Found this gem from google reviews so wanted to leave my own. Cute little diner, exactly what you’d expect! The mimosa was nice and strong and their biscuits and gravy was unique in the best way (this southern girl doesn’t play with subpar b&g!). Everyone was so kind and the atmosphere felt comfy. Great way to start off your day, especially if just in town visiting. There’s so many cute shops and boutiques nearby too so I loved its location.

This place was above reproach for us. The poutine was the best I have experienced. The shakes were fantastic and delicious. The burger and avocado BLT was amazing. The staff was friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was so laid back. We will definitely be going back there. It was worth the drive.

First time coming through to Sioux Falls and we stopped by for some quick breakfast. This is a cute little diner and the food was exceptional. Not to mention the service as well! We were lucky to be served by Jen and she was very nice and super attentive to us. We recommend this place to anyone, if you’re looking into enjoying a nice breakfast.

Awesome diner, right in the middle of a cool area of town. We sat at the counter and enjoyed a very good breakfast. Service was good and employees friendly. The menu has a lot of great options to choose from however, we were feeling pretty basic! Pancakes and French toast is what we went with and they were both very good. My “two-two-two” came with 2 eggs, 2 strips of bacon and 2 pieces of French toast with berries and pecans. I recommend stopping on for a great diner breakfast followed by a walk around this cool area!

Cute little retro diner in the heart of Sioux Falls. Their food is very much homemade and not cookie cutter. Excellent sandwiches, pasta, and salads. Milkshakes are to die for. Best thing...they did not force masks on us which we truly appreciated - kindness goes a long way. This place does it right!

There’s nothing anyone can love more than coming to a small town even though I would argue Sioux Falls is far from a small town but compared to my home city of Los Angeles… I think you get the point I love driving around the city but the first place I found to have breakfast was this diner I thought everybody incredibly polite both my waiters for the nicest people ever met in your life and the music that they played was absolutely hilarious I felt like jumping up and singing like that dude from risky business… Oh yeah his name is Tom Cruise only I would’ve worn pants. The breakfast menu and the ceiling is incredible I found myself very comfortable in ordering the farmers scramble I got it in less than six minutes and it was delicious but the portions are much larger so I had to take it home and I enjoyed it two hours later and it tasted just as good… I can’t recommend this place enough I want to go back tomorrow before I leave and see what their pies are like.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time here. The service was outstanding and I only wait 5 min for my food. The diner is well staffed and there are many people bustling around to take all the orders. I enjoyed a very nice banana bread French toast and delicious bacon. I would definitely come back in the future. Just be aware this place is popular and expect a wait during busy times on weekends etc…

We had a great time but sadly, we came to get a shake and the freezer was broken so no shakes for us today. That being said, our server was great and the food was wonderful. My daughter said the Mac n cheese had spiral noodles and apparently that makes the best Mac n cheese. Another child at the table next to us proclaimed that they have the best orange juice in Sioux Falls, so I guess if you need the best orange juice, this is where it is. My son said his food was great and it made him ready for a nap so I guess that means he is well fed and happy. My jambalaya was a tad salty but still very good. Lots of good food and all of us left very happy despite the lack of shakes. I guess that just means we have to come back!

I had lunch with my mom and ordered a meatloaf with mashed potatoes and broccoli. It didn't take long to get the meals served to us. My dinner was a big serving of meatloaf. There was a nice waitress and I think you should go there if you're wanting to get your money's worth. That was my first time eating there and I will go back.

Delicious breakfast and just what we needed before continuing our journey. The portions were a good size and service was great. An added bonus was the outdoor seating.

We finished with the malabi custard, topped with grapes and sesame brittle, and the pear sorbet. I appreciated that the desserts were light enough to enjoy without feeling over-stuffed. I preferred the custard, with its excellent sweet/salty balance.

An old-school vibe diner. We got a sandwich, french toast, and bread pudding. They were all good but not amazing. The London fog was one of the best earl grey tea latte we’ve had in a while though. Our server was friendly and the food came out quickly. The diner has a seasonal menu, showing that they try to create diverse food choices for their customers. Overall, a great place for brunch in Sioux Falls.

