Gorgeous museum with a lot of history, both for the building, the collections and its surroundings. Some exhibitions are dated and in some places the museum needs a bit of TLC, but it doesn't make visiting it any less worthwhile. We visited purely for the temporary Inca Textile expo, which was gorgeous. All objects had been cleverly given a place and there were some interactive spaces for kods as well. In the permanent exhibitions, especially liked the medieval carpets (which Brussels used to be famous for) and the massive mosaic and columns in the Roman Hall.

Interactive exhibition on the background and culture of Brussels. Available in French, Dutch, and English. There are a lot of different rooms to explore and many interactive points to get an in depth view of this dynamic city. Unfortunately a few of the projects didn't work when I visited, but entry is free and if it's not too busy, it's a great place to explore and learn more about the people living here.

Great place to visit to learn more about Brussels, history of the city and lifestyle of people loving here. It’s interactive and gives many interesting facts. If you really wanted to listed and read everything you would spend a lot of time there. Entrance is free of charge. Definitely recommend visiting when in Brussels!

A neglected building that has seen better days; steps leading to entrance has rubbish and grass growing out of the cracks, plaster work inside needs attention + a lot of display cases appears to be from the 1930s. Generally poor curation. That having been said, the building contains some remarkable material, and because of this is worth a visit. Note particularly the Ethnic American collection - one of the largest in Europe. Note also that display notes are only in Dutch and French.

(Translated by Google) Large collection but could be presented less boring Positive: - The staff at the entrance were friendly and helpful. - Large collection. Points for improvement: - Pay more attention to the highlights of the collection. - Use more imagination for the presentation of the collection, and more multimedia. The entrance to Rome, for example, was already a step in the right direction: a model and a film. Unfortunately, the film was always circulating in French. I know there is a button for the selection of the language of the film, but with Corona I prefer not to touch it. That is why it is better to do the audio loop alternately in another language NL-FR-EN-NL-FR -... - As suggested: use more audio (eg medieval banquet sounds, ...), more video, more variety. Decorate the rooms more, in the theme of the room (instead of bare walls). For example, do more with that mummy from Tintin. Use those opportunities. - Some rooms were closed for no reason. Corona? Indicate the reason to the visitor. - The visit actually got a bit boring and monotonous in the long run. - The entrance to the museum could be much clearer. I have been to the Cinquantenaire several times in the past months and passed along that side, but I had no inkling that there was the entrance to A&H museum! This may (should!) Draw the attention of unsuspecting passers-by (eg flags on the outside). - I visited the museum near closing time (3 - 5 pm), because I thought it would be quiet. On the contrary, because security people were at one point in a group (4 to 8 people) talking LOUD at the back of each room. I understand that they have to 'close off' every room, but I experienced this noise as VERY annoying. - Based on the name of the museum I thought I saw more 'Arts' (in the traditional sense: paintings, etc.) but I thought the objects were mainly historical ('History'). Not a problem in itself, but a bit misleading. - It would be useful, for example, to announce 15 minutes in advance that the museum will close instead of being 'surprised' when the time comes.

On July 15 at 9h28 at the entrance, nice ladies took care of my daughters right away and according to them it was the best visit among many. I adore

(Translated by Google) For art and history lovers, this is THE place in Brussels. In addition to impressive collections, hyper-competent and attentive staff, a bookstore and reproductions of objects that complement your visit well. For comic book fans, the mummy who inspired Rascar Capac and the statue Hergé reproduced in the broken ear are featured in the display cases. It takes several days to see all the collections. (Original) Pour les amateurs d'art et d'histoire, c'est LE lieu à Bruxelles. The route runs through the entire collection, (too) much information, should it have more context. Rome and Celts fascinating. Presentation is at times boring for ordinary visitors. Lighting could be better. More English text provided. Horta interior Wolfers and art deco is very worthwhile. The highlight of the museum's permanent collection is surely the exhibition on islamic art and culture. Well organized with additional material available in English and German. That can sadly not be said for the rest of the museum. It is probably not a usual custom to include an English descriptions in countries where there are two main languages. But it is counter-intuitive not to include an international description.

This museum is Brussels' answer to the British Museum. It is divided in two wings. The right one as you enter deals with Belgian history and has sections on the Paleolithic, Neolithic, Bronze Age, Iron Age, the Roman era, the Merovingian era, the Middle Ages, the Renaissance and Modern Times. The tapestries and woodwork from the 15th and 16th centuries are particularly amazing. The left wing has collections from the Americas (Native Americans and Meso America in particular), India, Tibet, China, Korea and Southeast Asia. There are also temporary exhibitions.

There are some magnificent items in the collection and the museum is vast but it’s in some serious need of curation and renovation. I cannot fault that they have made the museum ticketed entry only during the aftermath of COVID-19, nor can I fault that there were toilets during the tour of the museum. However, the course that we were sent on was oddly timelined and asked too much of visitors. To go through it, you really need to set aside around 3 hours but there are no descriptions in English (only French and Dutch) and the museum failed to make it an interesting visit. For a museum so big, I would suggest that they curate it so visitors can choose what time in history they would like to see, otherwise you go through a whole course from medieval history to renaissance to Peru to pre-America to Greek and Romans. It has no rhyme or reason. A shame.

If you can spare at least 2 hours, this museum is a must. Although the roman and Egyptian era can use some redesign, the other parts of the museum are already up to date. The building itself is also quite interesting and serves from time to time as an extra. You can really enjoy all kind of era's, going from the early settlements, roman, Egyptian, Mideavel, renaissance, etc. Also artifacts from cultures allover the world. And for fans of Tintin, it houses the mumie of rascar capac and the one eared statue.

(Translated by Google) There is a lot of information that helps to understand the city. Lots of interesting statistics. It is a museum whose theme is the city, its inhabitants, its districts ... You have to go there for that. Take the time to read the signs ... At the end of the permanent exhibition, there is a large marquette with a console. We saw several visitors gusty by using only a few options to light up certain areas and continue to the temporary exhibition. However the last option on the console of the model launches a kind of video which is projected on the back wall and which lasts several minutes and gives really a lot of information, while using effects on the model. It's really good! And many visitors miss it, unfortunately. Upstairs, there is a temporary exhibition currently (September 2018) which includes augmented reality. Well, the effects are more artistic, it wasn't really my style, but the technology is interesting, it's the first time I've seen this in a museum. You can borrow a tablet for this section or use your own phone. At the entrance there are the instructions to download the Android or iOS app. (Original) Il y a beaucoup d'informations qui aident à comprendre la ville. Beaucoup de statistiques intéressantes. (Translated by Google) I went twice to this museum. The first time I did floor 1 which explained a lot of things about Brussels. I find this museum very interesting because it is not too much to impregnate and go through each room. Nice interactive model, very informative. The second time I went for the 10 years where there were poets in Brussels as well as a one man show and a band still in Brussels. Truly unbelievable! It was great! I recommend so. Vraiment incroyable! C'était génial! Je recommande donc.
