist as well, what more can I say, you will love the gift shop.

Honestly, cool museum. Fun to see. However, I've visited it a few years back and thought it was better back then, it seemed that the museum is going through some renovations. There is also a comic strip library and that is awesome.

Museum is a big word, more like semi-interesting exposition of Belgian comics. The building and the exposition about comics in the louvre are interesting and beautiful to see. But the rest is hit or miss, cobbled together and sometimes flagrantly offensive. Belgian comics are known for their racists stereotypes and the unwillingness of authors and publishers to rewrite those, even long after. The exposition does a poor job of thoughtfully engaging with this history. They mention the racist stereotypes but don’t condemn them. Their approach is, and I am not making this up, literally a sign at the entrance that says “be aware May contain harmful images” and a screen playing Bridgeton (the netflix series) on loop. What the point is of showing Bridgerton, the series know for its racial equity in a phantasy world of class inequality, is unclear. One can only guess that it’s meant to show that even Hollywood is more thoughtful about race than Belgian comic publishers? Either way — it’s an experience to go here, but don’t be disappointed if all you get for the not-cheap entry fee is a tour of nice Horta building and a short course on Belgian casual racism, but in comic novel form.

I love this place! If you are a comic book lover like I am then I HIGHLY recommend this museum. I have always learned comic history from a United States perspective, this was a chance to learn the history from a new set of eyes. The temporary special exhibits that were there were fascinating and on top of it the museum is located in an incredibly beautiful building. Cannot wait to return!

Nice museum for kids. As a fun of smurfs I expected something more. The building is excellent and book store is located at the basement. Even if you have booked your tickets you have to wait at line. If you don't have kids maybe it's not worth it

Very interesting museum of the comics art, with history illustrations how the comics art originated and developed through the years. Also, information about the architect and history of the semi-industrial building where the museum is located is given. Worth to see in Brussels!

You can enjoy your time here with different exhibitions: you have the history of comics, some of the different styles which were developed, you can see some of the works of female comic artists who draw to make social commentary, but also enjoy lighter stuff like the Smurfs or comics for children. It is family friendly, had the descriptions of the images in english, french and dutch (I think), and tickets are easily bought at the ticket office. A good way to spend a few hours in Brussels with friends of family

Excelsior! Fantastique!! Wunderbar!!! Phenomenal!!! A wonderful museum in an amazing building only adding to overall experience and atmosphere. A history of comics and then a series of introductions to the process with dozens of original pieces demonstrating the art, and then thematically arranged displays. Exhibits frequently change, so on this occasion, the Lombard company who produced Tintin had an incredible exhibit - built like an IKEA show room sequence, it was astounding and in cupboards one found art!!! Of course the Smurf section. A fabulous shop, with some very unique items and then La pièce de résistance! The Library.... I am researching comic articles for Fanzines, and had a desire to see comics only available in French from over the decades and this is the place to see them. Dimitri was so helpful! It's a wonderful place to study comics, to read the studies of comics, and my hours went by too quickly. It is a fabulous museum and library.

I've heard that Brussels is the comics capital and all, so I've decided I should include this museum. In general, it is really an informative and quite big museum for comic book fans, but maybe it should be a little more interactive (maybe I'm affected by how so much more interesting I've found the other museum I visited in the city). Still, it is definitely worth seeing it.

We came here as a group and were guided by Isabelle who showed quite a passionate expert in her tour. I understand some people perplexity and the same having had an average experience. My advice is that as it is a very complete museum which needs a lot of concentration from the visitor, it is recommended to either bring your kids and dedicate to their universe during the visit, or to alternatively keep it among adult visitors. I loved the area of "Art Nouveau et Neuvième Art" since i am a fan of François Schuitten. This is a very recommended visit worth the reasonable price asked.

Lovely comic museum! The museum itself is somewhat short even with reading the exhibit information, but the building is beautiful and the library at the bottom is worth the cost of entry alone. It was a cold & rainy day the day we went so we went through the museum fairly quickly then spent a few hours sitting in the library reading comics. Perfect spot the relax from the city pace for a bit.

(Translated by Google) You can’t see what the space is from the exterior. After entering the interior, it is a characteristic building with classical elements. There are some comics and merchandise sold inside, such as the theme of "The Adventures of Tintin". Although this is the representative "cultural and creative element" of Brussels, It’s hard to see related products after you leave here, so if you are interested in toys such as "red rockets and shark submarines" in the comics, you can buy them when you see them. Don’t think: "There are still many days to come. You may be able to buy it elsewhere, too.” It’s almost impossible to find it. Just like the merchandise of "The Blue Elf", you can only find it in the specialty store near Central Station. Don't even think: "You can buy it online in the future," because one is difficult to find, and the other is definitely more expensive, and the shipping fee will be added. So many great informative showcases. In addition, in a very beautiful old building in Art Nouveau style. Our son as a comic fan was thrilled. Above all, so much old things from the past could be seen. We can only recommend it, we enjoyed it very much. The next time we are in Brussels, we will consider a second visit as the special exhibitions keep changing. (Original) Wundervolles Museum. Definitiv einen Besuch wert. Nicht nur für Freunde des Comic. Man erfährt viel über die Anfänge und Hintergründe und das Entstehen eines Comic. So viele tolle informative Schaukästen. Noch dazu in einem sehr schönen alten Gebäude im Jugendstil. Unser Sohn als Comicfan war begeistert. Vor allem so viel Altes von früher war zu sehen. Wir können es nur empfehlen, uns hat es sehr gut gefallen. Wenn wir das nächste Mal wieder in Brüssel sein werden, werden wir noch einen zweiten Besuch erwägen, da die Sonderausstellungen immer wieder wechseln.

