99% of the time, Staff is rude to color people from personal experience. It’s always the front emergency staff or people who answer the phone but S/O to that 1 percent who have been super sweet to me and my family but the other makes me not want to trust them with my children that’s very sad. I’ve complained before and NEVER GOT TOOK SERIOUSLY … super sad when this is the only kids hospital near me, as a parent it makes me sad seeing my kids get treated differently b/c of skin color. Breaks my heart hopefully they let go of all the rude nurses and dr’s one day but until I’ll just pray for them.

My daughter was in the Nicu here and for some reason they neglected my daughter my daughter ended up catching Covid. The doctors weren’t calling me or alerting me to let me know what was going on with her. I did not know she had Covid until I called to ask, when can she come to the Nicu and The area that I live in….. The nurses was extremely rude. Some of the doctors were extremely rude, and they neglected my daughter…… my daughters been in the Nicu for almost 6 months and for that time she’s been in the Nicu here it’s been horrible experience for me. I just wanna know what I can do because I really want to sue this hospital and at that I just feel like they treat black babies a different way than they treat their own light babies, my daughter has a flathead deer effect. They did not use the pillows to properly head up. They might make sure they get all the money from her but they didn’t take care of her like they would do they own. These people are sick and disgusting. I forgot to add you they never cleaned her room. Her room was so disgusting and one of the nurses got rude to me got mad because I was just like her room is not clean and the nurse sat there and lied and said that she does clean the room nice when she did it because I had stuff left there. From the last time I was there…. if you’re African-American family or anything with color, I feel like you should always be up there with your baby. Don’t let them tell you nothing and you always ask questions and if it don’t sound right look it up because these doctors and nurses are not here for us they don’t care for us and you can look it up. That’s why there’s so many black moms dead and so many black babies dying so yeah, do your research….. and then, when it was time for my daughter to leave the Nicu, there was no celebration they did not teach me the CPR stuff. They didn’t tell me really nothing when she left, they didn’t give me no extractions no nothing so when she got home, I was a nervous wreck.

I love Akron Childrens. From the moment my son was born, his stay in the NICU was amazing. The nurses were attentive and friendly and very helpful. When I had to leave due to my own health emergency they helped facilitate me getting to Akron General nearby and saved my life. I appreciate all the hard work that they do. I cannot say enough great things about them and will be forever grateful for what they did for my son and I.

I took my 2 year old with a fever and basically lethargic, waited over 3 hours and was never seen. She was miserable and they seemed to not care. When we arrived I was 1 of 4 people in the waiting room. We left once the waiting room kept filling up and we weren't getting any help. The front desk lady told me someone had been waiting 5 hours, that's ridiculous, you're an emergency room, yet treat every patient like they're fine to wait. I'd give zero stars if that was an option

Akron Children's Hospital is driven by profit. My son spent 10 min sonography section and was charged $974 for that part of the visit. Ridiculous. You wait long for doctor to show up, you have to answer nurse, then trainee and then doctor gives a passing visit. Average service but overpriced. I'll avoid this place for my kid and recommend that you also avoid this place.

Dr lambert Jenkins should not be a Dr! Don't leave your child alone at this hospital! My daughter was there for vomiting. I told (on the phone) Dr lambert if they could figure out the vomiting, they could figure out the weight loss. She replied with "that's not what kind of Dr I am". She also told me I could remove her from the hospital against medical advice. I never said I would! I wanted her taken care of. She upset my daughter multiple times when I wasn't there. I left long enough to get coffee or check on my son. She upset my daughter and while she tried to call me, the Dr grabbed her arm and took the phone out of her hand, leaving a bruise on her arm!! She told my daughter if I removed her from the hospital she would call child protective services on me! My daughter told her that she felt like she was careless about her situation and she replied with "calling me names won't get you out of here any faster" then she walked away. Like a child. They also gave my daughter ativan and then expected her to eat! While falling asleep in a chair and they made her stay there. There are some good nurses and attending Dr's but they all have to follow the Dr's suggestions. My daughter lost 6pds while being there. She didn't improve until Dr Mason came along. She's the best Dr there. Regardless, we won't ever go back! I thought akron was the best until our experience.

Came in September to the emergency room to get my son checked out after he wasn’t using his arm. After a couple hours he was sent home with what they said was a sprain. After a week I called the orthopedic doctor where we found out the elbow was actually fractured. The only reason I’m giving 2 stars instead of 1 is because the nursing staff was very friendly.

