Beautiful place to go for a long walk. You can walk around the fort which is surrounded by water and can have amazing views of ships departing the ports as well as planes landing in the Logan airport..There were many people sailing boats, canoeing and just having a good time...A lot of people come here for their daily jogging or to walk the dogs. I wish we could just enter the fort and see what it was like inside .

This is a popular spot. Easy, flat loop about a mile long to walk or run along. It goes out into the water. Fun to watch the planes come in right overhead. There is a seating area and good views of the harbor. Areas to picnic.in the summer there is a snack shack for New England classics like clam strips. Sandy beaches- multiple to pick from. Dogs not allowed on the beaches from April to end of September.

Visited Castle Island for an early morning walk with my dog and we both had a great time. There is a nice pathway that loops all the way around Pleasure Bay to a smaller island and then back to Castle Island. There are several monuments along the way, and there are some great views of the bay, the boats in the harbor, the sunrise, and even some distant views of Boston’s skyline. Fort Independence is a great backdrop to all of this, but unfortunately I was not allowed inside when I went. The ranger said they do tours occasionally, though. Very popular area, even on a weekday at 5am so I’m sure it gets very crowded on the weekends. While I would personally prefer to spend a beach day at Revere Beach, the calm waters and lack of waves make this a good choice for parents with small children. Regardless, this is a great place to come for a sunrise or sunset walk and enjoy the beautiful scenery.

It’s great places for family picnic , cookout and outing. The beautiful beach and castle is just amazing. We usually go there with kids and of course try to find seashells/snails/crabs etc. it keeps them busy and is very relaxing. There is a food place and lines are long. TIP: order online and pick up (much faster). Plenty of parking but kinda takes 2 round to find a spot. Overall, it’s a great place for family fun.

A fun place to take a walk/bike ride. Very very windy so be prepared for that. Good people watching spot and also a popular place for people to wind surf. Nice place to take your dog as well with a cool view of the city

Very clean, safe, well-maintained and free. A great place to take a brisk walk along the water for fresh ocean air and exercise! Especially if you take the long walkway across the water and the bridge to the pavillion- less crowded, lots of seating to enjoy views of the marina, islands, and boaters- very peaceful there. If you continue along the walkway it leads to an endearing war monument honoring the local soldiers and from there you can return back along the beach to Castle Island (about a 2 mile circle). To be expected this place can be busy on weekends, lots of families- and since there is only one takeout restaurant for food, the prices are not great and the lines are crazy long. Worth it to take along your own lunch, snacks, and a big tablecloth to use on the grass and/or beach.

Beautiful place to enjoy the views of Boston Harbor, have a picnic, walk near shore, kids enjoyed there, a beautiful park inside. But it was so freezing. You can see various boats, sailing, ships, planes arriving and departing from there. You can grill there. It's nice place to go with family to enjoy, to take pictures or to see ducks, sea and natural view.

Good place to enjoy the views of Boston Harbor, have a picnic, stroll along Boston Harbor, visit the fort, watch the planes take off & land. There is a nice walking stroller friendly path. There is a place to eat right before Fort Independence called "Sullivans" which had good ice cream. This place gets real busy during weekends in summer so get there early to find a free parking spot! Overall a nice park and walking area with some very pretty views.

Calm and serene area where you can read a book, take a stroll or watch airplanes take off at a distance from Boston airport. The castle was closed when we got there. There is a pier for fishing, a cafeteria for coffee/quick bites. Kids had fun running around the meadows.

Great area to go for a long walk. The park was clean and well maintained. Families were there having picnics, and the atmosphere was fantastic. Highly recommend this park for all activities, including an awesome boardwalk.

Great place, we really love it! Activities for everyone: large playground for children, nice walkways for adults, scenic views of Boston, Logan airport and harbor islands.

Lovely place to relax, see the planes and feel the ocean breeze. Bring water bottles and snacks cause there is only the busy seafood shack nearby!

The park was beautiful, and there were plenty of places to sit and eat with family and friends. We got food from Sullivan's and ate it buffet style at the picnic area. Perfect place to bring kids or pets to play, or to walk/run/skate/bike for exercise, or just to relax at the water.

I earnestly feel that this place is quite underrated considering how close it is to the Boston city center and the scenery that it offers. I visited it today, alone, as a little get-away from work - and at golden hour, the view was spectacular. Of course, one could argue this resembles pretty much any beach out there in North America, but I say that Castle Island has its own beauty in its own manner. There's just something serene and curiously indescribable about walking into the sunset down the boardwalk that extends about a mile or two in a crescent. Though be cautioned that strong winds are frequent here, and I regrettably had to cut my photo session short for that reason.

We love to visit Sullivans! Try their lobster roll, clam strips, clam chowder, or ice cream! The staff was friendly and patient as we decided which items our group wanted. There is a great view of the planes landing at Logan Airport and the sunset. People can take a stroll or ride bikes, too.

This place was really cool. But it was freezing! Lol. With powerful winds. Couldn't go inside yet until June. Walked around. Nice playground, nice park. Was too cold to hang out. Got some pictures though. Lots of planes landing nearby flying overhead.

Great place to walk around with both kids and dogs. They have 2 play grounds and a ton of space for a dog to run around. In the summer it's a good place to relax on the beach. I have been coming here since I was a kid.

Castle Island is a great place to go for a day trip. Pack a picnic lunch or buy lunch at Sullivans restaurant, which is onsite. Bring a blanket or sit at the many picnic tables or benches that are scattered throughout the park. You can take 2.2 mile walk along the jetty or just sit and watch the sailboats stroll by. There is also a great playground for the kids. It's definitely a place to visit frequently. I'm looking forward to going back soon!

