I enjoyed this museum very much - the permanent exhibition (some impressionism, some art nouveau...) but also the temporary one which was on photo realism - something I would say I don't like but when I saw those masterpieces I changed my mind completely! Would love to visit again if there's something interesting.

I especially like that this museum is not too big. I have been to many of their well curated exhibitions and always thought great selections were made.

(Translated by Google) The Ixelles museum is housed in the buildings of a former slaughterhouse. It has a beautiful collection of sculptures and paintings by famous Belgian and French artists from the 19th and 20th centuries. Furthermore, a drawing by Dürer (The Stork) and numerous original posters by Toulouse-Lautrec. The other rooms are used for temporary exhibitions. The museum is currently (end of 2019) closed for renovations.

A nice little museum, albeit with a bit of a cold ambiance. Their opening hours are a little odd compared to other museums, but they make up for this by often having interesting exhibitions.

There are so many museums in Brussels. Every community seems to have one. But this one is special. As Elsene/Ixelles is the community with the most galeries of Brussels, this museum is worth a visit. Their permanent collection brings you in the right mood for Ixelles. You get to know all the important painters that lived and worked here, but the museum also organises many great modern temporary exhibitions that are time and time again worth the journey to Elsene.

Great small museum, exhibition space. Enjoyed lots the Doisneau exhibition, last week anf still on. It'll be even better after renovations, starting in April 2018. This means it will be closed a few months, but worth the wait I think.

Rich and unexpectedly big museum containing the biggest Toulouse-Lautrec collection in the world. The building also leaves som space for lesser known Belgian artworks.

(Translated by Google) The Museum of Ixelles, also called the (Municipal) Museum of Fine Arts of Ixelles, is the public museum of the municipality of Ixelles in the Brussels-Capital Region. The municipal Museum of Ixelles was founded in 1892. It was the result of the donation by the painter Edmond De Pratere (1826-1888) of his art collection to the Municipality. For the establishment of a museum, he chose the buildings of the recently decommissioned slaughterhouse. They were completely refurbished in function of the new destination and are until now the Museum. The new Museum was regularly expanded. A municipal fund purchased artworks. Important donations also led to the expansion of the collection. There was the gift from the Brussels lawyer and art lover, Octave Maus (1856-1919), which consisted of more than 200 impressionist and neo-impressionist works. Other donors were Léon Gauchez (1825-1907), Joseph Botte, and Max Janlet (1903-1976). An important donor was the painter Fritz Toussaint (1846-1920), brother-in-law of architect Joseph Poelaert. A hall in the museum bears his name. The municipality of Ixelles has a remarkable art collection that can be viewed in this small museum. There are lesser-known works by Rembrandt, Fragonard and Picasso and original posters by Toulouse-Lautrec. In addition, the museum has a varied collection of works by the Belgian symbolists Léon Frédéric and Léon Spilliaert. Belgian artists such as Magritte and Rik Wouters are also represented - there is a copy of Wouters' bronze statue The foolish virgin. The museum's collection includes more than 13,000 works (Gaston Bertrand, Paul Delvaux, René Magritte, Berthe Morisot, Constant Permeke, Pablo Picasso, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Théo Van Rysselberghe, Georges Lemmen, Emile Claus, Anna Boch, Fernand Khnopff , Ferdinand Schirren, etc.). It is a kaleidoscope of works from various art styles, such as realism, impressionism, luminism, neo-impressionism and symbolism, in addition to works by artists who were inspired by Fauvism, expressionism, cubism, surrealism and the lyrical and constructed Abstract art. A particularly beautiful sample of Flemish masters is home to some representatives of foreign schools and a remarkable collection of fin-de-sièclea posters - including the complete collection of Toulouse-Lautrec's original posters - are an enriching addition. From 1958 Jean Coquelet was at the head of the museum. He regularly organized important temporary exhibitions. In 1973, the construction of a new wing came into being. Nicole d'Huart, who succeeded Jean Coquelet in 1987, continued to organize temporary exhibitions. In 1994, the 'banquet hall' located next to the museum was integrated as an exhibition space. Became a curator in 2007, Claire Leblanc, like her predecessors, provided important temporary exhibitions, including: Paul Delvaux. A selection of works on paper (2008-2009), Steinlen, the eye of the street (2009), Fading (2009), La photographie n'est pas l'art. Treasures from the photography of the avant-gardists to today Art Collection Sylvio Perlstein (2009-2010), The Painters of the Sonian Forest. Front garden of Brussels (2009-2010), El Cubismo. Cubism and its context (2010), from the Fundacion Art Collection, Close-up (2010), photo collection of the Museum of Ixelles, Photographic exhibition Laurent Friob, 10 years of acquisitions of the Museum of Ixelles - 2010), From Dürer to Jan Fabre . Masterpieces (2010-2011), Paul Delvaux, sculptor (2011-2012), Belgian art, a modern century. The Caroline and Maurice Verbaet collection (2012-2013). Through its collection, its thematic exhibitions and the accompanying catalogs, events and gatherings, the museum has acquired a considerable image, far beyond the local or even Brussels public.

👍👍 To visit or not to visit, that was the question. From the outside you think, ok, a boring place with uninteresting things. That was a wrong assumption as the visit is definitely worth it. It's best to book tickets online. These are also free. At the entrance the exam takes place like at the airport,...

👍👍 Great place for architecture lovers and people willing to understand their surroundings when they walk in Belgium's streets. Except the gallery, there's also a kids place, sadly only in French and Flemish, that is very suitable for adults too as it goes deeper in the explanation of the different key...

😠 Calling to book, the angry man makes it clear you’re an irritation for him as you dare to disturb his day. Sigh, hrumph, tut, au revoir. On arrival, parents are barked at, ordered around and told they can’t sit with their children (understandable in a way, so that the children can see the stage). Bu...
