It doesn't get much better for me as a Rockville resident. Enjoy a Sunday of ice skating in the square and then sit down to some delicious grilled meats, and fresh Japanese cuisine. They have a new sushi and sashimi menu which I could not help but try. You don't have to worry about consistency (at least for the grilled meat), since you are the chef! There is no need to get the waygu or more expensive cuts, as even the hanger steak, gyuzo steak, and skirt steak all taste fantastic. Alternating between the three sauces keeps the taste buds excited and asking for more. Two out of the three times I went, the servers were very friendly and talkative. One of the times the young man was not very attentive and did not brush oil onto the grill grate, but typically the service is great.

1st experience at a Japanese BBQ. It exceeded expectations. Quality of food. , flavors , service are top notch. Great energy and vibe. Great for dates, family or group of friends. Pricing can vary from $$-$$$$.

Definitely the best Japanese BBQ that I’ve tried in the DMV area. Portions are smaller and reasonably priced. The ambiance is upbeat and the interior has a really sleek design. Definitely call ahead, as it can get pretty crowded through Thursday to Sunday.

So far the best Japanese BBQ in DMV. Our waitress was super. The decor of the restaurant is impressive. The quality of the food were pretty good. We ordered Komu-Subi for 2 people.

I love this place. The food and the ambiance are superb, and the service is also great. Definitely recommend this place. The lotus chips are crispy and really great. The Dynamite shrimp was delicious. All the barbecue items were great. The oreo cheesecake was very nice, not too sweet but perfect taste. The only thing was the sushi, which was okay, but other than that, all the food items were delicious. I definitely recommend this restaurant, but be mindful as it is on the expensive side.

I love this place! They never disappoint. The ambience is amazing. The staff are really wholesome and welcoming. The food comes quick and there’s a guide to grilling to make sure your meat tastes the best. Their bbq is tasty but so is there other appetizers and entrees. Came here for a birthday once and they offered a free tiramisu + look at that sparkler!!

As a Asian dude who’s really into Japanese BBQ, I always enjoy eating in Gyuzo. I’ve been to Japan for several times and I would say this is one of the most AUTHENTIC Japanese BBQ in the area… or even in the States! The lunch and dinner set totally worth it. With a reasonable price you can get a decent amount of food with high quality. Meat is super fresh and grill is super hot. Other than that, I also like the squid fried rice and the seafood ramen there. I would recommend making reservations ahead since they are very popular especially on the weekends.

The best Wagyu steak I’ve ever had. It’s very pricy but it’s really good. My son loved it. The server told me that the wagyu beef is grade 5 which is the highest grade. The appetizers are great. The mussels is a little spicy for me but it’s good. I liked the soft shell crab. The fried chicken is kind of plain. The mochi dessert that we cooked is interesting. The mochi cubes are hard, once we cooked them they start to puffed up. Then you dip them in honey. The server had to cook the wagyu for us, I guess they didn’t want to risk we might over cook it.

What can I say!!! The food here is AMAZING!!! The taste is JUST RIGHT. Everything is just enough seasoning . Customer service is also wonderful. They very polite, attentive to customers and I feel like they really know what I like and want and attend to it well. I’m super surprised considering so many places I tried, I didn’t have high expectations for here either . The drinks are also good. Enough amount of alcohol for mojito and cocktails. I LOOOVE THEIR LIMITED WHISKEY!!! Couldn’t find it anywhere else but here!! Worth the price. I recommend you try the limited whiskey shot here with ice. It’s in my picture. The manager will know what you talking about when you show my picture. I’m from houston and a huge food lover and I love the drinks here as well as the food! I recommend you try and let me know what you think ! Hope y’all enjoy it as much as I did! Talks to Joseph the manager if you have questions

Absolutely AMAZING service as always! We had a super attentive and sweet server named Logan! He was very quick to deliver food with a lovely smile on his face and he even helped my fiancé surprise me with a chocolate mousse cake slice (Absolutely Must Try!) Food was 11/10 as always. Clean tables and wait staff quick to clean as you finish plates to give you space. We ordered the “Enho” for $158 and it was worth every buck, the duck breast was perfect to balance out the amount of beef. Also had some uni (not my thing) but I love the amount of food options they have here and it’s an absolute great date spot! THANK YOU LOGAN FOR MAKING OUR EXPERIENCE LOVELY!❤️

Everything was just great! The waitress was very friendly and explained everything we needed to know. We took the 85$ meal for 2 and the food was delicious! The fact you can make your own meat the way you want it was really nice. Overall, an amazing experience! Highly recommended!

