I love the ambiance of the establishment. Front desk person, Kevin was friendly and helpful with order suggestions. The food was so tasty and flavorful! Portion size of my order fit the price. Authentic PR cuisine is absolutely delicious! I can taste the freshness of the ingredients used in my meal. I don't know what that green stuff was on the side of my meal but my goodness was it so good! Definitely makes you want more! I will certainly be a happy returning customer!

I grew up in Puerto Rico as a child and have been yearning for some food from my youth for MANY years. When I first heard that Secretos was opening up in Pittsburgh, not far from me, I was SO excited. Ordered dinner tonight for my mom, wife and me tonight and…it was so amazingly authentic and nostalgic that we almost cried happy tears. Between the pastelillos, mofongo, pernil, pollo guisado, tostones, maduros, rice and red beans…OMG…so satisfying. If you’ve never tried Puerto Rican food, or haven’t had it in a while, now is the time. You won’t be disappointed.

The food is definitely incredible. I used to come here a lot about a year ago, but I've been trying to try as many new places as possible, which is why I haven't been back in a while. I've been craving their food recently, and since they close at 7 pm, it was a good day to order. I tried their rellenos de papas, pastelitos/empanadas, BYO small bowl with maduros, pollo guisado, rice, and peas, as well as the tres leches. The best food on the menu is the steak I had a while back. It's seriously some of the best steak in the city. And the price is great as well. Compared to that steak, even the more expensive steakhouses can be put to shame. Still, I want to try other items on their menu as well. The BYO small bowl is a pretty great deal. The portion isn't really small; it's enough for a solid meal. The price is right, too. The plantains are sooo good! Probably the best, and definitely one of the best, plantain dishes I've had. The rice and peas is pretty good, but somewhat standard. Pollo guisado is also tasty, and the chicken has a nice texture. There are quite a bit of potatoes. Although the food was very good, I'm still wishing I got the steak again. The empanada was also quite tasty. It's larger than at most places and quite crispy. There's a beef and chicken option, and I chose chicken. It was still moist and flavorful on the inside. Overall, very solid. The papas rellenos (first time trying them) were also quite good. There's not that much meat, but the potato outside is flavorful and quite creamy. I especially like the outer shell. Their tres leches is delicious. You can tell it's homemade. There's a generous dusting of cinnamon on top as well. The cake is light, while also being creamy, sweet, and all around authentic as well as delicious. I couldn't make it in person today, so I ordered online. I will say, it's definitely a lot better to order pickup directly. That way, the prices are decreased significantly (it's almost $7/empanada or papa relleno on Uber Eats, which is quite expensive). All in all, would highly recommend this place. The food is high quality and seems authentic. There's something for nearly everybody. Someday I'll come back for some more of that amazing steak, tres leches, and plantains!

Fantastic Puerto Rican Food! We had the pleasure of having an event catered in the past and can’t say enough great things about the food and the service. So when we had family in town to visit, we took them out to eat at Secretos. We will continue to support this restaurant and Felipe (the owner) every chance we get.

Secretos de Mis Abuelos now has a small restaurant now in Uptown up from the arena. I’ve been to the food truck and it was very good but a little out of the way from where I live. The restaurant seems to have a larger standard menu with entrees. My wife and I went for take out hoping for the best not knowing how the change would be from food truck to restaurant. I ordered the Mofongo with Camerones guisados and maduros and my wife ordered the pernil, arroz con gandules and tostones. Everything was delicious. I haven’t had Mofongo since I was last in Puerto Rico in 2018. It was fantastic and was more than enough to fill me up. Whenever I’m in PR, I think I eat Mofongo just about every day that I can. His made me think I was in the island if not for the temperature outside. The pernil was excellent and the arroz con gandules was the closest to my mother in law’s that I’ve had outside of PR. We will certainly be back.

