What a great area. Lots of walks and beautiful places to visit and see. Roads are narrow and tight and can be really busy. Sometimes best to travel by bus. Recommend buying walking guides with walk ratings so you don't try something beyond your ability.

The nicest region in the UK I've been to. If you're a nature lover, hiker/walker, camper or water sports lover, this is the place for you to go. You can be as close to the next soul or as remote from everything - you can find that in the lake District. Mountains, hills, sweeping Valleys and lakes, of course...all set in a vast, beautiful national park. Awesome for any age and your pet will be happy too! Will definitely be back. Very highly recommended.

One of the most beautiful places in England! Any season any weather! (Ok maybe a little less perfect when it's raining round the clock)

One of my favourite places in the world. Came here first when I was only 7years old and have been here many times since as the beautiful scenery is always something I can't get enough of. Scarfel Pike is a must at least once in your life one of the more enjoyable mountain treks I've been on.

Can't really put into words how beautiful the Lake District is, all I can really say is the photos will never do it justice and is somewhere you most definitely need to visit if you can! Absolutely breathtaking. Parking can be found in free areas or in priced car parks (I used both as hopped around areas a little bit). Definitely take clothes for all weathers as you can be warm, dry, wet, cold all within a matter of minutes!

If you are a nature lover, it’s beautiful place to explore. You can have steam train trip. Train is very clean with comfy seats. All the seats are with tables in the train. On the other side when you travel by train there is play area for kids and woodland path for beautiful view. You can have small boat trip or big ferry trip. Beautiful views and scenery. There is fell foot where you can by car it only takes 7 mins. There is national trust car park. You can play family games or do picnic. There are toilets and plenty of parking on both sides.

It is a magic place, where you really feel inside an enchanted tale. Wherever you go, you have incredible views, surrounded by garnished landscapes with incredible lakes and many cute animals that make it even more beautiful. It is a very family oriented destination and highly recommended to go with children as a weekend getaway.

We visited over the school holidays. The trip there was smooth and scenic. Once we arrived I was blown away by how beautiful this area is. Such an amazing sight. The lake was just stunning and the overall atmosphere was busy and exciting. A lot of boat tours to choose from. We chose the 90min tour which took us up the lake. The kids loved it and I wanted it to last forever. We ate yummy fish and chips. Definitely worth the visit. Next time I plan to stay over night so to take in more of the parks. Excellent adventure.

Beautiful. Amazing. The views! Would definitely go again. Just make sure you get fuel before you go as its pricey from tourism. Fairly busy in places and a lovely drive to many attractions and hiking trails

What's not to like......the views are fantastic. People are friendly and there are lots of towns and villages to visit. Whether you want a quiet holiday, walking and climbing, playing around on the water or enjoying a night out. It's all there and more, I have been visiting for years and never fail to find something different to see or do.

The Lake District is a beautiful place with lots to do. The only down side is it can rain a lot but without the rain there would be no lakes so just take a waterproof jacket. In my opinion when the weather is good it is one of the best places in the UK. It can get busy at time but get of the beaten track and it's fantastic. I would definitely recommend the Lake District.Have to be there to experience the experience. No words can describe the feeling or the spectacular scenic views upon the hills. Not so hard and bad as some describe it. Its only because they never expected the level of experience to be so intensive as it does just pay off just the view you see and capture with your eyes. Pictures Dont do justice. thank you

If there's one bit of advice I could give when visiting the lake district is, go out of season. The Lakes are gorgeous all year round. From June to September the Lakes can get so busy the fun starts to go out of it. Try visiting in March or April (avoid the Easter holidays though) or October and November. The hotels are cheaper, you don't have to book tables in restaurants (on the whole) and the paths don't resemble a queue at a vaccination centre, and you can find a parking space!!. Sure the weather can be unfavourable, but it can in July and August too. If walking is your thing, buy some thermals and waterproofs, check the forecast, pack a flask and high protein food, change your phone (you want get reception anyway but it's the done thing 😁) and off you go. The pics attached were all taken between September and December. Enjoy.

