Staying there was the worst. The rooms are hot and stuffy. You don't have any lockers and the shower was just with a curtain, nothing more. I got so many bedbugs bites there. Absolutely horrible.

Very nice place but had teribell knight sleep. Gunfire, crickets, kettledrums, "amorous noises" angle grunders, leafblowers, gunpowder exploshuns, african shoebill beak noises, blacksmithing and the band of grenadier guards from the room next door kept me up alll knight. room service waas gud thoe had rosted shoebill.

I have been there in 2017, and still have good memories of Sunny's, those kind of memories only warmhearted people can leave : Dave and Peter are some of the most lovely people I have ever met, and they seriously helped me during my stay. The hostel is basic and not the newest place, but the vibe and the people are truly the best. If you want to feel home, and if you want to find a family, here is the place.

It was my first time staying at backpacker/hostel accommodation. I came up from a rural area to Adelaide for 1 night for a dentist appointment. I looked on the internet for accommodation and found they were all $100+ per night. That's what made my mind up to try Sunny's and it wasn't a mistake. The place is a bit Spartan and that's how I like it. The people there were also extremely nice. It's not really a place to bring children. Also, I'm told that they still do pancakes in the mornings but only for a special occasion. Because of the Coronavirus there weren't many backpackers there. There was this one guy who would have qualified as being a backpacker, a guy named Jonah from Finland, he was pretty cool. I would be happy to stay at Sunny's again!

Pete, Dave and Rob are very helpful and make sure that you have all you need. By this I mean things like when Pete gave me a swag had been sitting around for a while and I had a huge discount on my tyres when I had to get them changed before my trip. Besides they clean the common areas and bathrooms everyday which always adds points. It's also a quiet hostel, maybe because of the current situation. I also felt very safe and confident I could leave my stuff around and for people with their own car, their parking is free so I would definitely recommend it.

The owners are really kind, full of good advices. This is not a luxury hostel, but this is a really nice place to meet peoples and have good times. Pancakes free for the breakfast !

The two guys working there are angels. They helped a friend when everything was booked out and even then they managed to help us, and we were desperate to find a place to stay. They were very friendly, nice and truly sincere with us. If I ever have to stay in Adeleide again I will come back as well.

Staff were very friendly and lovely. No heat in the building and the place is very run down which is unfortunate given it’s location and overall layout. Rooms with tall ceilings yet you cannot sit up in your bunk, it would be nice to have taller beds for comfort!

A very chilled, friendly and laid back backpackers - what's even better is the fact that all the staff that work there are totally friendly, down to earth and professional (all in one)! Would definitely recommend staying should you visit Adelaide.

I had an important test in the morning and I couldn't sleep well at night because of the heat, the air conditioning didn't work properly!! The place is OK, but I would not stay there again.

Small hostel, friendly owners. Kitchen, amenities and rooms very old, not really clean.

In many ways i remember this as a casual hostel. But the owners of this place make it a lot more then that, they try to help you where they can and make you feel a bit like home. I would always come back to this place!

Would have been 5 stars but there where too much of a family vibe and I had too much fun over the 6 month I stayed their.

This place's charm is less in the physical structure, but more those that make them a home. I've got a few examples proving this, but I'll share the most recent. I hadn't been at the hostel in over a month, when a package arrived there for me. A simple e-mail and Pete brought it to the post office and sent it on to me. I offered to cover the postage and he was adement I pay it forward to someone who needs it. Yes it's a hostel, not the Hilton, but I'd argue that Sunny's has better customer service, and definitely more heart.

What an awesome spot. The owners are possibly the nicest I've met. I drove in on a motorbike and one of the owners helped me do a valve adjustment free of charge. Not only that but the spot is great. Adelaide is cool town if you give it a chance. Come to this hostel if you want to make friends!

  • 4/5 Hayley M. 5 years ago on Google
Yeah, it's not a 'swanky' hostel. But it's not the worst bed I've slept in, it was warm and everything I needed was there. The staff were really friendly and helpful. And for $17 it was brilliant. Pete also took me to the airport at 06:00 for free. What a legend. Would definitely stay here again. Top location, too.

Although it's small in size, it has this really home-like atmosphere. The owners are fantastic people and extremely accommodating and really want to get to know their guests, so they can go the extra mile for you. It's the cheapest hostel in Adelaide, yet in my opinion one of the best I've stayed in. Would really recommend if you're looking to stay for work.

The guy who checked us in (absolute legend) but the rest of the stay will hold the spot for the worst hostel to date. This place will always have an infestation as long as the walls are standing. Holes everywhere, floorboards falling off, ceiling leaking, which isn’t out of the norm for the lowest price stay in town.. but management lies about it during check in and the boss tries to blame others. Was meant to get reimbursed - he sent less then what we agreed on the phone and I gave up the remainder after I tried calling him 4-5 days in a row with no voicemail option or anyone calling me back.

Friendly staff and people. The facilities are adequate, if a bit tired and run down...but for the price and proximity to the city centre it really can't be beaten.

I was so pleasantly surprised by the service of this hostel. definitely the best among cheap hostels in Australia. The building itself is an old house, so don’t expect much from the design. But the kitchen was always clean, free pancakes for breaky, super nice staff, quiet comfy vibes, great location. Id recommend it to anyone passing through!

