The Old Masters museum is a part of the Royal art museums in Brussels and is a must see if you are an art lover. The gallery is on the top floor and there is plenty of light to do the paintings justice. Most of the paintings are from European artists between the 15th to the 18th centuries. Just below the gallery is the cafe, bar and restaurant so there is no need to leave the museum for food or drinks. The museum shop has prints and memorabilia from most of the artists

If you like the old masters then it's a must. There are some beautiful pieces here. There are two other museums that share the building. I came here specifically to see the death of Marat, but enjoyed the other pieces. I definitely recommend the audio tour guide, which is a few extra euros. The paintings do not have a lot of information posted, so the audio tour guide is an informative extra. The dude at admissions did not offer the audio guide, I had to ask whether one was available. The gift shop is kind of hidden, but there is one with a variety of items to commemorate the visit. You can take photographs of the works, but you cannot use a flash.

An art museum that everyone should visit at least once in their lifetime. So many amazing artists and art pieces. Visitors should allow for more than one day in order to take in the amazing collections on show.

(Translated by Google) It was behind these canvases that I came to Brussels ... The Museum of Old Masters mostly presents paintings by Flemish artists ... The exhibition is divided into eras. Canvases of the XV-XVI centuries are collected on one floor. Here you can see the work of the so-called Flemish primitives: Rogier van der Weyden, Dirk Bouts, Robert Kampen, Hans Memling, Petrus Christus and Hieronymus Bosch (The Temptation of St. Anthony). In the halls devoted to the painting of the XVI century, collected paintings of representatives of the schools of Bruges and Antwerp. One of the halls is dedicated to the paintings of Gerard David, the other presents the works of Quentin Mathays. The last room on this floor is dedicated to Bruegel, the father and one of his sons, Peter Breugel the Younger. Another floor is reserved for painting XVII-XVIII centuries. It contains masterpieces of Peter Paul Rubens and Jacob Jordaens ... + Frans Snyders and his student Jan Fit ... Super ... and there are also canvases by Dutch masters, Italian and French .. 3 hours in the same breath ... Super... а ещё есть полотна голландских мастеров , итальянских и французских.. 3 часа на одном дыхании...

(Translated by Google) The museum, one of the royal museums of fine arts in Belgium ... the painting is simply beautiful ... spent a total of two and a half hours here .. In the collection of the Museum of Ancient Art there are about 1,200 works of European art, covering the period from the XIV to the XVIII centuries. The collection is based on Flemish paintings, almost all Flemish are represented by their significant works. Among the paintings “The Annunciation” by Robert Kampen, “The Pieta” and two portraits of Rogier van der Weyden, several paintings by Dirk Bowts on religious themes, Petrus Christus and Hugo van der Goes, several portraits and “The Martyrdom of St. Sebastian "Hans Memling," Madonna and Child "and the triptych of the Leuven brotherhood of St. Anne Quentin Maysis," Venus and Cupid ".... the museum contains 7 paintings by Peter Bruegel (the Elder) including the famous “Fall of the Risen Angels”, as well as “Adoration of the Magi”, “Winter Landscape with Skaters and a Bird Trap”, “Bethlehem Census”, “Landscape with the Fall of Icarus” (early copy), “Wine on St. Martina ”(early copy),“ The Yawning Man ”(authorship is disputed). The work of Rubens is represented by many canvases, including "Christ and the Harlot", a sketch with the heads of blacks, "The Adoration of the Sages", "Carrying the Cross", "The Martyrdom of St.. Livinia "," Martyrdom of sv. Ursula "," Landscape with the hunt of Atalanta "," Portrait of Petrus Pekius "(?)," Miracle of sv. Benedict, Fall of Icarus, Drop of the Titans, and Coronation of the Virgin Mary. Cloths by Jacob Jordaens: "The Praise of Pomona," "St. Martin heals the obsessed "," Susanna and the Elders "," The Contest of Apollo and Pan, "" Satyr and the Peasants. " Van Dyck's paintings: “Portrait of Jean-Charles della Faye”, “Portrait of the sculptor Francois Duquenois”, “Portrait of a Genoese lady and her daughter”, “Rinaldo and Armida” ... In addition, Peter’s Flemish collection of the Museum of Old Art is kept Bruegel Junior, “Storeroom” and “Deer Hunt” by Frans Snyders, “Drinkers in the Courtyard” by Adrian Brauver, “Flemish Fair”, “Card Players” ... The Dutch collection of the Royal Museums is modest, but it is notable for the quality of the exhibits. These include the image of children and several portraits of Frans Hals, Portrait of Nicolas van Bambeck, works by Rembrandt, The Common Glass by Peter de Hooch, The Meal by Gabriel Metsuys, View of the Harlem Sea by Jacob van Reisdal. The most popular exhibit in this section of the museum is a triptych “The Temptation of St. Anthony "(a copy of an unknown artist from the workshop of Bosch) ... This museum is a must see! A gorgeous old building filled to the brim with artworks from the "old masters", think Rubens, Breugel, Rembrandt, Bosch, and more. The audio guide could be more extensive, they leave out a lot of paintings, but the ones that are covered have in depth descriptions with a bit of history and interesting tidbits. Absolutely loved this museum, so much gorgeous work on display!

