A museum about creating stuffs in everyday’s lives, mosty from plastic, some from wood and glasses. There is not much to see. However, we have tickets from Atomium which would already include this museum. So we come.

This facility is a true gem for anyone interested in design! The Design Museum in Bruxelles is a must-visit for those seeking inspiration, innovation, and creativity. From the moment you step inside, you are surrounded by a welcoming and inviting atmosphere that showcases the very best in modern design. The service is exceptional, with knowledgeable staff members who are eager to help visitors navigate the exhibits and answer any questions they may have. The museum's ambiance is sleek and contemporary, with plenty of space to explore and admire the many exhibits on display. The quality of the products and services offered is outstanding, with a wide range of exhibits that will captivate both design experts and novices alike. What makes this place special is the emphasis on highlighting the diversity and inclusivity of design, with a strong focus on sustainable and ethical practices. While my experience at the Design Museum was excellent overall, I felt that some of the exhibits could have been more interactive, especially for younger visitors. For this reason, I deducted one star from my rating. However, I do appreciate the effort the museum has made to provide engaging experiences for visitors of all ages, and I believe that with a bit more focus on interactivity, the museum could become even more popular. To improve the museum, I suggest adding more interactive elements to some of the exhibits, such as touchscreens or multimedia displays. Additionally, offering guided tours or workshops would be an excellent way to engage visitors more fully with the exhibits. Overall, I highly recommend the Design Museum in Bruxelles to anyone with an interest in design or art. My visit left me feeling inspired and motivated, and I am eager to return in the future to see what new and exciting exhibits the museum has in store. Thank you to the owners and staff for providing such a wonderful experience!

We had a combined ticket for the Atomium and the Design Museum. And what to say? We've been very happy about!! The museum is absolutely a visit worthy, especially for people with interest in design, furniture design and arts. Great exhibition, very friendly and helpful employees. It's not that huge, but if you are interested you will take your time to watch everything.

Amazing collection of design objects, if you have an interest in contemporary design this place is a must. With student reduction you can also access the Atomium for peanuts. I get some people might be disappointed but this is a design museum, not the history of technology. If you see so many chairs it is because such a simple element of furniture has been the subject of countless studies and new designs are proposed, one after the other.

Functional design, I am born in the wrong century 😅 Quite a variety of furnitures, objects from daily life. Molding was quite a thing then. There is a space where you can try the chairs, people looked at me funny, but it was worth. They are OK that you take pictures, but you can't use your flash (it deteriorate pigments! And you don't want to use your flash for great photos, I even had to turn ISO and aperture way down WITH a cpl filter ^^). It's worth to visit with a camera and CPL filter, lighting does a LOT and taking pictures with while playing with your filter will definitely give you joy, at worse, a second look 😉 Note: if you bring kids, you'll have a hard time to keep them from touching the pieces, I net adults failed ^^

Museum content was okay and super interesting. However navigation of the museum is not intuitive. Also, there were a lot of noise because they were adding new stuff to the exhibition. Attention was awesome. The lady ad the reception lend me an euro to use the lockers because I didn’t have coins with me. Also, the Atomium basic ticket includes a ticket for the design museum. If you start from the Design Museum no one tells you about the combo 😕. All in all was interesting and has potential but lots of things to improve

Went here because it's close to the Atomium and it's included in the admission ticket. It's a museum dedicated to plastic and the impact it had on society, notably in furniture, fashion, and mass production. One section has a lot of furniture and home furnishings made with plastic and how they were created and designed. There is a small room with information about plastic, like how it's made, the composition of atoms, why it isn't recyclable etc. Then there was a special exhibition on music, particularly punk, on designs, and it's impact on society. It was mostly a lot of posters and records with various of type of art. Other than that, it's not much to see. I would not make a trip out of it, but if you're at the Atomium and have some time, it's free.