I've tried several delicious dishes, but my go-to meal will always be the gyoza ramen in beef broth with short rib meat! The top two favorite appetizers so far would be the dynamite shrimp and the short rib sushi tacos. The sauce and seasoning for the dynamite shrimp are immaculate. If you're going in during the weekend or for the evening on weekdays, I recommend making a reservation or calling for a wait time just to make sure you get seated with your group. I have yet to try cooking my own food on their hibachi grill table. I hope you try this place out and enjoy your meal as much as I did!

I ordered set of Sushi Bento $20, that you can should 2 kinds of sushi and one kind of meat, includes salad and miso soup. I think it was a good deal. I chose spicy tuna rolls and salmon rolls. The tuna one was giant than I thought, that was nice and delicious, but the salmon one was tiny and not much flavors. The salad and miso soup as good as the standard. As for meat, I chose Prime Rib that I had to add $4 (most of choices free as such pork or chicken), It was super tender but that all, didn't taste much (maybe I am not an expert of beef) and quite pricey, only tiny 6 slices. I also ordered Dynamite shrimp ($10) for appetizer, it was yummy and good portion. My friends tried Japanese curry rice with pork ($12) that was quite small portion (more rice than curry and pork) and chicken spicy miso ramen ($14). I didn't know if they good, I didn't try them. So no comment about that. Anyway I like environment and decoration inside the restaurant and the staff who served us, super friendly and great service. She offered some dessert for my friend who came here for celebrating her birthday right away, that made everything turn the tide at the end. Overall it was a nice meal though, I will try them again. Maybe they are better known for BBQ style than regular food.

We had the A5 Miyazaki cube wagyu beef, short rib wagyu, wagyu rice, dynamite shrimp, and the premium bbq plate. High quality meats paired with great servers. It gets pricey but the taste and entire experience is well worth the money.

Second time around, we got the Komu-Subi again. Nice selection of various cuts of beef. All of the side dishes are also very delicious. They added tasty dipping sauces since the first time we went which is a nice extra addition. We also tried the flavored salt this time and all three were really good! But the star of tonight’s dinner was the sweet shrimp and caviar soba noodles that was served in an ice bowl (which I didn’t even notice until after I had finished the noodles as the bowl had started to melt). So cool!!!

This place is super great!! The service is amazing and the dining environment is super clean and modern. There is indoor and outdoor dining— but inside the AC is quite strong. The food is really delicious, and there are lots of options for appetizers, as well as the BBQ. There are more meat options, but it is easy to ask for vegetarian options, such as the fried lotus which I would definitely recommend. At the end, we received complimentary matcha mochi ice cream, which was great! I would recommend this place!

Oh my! I had such an awesome experience here. I had never been to a Japanese BBQ. The service was pleasant and the food was soooo good it made me smile during and after every bite. The atmosphere and music was perfect 🥰 for me and my friend. I look forward to going to more like this. Thank you for the excellent food and service during my visit.

A very wonderful experience. Got to try an assortment of items from the Hakuho for 6 people, A5 striploin, yaki udon and beef teppan rice. Not a cheap meal for 8 people by any means but a wonderful experience but made even better by our server Leah (sp?). She was constantly checking up on us ensuring that we had everything we needed, cooked our A5 to perfection while also training 1 to 2 employees. The mussels that came with the Hakuho were plump and juicy while the butter sauce was delicious enough that we ordered more bread and it was poured over my rice. The various cuts of meats were wonderfully marinated and flavorful, honestly more so than the pork which was still delicious. They even surprised someone in our party with a oreo cheesecake topped with a sparkler that came out of a long tub for that special effect. Wonderfully presented. An excellent place for that special dinner.