After having visited other forts in Florida I was disappointed to see how poorly this fort was maintained. And you can’t go in! But they’ve done an excellent job with the park and walking trails around the fort. Plenty of space to have picnics. Nice view of the water and the city. Great sunset views as well. I don’t remember seeing a public restroom.

Here's really nice spot to spend time with family. The sunset view is perfect. And the playground itself is also very good. Well equipped playground with nice view. I strongly recommend to visit here. I will also revisit here soon! :)

A nice place for a walk. Though I can say, that the beach could have been cleaned more often, especially that it is still the season, and also the bathroom was like a scary room with chipped ceiling, dirty mirrors and torn pieces inside.. pretty scary. No drinking water, but there are some stores to buy sweets and areas to sit. There is also a playground.

Seems like a good mix of locals and visitors. Very low key ... usually not too busy. Sullivan's is good for a quick bite - lobster rolls are awesome!!

The Castle Island is the biggest island with many visitors as the tourist choicest place to visit many ships, launches, distant islands , waves playing on the shores, the rarest the Rainbow after beautiful rain scenes and places. It is with all the facilities like Restrooms, playground, picnic area with dining table. We have enjoyed the kiting on the mound a tower beside with children. Photo shooting, birds, cranes, flamingos have enriched our happiness by visiting to the unforgettable tourist place.

  • 5/5 Jacob D. 2 years ago on Google
I used to come here all the time when I was younger, and it’s never gotten old! It’s great watching the planes land and take off on a warm sunny day.

  • 5/5 Verena K. 2 years ago on Google
Nice fort with walking trails on the water. Unfortunately we could not access the courtyard.

  • 5/5 Daniel M. 1 year ago on Google
What a great park! Lots of bathrooms, and garbage cans so it's very clean. There is a beach with lifeguards and areas to grill, which I think you need a permit for? Unsure, the rules aren't posted very clearly and the DCR website was a little hard to navigate. Great views of the harbor, easy to access from the bus and a bit of a walk from the T and lots of free parking. We spent a lovely afternoon grilling and hanging out with many other families.

  • 5/5 Selina T. 1 year ago on Google
Something for everyone, watch the various boats sailing and planes from the airport departing. Saw people wading fishing, walking, spacious park with a good shack restaurant and Fort Independence tours

  • 5/5 Brandon Y. 1 year ago on Google
This is a nice place for family fun day, cook out or picnic. It has nice walk path for jogging and a playground for children. On a nice day you can see planes talking of and landing at Logan Airport.

  • 3/5 John B. 1 year ago on Google
It’s beautiful but it doesn’t really do much for me. The fort is cool but as far as I know you can’t go in. The walk around is nice but kind of uninspiring with its views of the port equipment. With going if you are near by or are a massive history buff that must see landmarks like this. If you are a person that is trying to trim the fat from your trip to Boston, don’t feel like you need to go here.

  • 4/5 Mary R. 9 months ago on Google
What a cool place! We werent able to see the castle, we came to late in the evening. However, there were great activities for the kids. There were a couple of people doing animal balloons, playground galore, you could even see the airplanes coming in (very very close), which was a hit for the kids. Only negstive comment was when we went the bathrooms were closed and the bathrooms available were pretty gross. Definitely go by, even if you dont have time to see the castle itself.

  • 5/5 Matt G. 10 months ago on Google
Chose the best day to go visit Castle on for our first time. Parking on the other hand, not so much fun, there needs to be more. We managed to get a spot anyways on the street, not in the lot. There wasn't enough signage around the park at all to describe what exactly Castle Island was. But there were lots of families out there having picnics and laying out under the sun. There were still some statues and memorials there to check out, as well as walking out on the jetties to the little roundabout Island if they've got out there.

Beautiful waterfront park. Taking off one star due to Porta potty. Not sure why restrooms were closed.

  • 5/5 Cindy C. 9 months ago on Google
Great place to walk, run, picnic, swim, eat at Sullivan's, hang out with family and friends, cookout, and walk your dog! Also, a fun place to Ice Skate in the winter months at their local skating rink!!! I remember one year during the Fourth of July, me and my childhood boyfriend/first love, swam ALL THE WAY across Pleasure Bay! It was fun and exciting and made for such a GREAT swim!!! 😉 Lots of history in South Boston, both good and bad. I honestly feel it has changed for the better now that there is much more cultural diversity within its City and for that I'm forever grateful!!!

  • 4/5 Falena G. 9 months ago on Google
'm not sure it's a "must see" if you're a tourist but it is a nice spot. The beach was nice and swimmable, watching planes come in and out is cool, and it's very kid friendly.

Castle Island is an amazing place to see you in the city. Make sure you walk out on the boardwalk that goes into the water and around. I think the place is amazing grab some food from Sully’s Walker round the Armory. Watch the planes fly in over your head. It’s been one of my favorite places ever since I lived in the city in a great place for me to bring my kid. Overall awesome place to go for a walk or a run always full of people. I love it here great views an amazing places to take pictures definitely worth the trip and it’s free

This is one of the go to place in Boston area. Located in Boston harbor, allows atlantic water access. Very popular for day usage. There is historic fort which adds value to the trip. Close to two miles of road before get to the island is next to the water body gets the extra excitement. Biking, running, walking along that part is very popular. If you are nature lover than catching sunrise would the best thing to do.
