Where is the 0 star review? I went to Waccamaw for a few years, because I didn't think I had options with my insurance. During my years there I had a councilor that nodded off during a session, and would tell me to 'man up' when I would discuss with difficulty with doing basic tasks because of my mental health. For two years I would try to discuss with the doctor about getting tested for ADHD. He never did anything about it besides adjust my medications that did nothing. He switched my medications 3 times during my time there, which causes a hell transition period. I was scared to discuss my concerns because I didn't want to go through another adjustment. Getting meds refilled is close to impossible. It will take them 5 - 7 business days to respond to you, even if you say that you are out of a critical medication. I was dropped as a client because of what I assume was a no-show appointment, even though I called the nurse and left a message, along with replied to the text messaging system that is broken, that I had to reschedule. I was in Florida dealing with a death in the family, and left a message for the nurse to see if we could do a telehealth appointment. She never responded. I am thankful that I got dropped as a client. I am now going to a place that listens to me, helps me, and actually cares about my mental health.

Don’t take your children here! My parents took me here as a child unbelievably recommended by the horry county school system. This place was horrible. That’s probably the nicest thing I could say about it. Staff are extremely rude and not qualified for the job. If you care about your children do not take them here because I can guarantee they won’t. Their only solution is going to be “feed them pills until their quite”. Mental care is more than that, not everything can be solved with medication yet that’s all they will offer you. If medication is needed, don’t trust them with that either they don’t know what to prescribe or how to balance medication depending on the person.

I meet with a therapist named Matthew at Waccamaw every two weeks and this guy is a godsend. The staff at Waccamaw mental health at the front desk and other representatives that I have met are all beautiful people. This review is about a doctor that I met with named Kurt Klauburg. This guy is rude He's condescending he kept asking questions that I would answer and none of my answers were good enough for him. I've been diagnosed from the VA with PTSD and what another therapist called severe emotional trauma. This doctor looked to me like he was purposely just trying to push my buttons it was everything I could do to keep my cool and peaceful with this man I scheduled an appointment with a different doctor. I came home so upset I had to have an intervention after meeting with this guy and I talked to my roommate who I was unaware of was scheduled with Dr Kurt Klauburg I will not post on here my roommate's thoughts and response about this man but he told me he had to request another doctor as well. I'm serious when I tell you that just the four or five minutes I spent on a video conference with this man it took me 30 minutes in your parking lot sitting in my car to calm down before I Don't have time to spell check this I hope it all makes sense with speech to text as I stated everybody else I've had contact with at Waccamaw are all beautiful people and I thank you very much and look forward to continued treatment there

Oh what a horrible place. The lady at the desk was talking some serious nasty stuff to other lady about a black man that came in that was clearly mentally handicapped. She said "these ni-gg-ers come in here and expect high class accommodations" then they laughed.... never seen such openly rasist public mental health environment before. Then I go up to the window... they tell me my person left for the day lol. Gave me a 5 week away appointment cause the person randomly left lol... what joke. Traveled 1 hour to get told doctor decided to go home take personal day. What a nice job. Whish I could work there randomly go home when I want.

Had 2 appts today went to the 1st one and was harassed when I entered and left for cigs. I said no and they approached me at my car. When I was checking out the girl at the counter said we need 5 dollars before you leave today. I stated I'll be back for my next appointment in 15 mins. She said if I didn't pay 5 dollars I couldn't leave. I left but now fear being harassed again when I go back.Threatening someone with mental health problems for 5 bucks does not seem like the best care. I am definitely looking other places. Also an update now my therapist Jamie is upset because my work schedule doesnt convience her. If you haven't applied here yet don't. Jamie my therapist also lied and said she had covid on the 1st visit. She was in the back doing paperwork it's just very unprofessional

I have been lied to twice by this facility. Firstly, when I waited an extra hour and a half and I was told the nurse had a crisis by the supervisor. The nurse, unaware of the supervisors lie told me she was late because she was eating lunch at a restaurant. Secondarily, I had a doctors appointment scheduled a month in advance which was canceled a day before with no notice. I was told they made contact with my mother since I don’t have cell service and she was told that they needed to reschedule, they then closed my case without contacting anyone. I took this lie at face value, come to realize two weeks later after checking my moms call logs and it creating chaos in my life they did in fact not call her. Although I do appreciate the services for cheap I will not be going back and I will do everything I can to let everyone know that they will lie to you. Evil people