Unfortunately, bed bug infestation at present! If you don't react to the bites you're fine but man, they loved me and caused pretty horrible welts on my face, hands, belly, feet. I had to present to a doctor because I ended up having such a strong reaction - slowly improving on antihistamine medication and cortisone cream. Otherwise: It's a pretty basic place in need of renovation - but cheap with free pancakes in the morning. Staff was helpful although warded off the bed bug problem, as in their view "those bites don't look like that". Well, doctor stated they were TYPICAL bites with that kind of reaction...

Don't go there if you don't want to get bedbugs

  • 4/5 Derek C. 5 years ago on Google
You lost points for: wifi is pretty slow. I don't care that the building is a bit run down but that shouldn't mean an absence of shelves and hooks. Nothing in the room, by the bathroom sink, or showers to help a person out. Beds are spring and old, thin and worn out but if you're tired you'll sleep the whole night through - I've had worse and probably you have too! Positives to make up for it: friendly, awesome, helpful staff who genuinely want a traveler to have a good experience. Free little breakfast, coffee, tea. It's cheap and the physical stuff you get reflects that, but the staff goes above and beyond the price tag as far as the less tangible things. Overall vibe is pretty friendly. It was kinda empty and winter and still the place managed to overcome the depressing atmosphere most hostels would have. So I give it a B+. Basics are covered: coin laundry, everything worked, not cold inside in the winter, hot showers, fully equipped kitchen but bring your own oils and spices, regularly cleaned bathrooms. And they have a little bit of parking (reserve it in advance).

I didn’t actually stay here because they were booked up, but the guys at reception were so nice and helpful, I wanted to write a review. They called about 5 places to see if they had vacancies and helped me get a bed at one of them.

BED BUGS EVERYWHERE! I'm surprised that no bed bug checked me in when I arrived. I left the hostel earlier because I had an allergic reaction to the bites. Very old building, full of holes - from the walls to the mattresses. Small showers and kitchen. Make yourself a favour and skip this hostel.

the location was amazing for someone who wanted to see the night life and the attractions of a growing and in demand state and city. There is so many thanks i would like to give to the lovely staff for the family feel that was offered to me during my stay. I would highly recommend this backpackers for anyone whom is looking for a great holiday in Australia.

I absolutely loved my experience at Sunny's. I really felt part of a community: I was welcomed cordially by the friendly, down-to-earth, staff and accepted as one of the group amongst the other backpackers and travelers. Paying the low price for your accommodation means that you will not be receiving a 5-star hotel experience (with regard to bed space, panoramic balcony views and luscious showers) however the place is always kept clean, the staff are very kind and generous and their dedication to their visitors is amazing. They even make the effort to get to know you, taking the time to sit and chat with you; whilst simultaneously giving you advice, tips and information which many others may not. Location was awesome: walking distance both from the city centre as well as the main bus terminal (right next door). I may not have stayed at Sunny's for very long but I can safely say that it was one of the better hostels I've stayed in throughout my travels: everything I needed was available to me and at a surprisingly low price.

Not my style of hostel. Owner was very friendly but there was bed bugs... cramped and crowded room... but very cheap rates.

This please is really close to the city centre, and public transport isnt 2min walk from the front door of Sunnys. Very friendly employees... the owners are friendly to and go out of there way to help with any issue or problem you might have. Room and bathrooms are kept clean constantly and the kitchen is well run. Couldn't have picked a better backpackers👌

Hostel is located in the heart of the city. You want it, it’s right there on your door step. Staff are warm and lovely to talk to. Winter is here so it’s a bit quiet but it’s the nicest hostel iv been to so far. Like an old pub with open fire on a cold day sort of feeling.

Free breakfast, clean bathrooms, nice and very helpfull staff, car parking available if booked in advance (at least two days before you arrive). The location is awesome too!! Would always come back :)

We arrived in the evening and didn’t make a reservation. Not the best combination... we came with a car and definitely needed a parking lot. There where no hostels with a free place for our car. So after a long time of calling other hostels and walking around, the owner decided to organise a parking lot with moving the others people cars. He was so enthusiastic! He really wanted to make it happen. And in the end it all worked out. I mean we weren’t able to stay in the same room because it was so busy, but at least we had our parking lot and each of us a bed. All we needed! The owner also recommended restaurants and shops. Even if we already knew where we wanted to eat (there’s a restaurant just around the corner which offers different specials every day! And it tastes fantastic! (I think it’s called the Cumble). The kitchen of the hostel is small though, so we decided not to cook by ourself. But it wasn’t necessary. In the morning they offered free pancakes with jam and there was enough for everybody! Just amazing! There are really nice people and they even have a small but nice outside area with a table tennis plate and some space to hang up your laundry. The bathrooms are very clean. The location is just perfect. Close to the center, close to China town and close to the best market I ever visited so far!

Great place, the staff were incredibly friendly, helpful and really went above and beyond to help me during my stay. I had booked in for the shared dorm room but on arrival my bed was not ready, I was extremely tiered and just needed a few hours sleep till my bus came. The man at reception quickly told me I could sleep in the private room so I didn’t have to wait ! the hostel is also a 2 minute walk from the bus depo which makes it the perfect place to stay while travelling