Authentic Puerto Rican food just minutes from Duquesne University. We had the “create your own” where you can pick from a preparation of Arroz con Habichuela, Arroz con Gandules, or Mofongo (rice and pink beans / rice and pigeon peas / smashed plantains shaped into a bowl, respectively) then add your protein like pork, shrimp, chicken, or steak lastly, you pick a side. I got the Mofongo with carne frita, and Madurai. It was delicious and just like my wife’s Puerto Rican grandmother made! Definitely hitting this place up again.

This review was difficult for me because there were a lot of factors I wasn’t expecting that ended up effecting it. First of all I want to say the staff was super nice and friendly and I had a nice time eating here. I ordered the pulled pork based on recommendation from the guy taking my order. The pictured food is the chimichurri steak with rice and beans, which my brother ordered. What I didn’t like so much about my experience was the amount I paid for the quality and quantity of food I received. I think the food was good, but not great and a bit too salty (and I rarely say this because I love salt lol). The other three people I was with agreed; it was simply over-seasoned. As for the price, I ordered the build-your-own dish for both me and my girlfriend and then decided to go back to get us two side salads. The side salads were in a very small container and I ended up paying $12 dollars for a little bit of lettuce and a couple slices of tomato. I paid a total of $45 for the two of us and that didn’t even include a drink (we were very thirsty after eating the salty food). I understand the prices of food are rising, and I have no problem paying if the food I receive is worth it, but unfortunately in my honest opinion the food I received did not match the price that I paid. I saw the reviews and pictures online before coming, and was excited to get my fix of Latin food, but I don’t feel as if though this place lived up to the ratings that it currently has. I unfortunately need to be honest in my assessment, so for now I’m going to have to go with three stars. This was a difficult review but our hungry party of four reached a mutual consensus and landed on this. Maybe I’ll return and give this place another try in the future. I will say that if you’re in the area, and you’re craving Latin food, this is still a worthy restaurant to fulfill those needs, just don’t expect to be blown away for the price.

Small tucked away on Fifth Ave is this amazing Puerto Rican eatery. Build your own meal consists of a base, a protein and a side. Luncheon portions also available. Tried the pork with plantains and yellow rice with peas. Very filling and delicious! Had tres letche for dessert. Very good. Menu to expand soon to include tacos. Check out their daily specials. Well worth a visit !

$70 dollars worth of food, not one Hispanic cooked it. Presentation was absolutely terrible. A sit down meal served in Styrofoam. Not only do you not get your monies worth, but the puerto rican flavor is completely absent. We ate because we were starving and traveled a long way expecting 4 plus stars. It deserves none for the price

Secretos is a Puerto Rican restaurant conveniently located near downtown. Since I wanted to try something different, I had a taste for some Caribbean food. The location is walking distance from my job, so I was able to place an order online then pick up the order once it’s ready. Most of the dishes here are delicious. The only thing I have a problem with is how they fry their Maduro (plantains). Every time I order the Maduro they cook them black. Fried Maduro is not supposed to be black. They taste like they’re cooked in reused grease. I even asked to have the plantains cooked in fresh grease but they were still cooked black on more than 1 occasion. As a foodie who travels, my experience eating food on the island was completely different. The whole meal including the plantains were cooked in fresh oil and served exceptionally. Here it’s a different experience. Before I got a make your own bowl with pollo (chicken) rice and peas, and fried plantains. The plantains were dark. This time I ordered the 3 tacos special with 1 side. When it comes to tacos, rice should be optional. It was not an option for the special. Madurai (fried plantains), tostones(twice fried plantains ) yuca frites (fries) and salad were the only options on the menu for the special. I didn’t want to order plantains from here again because they would not be cooked to a golden brown, but that’s normally my second option with island food. The tacos were good but the plantains could’ve been cooked with more care and new cooking oil. Here are photos below. I suggest that management has a discussion and retrains their team on how often to change the oil before frying certain foods. You can see and taste the difference between food cooked with old grease and newly changed vegetable oil.
