The perfect location right across from the beach. We opted for a family room for two adults plus a small dog. It was spacious for us. The room had everything we needed specifically in the kitchen. The deck is just beautiful to sit out on. We watched whales playing in the ocean from there - the perfect view. They also have umbrellas and chairs that can be borrowed to take to the beach. Bonus points for being pet-friendly however there is not really a garden so the dog isn’t free to walk around outside unattended. The only problem is the parking lot is very small so can be tricky with a bigger car. Also sometimes having to park others in and then get woken up to move the car is not ideal. Overall a lovely stay - I would definitely recommend it. I will be back for sure.

An absolute paradise! I love the vibe, the staff, the people and most of all... Drum roll... How close it is to the shore! It's unbelievable and worth every penny. The deck is amazing to enjoy with friends or alone. The entire space is magnificent! I recommend it to all who desire a beautiful vacation or a simple getaway!

Lovely stay, close to the beach and walking distance from plenty of good eatery's , room is basic but we are not there to spend time in the room. Only complaint was the mattress was to soft.

The place is alright, Jeff was a great host. The view from the deck is very nice. The best thing about this place is that the beach is literally across the road. You can hear the ocean roaring from inside your unit. The beach is very beautiful and peaceful. Excellent location, we'll probably come back in the future and will sure to recommend it to others.

Beautiful place. We spent one night there as a getaway and the environment and the set up was just perfect. We spoke to the acting manager for quite a while and almost missed checkout because we were so invested in the conversation! The little deck overlooking the ocean is such a beautiful place to unwind and relax, and the little bar underneath is perfect. We were a little fooled by the pictures on Airbnb, its definitely a little cosier than it looks but this only took away from it very slightly, and the hosts are not even to blame! This experience actually added moving to Umdloti to my 5 or 10 year plan haha, can't get enough of it! I have nothing but positive remarks for the place

I had a lovely stay at Surf Motel. I loved the close proximity to the beach, restaurants and shops. My main concern was the use of a manual gate, if you can get it motorized.

Enjoyed the stay thoroughly. The room was basic but very clean and spacious. Amazing Location and view from the communal deck. Will definitely be back.

Location is good Chose this place because of close proximity to the airport and the pictures looked good but the pictures was clearly deceiving ,I was really disappointed with our chalet, place was really old and in need of urgent upgrades, chalet had a very strong odour and everything was really old besides the TV.

We enjoyed our stay! Room was comfortable, we slept well and woke up to the sound of the ocean! Staff were very helpful and friendly from the initial enquiry to the end of the tay. l definitely recommend!

We had a short vacay here and we loved it. Being so close to the beach and the local shops and restaurants at such a reasonable price. We will definitely be back here for a longer stay! The rooms are neat, and cleaned daily. The public deck has an amazing view and the staff are so lovely!

To wake up to the waves crash and when you open your cabin door and see beautiful white and yellow flowers greet on your door step. To be able to have your morning coffee on the deck while watching the sun rise over the ocean....Surf Motel is the place to be! Clean apartment, friendly staff, safe enough to take a stroll at night to the pub just a couple doors away or a walk along the shore at 5 am, this is my new Home away from Home. I loved it.

The location is perfect - just across the beach and few minutes walk from the shops and restaurants. It was great that the accommodation was pet friendly so we could stay with our two dogs. The apartment is bright and modern and conveniently furnished and the balcony has an amazing view on the ocean. Only issue we had with the apartment was that it wasn't very clean.

With the booking and logistical arrangements, all was relatively fine. On arrival, I managed to find my way around by reading the information that was provided electronically when doing the booking. When I made a call to the manager to locate the keys, it was my fault in that I didn't read the information brochure. The turn off was around the dogs that came from the chalet 3rd of 4th from the left hand side of the entrance . I did not expect to be confronted by dogs from one of the tenants as if I was entering a private residence instead of a B & B OR Motel.

What we liked about this place is the location, you can't get closer to the see than this. Prime spot. Conveniently close to walk to restaurants as well. The shalet had everything we needed. Daily serviced by staff was a huge treat. The best of all its a pet friendly place. We could take our pooch with us on holiday. The Beach Motel can be recommended to anyone looking for a nice getaway close to the beach. We drove down because of our dog but it would make a lot of sense to fly down as the airport is a mere 7km's away.