Interesting museum and plasticarium exhibition - all plastic objects from different years. Kids learn on various types of plastic and their usage. There is also a "design for clubs" exhibition and an interesting music room as to experience the feeling of being in the club. Nice for kids 😉 The price for access is included in the ticket to the Atomium so you shouldn't miss it.

Beautiful collection of Belgium design furniture, mostly chairs. Even the most exotic design of a chair can be found here. There was a temporary exhibition at the exit, where the artists were there too.

Really nice museum but i guess it also has to do with the time you visit. The day i visited plastic was the theme. Not many items on display but interesting and well presented. The staff was polite and very helpful.

It's a nice museum to appreciate some local and non-local design. The ticket is included with the atomium one. They are quite close to one another so there is almost no excuse not to visit them both 😉

It's a disappointment. Its starts with a good note then ends at the journey of plastic. It should be named as Plastic Musuem! This place is promoting the use of plastic while we need places to discourage the use of plastic.

Surprisingly very interesting museum. Current exhibition was on objects made with plastic and was actually very entertaining. There are locker at the entrance where you can put your bag or jacket and they are free, you only need 1 or 2 euros for getting a key, then you'll get your money back. I highly recommend you go there after your Atomium visit! It's included in your normal ticket.

Definitely worth to visit, you got free entrance with Atomium ticket. Probably even more interesting then inside the Atomium:) lots of plastic, unique examples from modern era till now. Not only belgian designers stuff. And no idea why its only 3.9 rating as it one of the best places to visit in Brussels.

Very interesting permanent collection with unique designs around plastic over the decades, some world-famous pieces included. Well-thought-out explanations in 3 languages (English, French, Dutch) so it's quite accessible to lots of people. Some interesting temporary exhibitions to top it up, like the one on the evolution of the design of ephemera in Belgian club scene throughout the decades. Easy to reach via public transport, so quite worth a visit on a rainy day :)

There is no story telling in the exhibition.. The viewer doesn't get an indication of how exhibits are related to each other through the management of the space. All and all not worth the time /money. Go get a waffle and admire the atomium from the outside instead.

Interesting exhibition on plastic. Worth the detour after your visit to the Atomium. I believe there might be some temporary exhibitions as well, but we didn't have the time for those. There might be a limited amount of exhibitions due to covid-19 as well. Particularly it was fun to see all the "old" plastic objects from my youth. I would have expected a larger exhibition, though.

Made our day! Loved to read about our daily life furniture history and authors, difficulties they faced while designed those chairs, computers or anything that surrounds us everywhere, everyday. We were especially surprised that this museum has entire hall dedicated for non successful designs, super funny and interesting to hear what stories they hide behind and why couldn’t work in real life.

Ticket was free. Lots of plastic design items from the 70s

When I bought a ticket for the Atomium, It came with a ticket for the ADAM design museum. And so because I basically got a free ticket, I decided to go visit. Otherwise, I don't think I won't have gone since I'm not that into design. It is an interesting place to go if you like furniture design, the 60s-70s-80s, and/or punk culture, with a diverse collection of chairs and gadgets from the previous century, as well as posters from music groups and concerts. Unfortunately, as I'm not really into any of that, I can't give the museum more than 3*.

Free entrance with the Atomium ticket. Really nice pieces of pure design. Plastic exhibition, terrific!

Pretty cool stuff And nice staff

Quite interesting but verry expensive. The exhibition is only really small.

We had tickets for free for the Design Museum with the purchase of Atomium tickets (16€). The Museum is not really of interest, but it was still nice to have the free ticket. Yet, if you have to pay the entrance it's not really worth it if you have no special interest in plastic design...

It's worth the visit with the free tickets from Atomium, but not otherwise. The space is excellent, ample, and well-lit. However, the exhibition (design with plastic, 2021) is very niche and boring. They could explore other media, illumination, and audio forms even within the same subject. For example, the experience of being inside an injection molding machine. A video of impact tests of polycarbonate at different temperatures in a dark room. The place has potential; however, IMO the team has to be bolder in arranging the exhibition.

