From the outside, this castle is absolutely beautiful, and the view of the hill with the castle on it is a must see. This review does not concern the outside of the castle (as seen from afar), rather the inside. Firstly, the mini-exhibitions in the different rooms seem to have nothing in common with each other, there is a lack of coherence throughout the entire road of the “tour”. Most of the items look like they were picked off in a local flea market for a discounted price. There is no explanation as to what connection the content of each room has to the castle itself, some rooms therefore look like storage units. Secondly, the inner ground of the castle is without any genuine meaning to it other than the unappealing stands. Overall, the insides do not look well thought out, and are in need of some serious investment. (especially the stairs and the walls) Would not necessarily recommend visiting the insides of the castle.

The castle only looks great from the outside. However, visiting it is a waste of time. There is nothing original inside. Few exhibits are accidental and unrelated to the history of the place. Visiting a torture chamber is a very low form of entertainment.

Die königliche, romanische Steinburg stammt aus der 2. Hälfte des 12. Jahrhundert.

The castle is in excellent condition. open all year round. You can visit without a guide; they provide a guidebook in different languages. can be reached from Karlovy Vary by bus. There is a torture room in the castle. Quite interestingly furnished.

Sehr malerischer Ort.

Velmi krásné prostředí a okolí hradu. My ho měli, a proto ta jedna hvězda.

A great example of a castle with a long history. A centre square is set up to hold "period" days where people dress in character for the day. Our teenage boys enjoyed the visit too.

Lovely Czech castle. Unfortunately I couldn't bare torture room, but my husband and kids enjoyed it as well as the running around the castle. Family 2 adults + 2 kids ticket 18 euro. If you want a guides audio, then 23 euro.

Definitely worth a visit. Beautiful restored castle with lots of history and full of interesting artifacts and stunning views. An absolute must for tourists. Even has the original torture Chambers with sound effects. Pretty scary and very realistic for young children though.!

So far the most beautiful castle I've seen, not only does it look incredible from far away sitting on the mountain rock, but also on the inside it still has the medieval sense to it, add to that the amazing views around it (forests). Also you're free to roam inside as you wish, so few restrictions, plus a surprise in the dungeons!

Today's trip from Prague to Loket Castle. Our guest from the USA chose a 6-hour rental towards this impressive place, which is located only 10 Km from Karlovy Vary. We recommend everyone to visit this place, you won't regret it. Or if you want, you can use our travel services, have a local driver on your trip who will also be your guide and you will learn much more. Travel with us and discover the wonderful places of Europe. A beautiful place and a rather interesting castle, where you can spend a couple of hours walking around it and looking at its expositions. The dungeon with its reconstruction turned out to be very chilling. I liked it very much.

Yksi Tšekin vanhimmista kivilinnoista. Näyttävällä paikalla Eger-joen suistossa valtavan kallion päällä sijaitseva linna on yli 800 vuotta vanha! Hussilaissotien (1419-1439) aikaan linna pysyi katolilaisten hallussa. 1900-luvun alussa kaupunki sijoitti linnan alueelle museon. Museo on laajentunut sittemmin vankilatoiminnan päättymisen jälkeen. Nykyisin Loketin linna on paitsi näyttävä rakennushistoriallinen monumentti, myös useiden erilaisten näyttelyiden museokompleksi. Suurin osa linnasta on omistettu erilaisten, lähinnä keskiaikaisten, mutta myöhemminkin käytettyjen kidutusmenetelmien esittelyyn. Linnan tyrmissä sijaitseva näyttely on käymisen arvoinen, sillä vanhaan vankilaan sijoitettuun kidutusnäyttelyyn on selkeästi panostettu. Loket on hieman reilun puolen tunnin automatkan päässä Karlovy Varysta. Loketissa voi vierailla myös junalla tai bussilla. Linnan lisäksi kaupunginssa on muutakin nähtävää, mutta päivä riittää vierailuun hyvin, mikäli ajan käyttää tehokkaasti.