Very interesting museum. You can go through the history of comic strips. Very informative. They also have an application that you can download and use during your visit, it makes the experience even better.

It brought back all my childhood memories. Here you are able to experience the explanation of difference category of comics as well as some icons such as the Smurf and Tintin. If you are a comic fan, do not miss to pay a visit here

Get to know Boerke and more amazing comic pieces. Although most of them were French, the fact that the museum content was super up-to-date after coronavirus gave us smile.

The tour is really well planned, the building is really beautiful itself with its Art Noveau style. The museum offers you a QR code to scan your audioguide in many languages (italian, english, german, french, japanese, dutch, spanish). The museum is 100% wheel chair friendly, the staff is really kind and nice!

My fav museum in Brussels so far. Beautiful building, the sections are well divided and tell you a full story about comics. They have now one section with comics about the pandemic, very nice. It covers the history, comics in Europe and also Asia

(Translated by Google) There are fun activities, but some visitors were not allowed to do because of the pandemic. You get a lot of information about the comic strip history in Dutch, French and English. My children enjoyed a lot. Price is good too. The museum shop is cheaper than many other bookstores, there are very nice books, definitely recommended.

(Translated by Google) Contains the explanation how a comic is made and that is well explained. Also housed in a beautiful Horta building. But there is a piece of Tintin and of Peyo but Where are all those other comics? Blake and Mortimer, Buck Danny, Rik Ringers and many more. Also no Suske en Wiske, etc. And why is there still Christmas decorations in … May?

(Translated by Google) Very nice museum and price qualities there is only one big disadvantage .. both in the shop and the museum there are very few Flemish comics which is a shame for the children. In the museum, the long texts are always translated into English and Dutch, but this is not so interesting for smaller children. There was 1 fragment from Samsom & Gert from which the text was simply removed and then left blank .. there is hardly a Flemish offer in the shop. Too bad for the little ones.

A walk through time! Heaven for those are/were really into european comics/characters(tintin, smurfs etc.). Entry is with a ticket and they also have guided tours(good in case you are not that interested in comics but the kids are). It is littered with comic characters, artifacts and cover art which makes the place double the fun.

If you are into comics and anime , you should visit this place, mostly Smurfs realted and the shop is having great options of action figure ,books and posters. Ticket price is 12 Euro and the place is conveniently placed. There was set of one piece manga also in the shop but it was not in English though.

  • 3/5 Anton Van D. 1 year ago on Google
Nice place if you are into comics. All the other reviews are true. Nice info about the history of visual storytelling, missing many great names, only European and mainly Belgian artists, not very suitable for children, nice building but bad climate management etc. If you are very much into comics as an adult, a must see. Otherwise I would advice to visit another place in Brussels.

Opneming times on Google are misleading. The museum's phone won't answer... The two staff members made it up though. Please answer the phone when someone calls.

It's a building worth visiting for the architecture alone, then you have a very well furnished comic store, with the souvenir side museums have. There is a lot of space and it's well worth it to go see exhibits.

Beautiful building, lots to see and read. The ticket allows you to enter again at different times of the same day so you can see it in sections as it can be overwhelming with information. A nostalgic place for comic and illustration lovers.

If you like comic books, you will love this small museum. For me it was a trip down memory lane. My favorite part was to look at all the sketchbooks displayed in glass cases, as I tremendously enjoy to have a sneak peek of the the creative process.

Might not seem like much of a museum at the start, but it's the little touches that tug at your heartstrings and make you fall in love with this place. It has a very endearing feel to it, and holds a special place in one's heart. If you love cozy quiet reading corners, you'll love the second and third levels of the museum. The smurf corner is a nice touch, especially the red mushroom house. The reading corner for Petit Poilu is wonderful, perfect for children to pick up the comic book to read.

Lovely museum, very well maintained and cheap. The experience was very good overall. Wish they would explore more about Astérix, Tintin and Lucky Luke

Good idea for a museum but not recommendable for non-french speaker. All the stripes are French only, some of the signs are also in Netherlands and English but only provide information that seems to be common knowledge so we didn't learn anything new here. Also the entry fee (13 Euros regular!) is really high for such a small museum with only little added value. Its okay if they can't present the big and well known comics due to issues with the rights or them not being Belgian but then I would at least expect alle the Belgian comic artists in more languages to be able to get to know them as someone who did not grow up with them. Also the children's does not really provide anything cool and appears to be unloving and reall cheap just like the design of the rest of the museum. The virtual reality thing (you can download an app for free and then aim at the big comic figures and they will tell you something about them) is a nice gadget but would make more sense to translate the comic strips. They have a library which costs an extra fee and a room where you can read some of the comics which is included in the ticket. I liked that. Also they have a cool smurf section with a smurf house for children to enter. I hoped for a whole museum like that. All in all I would not recommend to visit the museum. Unfortunately we also had a very unpleasant experience with a very rude staff there.

I like certain styles more than the others. I found a new comic I like, Boerke. The museum was playing the animation of this cartoon and its very funny. Most of the comic display are in French (I think), so I don't understand most and was mostly looking at the pictures.

An immersive experience in a beautiful building with friendly staff. A truly enjoyable experience with all signs and labels in french, Dutch and English. The interactive virtual experience on the accompanying app added another dimension to an already very informative display. I would very much recommend this to both young and old, and to those with a passing interest to an obsession with comics. I have little knowledge or much interest in comics but still enjoyed my 2 hour stay in this museum

Quite a fun museum if you love comics and grew up reading Tintin, Astérix and the Smurfs! FYI: You can only get tickets at the door, there's no online booking
