I regretfully sent a positive review a few months ago, only because I was asked to do so by a staff member. Yes, I was actually asked to give a "good" review. Now, after my father has been a resident for 6 months I cannot even begin to entertain the thought of leaving anything positive at all. Literally every time I visit, which is 1-3 times a week, his sheets are either soiled or have dried food on them. His clothes are no where to be found or he has on something far too small for him. The most recent visit completely solidified my opinion of the lack of cleanliness and care. The odor in the room was so bad that my wife was unable to stay for even a few moments. The dried urine behind his bed was caked on the wall and floor. I was told they would do a "Deep Clean" but not until Tuesday! It had obviously been that way a few days prior to my visit. I understand the "deep clean" on Tuesday but why hadn't someone used a mop on this mess before? Once I questioned the staff they managed to gather a mop and some disinfectant within minutes. Does it actually take someone to point out fecal matter and urine? A unbearable odor? Soiled sheets? I work in the Environmental and Safety field so when I was told that they were unable to get to the chemicals I nearly laughed out loud. Soap, water, non toxic disinfectants and a mop are available 24/7. Changing soiled sheets requires only a few minutes and gloves. Working with and caring for seniors in different stages of dementia requires you to be a special type of person. I certainly hope not only for my father but for other residents that you're able to obtain some . Personality is how you act when people are watching. Character is how you act when no one is watching. The facility completely lacks character.

Do not put your loved one here, especially if they have Dementia or Alzheimer's! The neglect is unbelievable. I know people might think that if it was that bad why did I keep my mom there? The truth is when covid hit it was hard to move her especially since in the very beginning of Alzheimer's she had behavioral issues. Her financial situation was not good at all and no one was able to take care of her full time. But now that she is gone, the guilt set in. This place was horrible. (My husband works at a nursing home and it's nothing like this place, my aunt is in a place in Hudson that is beautiful and the staff is caring.) The worst part was when my mom was on hospice she had been unresponsive for days and the male LPN was saying her name and telling her to open her mouth while he was trying to give her medicine and applesauce. Thankfully the hospice nurse or aide stepped up and said " no no no stop she will aspirate and choke to death". (The Arbors staff definitely needs educated and training for end of Life Care) The same LPN days before had brought mom food and tells my sister "she hasn't been eating" again she was non responsive. The last time I was there when my mom was semi responsive no one even paid anybody attention to what they were eating they couldn't even use their silverware yet they collected all their food and asked them if they were done. My mom couldn't even figure out how to use a fork and neither could the lady next to her, let alone feed themselves and there was absolutely no documentation done. Mom at one point was covered in bruises and no one knew why. ( and I know at an elderly age people bruise easy, but she never had any before and she never had any after that time) She also had a nasty skin tear and nobody knew where it came from and it took a long time to heal. She was just about immobile when the skin tear At one point during covid we were not able to visit our mom through a window but yet they were able to do Trunk-or-Treat and have people coming through there making contact with employees that were later going to work with our mom and other elders....makes no sense. I'm sure they will reply to this comment with an excuse, but we have plenty of documentation where they were messing up meds that's why we that's why we had the ombudsman come in and that's why we started hospice kind of early because we knew things were getting messed up and the ball was being dropped. There were several times where we would swing by and a worker would be sleeping at the desk I know staff gets tired and they are short-staffed but in fear of being called names or of them hurting our mom we kept quiet. I really can't understand how they have five stars, but it seems like a lot of the positive comments are paid employees.

My family had a wonderful experience with Arbors. Everyone from our first points of contact (Nancy and Ruthie) to the clinical and non-clinical teams were kind, patient, and easy to work with. My grandma was in late stage dementia and moved directly to the F Unit, and it was the exact fit for her specific care needs. Arbors was the right place at the right time for our family, and they made the transition to a skilled care facility as smooth as possible.

I hated to even give this place 1 star, but you can't give negative stars. This place is filthy and chronically understaffed. The units smell of urine so strong it burns your eyes and your clothes smell of urine after any kind of visit with your loved one. My loved one was only here for 3 weeks and their neglect resulted in my loved one requiring 4 weeks and counting of hospitalization. My loved one nearly died from severe malnourishment and dehydration, resulting in kidney failure. The hospital and myself, reported them to APS, and was subsequently recently investigated by the state. That investigation found more than one violation resulting in citations. This is public record. If you love your family member, please save them and your family the heartache my loved one and family is currently going through. The pictures on their website are deceiving. They had to have been taken decades ago. I have shared the pictures below of exactly what the rooms look like now. Please look this place up on the state website to look at their reports and violations / citations before even considering this place.

I worked here for a couple years including as a floor nurse and management nurse. This facility truly has my heart. They go above and beyond to keep each resident safe and accommodate his or her individual needs. I especially appreciate how there are different units geared towards a different level of dementia care. Dementia is an ever changing disease and requires individualized care, which this facility has truly done. The physician and nurse practitioner that oversee the residents here are attentive and listen to the needs of the resident. Overall, a great place for a resident with those extra needs related to dementia/Alzheimer’s.

Our mother stayed here for a five day respite, and we were very pleased with the care she received! The nurse and really everyone we were in contact with, were very helpful and kind. If she receives another respite stay, we will definitely return to the Arbors at Stow.

The staff is so caring and I love all of the activities they have for the residents. There’s dolls to play with and tables with puzzles and they do a lot to ensure the residents have enough to keep them busy and happy. Nancy the admissions director is so kind and compassionate. I can’t recommend Arbors at Stow enough.
