Tom is a excellent coach structuring each week with essential principles and themes. There is a strong second tier of knowledgeable and experienced students who's selfless encouragement help all the students become better. The best part is the family atmosphere. It is a safe and happy place where students of all abilities, builds and ages can train. BJJ can be challenging for the new student. But you will be mentally more resilient the longer you keep going. Tom is there to guide you through that journey, which will be as unique as you are.

Where do I start.. I am from Sydney and started watching/following Professor Tom on their YouTube channel 'The Grappling Academy' when I started my jiu-jitsu journey in 2016. You just know a good coach/teacher when you see one. I told my wife that I would love to visit his school one day and learn from him. This week, my awesome wife flew me to Adelaide for a short trip and got me a bunch of private lessons from this amazing teacher. All I can say is, all his current students are very lucky to have someone like him teach, be available to them and absorb his wisdom. For anyone thinking of learning a great self-defense art or just want to get healthier, you need to try South Coast BJJ & MMA. You will not find a better teacher and he is world class level in my opinion.

BEST JIU JITSU GYM IN THE SOUTH 🔥 Tom is a incredible teacher very knowledgeable and a great communicator. My partner and I started our bjj journey and he made comprehension very easy to understand. The team is equally special on our first day having 20+ people come introduce themselves, felt at home the second we walked in the doors. Team south coast keep it up thank you for everything 🐙

Since joining South Coast BJJ I’ve formed grate connections in a family oriented environment and built my self confidence as well as the ability to defend myself. Tom, as well as all the coaches, are passionate, knowledgeable and bring the best out of me.

I have always wanted to start BJJ, but always been too nervous to go. After starting at South Coast BJJ, I have never felt so welcome and comfortable so quickly, everyone is always keen to help you improve and learn and has the right attitude. This all stems from the leadership and values of head coach Tom, who is an absolute genuine person who really cares about the growth and development of his clients, his passion for BJJ is what makes this place unique. recommend getting involved, you will not regret.

Came to Adelaide from Melbourne for work and took the opportunity to go and see Tom and his team at South Coast BJJ and had a great time. Very welcoming club with high level coaching from Tom, great instruction and supportive culture drilling and rolling with the South Coast team. Can't wait to get back there next time I'm in Adelaide.

I went for a drop in while visiting Adelaide for SA titles and my experience could not have been better. The gym’s culture is very welcoming and relaxed. Tom Davey is an Australian jiu jitsu legend and if you like him on YouTube then you’ll love him in person. I will be visiting South Coast during all my future trips to Adelaide.

Had the pleasure of attending 2 of Coach Toms classes yesterday during a weekend trip away, And even though i wasn’t a local the minute i walked in the entire team made me feel welcome, And i got some awesome rolls in with his team all very knowledgable people. Coach Toms way of communicating and demonstrating techniques is up there with some of the best in Australia and if not the world cannot recommend visiting his gym enough 🤙🏽

My son started going to South Coast BJJ & MMA kids classes over 6 years ago. From the first day at age 7 he was welcomed and encouraged by all at the club especially Coach Tom. At age 14 he is now taking adult classes and has competed in several kids tournaments along the way! His confidence and self esteem has grown and is continuing to grow. I would take my son to his lessons twice a week and watch and had a yearning to take to the mats but felt i was to old (63). I had a discussion with Coach Tom late last year and explained how i felt and he suggested i just give it a go and see how i felt. Bottom line is apart from being able to do something with my son that we both enjoy i have found a great group of people who all show so much respect and are so humble about their achievements . The fantastic people you meet there are all a reflection of the coaches and clubs genuine kindness and care for its members. I would and have recommended this club for anyone who is thinking of taking up a martial arts sport or just want to get fit while meeting really great people.

I’ve attempted to write this review several times but have struggled to find the words that best describe how amazing this club is. So I thought I would share my BJJ journey to show the impact these wonderful people have had on my progress so far. I started my journey roughly 5 years ago after a family friend brought me along to one of the many classes. This was a difficult part in my life as the year prior my father had passed away from cancer. He was a massive part of my life and martial arts journey up to that point. I was lost and very angry at the world for what had happened. After my first class I felt like I had found apart of myself I thought was lost, I was instantly hooked. Even though my journey has been inconsistent with old injuries, illness and processing grief I was always welcomed with smiles as if I’d never been away. The environment created by Professor Tom and the many members of South Coast is truly amazing. It has allowed me to heal from the loss of my father and find parts of myself thought lost. The hardest part about starting your BJJ journey is stepping through the door, I would encourage those to take that step as you never know of the possibilities created in doing so. Even reading back on this I still feel it doesn’t describe how amazing and welcoming this club is. I look forward to continuing my BJJ journey with South Coast for many years to come.

High level BJJ instruction permeated by a welcoming and friendly academy culture. I get to experience both progressive modern techniques and battle tested, old school BJJ. Professor Tom and supporting coaches are highly knowledgeable, dedicated and supportive. Love my academy.

I've thoroughly enjoyed my first 2 weeks at South Coast BJJ & MMA. It's a positive gym culture, made up of a great bunch of people who train with safety and mutual-respect in mind and support each other to excel. The classes are engaging and I've walked away every time with the feeling that I've learned something useful and gotten a great workout in the bargain. The best kind of exercise is when you're enjoying yourself! Professor Tom Davey is a charismatic, friendly and highly knowledgeable BJJ coach and it's a pleasure and honour to learn from him. I recommend checking out his YouTube channel, The Grappling Academy, too. Professor Tom explains and demonstrates techniques in a straightforward way and I find it super useful for after-training review and getting some new ideas! :)
