We had so much fun here. My daughter loved it so much and can't wait to go back. There is so much for the kids to play with and learn about aviation and history. I had fun too, lots to read as you go around. Staff are helpful and knowledgeable.

Pretty neat museum!! Should be a prefect visit place for military geek. (Unluckily I am not ;)) Two hangers of aircrafts which offers in-cabin tour. With easy-to-understand, Australian aviation history notes on site. The best part is the tour notes has Chinese citation. The entry is a bit pricey but you can purchase great(cheap) second hand aircraft book inside.

Nice collection of aircraft. I liked how you got to go inside lots of the planes! It was a really hot day, and the main warehouse has cooling - which was a bonus :) We went here after the railway museum as it is next door and we got a discount for going to this museum after the railway museum.

If you're an aviation nut like me you'll love this place. Good collection of aircraft over two hangars. Enough to keep you busy for a few hours and a well stocked gift shop including models and books.

I brought my plane obsessed 2yr old son with me and we were there an hour. To be thorough, you would probably want to allow up to 2-3hrs. (3hrs for the enthusiast) Presented very well, staff are lovely and there are small plane ride-ons for kids 4 and under which my son adored getting about on.

As an aviation enthusiast, I was excited to visit and flew all the way from Melbourne to see it. And I loved every bit of the museum, it had all the aircraft's that I wanted to see especially the famed F111 fighter. The volunteer staff there were so good, knowledgeable and helpful in assisting us to get the most out of the displays. Well worth a visit even if you are not an aviation buff, as it so educational.

Great value for money. 2 hangars full of planes and other related displays. 2 hours wasn't enough to explore and learn all there is. Well maintained displays. Very informative. The staff/guides were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Model kits and other souvenirs available in the shop for a reasonable price. Great place to visit for families, for young and older enthusiasts. Well done!!

Fun for the whole family and not expensive. We were able to look inside different planes and helicopters. Children under 4 are allowed to use an aeroplane pusher cart which I give a 10/10, my youngest loved it. There was lots of history in the 2 hangers and I recommend coming to check it out. Good place to bring children who may be sensitive of hearing, there wasn't many people there so no lines or waiting turns. Due to covid some aircraft's are closed to sit in and play with, this did not affect our experience.

It's great to be able to see planes from so close and more importantly, from the inside. They are mainly war planes, no commercial ones. A bit far from the city but pretty easy to get there. You can even take a look at how they repair certain planes.

Full of hidden aviation gems, like a genuine piece of the Red Baron’s shot down triplane. Lots of hands on exhibits, military / civilian / exploratory, curated & engineered by people with an obvious love of all things aviation. Exceptionally worth a few hours

AN INCREDIBLE MUSEUM! One of the cheapest places I've been to, relative to what you get. So much interactive experience and things to do. Climbing inside the planes is such an amazing experience and a unique one too. Nicest people work here too. Couldn't recommend more highly

Visited in July 2022. Loved the new addition the F18 Hornet alongside the F-111. Of course loved the Spitfire. Volunteers are nice . The Aircraft's are in 2 hangers. And also some engines and other aviation stuff and information on the first floor. Some of the aircraft's are open to people to climb inside. Cockpits are closed and only will be opened with guided tours. This museum is next to the Railway museum in Port Adelaide. Loved the place and the aircrafts.

A very impressive collection of planes. Exceptionally well laid out with a lot of very interesting memorabilia and info boards to read. A highlight was being able to go inside the large military planes and get a sense of what it was like to be a part of history. Spent 2 hours there, could have spent 2 more. Lots of interesting video stories. Children could be pushed around in mini planes. Fantastico!

Fantastic aviation museum, with a good focus on SA aviation aspects. Lots of info about Marlinga & Woomera, plus info about testing. Lots of aircraft to enter and inspect, plus options to sit in cockpits. Good sections about specific SA aviators. Comprehensive selection of 2nd hand aviation books that are no longer in print. Highly recommend a visit if you have any interest in aviation.

Yes, this place is worth a visit. I love the seeing a range of aircrafts on display with remarkable history. I also get to hear and feel being inside those aircrafts. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. It is located a few blocks away from other museums.

Friendly and knowledgeable team available to answer all questions. Great detail in displays and history for South Australia as well as international. Small pain point is being told of the planes to walk through but very little engagement once on them - all locked off and expensive payment to sit in cockpit areas.

Very cool museum. The exhibits are interesting with displays that explain the them, and you can even go into the cockpits of some planes for free. There is a recently opened hangar with more planes. The entrance also lets you buy some model planes.