Excellent place The views are breathtaking great no phone signal so no one can disturb the peace. (In some places anyway) Some roads where badly maintained and the lack of rubbish bins slight off putting (Having bins Would MAYBE stop inconsiderate people from leaving litter and dog waste ) We took our rubbish with us ... But overall is a great place to visit Have been going up the for years and will continue to do so ........

If you've never been before you won't be disappointed, wide open vista's, mountains and lakes. Just remember the lakes are the result of rain, come prepared! Everywhere dog friendly as are most of the pubs, hard to avoid other ramblers as the area is so popular.

Another great stay at Another Place. Beautiful location with opulent surroundings with impeccable service. Food is lovely in both restaurants with the new glasshouse (fresh pizza) as a welcomed extra. Dogs are welcome here. Lovely place to wind down and switch off.

This was my first time visiting the lake District and it didn't disappoint! Especially coming from London, this whole area is spectacular! You can feel the difference in terms of peace and quiet and the fresh air quality. The views are amazing and there is so much to see that it's worth visiting multiple times during different seasons to truly get a full idea of what this place has to offer.

I've had such a great time here, but came during stormy weather. I'd recommend lots of changes of clothes and as much water resistant items as possible for your hikes. We've seen a lot of dogs everywhere with dog friendly pubs and cafes spotted here and there. We've been getting around with our personal car. It's done well with the storms, and puddles/floods (VW salon). Taxis are available till 2am to transport you between towns, and buses are running often. There are no shortage of restaurants and shops. There are MANY walks and hikes available for people to try at all levels. Plus, a lot of the places will have a designated parking spot (sometimes free or up to £4 for a few hours) In terms of corona virus, all the properties including boats sanitise and follow guidelines. I've found that it's the people coming to visit here that are nonchalant. They don't care about the safety of themselves and most definitely not others. For anyone of colour coming up here. I've found everyone who lives and works here to be very friendly and have not faced any racial discrimination. (Just the occasional stare for existing from tourists not from the Lake District)

Very friendly owner/staff, haven't played for a long time so I just needed a 9 hole to get back into golf. This was just the place, nice fairways and excellent greens. The cost was very reasonable ,just have to be aware of the road to the left teeing off number 9. All in all well worth the visit and as Arnie says "I'll be back"

What more can be said about this absolutely stunning place. It has outstanding beauty, fantastic walks, diverse wildlife and great views the higher up you go, as long as the weather doesn't get in the way! The wet weather should never put a person off, but when the sun is out it just makes The Lake District even better.

The lake district is stunning at any time of the year and any weather.. however if you are lucky enough for the stars to align to get sunny skies then there are few places better. A silly amount of walks on offer with the most serene views. You can venture on paths where you will see little to no one or go on one of the more well known routes / activities. The choice is yours!

This place is a must visit for a true nature lover. There are so many places to see that they cannot be covered in a day or two. If you plan your journey ahead and make a route of your pass, you might visit three to four places a day with ease. These includes waterfalls, rivers, mountains, open park area etc. Still you will find some places in between which you might have missed in your planning. so you will have to give extra time to it if you want to explore completely. I went there few times. Last tour I had there was in my seven seater with quite open space to sleep. I avoid paying hotels and rest rooms, just stop when you are tired or at nightfall. Sleep in yoir car and carry on the next day. Luckily I had my tea pot and assential accessories along. If you planning for few days tour then make sure to keep an eye on fuel tank as uphills consume a lot of fuel. For toilets, please use Asda, Mcdonalds etc. Don’t rush for picnic spots to be used as toilets. There was this nice coffee shop which I cannot remember the name. They served gud coffee. They also had facility of toilet.

Absolute peach of a place for the outdoors and local cafes / country pubs. Plenty to do, don't fall into the trap of thinking it's like a city, some places are remote and that's the beauty about the place, yes it can be cold, yes it can be wet, very wet but this isn't Benidorm 🫣

