Went there as part of a visit to the Waterloo battlefield during the anniversary weekend, when there is a major re-enactment with canon, cavalry and even a Napoleon impersonator doing the rounds. It was excellent. I was also lucky enough to bump into the excellent people from Waterloo Uncovered. Look them up if you don't know what they do and watch their YouTube channel which has loads of great information about Hougoumont and the battle of Waterloo. Minor criticisms of the visitors site as a whole were that food and drink can be pricey and there is nowhere to refill water bottles leaving you having to buy water from the vendors on site with all the extra expense and plastic waste that creates. If you go specifically for the re-enactment be prepared that there was no English commentary so you need to have a good grasp of the events of the battle before you go, otherwise it can all be a bit confusing. Overall though a really good place to visit.

The Video Performance was ridiculous, involving 3 rotating screens, presenting time and again the same half relief on the one side. Notwithstanding the importance of the old farm for the victory over Napoléon, to me the best of Hougoumont today are the old trees which give a palpable testimony of the past.

Although I haven't had the real life honor of visiting this place, in a game called guts and black powder It left a very good impression. I'd love to see a gathering of this game's fans take place here.

The must-visit part of Waterloo battlefield. The farmhouse complex contains a small but helpful museum with a good selection of artifacts. But the biggest reason to visit is to see the North Gate and walk the Large Garden. This is the only place on the battlefield where you can feel as if the battle is going on around you.

Amazing to see and learn about the history and bravery of both sides during the battle of Waterloo. The video show was very impressive too. You can still see the damage from musket balls in the walls and on the few trees that are left.

A modest farm of a great historical value. Unfortunately, it was closed so we couldn’t get in. We saw however the symbolical chestnut tree. It represents peace and memory.

After watching the Waterloo battle reenactment, we walked 2km to visit the Hougoumont Farm and the Last Headquarters of Napoleon as it was mentioned at the event webpage that visit to these monuments is included in the ticket price. However, when we went there, we were told by the employee, that there was a mistake and that Ticketmaster mistakenly wrote that these are included in the ticket price. So, we were denied entrance, although there was a miscommunication between the Waterloo Museum and their partner, Ticketmaster. So although they recognized the error, they still did not allow us in, Unbelievably bad service!

In recent times the most famous farm buildings from the battlefield of Waterloo are now spruced up for centenary Now in strange yellowing coat of paint but open to exterior inspection with door code from battlefield museum Unless you get inside it's best to known a bit of the action and the importance of this position. See the famous gates of Hougoumont where two brave soldiers managed to close them in the battle to save the farm.

An excellent historical venue with a film which brought it all to life. I have wanted to come here for years and was not disappointed.

A nice and historic farm, dating back to 1637. This is the place where Napoleon started his offensive on June 18, 1815!

Really nice to see and learn how the battle of Waterloo happened, objects found in the field were present in the day, small buttons and cannon ball from the French side.

WITHOUT a DOUBT-- the single greatest video production at a museum - EVER! DO NOT MISS IT. The epic story of Hougoumont Farm is unbelievable. We did the entire trail, from Napoleon's Bivouac area to the Picton Memorial... 📺 @destinationeverywhere 👍 @comeseeitall 🎵 @we_explore_everywhere 📷 @we.explore.everywhere

The multimedia presentation was fabulous and the place itself seems a well preserved and pivotal part of history. The staff was friendly and helpful. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is that we couldn't connect to the wifi to use the Vizit webpage and the places with Vizit numbers did not have posted signs providing even minimal information.

Difficult to give a higher number of stars as it was closed when advertised as open, nevertheless a very moving location.

A fascinating place to visit and explore, particularly the chapel. Definitely don't miss the video presentation, it is absolutely brilliant to watch and gives you a great overview of the battle there. There's a small shop on site which does sell cold drinks too.

Worth the walk👣from Memorial to the farm. Take the walk back behind walls through the battlefield where Ney's 🇫🇷cavalery🐎charged in 1815 back to the 🦁.

A sombre place that has an atmosphere. It has guided tours but they only scratch the surface of what went on here. The video show is a little date and could be improved in my opinion.

About +/- 1,5km from the mount, and easily walkable. I really liked the show here, very informative. Don't forget to download the app, because the show itself is in French, and with the app you have access to other languages.

Fantastic to follow the history around and inside this battle within a battle. The Orchard ,Walls and the musket holes in the trees almost ring with screams and musket fire. Good museum sand show in Barn

A must visit for any military history lovers. So happy to have finally visited the farm. The young lady on reception was very friendly and helpful. The video in the barn is well made if a little long. Highly recommended a visit to get a feel of the events that happened here.

Because of the strong wind, one of the ancient chestnuts fell. The caretakers say they will try to restore it and fortify it in its original place. in the meantime, they are guarding it from local residents, who do not mind placing this three hundred year old tree as souvenirs.
