Expensive in hotel rate for this aged hotel. Most of the facilities need to be upgrade. WiFi is only available in lobby area not in the room. you need to walk by staircase if the cable car service is down. Which really cause inconvenient for people who having leg issues. The upper level will alway disturb by dog barking through out, which you can't get good rest Although the pool should be a relaxing area. But with all the drinking party along, it could be quite disturbing.

The hotel staff are always friendly. The lobby area is a little tired, needs work done. When it rains the poor cleaner will stand there mopping the floor as the roof leaks. Great breakfast and not pricey at all. The pizza was good. The rooms were tidy for the price we paid. Nice pool area.

The food here is very greasy! Reception Staff are friendly and helpful. Restaurant staff are few and you have to wait a while before being attended to. Rooms are clean and spacious. The entertainment is provided in-house and is the best pacific islands show in Honiara. They have a cable car which transports guests to the various levels of accomodation. Would not be pleasant if this cable car ever broke down.

Was a good hotel in the day but has really gone downhill. Stayed for three weeks and had got water for maybe 4 days. Sometimes there was no water at all. Rooms were clean but very dated. They just seem to keep doing patch ups all around the hotel. The pool was OK sometimes, other days it started going quite green looking. The cable car was a novelty at first and after a while it was annoying waiting for a ride so ended up using the stairs, which was fine unless your room was right at the top. Noise from the bar and performances on the weekends made it hard to sleep. The food on offer at the restaurant was limited so we ended up eating at other places. Only stay here if there are no other options or doing a short one night stay.

Live band on weekends when someone is trying to sleep. Awful. I do not recommend.

Awesome. Pool and funicular-accesible rooms, restaurant, and bar. Stylish lobby. The only complaint was the wifi could only be used in a 10 meter radius of the front desk.

It was a decent hotel and well located. I stayed at the rooms above the swimming pool and enjoyed it. The vintage cable car is nice experience and probably the highlight of my stay here.

Good location, but hotel is very tired. Needs a refurb to stop things like dripping taps, lights in room not working/missing lampshades, etc.

Culturally unique. Quirky! Traditional. A bit run down but just beautiful in looks and vibe. I'm chill now!

This place felt like a death trap, woeful electrics and rotting wood. Stayed for 2 non-consecutive nights (different rooms). Noisy aircon (but working), fan and some lights out, dripping taps turned off very tightly, non-potable water, some in our party had no water, likewise electricity, one of the single beds was rock hard, the other good, cracked bathroom tiles, rusty towel rail, one fan worked, the other not, something weird/uncleaned in bathroom, soap and shampoo opened, room spacious, floor and sheets clean but threadbare, got locked in (luckily the phone to reception worked and cleaners were approaching), a couple had someone banging on their door twice at 4am so we question security. We will avoid in future

Best value for money in Honiara, I believe. The pool water was shifted before we arrived, so the water was quite okay. Good location.

Just nothing works. the tv didn't work, the kettle didn't work, the door lock didn't work, the ac is ether on or off so you freeze or melt! The city has good 4g but you cant get wifi in the rooms!

I stayed here for several day on a work trip, I was quite disappointed with the lack of amenities here, a few of the staff were quite nice but got the feeling that most of them didn't want to be there, I guess the feeling was mutual. In the restaurant I ate several meals but only one I would say was edible. The cable car barely worked and found myself just walking up all the steps to the top "floor". There was no WiFi in the rooms and the WiFi in the lobby was slow when it worked. The room had no hot water, the air conditioner sounded like a jet engine when it was going but you could not turn it off or you would cook. The tv barely picked up one channel and I swear it just plays the same 4 movies on repeat. I guess it's in a pretty good location and I did feel very safe but I cannot recommend it.

Ordered a wood fire pizza. Tasty however so slow to come out that I thought time had stopped.

Absolute shambles. No WiFi in the rooms despite advertising otherwise and staff nonchalant about everything. Avoid!!