Nestled in the embrace of nature's poetry, the Lake District National Park is a dreamy sanctuary that beckons with its ethereal beauty. Majestic mountains dance with the sky, reflecting their silhouettes upon the serene lakes that cradle tales of ancient wanderers. Each step through the fells and secret walks feels like a dance with the fairies, as wildflowers whisper secrets of a bygone era. The adventurous spirit awakens on the winding trails that lead to breathtaking vistas, where the landscape becomes a canvas painted with hues of emerald and azure. Paddle boarding or kyaking on the tranquil lakes feels like gliding through a dream, surrounded by mist-kissed mountains and the gentle lullaby of water meeting shore. Embracing the spirit of exploration, the Lake District unveils hidden gems like mystical waterfalls and ancient ruins, inviting the intrepid traveller to unravel the mysteries woven into the fabric of this enchanting realm. Cosy villages nestled between hills whisper tales of literary legends, adding a touch of magic to the journey. And a cheeky pint here and there. In the twilight, the stars unfold their celestial tapestry, casting a spell that transforms the Lake District into a celestial dreamscape. Whether scaling heights or drifting on the mirrored waters, this haven of dreams and adventure in the Lake District National Park is an ode to the wanderer's soul, inviting you to immerse yourself in the timeless allure of nature's masterpiece.

Had a fabulous weekend at the Lake District, culminating in a day at Muncaster Castle, Gardens and Hawk and Owl centre. A truly beautiful place, very calm and serene. The birds of prey display was fantastic, very spectacular and the castle itself is quite stunning, set against the fells, with Scafell pike, the tallest mountain in England in the background, it is a wonderful experience. Highly recommended, add a visit to the Lake District to your bucket list, if you have not been there already.

Oh My God... I never tought to find such beauty in England... I am a mountain person and I will always be, this place is out of this world, amazing and beautiful scenery, glorious climbs, fairy tale walks and paths. Everything is out of this world, please come, please visit, please soread the world about this amazing place. But, as there is always a but to it, prepare tour wallet as everything is OVERPRICED, annoyingly over priced, parking, food, hotels, everything and everyone wants to rip you off. Hotels, restaurants, parking, atractions, everything costs silly money. I paid for 3 nights in a very over rated mediocre towards poor hotel as much as I paid for 3 night 4 star, 4 person, all inclusive trip to Spain.

(Translated by Google) I was in the Lake District, and specifically in Ambleside, three years ago and it was love at first sight. I went back the following year while this year I had to give up for Covid. It is a beautiful, magical place that conquers you with its suggestive lakes, its green valleys populated by sheep and majestic trees, its mountains often cloaked in clouds, its thundering waterfalls, the country lanes wrapped in hedges, the its always friendly people, its dreamy atmosphere, its enchanted paths through pristine forests, the villages on the slopes of gentle hills, the bucolic and romantic landscapes, the limpid waterways and the vast grassy expanses. I've traveled half of Europe since I was a boy, but no other place is more dear to me than Lakeland. I highly recommend to those who want to enjoy all the naturalistic beauties of the area and preserve the landscape and the healthy air intact to use the frequent and punctual buses of the Stagecoach company for travel, perhaps buying from the bus driver (attention, have hand the exact cash because it does not give change) like myself the North West 7 day Megarider Gold, a card that, at the price of 29 pounds, allows unlimited travel for a week in the Lake District and beyond (Original) Sono stato nel Lake District, e precisamente ad Ambleside, tre anni fa ed è stato amore a prima vista.

This is a great challenging course. Only one 4par hole so low handicap players won’t use their drivers/Woods much. However the fairways are narrow and greens difficult. It really encourages accurate play. The course is extremely well kept, the grounds men get 10/10. The matting on the tees is quirky and difficult sometimes to get your tee to stay put. Your tee often bounces behind you after a good drive. The practice areas are very good and the driving range is as expected. The cafe is the best I’ve seen at a golf course. I want to join and play more regularly.

This 9 hole course will take some beating, the course is pristine, and a really good course to better your short game. The professionals at the academy are just that, they are very helpful and have a passion to introduce young people into this fantastic game. The driving range has plenty of undercover bays which is great in bad weather. I have been coming here for a couple of years, and am going to miss it, as I am shortly moving away from the area. Which is one reason why I felt it right to leave a review. No matter what level of golf you may be at I would definitely recommend a visit to this academy.

Staying here for New Year and it is a superb park. The place is immaculate, the lodge is a great size for six. The hot tub is one of the most comfortable and biggest we've had. The service from all staff is exceptional. Food in the Copper Fells restaurant is outstanding with friendly, efficient, professional service and high standards. The shop on site has basics you would need should you run out. Only improvement would be to bin and replace the bedroom furniture, it let the lodge down which was otherwise spotless in lodge 106.

