When it comes to a typical village in the Red River delta region, Duong Lam should be the first one to pop up in your mind. All the typical images, from banyan trees, wells, communal house and village gate can be found in this tranquil and nostalgic village.

The village itself was fine but nothing spectacular. Ancient is also not a word I would use to describe this place in anyway. The gate at the entrance was made in the 19th century and the oldest building we saw was made in the 1600s. On top of that there were many paved roads and lots of modern houses/villas and items like smartphones, synthetic bowls/plates, and modern shops throughout selling common brands like Lays or Cheetos. At no point did I think I was in an ancient village. Additionally, what we saw wasn't even that great, a place like Pompei was immeasurably cooler and more enjoyable. There were a couple temples that were kind of neat and the outside of a church which was fine. And an "ancient" doorway or two. Not really anything you can't see right in Hanoi or Saigon. So be prepared to visit a small, mostly modernized town with average sites. Also, lots of things are closed on Sundays it seems. This place is not worth the 1.5 hour drive each way from Hanoi.

Arrived here during lunch time and it was very silent, almost no one around while I was walking. There are already modern establishments but you can still see a significant number of old structures (houses, temples, walls, streets). I finally saw tourists around the Mong Phu communal hall area. There are a couple of ancient houses (ngoc ha) that are open to the public and I was able to visit one and met the kind owners who let me inside and gave me tea :-) The locals I met here are really nice. I was expecting the possibility that I might be scammed (like in some tourist spots) but it didn't happen. To commute to this place from the Hanoi center, ride bus 34 + bus 92.

Chiko DuongLam is a coffee shop with the combination of traditional and modern. This is an ideal destination and not to be missed when traveling Duong Lam.

According to the sightseeing guide, Duong Lam scenery reminds her of her groundmother's hometown. I think this village is suitable to feel Vietnamese countryside. It's really comfortable.

Peaceful & ancient village with beautiful old houses. The village still belongs to Hanoi but in the suburbs. Good destination which is close to the downtown of Hanoi for some interesting experience about local life and ancient architecture as well historical aspects

👍👍 We had the time of our lives exploring northern Vietnam on a motor bike from RentABike in Ha Noi! Two of us shared a bike with two bags and it was tight but comfortable.