My daughters MyChart was attached to a random persons MyChart - thus giving them access to my daughters medical history. Not only is this a HIPAA violation, it is a PII violation and put my young daughter in danger because they had my home address, my daughters age, birthday, SSN, and full medical history. It has since been "resolved" however, I have had a number of issues with this organization and will not be stepping foot in this hospital with any of my children. I hope this cautionary tale makes you rethink as I was always under the impression Akron Children's was THE children's hospital, the best of the best... I was greatly disappointed.

I'm convinced that Akron Children's Hospital is one step from a criminal organization. My experience after numerous instances over many years is that their patients are no more than case numbers. And because they are dealing with the children of loving parents they seek to take full advantage of desperate guardians. Their pricing and lack of financial assistance pails in comparison to medical companies like Summa. You'll get just as good of care going anywhere else and not have to refinance your home.

Went in for my kiddo having a temp at 3a. Place was dead and we were the only ones there. Security was super polite and friendly but I still wasn't allowed to go back with my wife or son (I'm over the COVID regulations at this point) About 30 minutes later she calls me and says they haven't seen her yet and that my kiddo is burning up and blowing a fit. I asked if they took his temp, and she confirmed. They never told her what it was. She went up to the desk to ask about his temp, wasn't acknowledge, so she left. We ended up going to another hospital. A little communication goes a long way, but no communication occurred.

the nurses at the front desk on the oncology floor are very rude and inconsiderate. asking for ID’s, snarky comments to my family about us seeing the admitted relative, lying saying how many people are back in the room (only 4 allowed at a time, we are swapping in the waiting room). the social worker was very inconsiderate as well. comparing her personal story to ours to undermine the situation, she did not introduce herself nor her role, many false accusations about my family, trying to get personal information out of our family about where we may be staying, and telling us how “lucky” we are that we are not in deep covid times and to be thankful. how can we be thankful that we are on the oncology floor?

So after being in this hospital for 4 months I can say that the door staff is by far the worst part Even if you get a pass for weeks they'll steal harass you even yelling at me and my wife across the hallway with our passes on our chest and this has happened several times. And now just to use the parking lot you have to stop at the desk anyway so what's the point of having a week-long pass if you still have to stop at the desk to deal with these horrible people. I've literally had one friendly door staff member once and that was in September before your horrible parking garage change. And while I'm here complaining I might as well let you know your help button doesn't work on your parking lot for exchange Street so people just get stranded at the gate while your machine's broken I tell you what that was a horrible move instead of a person there that can help you now it's just a machine

A while ago I had to use their emergency room service for my 6yrs daughter for her head injury. The doctor looked at her head and without trying to clean and really look into the scar decided that everything is all right as the accident happened indoor and let us go. the next day I have cleared the wound and was shocked by the size of the wound and took her to another doctor who was surprised that she has not got any stiches or at least some stapples to close it. Unfortunately, the window to that was closed and my daughter must live with her wide scar which is also visible even with her long head to the rest of her life. I know that this may not help anyone who is rushing into the emergency room as we did. But I am writing this to the hospital authorities so they may reconsider how to treat their injured patients.

Let me start by saying the ER staff had always and continues to be top notch. My concern is the gap between ER staff and admission, what child should have to wait 7 hours for a bed? The ER staff shows equal frustration, but when a Dr. orders to have a child admitted should a room wait time be over 4 hours? There are no excuses to have a child sit in the ER room waiting on a room without consistent communication for 4 hours. I'm really disappointed in the communication and processes at ACH. I don't know what the root cause is but when you are striving to be a top children's hospital these mishaps/failures cannot help. Again, staff for my 4 children over the past 10+ years has been excellent however I definitely see a deep slide with the past 2 visits and have concerns with the complete care administered here.

I never knew a child stating that they wanted to self harm wasn’t an emergency. Akron children’s hospital has went down hill. My son came in an ambulance and they told the paramedics to take my son to the lobby. When we got the lobby no one was helpful and the waiting area was full of people. I will never go back to Akron Children’s emergency and I wouldn’t recommend taking a child there since nothing is an emergency! FYI someone contacted me via google review and gave me a number that they does not answer and never returned my phone voicemail.