Always ask hotel staffs if you want to change something inside the room. In my case: stove, window net. They will provide/fix itu after you ask

Arguably the most reasonably priced clean hotel one can get in Honiara. A quaint funicular train shuttles guests from the rooms on the hill to the reception and restaurant area.

Bad news: Hot water 1 day out of 7; Power shuts off about 10 times per day; Staff appears undertrained or undersupervised: housekeeping (left me with no towels or tea in room, the kettle -when it showed up - was dirty on the outside, and I should have checked inside before using, and my belt went missing [not saying it was stolen but also not sure how you lose a belt]), lobby (same sticky rings on coffee table in lounge all week), Front desk (could not print my receipt, promised to send by email, did not follow through). Good news: Restaurant was good (when they got the order right or had what you wanted), free breakfast, room was pleasant (other than the divot in the mattress), people were nice, and the ambience/decor was pleasant, if dusty, and the room rates are economical. Nothing wrong here that proper management can't fix. I can recommend it if you have a sense of humour about details.

If satain had a hotel it would be nicer. The place is getting run down and no there seems to care. Of the group I was with staying there haft of the toilets didn’t work and everyone had several lights that didn’t work. The televisions worked like strobe lights, signals coming and going so fast it hurt your eyes just trying to figure out what was being shown. Of the two weeks we stayed no one ever had a full night of uninterrupted sleep. Friday and Saturday nights the bar played the music loud enough for you to feel the base booming in your room and if that was it I would be fine but every night yes every night starting anytime after eight to four in the morning there would be several dogs fighting under the rooms. The dog fights were so loud it was like the dogs were in the rooms. We learned that calling the front dest was pointless but if you threw rocks, yelled and made a loud enough noise the dogs would retreat for an hour or two. A few of us felt that we were over charged at the bar/restaurant, no a lot but it just seemed like there would be an extra drink or two added to the bill. And the free breakfast, now, yes it’s free and if your into fried rice, baked beans and fruit flies, lots and lots of fruit flies, you’ll love it. The place does appear to be clean, although falling apart at the seems, and for the most part the staff are very friendly but there is no way I could recommend this place to anyone because the constant dog fights throughout the night by itself is enough for a one star review. The extra cost of the Heritage or the Kitano Mendana is well worth it, unless you’re into not sleeping. Ever

Very interesting hotel. My room was very big and clean. Taking the unique cable car up to the 8th floor was the highlight of staying here. This place literally looks like something from an Indiana Jones movie! Extremely pleasant and hospitable front desk.

Interesting hotel that is significantly above the local standard of living. Two air conditioners per room, at least one will work. Pizza is surprisingly good, breakfast comes with the room and is worth walking over. Weird tracked gondola thing only works if all the safety doors are closed. Expect to get stuck half way up at least once. Would give three stars but it would be unfair given the surrounding community. It was clean and maintained. It's a hotel, not a resort. It is dated and needs repairs but has a lot of character. On a side note, the King Solomon Hotel is located at the base of Hill 84, part of the "Matanikau Action" during the WWII Guadalcanal Campaign.

Great staff - they treat you like a friend - not just a customer. Great food - try their pizza and lobster fried rice - you will not be disappointed. Make sure that you stay on a Friday night for the Traditional Dancers and "One Chick" singing - she is as good as any performance you will see anywhere -and it is free. Comfortable rooms - with a safe for your valables. Great atmosphere with the gardens and wood carvings. The chair lift to your room is a real novelty. Really exceeded my expectations. This Hotel was recommended to me by a local as I have always stayed at the Mendana, but I was sadly disappointed. On allocation of the room it appeared that the bathroom had not been cleaned. The toilet had been used and not flushed, the room had no hot water and despite reporting the issue to the staff on three separate occasions nothing was done to either fix the problem or offer an alternate room and there were no towels in the room. The meals on the other hand were very good.