If you go to the Atomium, take a look since it is likely that the Design Museum is included.

I am not sure if I would buy tickets to go here. It was bundled with the Atomium and it was close by. It contains some decent exhibition items. There is a gallery dedicated to evolution of plastic usage in furniture.

Well, I can see why they are piggybacking their tickets on Atomium—I can’t imagine anyone coming here on purpose. Their collection is pretty cool, but it’s just a huuuge space with exhibited items and brief textual descriptions. It’s extremely boring, I’m sure if they put a little bit more effort into it, they would be able to come up with much more entertaining ways of presenting it.

The museum fee is included in the atomium admission fee. It's a not too crowded place with a big exhibition on plastic and design of the 70s and 80s. Quite surprising to see devices that my parents have used in their youth 😅

Entry was free with an Atomium ticket and is well worth the visit for those interested in mid-century design. Is only a short walk from the Atomium back towards the Heysel metro station. The main exhibit was much bigger than expected with some really quirky pieces, really enjoyed the visit.

Great museum with a very Bauhaus execution. Nice collection of very well preserved items (nov 2021, space age/plastic design). Facilities on site (toilet, shop with great items, workshops? On demand). Not too big so in case you visit prepare another visit for the day.

Not the most interesting museum I have ever visited but each to his / her own. Always worth a visit if you are there anyway, especially if you have visited the Atomium as your the museum ticket is included anyway.

We went after visiting the Atomium. Smallish museum. Would be interesting to get more information about different styles and eras.

If you go to the Atomium, this is an excellent opportunity to visit this very interesting place. You don't need to be an expert in design to appreciate the innumerous pieces of art. Creativity of artists is impressive. You'll be delighted with this visit.

Impressive collection and history of plastic. It's interesting the amount of plastic that we use both consciously and otherwise. The museum has a large collection of both novel plastic creations and mundane once such as chairs and tables made of plastics etc. It's a recommended visit as the ticket was sold as a combo with Atomium. Its only 150m away from Atomium.

Quite interesting museum, I really like all the unusual turniture they have there. We visited it mostly because the tickets from Atomium gave us the access, but I was still considering it.

There is the exhibition of plastic that has some interesting pieces but other than that there is nothing special.

Nice place! I bought the Atomium ticket and the Design Museum was included. Unfortunately there was only 3 exhibitions. But interesting!

Interesting piece of furniture's... Not a major design museum. Pricey for what you have to see

  • 4/5 Andy R. 8 months ago on Google
This was included in the entrance ticket price of the Atomium otherwise I would not have known about it. It’s not a huge museum but what is there was very interesting and presented in very cool, funky way.

The location is a bit far away from the center city. It has only one floor, but with quite interesting collections of modern design. The temporary exhibit is about the queer graphics in Brussels.

  • 5/5 Andrei C. 5 months ago on Google
The museum is located right next to the Atomium and the price of an entrance ticket is 10 euros (adult). After I visited it, I went to the Atomium, where the price of an entrance ticket is 16 euros (adult), BUT this price includes both visiting the Atomium and the design museum. The people at the design museum didn't give me this information... So I recommend going to the Atomium first to buy a ticket with which you can visit both locations.

The design museum focuses on the Belgium design waves, mainly with a very interesting exhibition on the plastic and how the different design schools expressed their economic-social-political worlds of their time. Particularly interesting was the exhibition about a Belgian designer which was showing his way of work and thinking through his archive and personal items. It looked like the museum had great potential, however it felt a bit neglected. The 3 ⭐ was merely coming from this feeling. If you are around atomium, it is worth your walk around (the entrance fee is already included on the atomium ticket)

👍 A very pretty and restful garden close to the Atomium. It is a lovely mixture of formal planting and gentle drifts of flowers. It has small lawns and ponds with secluded terraces where you can sit and enjoy the scene.
