Food was decent but the service was terrible. Waited 45 mins after ordering for our appetizer to come out and then another 20 for our food. Felt like a slap in the face when people placing take out orders next to us were told it would be a ten minute wait for a similar order. Servers just stood and chatted in the back of the restaurant and didn't check in at all. Dropped our food off but didn't drop off any plates? I had to stare them down each time to get any kind of service. I eat out fairly often and usually never have any problem but I can say this has been the worst experience I've had. Can I rate this restaurant with more than 5 Stars? The whole experience for me was fantastic!!! From the moment we walked in the door we were greeted! We sat at the sushi bar and we were lucky enough to meet the owner Kenny! I also had the opportunity to experience awesome sushi by Josh! Our server Faith was also awesome as she stayed on top of our orders! I have been to many Sushi restaurants and boy let me tell you…this place is hands down the BEST I’ve had so far! We left most of our order up to the chef and everything he prepared was super delicious! My FAVE was the Sashimi! The next time I visit Santa Cruz, Sushi Totoro will be my first stop! The little hole in the wall with a HUGE heart!!!

Great sushi place with an adorable theme. Gets crowded pretty quickly and sometimes the staff takes awhile to get to you but I’m glad the place is so busy. The sushi is great and definitely one of the fav places EVER

Delicious! I called ahead to see if they could accommodate a group of 7, when we arrived the tables were set and ready for us. Excellent service and the food was SO good. If I visit Santa Cruz again I will definitely make a stop at Sushi Totoro!

Very good sushi rolls, even if they're not the most traditional. The fried sushi rolls are amazing, and the normal one is too. They don't have a ton of tables, but they are very well staffed so the service is very good, and they even give a free bowl of miso for you we hen you sit down. The decor is also very fun and the atmosphere is casual and good

LOVE!!! One of my favorite sushi joints in Santa Cruz so far! Tried the Lion roll, dragon roll, and two others and all were so generous with their toppings/fillings. Everything tasted super fresh as well! Also loved the ambiance, and I was super stoked to see the amazing studio ghibli-inspired mural. Takeout was easy and was still in perfect shape after a car ride. So excited to come back and try some more rolls!

The staff was really nice and sushi was so good they also gave us delicious 🤤 fried Oreos since it was our birthday 🎉

Fantastic birthday dinner. We are not from the area, but worth a trip if you are in town. Great vibe, excellent service and delicious sushi.

Sushi was ok. The rolls looked different and pretty, but all kinda tasted the same. I did kinda like the thinner sliced sizes, but it did make hard them to stay together. Staff was nice. Sake was way too hot to drink or pick up. I had not been here in years.

Nice spot with a nice lil theme to it. They have plenty of Vegetarian options which can be modified to a vegan option.

We love this place. From the friendly and helpful staff (they'll call to confirm your online order, and call back if they get it done quicker!) to the wide range of options. Even my picky 12 year old finds favorites because the online menu lets you customize to your heart's desire. Plus, their Agedashi (crispy tofu) is crispy and perfect, which I don't find often. We keep coming back over and over!

Stopped by Totoro on a Friday afternoon for a late lunch after hiking at Wilder Ranch State Park. Sushi rolls were excellent. Good service and nice selection of rolls. Sushi chef is very friendly. Lion and Crunch rolls were fantastic. Lots of sushi to choose from in Santa Cruz but you can’t go wrong here.

We've been going to sushi Totoro for 20 some years now. I'm guessing it's changed ownership over these years?? Whoever is running it now is doing a top-notch job. Service is excellent, miso soup is absolutely delicious, and sushi is so fresh and wonderful. Easy to understand menu with great choices. It is a small cozy restaurant and don't let the small strip mall atmosphere turn you off. You'll have a great lunch or dinner!

I cannot believe it's taken me so long to write a review for this place. THIS restaurant is the place to go for sushi in Santa Cruz. I've been going here for a little over two years now and it's absolutely the only place I go anymore for sushi. Incredible service, fresh fish, and just the most delicious rolls you've ever had. The fish melts in your mouth and basically the whole menu is delicious. The only thing I'd say is the miso soup is a bit overly salty, but that's never been a problem for me. Can't recommend Sushi Totoro ENOUGH! GO HERE!!

This used to be my favorite spot for sushi. Their rolls were amazing. Lately service been terrible. I gave it 3 chances because maybe the waitress was having a bad day. But all 3 times were the same. They throw the food on the table. When you ask for anything they get annoyed (e.g. sharing plates that should already be given) they don’t check in at all. Been very rude lately. It’s terrible I hate that this sushi spot is ruined for me. And sushi rolls were not as good This time at all They tasted very different one of the rolls tasted so off like some ingredient was bad

The delivery went quick, but everything was nightmare. No utensils, bad food quality, less say sauce and all of those roll crushed. I should have just ordered poke house.

Excellent sushi and rolls - staff was very focused on pick-up / to-go orders vs dining in customers (-1 star). Might be a better service experience if you sit at the sushi bar...

I ordered one deep fried roll and waited 20 minutes. I heard the workers talking about my order and seemed like it was lost. I didn’t mind waiting, but the roll tasted like it was rushed and pulled from the fryer too fast. It wasn’t crunchy but soft. I would’ve appreciated if they could’ve communicated what happened and get my food cooked all the way. The workers seemed nice and the lemonade I slid for was huge. Maybe just a bad night? Idk if I’ll try again.
