We have used Freed Veterinary Clinic for both of our dogs for the past13 years. Our oldest dog (13 years old) was previously diagnosed by Dr. Kutzer with kidney failure and has recently become lethargic, has stopped eating, and has been sick and unhappy despite following treatment instructions (we've been following a special diet for several years). Today (7/7) I called to set up an appointment for some guidance as it feels like we will more than likely be making end of life decisions. I was told they are fully booked until July 24th and the vet wouldn't be able to see our dog until that time....but if I was willing to pay an extra $100, I could put my name on an emergency list to possibly be seen sooner. Really? I'm shocked the office is not able to squeeze in an appointment for a family who has been bringing their family pets to the practice for 13 years. At a time when direction, caring, compassion, and understanding are needed, we get treated like an inconvenience and an opportunity for more money. Not cool! I write this review still in a state of shock and have already found a new vet for this potentially dying family member. When you look at veterinarian reviews in Hampton you can trust there is a reason that freed veterinary clinic's reviews are the worst. Never again will I sacrifice my pets needs for the convenience of a practice being close to my home.

Somehow my 2 dogs who had been A+ healthy for years, had very expensive ailments when I started going to this place. Then I tried to take in a stool sample multiple times. I was told I could bring it "anytime." So I tried to bring it on a Tuesday. But oh! There is no one there on a Tuesday, only receptionists. So I tried again today. They take a 2 hour lunch break from 12 - 2pm, everyday. Must be nice. It isn't nice for those of us who can't visit for these sorts of things except on a lunch break. Then she tells me they only accept it if it is 2 hours old! I called my old vet in another city to confirm, and yes it is still common practice to refrigerate it if you can't get into the clinic that day. It seems that it is more important to Freed Vet Clinic to make life fun, easy, and convenient for themselves but couldn't care less about their customers. I'll find a new vet, thanks. Bye.

First off, I would like to say my familyā€™s dog was boarded several times at this facility (which were great experiences) before this most recently, scary visit. Our dog was taken care of by this facility while my family and I had to go to Alabama a few weeks back. When we returned, my husband picked him up and for the first 24 hours of being home, he had diarrhea which is typical for him (he gets nervous when we leave town). When it did not subsided, we started to become concerned and became extremely concerned when we noticed his stool also started to contain blood. I didnā€™t unpack all of his belongings when he got home (too consumed with unpacking our baby girls belongings from the road trip) so nothing gave me an indication that this might be Freedā€™s fault. To my surprise, as I unpacked our dogs belongings, I realized the FULL jar of peanut butter I left with the facility was GONE. In Freedā€™s defense, myself and Amanda at the front desk were very thorough with writing down all of the info needed, but thinking back, I never gave them info on how much peanut butter to give him in his kong. ANYONE who knows and loves dogs should have the common sense that a 16oz jar of peanut butter should not be consumed in its entirety in a 4 day span. I was shocked when I realized Freed gave my boy 16oz of peanut butter in a 4 day span. And it was then clear to me that this issue was 100% caused by Freedā€™s clinic. I called his vet and a vet tech friend of mine and both said put him on a rice and pumpkin diet, but if it doesnā€™t clear up in 24 hours, take him straight to the vet. Well he wouldnā€™t eat any of it. His poop went from diarrhea to blood in his diarrhea to straight BLOOD in a 3 day span. I took him to the vet and they stated this issue was 100% caused by Freed giving him an entire jar of peanut butter. Peanut butter in small amounts does not hurt dogs but when a full jar is consumed, the fat content can mess with their systems. Our vet was very surprised he didnā€™t end up with pancreatitis. I proceeded to call Freed to explain to them what happened and asked for them to either refund us the money we paid for boarding him or refund us his vet bill since this was their fault. The manager, Susan, stated she would discuss this issue with the owner and she would call be back with what they decide to do. I received a voicemail today that stated they would credit 10% of my dogs visit to his account so we can use it the next time he stays there. I made it very clear with Susan in the initial phone call that he would not be returning to their facility since this happened. Also, 10% of the bill is equal to $11. 11. dollars. Thatā€™s it. Thatā€™s how much they do not care about my boy. I called the facility back and spoke with Susan and stated that was NOT good enough for what we went through. I said itā€™s disgusting that $11 is all my pup is worth and their facility obviously does not care about animals that come to their facility. I would have felt better them saying they wouldnā€™t reimbursement us at all than receive a slap in the face of 11 bucks. I was disgusted. I proceeded to tell Susan all we want is a reimbursement and an apology (which I had not even received yet). She did give us an apology and said sorry we donā€™t agree with what happened. I became VERY annoyed when she proceeded to say the 2 staff members in the back said the jar was full when we dropped him off and it wasnā€™t empty when we picked him up AND that Amanda stated she tried to get info from me THREE TIMES and I wouldn't give it to her. I became LIVID!! Flat out lies. The manager just lied to me. Really? They donā€™t want to own up to their mistakes and just apologize and reimburse us? But now LYING?! Why wouldnā€™t I want to give them all of the info needed? The ā€œ3 timesā€ shocked me. And honestly, I wouldnā€™t be surprised if Susan came up with that on her own. Amanda was WONDERFUL when I dropped him off and although I do not know her at all, I canā€™t see her lying about something like that. Susan is rude and disrespectful and should not be the authority figure here at Freed.