Staff is friendly and good service. Place needs maintenance. Windows have no latch. Bathroom bedroom. Stove plates are rusted. Shower door bottom rusted. SUN deck needs maintenance, needs good paint 🎨. Bedding is old. In General place needs maintenance 🙄

My stay at Surf Motel with my boyfriend was absolutely amazing! Our room was a 10 second walk from the car park, and the beautiful deck that overlooks the ocean and the beach. Everything we needed was right there, and being able to fall asleep and wake up to the sound of the waves crashing was so relaxing. Surf Motel is located in the perfect area for someone wanting to relax. We walked across the road and we were on the beach, you walk a couple a minutes and there are shops, restaurants and a garage, which isn't something you can normally do, walk on the road with no problem. Jeff was lovely, and we chatted about the 40 ships we could count on the sea. Check in and out was super easy and convenient. And we are looking forward to stay here again. Definitely a must for people that want to feel like they're actually on a beach vacay!

Ntando was sweet enough to allow us to check in early.... I just hope she can work on her patience when talking with the guests when they arrive (especially when one is not understanding what she's saying) , and getting off the video call would probably work for the better too.

Response on queries were quickly and efficiently answered. On our arrival we were shown to a very neat and clean unit. Grounds are clean and neat and the best feature is the deck! We shall definitely be returning to the Surf Motel!

The surf motel, is a great place whether you want a beach vacation or just even to clear your mind, be away from the city life. You feel refreshed. The staff all friendly and very accommodating. Definitely will be back🙌

Surf Motel is a great place to unwind and relax. it is right on the beach. all amenities are provided, including beach umbrellas and deck chairs, and all restaurants and shops are within walking distance and only a 10 minute drive to Umhlanga. really enjoyed our time there and hope to be able to go back.

Fantastic spot right on the beach at Umhloti - it’s a home away from home and so quiet and safe. Easy off road parking for each cabin is convenient too. Great wifi.

I have been contacting this establishment for months to make a booking for the Dec break and only to be told that they only open their bookings at end DEC. They cannot even give rates. This means that you need to HANG AROUND in fond hopes that they will be able to assist you while everything else gets fully booked. Most stupid system I have ever encountered. We are in 2022 not 1970..............

I always stay at the Surf Motel when I'm in Durban- the staff are friendly and welcoming, the rooms are comfortable and clean, and the view of the ocean is wonderful. I thoroughly recommend it!

Surf Motel is a great experience. The location makes it cozy yet still within walking distance from the local pub and restaurants along the beautiful coastline. It was my second time here and I opted for a bigger room this time and it was clean. No dust and pretty much came kitted with everything you'd need, stay long enough and you might even consider living there. I enjoyed the amenities provided and actually made use of the braai stand provided for a little shisanyama away from home. I do have one concern and this is why I gave only 4 stars. During our stay, the family in the room adjacent to ours had brought a dog with them. I personally like dogs and during the day the dog wasn't actually a problem but at around 7 when it got dark, the dog became very unfriendly and lept up to attack both times we walked past it. The dog was on a leash and but the family were seated right across the path they also struggled to hold the dog back, that coupled with the loud barking really spoiled the experience for me. You really need to review your rules around letting people bring viscious dogs onto the property or atleast restrict where these dogs can be kept.

We had a great stay, everything was spotless. Reception messaged us all the details for a late last minute arrival, they where great. Cute area for sundowners and also a great braai area for big groups. Would definitely stay again

A great location, friendly staff and people. It is literally next to the beach. You can just cross a small street and you on the beach. Staff were very friendly and most accommodating. Comfortable stay.

It has everything that you need, but the cleanliness of the overall unit was not great. We had bugs from our second night in the beds, and on top of the cupboards it was dusty with lots of dead bugs alongside a few cockroaches that were running around. We were very happy to have an aircon in the main bedroom, but a fan was only provided on the last evenings stay for the other 2 single beds. It is great that you provide beach umbrellas and chairs, they maybe just need a maintenance now and then. The staff were very friendly and helpful in any ways we needed it! Thank you for that! It is a great location to stay at, close to everything, just a few small things that makes a huge difference.

I have found my spot, when I need a trip to tge coast for total and utter rest and relaxation. The unit 3 rondaval is perfect for my teenagers and I. Everything one needs is there! Staff exceptionally helpful, the establishment is well run and clean. The only complaint I have is the sewage in the street currently, but that's out of the establishments control!