I have been going here for years and the psychiatrists and the counselors are great. I currently see Dr. Hassan + my counselor is Fran. I like them both! The thing I'm mad about is for the last year, they cannot keep your scheduled appointments straight. On 3 - 4 occasions my appointment had been changed and they said they changed it in the computer, only to later find out later that it was NEVER changed in the computer. They have even changed my counselor and put a date in the computer for me without consulting, confirming, or even talking to me! I just got that auto voicemail saying that I have an appointment with this new counselor and on this date. Nobody told me any of this! I called and made them put me back with my counselor + back on the original date and time! It is insane that they cannot keep appointments straight in the computer!

Terrible terrible , I made an appointment and was told I would see a therapist and psych face to face , they shoved me in a tiny room with a webcam and cameras to talk to a “therapist” I asked if I would ever see a doctor or therapist face to face in person they said probably not. Very weird atmosphere and why do I want to tell a computer my problems ? I don’t recommend this place at all for anyone dealing with mental health issues. AWFUL.

My ex-husband who was chronically and severely mentally ill was provided with excellent case management by Ms. Linda Grant over the many years she managed his care. She was instrumental in getting him into a loving foster home and followed up consistently over many years, making sure he also got medical treatment necessary. He died recently which was a blessing for him; however, he was even more blessed by the truly kind professional care given by Ms. Grant. I would like to send a letter to the director on her behalf--if i can find who that person is--as she deserves recognition for her fine service and its reflection on how community sees the Mental Health Center.

Terrible Place. No wonder why they're on a therapist shortage, multiple therapist re-assignments, cancellations without any notice and they give your appointments away without any particular reason. The doctors are mainly just speaking to a computer in a secluded room. Most of the time it's medicate until they shut up.

The fact that a board member went on the news and stated the system wasn't broken and doesn't need fixing shows how out of touch she and the rest of the board are with mental health in the State of South Carolina. I am sure it is more about her losing the money or notoriety of serving on the board that has more to do with it. Because anyone involved in the mental health system in South Carolina as a patient or provider knows this system is broken.

I really like my therapist but it is hard to make appointments. I do not like my psychiatrist he is very cold. He doesn’t seem like he really cares or understands. I have expressed several times that I don’t feel my meds are working and he has not changed them. I am taking my children here as well and the process to become a patient is ridiculous. If there was somewhere else here near us that I could see a psychiatrist and therapist I would definitely change. I was doing telemedicine with MUSC for several years but its challenging to be tested for mental health that way but Waccamaw mental health needs to have more doctors like the ones at MUSC were they are understanding, compassionate, always able to get in touch with someone

Had my intake there recently and probably will not return. Most people do not like their information publicly announced, especially HIPPA binding info. So when you check in they make you state your full name and address, they refused to take my ID. They will make someone more uncomfortable in an already uncomfortable place. The reception staff try to be-friend patients, and allow video calls from the receptionists personal phone with patients! I mean very horrible first impression. Intake staff also mentioned that they are always losing staff. Office staff was also ordering food and talking about food nonstop. Not a good environment to do that, a patient may not be able to get or buy food, or not have had food in days and it's basically a slap in the face to them.

Been going here for over twenty years, but only because there are literally no affordable alternatives in the area. Turnover rate is exceedingly high, I've gone through more therapists and psychiatrists than I care to count. Some of the employees are fantastic. Others are so spaced out that they honestly have no business working here. If I'm there for thirty minutes and twenty minutes of my appointment consists of dead silence while a therapist, nurse, or psychiatrist types on their computer, then that's a problem. If I have an appointment and don't get called back until 30-60 minutes after the scheduled time (and that's assuming I even get called back at all!), then that's a problem. Both things are exceedingly common. This review is being posted because now I can't even get a hold of an employee over the phone anymore. Their system got updated and now the only way to reach my psychiatrist is by typing their last name in with my phone's keypad so their registry can connect me to her. Too bad her name isn't actually in the registry, so that option doesn't seem to work! And yes, I typed it right. How this place even manages to stay open is beyond me. If I could get my medication literally anywhere else, then I would drop this place in a heartbeat. Update: I've now had an appointment with the same person rescheduled at the last minute for the fourth or fifth time this year. I think I've only actually managed to see her twice in the past year. I guess none of the employees realize that people have lives and that repeatedly cancelling appointments with little to no warning is extremely detrimental to them.

