My gall bladder was removed in July after a 2 year wait. The team at St Albans are fantastic. Along with giving good quality professional care they also empathic and caring which is immeasurable. They answer any query and always put the patient first at despite the obvious post covid pressures within the NHS Thank you all so much.

Leave yourself a good half hour extra if you want to get to your appointment on time. The parking was attrocious as you need to download an app and register which I hate. I'm only going to use it once but yet I have to surrender my personal information and bank card. I'd take pound coins and some change as the machine doesn't accept cards or notes, rather than download the app. The hospital is a maze. Poor signage and looks old and in need of modernising. Prepare yourself for another 15 minutes of walking around trying to find your department. Terrible experience.

Gotta take my anger out somewhere, I think Google is the only place. We went to see an urgent care specialist for my 4 year old daughter. She had 38,6Β° the night before and had been coughing four 2 months. The antibiotics didn't help and she kept getting worse with cough and everything. The verdict was that from the sound her lungs are fine and she is looking ok, so go home. In my home country that would be a full examination including blood tests, x-ray, lung function test, prescribing some proper anti-viral treatment. In this hospital was just the opposite, I guess they want to keep the legacy of medieval times where no drugs existed. Such a shame and total embarrassment of core principles of medical help.

I've just had my gallbladder removed in day surgery. All the nurses, doctors, anaesthetist and staff were absolutely wonderful. They were so kind and caring. Explained the procedure to me and looked after me post-op so well. Thank you all so much.

I attended today for a CT scan and the team that helped me was absolutely wonderful, they made me feel really at ease despite my phobias and were super understanding and relaxed even though my veins were playing hard to get for the cannula. Thank you so much!

Recently tried to call the outpatient department. I made the call at 3:30 pm and I was 13th in the queue. Waited till 4:50 and I finally was 1st in the queue. At 17:02 I got cut of because there were no agents available. It took 1 hour and 40 min to deal with 12 patients and all that time I waited was wasted . Who was dealing with those calls ??? Will never find out but for the love of humanity do something about it.

Great service from the Blood Clinic. Staff efficient and friendly. Situated outside of town. Take the 302 Arriva bus to Hemel or 653 UNO bus to Newgreens / Bus stop 11 and 12 from St Peters Street

I was very nervous yesterday before my procedure, but all the staff were wonderful, I felt cared for and confident I was in the right hands. From start to finish was kept informed about what would be happening. I personally was over joyed with my experience of the whole system. Thank you team you made a worried lady very happy. I appreciate you all.

Had been dreading my hip replacement op. but from the minute I arrived the staff were so lovely, they made me feel totally relaxed about it. Such a great atmosphere in the ward and the food was delicious. Altogether a very pleasant experience with not a single fault . A big thankyou from me.

Awful attitude to pregnant women and children. I met midwife Penny and her manager in the Blood test clinic and they showed lack of empathy, understanding and normal attitude! So awful that such people work in clinics!

Non clinic staff are terrible, especially x-ray department perhaps even dangerous. Sending people away on their own power trip despite having appointments. The worst of the nhs

I went to the Opthalmology department here and I have to say they are outstanding! The nurses of all levels are amazing in this department. It's not often you leave a hospital appointment smiling because the staff are so compassionate and the two sisters (nurses)who I saw for my pre op assesment had so much empathy it was unreal. Such a fantastic bunch of health professionals on this level it's amazing.

The actual clinical staff were excellent, The Non-Clinical reception staff were woeful , Send from one to the other until someone not on a reception desk was able to advise where to actually go. Parking is very limited so advise getting here well ahead of any appointment if you can as you may have to wait or circle around to get parked. Spaces also very small.

First time in hospital and I was looked after so fantastically well; amazing people work here. From the cleaners to the surgeons and everyone inbetween. A special thank you to everyone on the Beckett Ward for making my stay as comfortable as possible - they’re a kind and very caring team.

It's a joke, not a hospital, even blood tests can't be done professionally by disinfecting skin before the puncture. Basic hygiene by WHO...

I have had to visit St Albans hospital several times in the last few years and recently the fracture clinic So impressed by the cleanliness, kindness and efficiency of the staff It is also such a warm friendly place with its little cafe and coffee shop Yes staff are very busy and sometimes patients must wait but I really feel valued as a patient and that staff do their best to give everyone time. Thank you St Albans hospital!

The hospital and staff are 5/5 however the switchboard, they need to learn some manners! They control both hemel and st albans switch board. its one switch board but they have two different numbers. I called them both and the same person answered, she is rude, poor manners. I wish I got her name and details. Please re-train the moody woman on the switchboard.