Probably the best place in England for lakes and mountains, which for me means the best natural space in England. Definitely some busy tourist spots, as is expected with a country with not much natural space left compared to the amount of people crammed in, but if you go a little out the way the change is drastic. Would recommend going for a long stay in the off season when the weather is a bit milder to avoid the crowds, but we went end of August and it wasn't that bad at all. Shame about the lack of wildlife but we have a long way to go with that I think, would be nice to see more about conservation/reintroducing efforts in the area.

Wonderful and tranquil! On a clear day, you can easily spot the rolling hills and snow capped mountain peaks in the distance. After a rainy day, the little streams down the mountains become gushing little waterfalls. Breathtaking natural beauty that photos cannot capture!

Great view of the mountains and the lake, a few waterfalls as well in the area. Tried a bit of the hike trail and make sure your wearing the right footwear especially if the weather is wet/rainy. My friends and I were just wearing trainers and they were nit the most ideal, we still managed to climb to the top of the hill by Moss Fall Force even with the windy weather. The place is very dog friendly including cafes and the inn's. You can swim in the lake as well.

Probably one of the most beautiful natural areas in Great Britain. The diversity of scenery and landscape is stunning together with so many lakes. From hiking to boat ride you literally can do some many activities in this area. I would suggest the best way to explore this place to is full potential is to expend at least 5 days to a week in Lake District 💪🏾💚

My husband and I just got back from a trip to the UK and of all the places we went, I can't decide the Lake District and Peak District are tied for my favorite. I desperately wish we had spent more than one night in Windemere let alone seen the rest of the area! It was absolutely breathtaking. We took a lake cruise around the islands and then hiked in the hills beyond our hotel and took in amazing views. I definitely can't wait to one day come back!

Sometimes all we need is a good time away from the busy hustle bustles of city life and time to let the fresh cold air gush your hair and let the inner self speak to you and calm down at the behest of Mother Nature! This national park is one such place that liberates your rather tired soul and sets it free to the mountains and flowing waters and let’s it enjoy what it was meant to. A beautiful country side place with amazing architecture , beautiful houses , warm people and steep treks to keep you alive!

Please stop and read this The Lake District honestly has been one of my favourite holidays of my life. Everyone is so friendly and nice and it is very easy to make new friends. On Lake Windemere, my family and I met these other two families who were jumping off a jetty. We spent two hours there, jumping off and also trying to climb back onto the slippery wood, much harder than it looks!!!! I am only a 13 year old girl but to all the teenage girls out there, I believe that if you love exploring and love the water, than the Lake District is for you!! Thanks for the people who have read all of this :)

Fabulous lake been coming to all the lakes for 27 years . Ullswater is a favourite great for kayak and walks into pooley bridge for a meal or few drinks in the lakeside bars or pick up essentials for your bbq back at camp. Beautiful mountain walks as all the lakes.

You can tell why this is a UNESCO World Heritage site -truly spectacular countryside and fabulous lakes. Lots of things to do - boat trips, kayaking, paddle boarding and swimming in the lakes. Lots of walks, lovely country pubs, picturesque villages. Well worth a visit. 2020 has seen lots of people flood into the Lake District for their "staycation" and are treating it like Glastonbury camping where they are not supposed to, leaving rubbish strewn around, lighting fires and playing loud music. Let's hope these people can get back to Benidorm soon - as the locals do not want them here and it spoils it for those of us who can appreciate its beauty.

Beautiful. Walking great but need walking boots /shoes as can get boggy in places after it's rained. Don't leave home without a waterproof jacket... August now and some of the hottest weather we've had but also a lot of thunderstorms.

  • 5/5 Ash C. 3 years ago on Google
The only things that spoil it are the masses of visitors who are drawn by the locals who think it's exclusively theirs to exploit with over farming and over tourism.

Lots of sheep for kids to see. Very picturesque location with mountain backgrounds and many locations with running water (lakes, streams etc.). Bring your own food and drinks as you'll need it during a hike. Babies and toddlers can be carried on a sling (floor looked a bit stony for a buggy).