We came on a Wednesday afternoon and expected mayhem as admission is free after 1 on Wednesdays, but we were pleasantly surprised. Things did not get crowded until 3pm and even then, there was always some place more quiet to wander into. More than half the didactics provided English. 8 year old loved asking questions and making up her own stories about the Old Masters paintings. Staff were kind but unobtrusive. Gift shop offered many cute items actually related to real work the museum owned.

Musée Oldmasters (Old Masters) is a member of the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium and a good place to view Flemish masterpieces from the 15th to 18th centuries. Museum opening hours 10am to 5pm (Tues-Fri), 11am to 8pm (Sat-Sun) and closed on Mondays. Entrance fee is €8 per person. Alternatively, you can purchase a museum combo for €13 which provides entrance into the End of Century and Magritte Museums as well. This museum was started by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1801 and features Flemish masterpieces by the likes of Rogier van der Weyden, Memling and Hieronymus Bosch. There is an impressive holding of works by Pieter Bruegel the Elder, second in number only to the Kunsthistorisches in Vienna. Works by Peter Paul Rubens, Anthony van Dyck, Rembrandt and Jordaen's amongst other Netherlandish Old Masters can also be viewed. Within the collection, we most enjoyed seeing Brueghel's 'Fall of the Rebel Angels' as well as the Bosch Triptych of the temptation of St. Anthony. In the end, we enjoyed our two hours browsing the Old Masters collection and would happily return to the Musees Royaux Des Beaux-Arts to see the Old Master's section of the museum complex again. If you enjoy fine art, give yourself a couple hours or more here to enjoy the Flemish works available to be seen. Note: The combo ticket is only good for a single day so make sure you reserve enough time to adequately visit the End of Century and Magritte Museums as well.

The old masters museum really deserves a 5star rating. Perhaps it’s a mistake on my part but combining it with the Magritte museum it’s not so good. Magritte is too dark and gloomy and has too many etchings a small sketches. I probably would have been better just doing the old masters … that section is excellent.

Great museum! I will come back there because the Magritte museum was close when I was there. The ladies in the reception were exceptionally nice and even gave me tips which other museums to visit in Brussels. The staff in Old Masters were also very nice and helpful. 🥰

The museum where Rubans is king. They’ve dedicated one wing to the master. Not busy like some world class museums and just enough to keep you busy for a good hour. Beautiful exterior and cavernous interior.

Beautiful collection. I recommend taking your time and getting to know the story of the paintings, even though there's a big section of religious works that might not be immediately interesting to you- a lot of them have hidden quirks and neat back stories.

(Translated by Google) Very nice museum, airy and with a coherent and clear course. Very beautiful works, including, of course, a room reserved for Bruegel ... A price of 10 € more than interesting to spend a very good moment of culture ... However, beware of the staff who frequent and take care of the museum's gift shop: we can hear them swearing like charetiers and talking as if they were leaning on the first bar in the corner, without worrying about the visitors ... Really lamentable, especially if children pass at the same time ... (Original) Très beau musée, aéré et avec un parcours cohérent et clair. Kids not friendly. Awful. If you have a small scooter or bicycle for the kid 4 years old - it is notre possible to enter. They don't have any place to keep this kind of stuff. You can not enter even to the museum shop. I would like to wish better organization of the visits for the families with the kids. At least to provide some storage for the kids transport stuff. First time I see such Unfriendly attitude

I've always loved this collection and even studied it for my postgrad. There are new digital ticket booths now and the Covid measures mean that only part of the museum is on display. However, a lot of the collections were out of sight before Covid 🤔 Disappointingly the museum does not take part in the Museum Pass (card with free access to over 180 museums in Belgium) which is rather amazing given it is the first national collection. Collection quality is still very high and new display is not bad at all.

This place is a must go for an art lover. So much detailing and finesse in every artwork. Although not as many sculptures as one may expect, but all the artworks are masterpieces. The ambience gives the classic 'old money' vibe. I ended up spending hours here. The staff members were also very helpful. Must visit indeed!