Giving this hospital one star for one reason, certain Doctors are still asking you to keep pulling them pointless, ridiculous masks on and off like some childish game. Staff pulling them up n down so they can speak and understand each other,it's like a comedy farce. But I also worry that so called educated people are pushing this masquerade then may operate on me,it's scary!

Very good hospital. Having had issues with numb legs and back pain I was referred to St Albans City Hospital and was diagnosed with severe spinal stenosis and Spondylolisthesis I was seen quickly by Dr Bhalaji and team and put forward for surgery. The surgery wait time was very short and I have been given exceptional care by Dr Bhalaji and the orthopaedics team at St Albans City Hospital. I couldn’t ask for a more caring team and the information I was given regarding my condition and the benefits and risks of surgery were explained clearly and if I had any questions these were answered in a timely manner and in a supportive friendly way. Very happy

No clinical or appointment letters or any form of notification received with regards to new appointments or clinical update for the fracture clinic and X-ray (told CT scan booked for the 17Jun2023 but unable to confirm location or time when called to check wc 05Jun2023). Having to chase for this info by phone of which isn't easy (can't get through). This must lead to a high number missed appointments, simple due to missed notification of them. The staff in all associated departments are great, but they must have a huge workload thanks to the mismanagement and lack of funding from our governments over the last 30+ year, with the ever increasing population count and nothing inplace to improve the service to be able to cope with the increased population. It's not only the NHS but all services, utilities and infrastructure.

Amazing pathogens dept. 10 people ahead of me and I was out in under 9 minutes. They were so efficient and it was very easy. Hope the NHS funds their pay better to reflect their hard work!

Just wanted to say a huge "thank you" to the young lady at Hemel Hempstead ultrasound scan today at 3.10pm.. a really charming person. A real credit to the NHS. Great talker too! Much appreciated..Victor.

Jackie and Lin from Admissions couldn't have been more helpful and kind.I think they should be training the staff in how to deal with people including their bosses. It 's time people were held accountable in the NHS and realised they are not Gods and they are paid good money to look after people which doesn't always seem to be the case of late. More people like Jackie and Lin are needed in these jobs if the NHS is to continue.

Like that it's small enough to be local and friendly. Yet big enough to deal with matters. The Blood test area ebbs and flows and can take between 20-40mins depending on time of day. But they are all friendly and pretty quick! The cafe is reasonably priced too.

I went to have my appointment at Albans Hospital ENT. I was seen by Dr Patel and his team. It was such an honour to be seen by a wonderful team, polite, warm, caring, approachable, supportive, its like caring for one of their own family...and this is from beginning to the end they show such excellent service....Dr Patel thank you for such service and for seeing me, that I was able to experience you and your team care. God bless you all, may he continue giving you the strength and knowledge to deliver unto others. Thank you all.

Considering I'm normally an anxious person, I felt surprisingly calm! I was so well looked after for my surgical proceedure (Runcie ward) staff were absoloutley amazing! from the experience on the ward- through to theatre then recovery. Staff were so polite and everything just felt so relaxed and well managed. Thank you!

Been there for a colposcopy. The nurses were nice enough, the room was dreadfully small and claustrophobic. The doctor rushed me, mumbled answers to my questions or just wouldn't respond. I haven't been told how to properly care for myself after the small procedure either, so had to research it myself. I left pretty traumatized and cried the whole day. I'd give it a 2 star just for the nurses.

  • 5/5 Aisha K. 2 years ago on Google
I had an operation yesterday in the day surgery unit. All the nurses and doctors were great I really can not complaint at all. I had to wait so many hours for my surgery but it did worth it. The nurses looked after me really well and so far I feel okay after anaesthetic. They gave me a lot's of medicines to take them home which still so weird for me coz in my country they just give you prescription and they don't care if you are unable to go to the pharmacy to get them. So many people say bad things about NHS in the UK and I really don't understand why. That's a fact that there are very terrible hospitals but not all of them are like that. My experience is that the nurses and doctors are really doing their best may God bless them all.

The urgent care hub!!! Do we need to keep waiting hours and hours while you’re sitting and chitchatting??? If yes, why did you gave us an appointment too early?? It is not crowded at all but we are still waiting…

Drove an elderly friend for appt. Parking Β£5 for 2 hours. Outrageous. Cafe staff was sat at a table as if she was a visitor looking at mobile. I wandered about looking for someone to serve me. When I asked if cafe was open she said yes and to my surprise went behind the counter. Even after she served me was on her phone constantly.