What a great place to visit. It was so clean and well laid out. Entry was reasonably priced that a family can afford to go there for a nice little day trip and the staff were friendly. You are able to climb into some of the aircraft and see how they are set up on the inside and as a bonus you can organise a tour of the cockpit of some of them if you're interested. Their museum had some very interesting local history on world wars, aircraft and flight histories and a section dedicated to women in aviation. There was even a small section on the rockets of Woomera. If you visit here, make sure you leave a whole day and take a brochure from the counter giving you a discount to the other local museums such as the railway and maritime museums. With a local brewery just down the street it was a really great way to end the afternoon.

What an amazing place! Much more inside than expected and great demonstrations and exhibits! The kids (5 and 2 yrs old) were mesmerised by the interactive displays. The staff are also friendly and ready for a chat. The spitfire and the fighter jets were a favourite, with my daughter also loving the helicopters and the military cargo planes. We WILL be back again.

The Museum’s collection includes a core of over 30 historic aircraft displayed inside its two hangars, including such iconic aircraft as the C-47 Dakota, English Electric Canberra, General Dynamics F-111, Dassault Mirage IIID, DHC-4 Caribou, AP-3C Orion, Fokker F-27 Friendship and Westland Wessex Helicopter. Several more are under restoration for future display. In addition, the Museum displays many historic propellers, engines, uniforms and models, and offers a large number of special-interest historical displays, many of which include audio-visual interpretative facilities. It is in close proximity to the National Railway Museum and the South Australian Maritime Museum. You can purchase a pass for all three making it cheaper, For travel tips and travel reviews follow me on Instagram: ticketsforthree

My dad and I went in with rather little in the way of expectations but were amazed by the size and quality if the collections here. Far more aircraft than you would think could fit in the hangars including several you can walk inside and some you can even sit in the cockpit. Lots of informative displays, artwork from very talented local artists as well as plenty of staff around more than happy to delve into the history of a particular article. The front desk staff were also fabulous, gave us a very helpful guide to the museum along with some recommendations on what to look out for. Even if you're not an aviation history buff I would still recommend a visit you can spend a morning quite pleasantly just walking around.

Loved the visit as an aviation enthusiast. A bit out of the way by public transport, there's a new entrance. But no issues with driving. Many planes on display with quite a number allowing boarding and exploring. Recommended!

What an amazing find!! If you’re visiting Adelaide, stop by and enjoy this amazing museum. The variety of aircraft on display was fantastic and the staff were all super friendly and helpful. A few areas need a bit of a refresh, but this can only happen by visiting and supporting all the love and care gone into it. Check it out, enjoy being up and close and going inside some of these wonderful aircraft.

It's nice to be able to see planes from the inside, and see a variety of them, most of them from the war but they have others too.

  • 5/5 Kimberly L. 2 years ago on Google
We all loved it Daughter is scared of heights but bravely went up all of the stairs to look inside the planes with Seth Shows how brave the pilots were in some of these planes Also just how far Aviation has come The gentlemen who manned the area were very charming and friendly Also you can walk past and see what these amazing talented people are repairing to put on display large planes with repairs being done everywhere and massive motors dismantled. DEDICATION most definitely

As the wife of an aviation enthusiast who was dragged along, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed our visit. Being up so close and able to walk around or even get inside some of the aircraft makes it hard not to be fascinated by it all. It had just the right amount of information and memorabilia on display and a good mix between military and civilian aircraft.

The volunteer are friendly and helpful. The museum is better than I expected. To be honestly, I’m not a big fan of aviation but after visiting this amazing place, I love it. While I was reading the introduction of each plane, I felt like I flew back to the old time. To sum up, it is worth visiting!!

  • 5/5 Renee M. 1 year ago on Google
This place definitely exceeded my expectations! So much to look at and lots of opportunities to explore the inside of the aircraft's. Great for both kids and adults. We went on a day where they started up some plane engines in the yard and it fantastic to see and hear them running!

Our Silver Salties' group of 47 visited today and the experience was outstanding. We divided into 3 groups and were introduced to the museum by very well informed guides who are all volunteers. SA should be very proud of the museum and the wonderful array of aircraft on display as well as the dedication of all those involved. We had a wonderful day out and many of us will be back with our grandchildren. Thank you again.

Easy to find in Port Adelaide, the South Australia Aviation Museum has ample free parking directly in front of the museum, spotless clean facilities and wonderful helpful volunteers. You'll find two large hangers with fantastic aviation displays including a spitfire, uniforms and history. The space was uncrowded and we found it easy to move around without wait times or cues. A credit to the amazing volunteers who run it 😊

One of our favorite spots we have visited in our across Aus trip. The guys here were lovely so welcoming and informative. They knew all about what they had on display, the working workshop where they are restoring planes was awesome to watch. Lots of planes, due to covid their displays are not so hands on, but you can still go into planes and look at insides ect. I am not that into planes and we only visited cause of husband but i totally enjoyed it. Don't miss this musuem.

It's great to see the place expand to include a second display hanger which now contain the P-3 Orion and Caribou transport planes. Will be interested to come back here in a years time to see what else they have added to the museum.