This Google review needs help. I go here to see a therapist on sliding scale and so far it has been very helpful. Like with a lot of sliding scale medical centers there is a lot of paperwork and patients needed to get through the initial stages of being treated. But once everything is set up and appointments are made its a breeze. The only down side is being able to see the Psychologist bc they are only available every few months. I know seeing the bad reviews are scary but try not to let that turn you away from finding help. It's all worth it.

No courtesy. Horrendous service. Drove over an hour this morning for my appointment (which was set up through another doctors’ office, not directly by me, the patient), only to be told they could not see me because they were short-staffed. No notice of this what-so-ever, prior to my appointment. Only reason they get 1 star is because 0 stars is not an option.

Absolutely awful place. I pray no one has to admit theirselves here. The workers do not care about anyone. All the workers here truly need to think about how they want to live their life. It makes no sense why everyone that works at this facility is disrespectful and not one person has 1 spec of humanity in their hearts.

Absolute idiots. Diagnosed me with morphine and thc disorder but evaluation said I wasn’t given a urine drug screen. Put that I was hallucinating because I kept seeing drones. Like I have videos of these drones you idiot. Put im delusional because my sons father left his phone in my home hidden with spy apps. And diagnosed me schizophrenic because those two facts I told. This evaluation cost me l custody of my son. Livid doesn’t begin to describe

They never return calls, it is impossible for anyone to get services through them. Mental Health is so prominent in this nation and when a MH facility has a rating of 1.7 we have a bigger problem. Its a shame those who need services don't qualify for insurance because they are 20 and have no job and apparently the parents income is too high to get decent insurance. SO he is given insurance that doesn't cover any MH at all then left to resort to a place like this to obtain help and the raitng is 1.7 and they dont return call. He's been trying to get in here for literally over a year!!! When he calls he's told there is a waiting list of 6 months, then later given 1 month, and the last call (when he calls mind you) is back up to now 4 months! This is a broken system.

This place is a joke. The receptionist doesn't care for your mental health. I clearly stated that I go by a different name than my government name and she preceded to repeat that name, which I have PTSD from, she was then extremely disrespectful towards me and called me a female, she was very rude towards me, i went here for a few years and had no issues that were this quite extreme. I'd rather get no help and no critical medications than go to this place after this incident. The psychiatrist I was seeing here was very cold and didnt listen to what i was saying, and my second appointment with her she forgot everything i had told her in the first appointment. My therapist was very respectful though and listened to everything and very much helped me out in my time of need - shout out to Sierra, for being one of my best therapists she's a real one.

If I could give 0 stars I would. Lady up front was super nice but the woman I talked to in the back office was extremely rude and unsympathetic to anything I said. Didn’t care that she couldn’t help us and was completely dismissive.

I'm not sure how this place got such bad reviews but they were so helpful and very sweet with me. After my daughter got released I came back for future services for her, and I felt they actually cared for her mental health. I would highly recommend this place to people.

If I could give 0 stars I would! My brother was scheduled for an appointment there and when he arrived they proceeded to ask him why HE was wasting their time because he needed to go to Shoreline first. First of all he has NO substance abuse problems, but that shouldn't matter since he had a scheduled appointment. While waiting for the paperwork to fill out he could hear the receptionist tell another person "It's people like this that make me sick. They come up here a ring like they need help when they really don't." How dare you people. This is a "mental health" facility you DO NOT have to have a substance abuse problem to need therapy. You have absolutely NO clue why they are there and why therapy is needed. You turn somebody away that definitely needs therapy and now they are discouraged by this interaction.yoi ALL should be ashamed of yourself. If he does something crazy it falls on YOUR shoulders

This place is a joke. They seem alright when you’re doing good. But please don’t need any help they’ll send you in circles. Definitely not professional and don’t have a clue what to do with their mental health patients.

I had to stop 1 of 2 medications for my mental health issues. Just had an appointment with my therapist on August 16 and I had to call 911 again for my husband because of his medications for his mental illness needed for the 2nd time after he was released from the last Behavior Healthcare Hospital he was at. Now I am starting to struggle with myself because I can't use their website to contact my doctor through the website and I really don't want to call and be kept in the dark.