This is a neat little place, with a great nostalgic look/feel. It appeared to have several open tables when walking by, so decided to have dinner here. Once inside, there was a 30 +/- min wait, which they would just text when a table was available. No problem for me & I actually received a text within maybe 15-20 min. After arriving & being sat at a table, it was at least 15 min before we were even acknowledged for a beverage. Waitress was not rude, but I wouldn't really say she seemed to be a people person either, due to a few instances through the meal/desert. Food came fairly quickly. I had the hot beef (1/2 order) and friend had the roast beef/french dip sandwich and both were really good. Cheesecake and chocolate cake was good as well. Nice place and good food. Would have loved to try a shake, but was a little too cold out for that, this visit. 😉

We visited on an early Saturday morning during a rush and we were seated fairly quickly. The wait after being seated to service was less than 5 minutes. Our food was very fresh and cooked to perfection. Not overcooked or undercooked and it was handled very well. The fruit was fresh and the syrup was hot to the table which is a small but exceptional detail. The only complaint about this place was that we didn't get a refill on our waters but we had 2 excellent espressos and didn't notice until after leaving. The wait staff was friendly and fast, food was fresh and flavorful, and the view right outside was excellent. A fantastic diner experience.

I did not feel this lived up to its reputation. The waitress gave the impression we were putting her out with some basic questions about the menu. When the food came, the chicken wrap had NO chicken! The jambalaya was very good but the portion was small. On a more positive note, the waitress was quick to correct the chicken wrap.

First time eating here. In the area on vacation, was told about it while visiting the Falls. Had the chicken and waffles with pecan butter. Chicken is dipped in buttermilk and the waffles were very tasty. Honey had Elvis waffles, she really enjoyed it. Great service from Josh. Short wait time to be seated and receive our food. Worth the wait. Very clean facility and they have a patio for those who want to sit outside. Prices were good too.

5 stars and not happy? No pork wings! Fine. I'll try the juevos rancheros burrito. BEST MISS EVER. Got sinus problems? This thing will clear it out! Flavorful and huge. Stuffed with hash browns. Sorry for the left over photo. Couldn't stop eating this!

  • 5/5 Kurt W. 1 year ago on Google
Best diner experience and diner food ever! I had the hot roast beef sandwich and it was beyond incredible. Served with mashed potatoes and loads of wonderfully savory brown gravy it was a tasty roast beef sandwich. But the real treat was the roast beef itself... My goodness! Best roast beef I've ever had, large, thick cut slices of perfectly cooked roast beef... Simply to die for. To be honest we stopped in hoping for breakfast and I found those options a bit slim for my typical diner preferences. What I had to replace my breakfast cravings may have changed my life as I search to replicate the best hot roast beef sandwich I've had in my life!

Stopped here while doing a walking tour of Sioux Falls downtown. I really enjoyed the Frisco Melt burger. The bread was perfectly toasted and the burger perfectly cooked. I also had mint Oreo shake that was very tasty. Would recommend if in the area.

As said in other post “A hidden Gem!” Well take it from me it truly is… Right from requesting a set to paying out tab was truly amazing. I was so impressed when they txted us that our seat was ready, they lead us to our outside seating we requested & they already had the menu & silverware was already for us. Which anymore that’s a rare find. The server was very attentive to our needs & the food was prompt to arrive. The flavor of the food was right on point. Loved how the hash browns did not leaves oily taste in my mouth. Would I recommend??? YES 👍 an amazing stop…

Wow, wow, wow! I love diners and this is the top of the heap! The atmosphere is just right and the service is spectacular. We arrived at lunchtime on Sunday. Luckily there was a 20 minute wait, so we sat at the bar. Good on us. We ordered the hot roast beef sandwich and the beef stroganoff. Both were amazing! Our visit was perfect and we highly recommend sitting at the bar to get the full Phillips Avenue Diner experience. There you can see how capable all of the servers are and how efficient the kitchen is. Can’t wait to get back there.

So I wasn't sure what to make of this place at first. It was like I was transported back in history to my childhood. It has a very retro feel to it. The outside of the building is half shiny metal and the other half is plainly built. Upon entering, it is very tight but they make good use of their limited space. It was clean and nostalgic. There were several things on the menu you would expect to see on the menu of a retro Cafe like Elvis inspired food and drink as well as several that were surprising to me such as Cajun dishes. We sat down and had an old fashioned Carmel apple milkshake and ordered. The promptness of the food was 5*'s. They had it out to us within 10 minutes of ordering and that was extremely impressive to me. The food was great and tasted like something your grandma would make. The only reason I am not giving it a full 5*'s is simply due to the cramped environment of the diner itself.

This is an awesome diner. You can tell it is a favorite amongst locals and travellers alike. The service staff are great and are really friendly, professional, and fast. All of the food was perfectly prepared and very delicious. The restaurant was very clean and easily accessible from city streets. Parking on the weekend was quick and easy unsure how it is during the work week.