Dr. Cain is wonderful. My 13 yr. old girl came in because she was having a hard time getting up. She drew blood and checked her for arthritis. A big snow storm came in that night so the labs coming back were delayed. Dr. Cain called us twice at home the day after the storm checking on our dog! I was totally impressed that she did that! As soon as she got the labs, she personally called us to tell us our baby needed surgery for a severe infection. She took wonderful care of her and showed genuine concern. The 2 women at the front desk were very personable. I read the past reviews and maybe these women are different because they were very kind and efficient in taking care of discharging our dog and general conversation. We never had to wait.

This place is the best ever. My dog wasn't getting enough exercise and became destructive at home. I looked at a few places and saw that Freed had been rated high for doggy daycare. I took my dog here 3 days a week now. She loves it. She hasn't chewed anything up yet since. Dr.McSheehy has also done an excellent job treating her for skin conditions and is always willing to take the extra time to research it and make sure my Pumpkin gets the best care. I highly recommend this clinic for its clinic and daycare services.

The veterinarians on staff spend quality time with you discussing all aspects of your dog's health. I just became the proud owner of a cute German Shepherd puppy named Max, and I'm impressed by the care they've provided. The staff is friendly and the "live in" kitty adds a special touch to the office. I highly recommend this veterinary clinic

We have trusted Freed with our pets for many years They have always been exceptional. Both Dr. FREED AND Dr. KUTZER are like family. The staff has given our four legged family members a lot of love and we appreciate that. They are all about building relationships We have been going to them since 1996. They take fantastic care of our Service Animals.

Best kennel experience thus far in Hampton Roads. The staff made it very easy for me to leave my dog. The check in process was seamless and they gave my pup lots of love during her stay. I also like that Freed provides solo play time outside.

My dogs, Oregano and The Blab, mean the world to me, and I couldnā€™t be happier with the quality of care they receive at Freed. Dr. Kutzer listens to my concerns, discusses treatment options and potential outcomes, and always takes the time to explain procedures and answer questions. Dr. Kutzer has improved my senior dogā€™s quality of life, and is working to resolve my younger dogā€™s health issues (and wow, does he have issuesā€¦). We spend a lot of time at Freed, and I have never once felt like I was being ā€œupsoldā€ ā€“ to the contrary, Dr. Kutzer and her team are quick to suggest less expensive, or even cost-free, options. I recently boarded Oregano & The Blab at Freed; I couldnā€™t believe how terrific they looked when I picked them up! In the past, when I had boarded them at other places, theyā€™d come home anxious, stinky, and with a few daysā€™ worth of stomach problems. Not this time ā€“ the staff at Freed took excellent care of them. They came home with zero GI issues, stink-free, and even my cranky, neurotic, Oregano seemed happy. The staff at Freed is terrific. Weā€™ve finally (after 13 years of searching) found our vet!

My 12 yr old Great Dane went to Freed her entire life. She became distressed, Freed could see her 4-5 days later. We called another vet who culd see her 6:30 a.m. the next day. She died that night.

My pet was put down at freed and the doctor and nurses were so sweet and made a bad experience a little easier to handle. They are a great vet office that really cares about their patients and their patients owners.

I have been taking my pets to the clinic since the sixties. However will not go back had a terrible experience with my dog. Paid $500.00 for xrays and no one had the decency to call me with the results. claimed my pet had heart worms problems but evidently it wasnt too serious as there was a 5 week wait in between getting an appt for xrays and someone responding to my constant phone calls with results Very dissapointing Sharon Perry

They killed my cat. After tooth surgery they sent her home and said she was healthy. She never recovered after tooth surgery so I brought her back two weeks later and they ran another $1500 worth of stuff on top of the $3000 that it cost for the teeth issues. They sent her home again and less than a week later I had to take her back because she was not doing well. Dr. K said they would run some different tests to try to find out what was going on. They threw the entire same kitchen sink at the wall, seeing if doing the same thing over would change the definition of insanity, my cat died she was only seven they told me that I had signed paperwork authorizing them to do things I had not authorized them to do. They charged me again for the same stuff that was inconclusive the first time. Yet they are hounding me about the bill and doing things over and they even charged me for food that she would not eat. I subsequently boarded my dog, ( before I saw the crazy cat bill) and they medicated him without my permission and prescribed drugs that I did not authorize, and would not have paid for since they were duplicates of drugs that I already had at home. The dog came home with a major case of diarrhea, even though the staff said that he was fine. He crapped all over the floors for three days This vet practice used to be wonderful, but it is now all about the money;they are understaffed and overworked, and they bring too many dogs into daycare which stresses out the entire population. Do not use

Good staff and services but horrible contact service. Almost worthless telephone and web site contact link. Update as of 5/3/2023 - even after trying different device and browser, still a horrible web site contact link. Continues to get "err name." I'll try using a telephone again.