Love this location and landscapes - there's so much to see with plenty of places to walk and canoe. We've canoed on Derwent Water a number of times - plenty of Islands to drop off onto - We've once taken a picnic on St Herbert's Island. The walk up to Catbells has fantastic views. A bit of a steep scramble towards the top, but well within the reach of most people to achieve. Coniston and Peel Island are so picturesque. Peel Island is famed for being known as Wild Cat Island in the book Swallows and Amazons, by Arthur Ransome. Look out for the hidden harbour to land. We also explored Windermere and Belle Island from the West shore NT car parks. Lovely.

Lake district is an amazing, beautiful and peaceful place to visit. We've come here during December and even though it was getting dark earlier than usual, it was not as rainy and cold as we thought. Photos can never do this place justice. You cannot appreciate the scale and beauty of this place unless to visit it for yourself. The only thing that lets it down are the narrow roads which wouldn't even be a problem if it weren't for people who seem to feel they own the road and give no room for other drivers.

So much awesome scenery here. Best place in England to go hiking and lots of mountains to choose from. Most tourists head for Scafell or Helvellyn but take a look at some of the other mountains too. Most of the villages have nice gift shops and tea rooms. Lots of campsites and b&b and cottage rentals to stay at.

Buttermere is gorgeous 7 k walk around the lake flat and good for kids and older walkers, mum and dad are in there 80s, ice cream half way 😆 views are well go see you will not be disappointed 😀. Road in and parking well it's single track with passing there is a bus, I couldn't find the national trust parking so between £5 to £10 depending on car park your in or free if you're up for side of the road and a good walk 😆 great pub for lunch recommend 👍

Glorious area of North West England if you like lakes and mountains. No wonder famous poets lived here and composed immortal verses about its beauty. Ok so today was my first attempt at "getting back into it" after having a year off due to various unexpected operations and basically being in and out of hospital, BUT, at last I'm pain free (womb, spleen and a couple vertebrae free too 😳) and I'm good finally to go. So here I am . Did not plan on going here today but had a good walk around duddon bridge etc and surrounding area, and although cold and all the ground is between brown and golden in colour, I bet by summer it will be glorious. The only problem being when summer comes so do the crowds. I half ventured up worm cragg (don't quote me on that name) before I finally admitted to myself I was not prepared for a climb and my shoes were a good reminder of that, so have decided to go again better prepared and from there go over and down to Stanley Ghyll force waterfall. As always I hope you join me in hopefully looking at some decent photos I will try to take. I'm kind of armed this year as I've bought myself a new Olympus camera finally so now I feel like a boss 🤣. Stay safe👍

Visited Ambleside, Rydal Caves and Blea Tarn among other places. All walks well signposted and the villages were tidy and welcoming. Only downfall is the high price of parking. A winter discount would be greatly appreciated.

My favourite area of England and we visit at least once every year So any beautiful and mostly tranquil areas, apart from the tourist areas around the biggest lakes. Be prepared for the changing weather - " There's no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing ". Wastwater is remote and spectacular, but it's quite a long slow journey from the main tourist towns. I am still amazed by the number of Southerners who have never visited. They don't know what they are missing.

Nice to visit with a raft/dinghy as water is very calm. The children loved it. Not good if you haven't got the weather. Cafe a tad expensive and toilets were out of order. But we had a fab day in the sun with our packed lunch and picnic blankets 😍

An incredible place in which every corner presents you with a new landscape and a stunning escape from reality and hectic life. Really push to get out of the towns and into the quiet valleys and high up on the fells.

Love visiting the Lake District but the weather is not always kind to us, but on our last visit it was much better which allowed us to enjoy our stay. We took out little dog with us this time and to be honest, if you don't have a dog then you are the odd one out. The Lakes are a very dog friendly place to visit. There's lots to do and many places to eat or just to get a coffee. My only gripe is that the public toilets can be wrather expensive , you need a debit card to pay.

Great cycling experience riding the route of the Fred Whitton Challenge. The passes are tough and the views are stunning. Road surfaces are mixed and some are very potholed though. Traffic can be very busy and cars often park in the road, not to the side.