We have gone to Akron Children's for multiple reasons. Once for surgery when my daughter broke her nose. Before all that, we actually looked at Akron Children's when we were first expecting, meeting with a doctor who had been recommended to us, it took everything in me to not run out of that meeting. I have never had a doctor talk to me like that! There are so many doctors within ACH I'm sure that this is not true for all of them, we just happened to pick a not so great doctor. The other doctors who were highly rated were not accepting new patients or difficult to schedule with. We ended up going with a doctor with a private practice that was 40 min away because his approach to health care was in line with what we were looking for, his bedside manner is fantastic (very approachable, professional and kind) and he ran his business in a way that was client focused (for example he didn't believe a doctors office should have a waiting room, scheduling could be done in a way so the patient doesn't need to wait and easy to get in to see). We now have three children, all who have gone to him. Recently the practice sold to ACH, it has been sad to see and experience the change. I don't have the heart to share with him these things and I'm not sure it would accomplish anything. No waiting in the waiting room to now waiting. So much more paperwork! No billing issues, or billing issues quickly resolved and kindly addressed, went to lots of billing issues not being addressed and due to ACH mistakes. We only continue to go to see the specific doctor, once he leaves or retires I'll be so glad to no longer be going to an ACH office! In the meantime I will continue to look for a doctor elsewhere. I understand ACH is a big business with lots of resources and may be the best option for specific situations, I share all this for anyone who may feel they need to go to ACH, always save paperwork and take detailed notes of the visit. However, in general I recommend seeking a private practice with a doctor who shares similar values and approach, if done well, he/she is able to provide a much better service than a "big box" approach. I have also had a friend who switched to Cleveland Clinic (for a child with high medical needs) as another option due to issues at ACH. Something to think about, there are other options!

They are terrible. My wife broke her two toes and they just slapped a boot on and sent her home. They didn’t give her any medicine or anything, she’s been crying in pain all day! The doctor lied and said the numbing shots would last a day and didn’t last 5 hours. My wife’s toe literally was at a 90 degree angle and the other toes bone was slit in half, no crutches or wheelchair was provided. I definitely will not be going back to this horrible hospital.

Our son was born with an issue and needed he needed to have surgery at the very young age of 11 weeks. Our Urologist, Dr. Eric Massanyi, was not only professional, but very caring. All of the nurses on the surgery floor were very empathetic and were the utmost respectful and helpful in every way possible. There is a reason Akron Children’s is one of the top children’s hospitals. Thank you!

Took my child there today because she was suicidal. They sent her home and recommended she get some counseling in addition to the counseling she already gets! Gave her zero help!! I can’t even get her to eat, drink, or go to school, but they sent her home and recommended counseling!

Horrible experience tonight, 3 hour wait time with a crouching 8 year old in tears and pain. We watched patiently as patients came in and got called while we wait our turn. I approached registration with concern about our wait time and that my child was having trouble breathing. She insured we'd be next in line and 5 others were called ahead. I seek to advise to be seen as my sons condition is worsening. The "charge" nurse comes to speak to me about how others level of care came before my child. I am livid and sitting in a different hospital with my sick child after being diagnosed with pneumonia. How can a screaming 8 year old complaining he can't breath not enough for anyone to help him... let alone letting him suffer for 3 hours. We watched as patients checked in and got called back and discharged and my son wailed and begged to be seen. *** I will be putting an investigation on all reviews and reaching out to everyone with similar experiences… we need to do better when it comes to the safety and care of our children. I advised ER that if I take my kid who’s complaining he can’t breath to another hospital and find out he has pneumonia I am coming for those hospital records to see how my child’s level of care wasn’t enough to be put to the top. Sure enough he was diagnosed with pneumonia and was severely dehydrated.

Make an appointment online it's amazing doctor Lee is just the sweetest man ever. They can do blood work or whatever you need they are very knowledgeable. There one of the best hospitals in the nation. Now the ER is a different story if you could call it an er. but I just put that in the ER building reviews.

Currently in the NICU unit with my babygirl & the nursing staff are terrible!!! When knowing the cure a baby needs they barley meets any needs for my baby. Only time she is checked on or looked on is for an assessment every 3 hours!! They’ll leave milk and slob just running out her mouth knowing my baby can’t use it swallow. I’m disappointed with the staff. It can be better when it comes to these infant/newborn babies!!!

Let me begin by saying that Akron Children's Hospital is great! They have great staff and are always very thorough as far as questions and concerns go. But there medical billing is terrible!!! The staff is super rude and doesn't work with you at all on a reasonable payment plan. I have great credit but I also am paying on a ton of other bills, so I told them how much I can afford to pay and they said that's not good enough. They want more or they are going to send me to collections and ruin my credit. Lovely people I tell you what. I suggest akron childrens hires different staff for the billing department, I understand that's their policies and that's what they have to go by, but the billing staff does not need to be so rude about it! Also I tried calling them to negotiate my bill and pay it in full. My mom was going to help me with the payment. But they wouldn't even talk to my mom, even though I gave them a verbal consent to talk to her. And again the lady was very rude that I spoke to. I work in medical billing myself and we will except 5 dollars a month if that's all the patient/guarantor can afford! I feel like thats how it should be everywhere. I don't know if Akron Children's Hospital thinks that because they have great staff that actually work for the hospital that they can take advantage of you in the billing department. But I don't really think that's fair to the customers and that's terrible customer service. The only reason I am going to continue to take my daughter there is because I want what is best for her, and the hospital staff is amazing. But they need to do something about the way they do their billing. The billing department has terrible customer service.

