Its one of the best place in San Francisco to eat sea foods. Wanted to try the Cioppino ( this dish originated in San Francisco). Loved it and the Oysters . The place is a small one and serves first come first serve basis. Arrive bit early if you are visiting it on weekends or holidays.

First, the oysters. You have to start with them. The anchor special with oysters, prawns, and steam clams is already worth the trip. Then, the cioppino has a depth of flavor in the broth second to no one. All of its ingredients are fresh and delicious. And if you are a garlic bread lover, boy are you in for a treat. Great service too that has to be noted, they all genuinely care that you have a great dining experience there.

Amazing seafood place! Be warned though - it is TINY and first-come, first-serve. You will most likely be waiting, but it is so worth it. The Caesar salad with any topping, the cioppino, the specials of the day - everything is so fresh it makes your mouth water. Service is great - we really loved our waitress Jade. The location is also family-owned and a gem for the neighborhood. Bring your appetite and patience!

An absolutely unforgettable experience. We arrived spontaneously, but almost all the seats inside were taken🤤 and we didn't feel like sitting on the terrace. So, we had to wait for about half an hour, but it was totally worth it! A tiny establishment with an owner who runs between tables to make sure everyone has their food, and the table is ready for the next guest... The unforgettable and delicious soup, freshly baked baguette, and perfectly paired wine! I already want to be a part of this feast again! I'll definitely come back, but next time, I'll reserve a table in advance 😍

A must visit for anyone heading to San Fran. The clam chowder was amazing, they had a great selection of wine and specials on the day as well as Cioppino which was delicious. Jose and Nicole were super accommodating, friendly and helpful when we needed help with the menu and what to order. A definite highlight of our trip. Thanks!

Phenomenal. Phenomenal. P H E N O M E N A L. My wife and I split the Half Anchor Special and the Small Cioppino. It was the perfect amount of food for two. Three kinds of oysters in the Special, six total. Two beautiful perfect prawns. A bucket of gorgeous steamed clams in a lemon garlic thyme concoction. The cioppino was loaded with clams, mussels, crab and some kind of fish filet. All steamed tk perfection in a perfect tomato sauce. Couldn’t be a better meal. There’s something so enjoyable and primal about digging into a bowl of shellfish, cracking shells and making a mess. Come here ASAP.

The menu is simple, and dishes are simpler but the flavors are unparalleled. If you’re in SF and love seafood do not miss Anchor Oysters. After stumbling on this restaurant years ago on business, it’s always worth a visit (and the wait in line, no reservations) when I’m in town. The crab cake is world class and Cioppino leaves nothing to be desired. You’ll drink and eat every last drop.

This is a must stop for me every time I visit San Francisco. The seafood is always tastes fresh. My favorite dish of theirs is the Large cioppino but I also recommend getting an order of the oysters. This place has always been busy so be prepared to wait. It’s also very small with limited outdoor seating so it can get pretty crowded inside.

Absolutely delicious! We went there on the last day of our holiday to eat the famous clam chowder soup and ended up trying the specials of the day too. The food was very tasty and the service was fantastic.

What a pleasure to try out this place - an absolute must. The 1 hour wait in the chilly weather was more than worth it because everything here was beyond delicious. It is run by a delightful group of folks and it was one of the highlights of my SF trip. Their Cioppino is a must try - you can’t go wrong with any size and we loved loved the black mussels. The clam chowder was creamy and delicious. I still vividly remember the taste of the tomatoes from the cioppino, there is a reason why this is their speciality. Definitely will recommend the garlic bread to go with it along side the ciabatta that they already provide. Limited seating inside and outside so prepare to wait. No advanced reservations, get there early and put your name on the whiteboard. I can’t recommend this place enough, if you love seafood, heck if you love oysters, you will love this place too - though we didn’t try them. I usually don’t rave this much about a place but this place exceeded my expectations - best seafood I ever tried.

We looked for a seafood place on maps and had a few options and luckily we chose the right one! 😊 They don't take reservations and it's a popular place so you may have to wait a bit to be seated. We had fresh oysters, steamed clams/mussels, crab cocktail, crab cakes, the shrimp platter and of course the clam chowder. We all had the oysters which were very tasty and fresh. My son got the crab cakes which comes with tarter sauce, roasted potatoes and a side of chowder. They looked good and he said it was excellent 👌. My mom got the wild prawn platter and she loved them! My wife and I shared the steamed shellfish combo and the crab cocktail. The crab meat cocktail was fresh and went well with the cocktail sauce that had a dab of horseradish in it. It's a very nice starter but not a whole meal. The steamed shellfish was exactly what I was hoping for. The sauce was so good that I ordered more bread to keep eating it. 😋 The clam chowder was good but there are other places in the city that I'd rather go to for better clam chowder. The staff/service was great! We got to sit outside with the heaters on which was perfect for a cool evening. Overall a great experience with really good seafood and a welcoming staff. I recommend it for a date or even a family dinner 👍

Anchor Oyster Bar is a top-of-the-line establishment with the freshest seafood and clean, coastal ambiance. Knowing they have a Michelin Star, I had high expectations and they were all met. I ordered 6 oysters, my server was very informed on size and flavor qualities, and the Prawn Caesar Salad. The oysters were extremely fresh and some of the best I’ve had. The prawns were also high quality and the dressing was well done. Croutons were flavorful, served warm. Interior was small but well designed, has a bright beach aesthetic. Prices were high, but I would argue they are worth it. If you love seafood, this is the place to visit.

This place is iconic in the Castro and it won't disappoint. The food was great and the service too, we went for the classic Cioppino which was excellent and oysters. Highly recommend it!

Overall taste and service was nice. Oyster was very fresh and all is from west coast ocean so it is different from east coast oysters. Steamed clams are feels like soup it was nice and good match with oyster shooter. Crab cake comes with two sauces and well matched. but waiting time was too long , and they can make some tech tools to consider people who stay outside so long, it's worth too wait but these days weather in bay area was so cold.... but love this place!

The food here was fantastic and it's worth the 30 to 45 minutes wait. The ciopinno was heavenly and is not something you should miss. We also ordered fresh Oysters that were indeed very fresh and tasted delicious. The bread served was cold though and thought it would have been good if they could have serve warmer bread.

This was our first time visiting the restaurant as well as having cioppino and we loved both! We really didn’t know what to expect when it came to the flavor profile of cioppino but we were blown away! Highly recommend it considering its packed with delicious and fresh seafood. The oyster platter was also fantastic.

I loved this place! Super busy and delicious food. The staff here was amazing and super sweet. They went above and beyond to make sure we were being accommodated. I got the crab cakes entree and my husband got the cioppino. The food portions are great and you will not leave here feeling unfulfilled. We are most definitely planning to return here for more.

Amazing seafood, great people and service. We had the stew and it was loaded with Alaskan cod, gulf shrimp, and Dungeness crab. So happy to have stopped in.