I come here often with friends and family members as it has always been a very fine dining jbbq experience. The atmosphere is sophisticated, resulting in a cozy setting for a memorable dining experiences. The premium marinated meats sizzled to perfection, sending forth delicious scents that increased the excitement for every mouthful. Social aspect of grilling at the table created a lively mood and added an element of excitement to the meal. Lastly, a big thank you to our server Eugene. He was a very polite and informed staff, who gave flawless service to go along with the delicious food.

We went as a group and with kids, and despite their best efforts, we had an incredible time. The service was friendly and considerate, the atmosphere was great, and the food was the best! Everything we tried was delicious, and its presentation really made the food look and feel special. I know it sounds crazy, but we actually ordered 2 rounds of miso soup because it was that good. Cocktails were great also. I'd recommend this restaurant to anyone without any reservations about doing so

We have not eaten Japanese style BBQ, Yakiniku since this February we went to Tokyo, so we were excited to come here to eat!! We wondered if we should order the set menu or not, but this time we chose several individual plates al la carte. We love the premium ribeye and outside skirt especially. They gave us 3 different sauces, veggie sauce plus wasabi one, soy sauce based one and miso based one. In Japan, it is common to eat with soy sauce based one so it is familiar for us. The other 2 sauces were new for us but still good. The atmosphere and the interior of the store was very nice like an upscale stake house. We noticed 2 big differences. First, most of Yakiniku BBQ restaurants in Japan have ventilations or fans above us, so the smell keeps on us after we go out from there but we noticed that Gyuzo has ventilations in the stoves, so we do not have to care about the smell!! Second, the volume of the fire is slightly weaker than the restaurants in Japan, so it takes a little more time to grill meat, but probably it is because of the safety protocol difference. In Japan, we can cook meat faster but sometimes the fire gets bigger due to the meat fat and we need to use the ice cube. When customers come in, the employees all say Irasshaimase(the Japanese common welcoming word), so it is nice to hear here as well. And they take care of us really well. It seems sometimes they come to check each table for the fire adjustment. Over all, we like the restaurant.

This is my new favorite restaurant in Maryland. So far, everything on the menu is scrumptious. In my experience, this is a Japanese take on Korean BBQ. Kim, one of the servers, took care of me so well that I'm at a loss for words for how amazing she is. She was polite, excited, joyful, knowledgeable... She helped me find exactly the types of foods that would best suit my palate and then cooked it all for me to my liking (She said the servers can do this when it is less busy). The foods I went with were the ones without noodles. I went during off peak hours because I was searching for a new place to try, after having jury duty at the Circuit Court. I am so glad I found this place. I'm coming back with an entourage (in small and different friendship groups because a lot of us are still being careful). I took some photos of the menu, the suggestions, and of Kim being absolutely amazing at taking care of me. Thanks, Kim, for making my first time at Gyuzo an Epic experience to remember!

If you don’t mind paying a high price for small portions of meat to cook at a place like Gyuzo Japanese, then I’d say that it would be a good place to take your date out. However, to all of you vegetarians out there, I can gladly say that their Korean salad and peppers are pretty good courtesy of the person whom I say next to on a Friday night. While I would appreciate it if Gyuzo served fried tofu and maybe okonomiyaki, all in all, it was a fun experience visiting the restaurant. I think that I’ll let my boyfriend from Tennessee try it out himself since he’s a meat and beer sort of person. Though he has gone vegan one time. Otherwise, I do love the service here, especially when the bar tender gave me a friendly wink. I guess he thought that I was feeling lonely that night. I know that he was just doing his job so I take no offense to the action.

Wow! Amazing food and atmosphere. This has got to be my favorite Japanese BBQ. The appetizers, the soft shell crab, gyuzo shumai and chicken karagee were to die for. The soft shell crab was perfectly made and came with a yummy sauce. The gyuzo shumai was so filling and absolutely delicious, you need to try it! The chicken karagee reminded me of a chick-fil-a style chicken but even better. For the main course I had the A5 Short Rib Waygu which came with a delicious truffle salt that you should put on your waygu as you eat it. The duck was perfect! And the gyuzo steak was made in the most flavorsome marinade that you must try! Overall I had a wonderful and deliciously filling dinner here, this is a perfect place for a date. It's always crowded so make sure that you have a reservation or you might miss out!