**We've always had the best care from medical staff at ACH. Our complaint digs deep into the issues with the financial counseling and billing department and the governing board. We've had a fair number of medical bills. We've always, 100% of the time, paid our medical debts, and consider ourselves fortunate to only have had to deal with minor medical things. However: earlier this year I emailed Financial Counsel at Akron Children's for an estimate for an evaluation we wanted to do for our son. After a quick, fairly easy call, our estimate was $350. We decided that the cost was worth it to do this proactive eval, and got scheduled in. Weeks passed, and our bill was just under $3K. Nearly 10x what they estimated. So Akron Children's messed up. Admittedly. People in financial counseling said outright "I'd write this off now if I could". The process doesn't work that way, and any disputes go to their board. The board has denied it twice now. This is less about my unwillingness to pay and more about Akron Children's lack of transparency when we did our due diligence (I have the email which states "I want to make sure this is a test we can afford"). Expecting us to foot the bill for something they incorrectly estimated is garbage. I have been duped into a large medical bill when I took all the steps to ensure that wouldn't happen. **UPDATE: I just wanted to revisit this after a call with patient services today, we finally reached an acceptable resolution. I'm thankful to be done with this, and do hope ACH will revise their estimate processes going forward.

Majority of the workers here are full blown incompetent, and are just in it for the paycheck. The rudeness, racist tendencies, lack of empathy for sick patients, you name it. I feel this hospital will be shut down in the near future.

  • 1/5 Jennifer T. 2 years ago on Google
Sent an email over a week ago to patient services/advocate about a pretty big concern and have heard absolutely nothing from Patient Services or the Department that the concern is related to. Definitely feel like the hospital is not looking out for the best interest of my son. "we care for every child that comes through our doors...." Technically true but funny a department has refused to care for my son due to his special needs....hmm....goes against the reported motto of the hospital. I generally do not like to leave public reviews for places but maybe I can get a response this way. No other way has worked.

These drs are insane. 18 day old baby, low fever. Do a spinal tap, don't wait for the results, diagnose with rhino virus...so why the damn spinal tap? Not going to wait for results to diagnose? So what was the point? All about the $$$! I wouldn't take my dog here!

So what's the situation for the parking decks they put in machines and charge everybody how do you get free parking if your child is a patient. The change happened overnight without any signage or warning or details for the families who have a patient in your care. Up until today the provider wouldn't have known to give anybody a free parking pass. The new automated system was sprung on us all your staff included. I feel bad for the parking attendant that had to put up with all the confused parents. Nothing like getting put through another hoop while your family's struggling in the hospital

This hospital is beyond amazing and I'm bummed we never went before now. The pain & frustration could've been avoided. All staff was nice and informative. I never had to chase them down for answers. As soon as they have results they break it down and answer any questions with words we all understand. They check in even after discharge and have so many resources to help every patient. I honestly don't think I have a bad thing to say. So thankful for every person that helped my little girl today. They were AMAZING!

I hate this place. Rude staff. Long wait times. Brought my child for cutting herself & threatening suicide sat in the lobby for hours. Good thing suicide isn't an emergency 🙄 no help was given or offered because my child said they didn't say it. Despite having witnesses. Guess my child's life don't matter. Won't be back again.

Absolutely worst place ever was told to rush here from an urgent care due to an abscess in my sons throat and waited over an hour to be told that if an emergency doesn’t pop up we would be next to go back. I will stick with uh from now on now I’m stuck in this hell hole just to get him antibiotics for the strep throat he tested positive for at the urgent care. They wouldn’t even look at the paperwork from the previous doctor!!!

Akron childrens when my son was in the NICU was amazing. But as he has gotten older it's horrible anytime he gets a test done they make him bleed. The ER is ridiculous with wait times. I waited 3 hours for them to tell me there was 5 people in front of me. Then an hour later still 5 people in front of me. How!!!!! I seen people leave my son was in so much pain. If anyone can recommend a good family Dr outside of children's would be great.