Absolutely stunning castle that structurally is so well preserved on the outside. It is among the oldest castles in the Czech land, standing for more than 800 years. The town derives its name from the shape of the Ohre River where the castle was located. It is in the shape of an elbow (Loket in Czech). There are various rooms to see and everything is well laid out. the first room with the meteorite was kind of cool and completely unexpected. The ancient tombstones upon entering were very interesting. Other rooms of note are the rotunda, the exposition of porcelain, and the armory. the torture chamber was very very unique and kinda scary. Entry fee was 6 euro per person.

Loket castle is worth the visit if you're in the area, even though you can walk through it fairly quickly - I'd say it took us about an hour to see everything. The town around the caste is also pretty.

It was a surprisingly great place. We loved it. We almost had the whole castle for ourselves. Good value, price 6€ (August 2022) Went with our 1yo & could leave the stroller by the entrance, because the road is terrible for strollers and you have to go up quite a few stairs. But every corner you turn you keep being surprised 😯 and the torture chambers are so well recreated. Do not miss!

Amazing. Hidden gem 💎, not listed on all the places to see in Czech Republic but so much worth it. Not far from Karlovy Vary, the castle is situated on a hill towering above a small river, creating a spectacular landscape. The entrance is paid, but after you are free to roam and discover at your own liberty and pace, which we loved. Nice expositions (everything in Czech though!) and interesting content really made it engaging for me. I can only and truly recommend. For the entrance you can pay by card and there is a parking within a reasonable walking distance (also paid).

Not a fan of castles, but this one was OK as it has nice views from tower, windows, not to many expositions and exceptional, I wuold say, torture chamber. Recommend comming early in the morning as later it gets crowded.

Pro tip: free parking g is about a 5 minute walk away just past the train station on the left. We stopped at the first restaurant we saw on the walk to the castle. There is also conssssions inside the castle - light fair, wurst, ice cream, coffee, etc. Nothing says family fun like a recreated torture chamber! All joking aside, this was an excellent way to spend a sunny Sunday afternoon. Lots of history and interesting exhibits. I would not recommend a stroller as the steps are not highly accessible to them or wheelchairs. Bring cash because many restaurants are cash only. You can purchase tickets woth card but that's about it. Everyplace we went accepted euros.

Wow!!!

  • 5/5 Benedikt S. 8 months ago on Google
Top Schloss.

We've been to many German and Czech castles, this one ranks up there with the absolute best! The town is very small but has a few top quality eateries and the castle Cafe itself is very good. Highly recommended 👍🏻 The medieval torture display in the castle is a little more realistic than most.

  • 5/5 T K. 3 months ago on Google New
A wonderful place with lots to see, some genuine authentic gravestones on display in the yard. They are planning to renovate the rest of the castle eventually and possibly later in 2024 more of it will be open to the public. Various displays of Bone China and other antique rooms included in the ticket price.

Absolutely amazing castle to visit. Even self-guided tour was great, so many areas are open to visitors, including parts of Roman rotunda that was hidden in staircase. The prison area is very realistically done, mannequins staged in cells to demonstrate gruesome torture devices (avoid if you are sensitive). History is explained, though there is room for improvement in making it more visitor- friendly (like an audio tour for example). There were few interactive areas for kids

Ticket for one adult is 110kc. By far my favorite castle that I’ve visited in Czech Republic. The area is so peaceful and scenic, like a little village in a movie. After exploring the castle (there’s a torture dungeon, a small porcelain and glass gallery, a gallery of weapons and suits of armors, a tower with a beautiful view from there) you can easily go down to several restaurants, ice cream parlors, and little stores. I cannot forget the beautiful colorful small buildings.

Not out first visit to Loket but this was by far the best. The castle had a history day and there were plenty of stalls including traditional foods, stands for blacksmiths and workers from the era. The castle is breathtaking including the local town. We had plenty of snacks and drink and all at a very good price. We will go back to the castle and hopefully get to see the torture rooms. Definitely worth a trip.

Charming little town without hordes of tourists. This is a great place to get a feel for the towns outside of Prague. The castle is simple and they give you access to it most of it. Then there is the infamous dungeon and torture portion. I had kids 9, 11 and 15 and they were ok but I think a little appalled at the brutality people would inflict on others. Nothing was super realistic but just seeing it made them all quiet. It is inexpensive to get in, the castle has been maintained well, and the river around the wall is very cool. Eat lunch and spend a few hours, it’s a great site.