What a little gem of a 50s dinner right in the heart of Sioux Falls. Great burgers, creamy shakes served with whip cream and a cherry on top. Breakfast looked amazing and is served all day! If you are craving a great burger, this is the place to be!! Take a stroll around downtown while you wait for your table. Check out the sculptures and wait for them to text your phone!

This place is a setback in time, in the middle of a modern city. An intentional retro feel, with modern touches, including the ability to order online. The outside already hints at a blast from the past, and walking in, confirms it with the old style round padded and colored swivel bar stools, and matching retro decor. Immediately seemed like a popular place, as there was a waiting list for a table, and plenty of people willing to wait. Once we were called up to be seated, we were brought back to a table in the far end. It was a little cooler back there, which I personally like, but some were a little chilled. We started with giving their poutine a try. For those who aren’t familiar with this dish, it’s a plate of French fries, along with cheese curds, and brown gravy, and is much more prevalent in the Northern Regions, especially Canada. It was pretty decent, but it’s also kinda hard to go wrong with making fries and gravy and some cheese. For the meals, we had the hot beef sandwich and also the Jambalaya. Hot beef was pretty good. Again, something that’s hard to get too wrong, as it’s beef, mashed potatoes, bread and gravy, but still, it was a good selection. The jambalaya wasn’t a favorite. It resembled a bit more like dirty rice with some sausage, and then a strong sauce to give it flavor. The sauce was good, but it was very salty, and made the whole dish quite salty. I would opt for a different selection next time. Service was good, and the waitress was helpful and stayed on top of things. Over all, it was a good experience, and would look forward to being in town to try it again, to see how the experience compared to the first.

everything was great! our server, i think his name was jordan, was very nice and attentive. i got the beef stroganoff and my fiancé got the BBQ brisket mac and cheese. we shared some cheese curds and the emmanomnom milkshake, both of which came out insanely quick. the food didn’t take long and it tasted wonderful. such a fun atmosphere and a truly incredible staff.

Had some really good food here! I had the jambalaya and my partner had the chicken strip melt. The jambalaya was flavorful and tasted of spice, but wasn't spicy (great for anyone with a sensitive tummy to spice). My partner said the only thing he'd change about the sandwich would be adding a sauce, but we put some of the cajun creme on his sandwich lol. Hope to be back soon!

  • 4/5 K M. 4 years ago on Google
Pretty good! I had the chicken and waffles which was good but I think I liked the waffle and chicken more by themselves as chicken was kinda peppery. My husband had the Spicy G burger which he really enjoyed. I would try the Thai noodle dish next te if I come again. 1point off for no bathroom tissue in 2 stalls, including mine!

Eat here! You won't regret it! We sat at the counter and saw first hand how clean, quick, efficient and pleasant the staff works!!! The food is of highest quality too: thick bacon, homemade sausage patty, hamburger was spot on!! Etc! If your a sweet tooth, they have several unique hand scooped shakes, banana bread French toast and churro waffles -just to name a few!

Ate Christmas Eve lunch here as they were closing up. We were driving to see family in Ohio for Christmas. This place was definitely a highlight of the trip. Not one complaint about the food. The food was great. Our waitress was a young mother who was an absolute angel. This is our second time eating here and we loved it both times. This restaurant has become a designated waypoint for future trips to see family.

Really good veggie burger! Fries were alright - typical fries but the burgers all looked great coming out of the kitchen and if the beef burgers were half as good as our veggie burger it’s definitely what to get at this diner.

This diner was just the perfect place to grab breakfast on a snowy wintery morning. The staff was kind and helpful with their knowledge of the menu. I think I got what was call the 2+2+2 which included 2 pieces of crunchy bacon, 2 eggs, and 2 pieces of french toast. It was delicious!! I would definitely come back to this place if I am near downtown.

Overpriced and overrated. About what you'd expect out of the camp cook at a deer shack. Good enough to be edible, but not worth the prices they're asking.

The service I experienced was really personable. I even chatted with one of the owners, so that was cool. She's very engaged and really seems to care about protecting guests while providing quality food. They even provided a masks to a guest who came in without one. Safety first!

The Phillips Ave Diner does not disappoint! We had some amazing burgers. The fries were well seasoned as well. I'd also highly recommend the Elvis Shake! It can get busy around dinner time but it's definitely worth the wait. Overall I'd definitely encourage people to hit this Sioux Falls standard!
