This was probably my most favorite historical site in the entire city. I walked over from across the street and happened onto a tour group. The guide was friendly and entertaining, and also very knowledgeable and informative on the history of the site. I enjoyed it so much that I actually regret not getting a ticket inside to see the rest of the museum building inside. Definitely going to come back and get a ticket to look inside.

A historical location you'll visit as part of your Freedom Trail walk. Standing at the location where the Boston Massacre occurred is a profound experience. It's typically a bit busy, as it's located near main roads and walkways, with pedestrians coming and going, but it's quite easy to approach. There's no cost to see it, and the location doesn't require waiting in line or navigating barriers. The site of the Boston Massacre is marked by a large circle inset with the date, March 5, 1770, in front of the Old State House (original place of colonial governance). There's something tragic yet poetic about the juxtaposition of historical events when you stand there in person. It feels altogether *real*. There are occasional music performances in front of the Old State House as well, if you want to pause a moment and soak it in.

Nothing comparable to standing where history was made and seeing what others saw hundreds of years ago. There is so much that is well preserved and documented. It is really cool to come up out of a subway and find yourself in the middle of a famous building and be able to pick right up on the liberty trail.

So this memorial is not the actual site of the Boston Massacre. It actually happened across the street from this memorial. The 5 pointed stars represent the 5 people who were massacred. The 6 bricks surrounding the star represent 6 people who were injured. And the 13 lines of bricks that extend out of the star represent the 13 colonies! A really cool site that you are bound to pass on a journey throughout Boston. Might be hard to get a photo though since there are a bunch of people trying to snap one.

It is located along the Liberty Trail so you will pass by. You could miss it if you didn’t know it was there. You can learn more about the Boston Massacre across the street at Faneuil Hall.

It seems like a site as significant as the Boston Massacre should have some kind of monument and not just this marker on the ground. We walked right past it and had to go back. I was a bit disappointed that there wasn't even some informational plaques.

After reading about the history of this horrible incident, the visit to this site was quite moving. It is a well-preserved site, and there are city ambassadors close by to tell you about its significance.

The juxtaposition of this building in the city is beautiful! The site of the Boston massacre where a total of 5 people died back in 1770 is also a museum! The museum does have an entrance fee. COVID Safety rating: 9/10, pretty safe. Some parts of the inside is a bit tight and social distancing can be limited if there’s 10 or more people in there. They do have hand sanitizer and a limit of people that can enter. Also I believe their gift shop was closed so people don’t linger. We went during the early afternoon on a Friday and it wasn’t too busy.

Such a great feeling to be "walking around history"; I love how this place makes everyone reflect upon the events of 1770 that led up to the American Revolutionary War and the path to the freedom we enjoy today. The building itself is unassuming and quaint but once you start appreciating all the details, not only in the architecture but the positioning of the building in the city, you'll see that it's more than just a site, but a place rich in history and many other characteristics. A must see when visiting Boston

Would have been nice to have a more visual sign of exactly where it happened. Gift shop was nice but your typical overpriced tourist gift shop cheapest thing I saw in there was a large pencil for a little kid Boston stuff on it $3 there's also a Lobster Claw pen for $5 not very many toys or anything for kids though really

Piece of American History. Right in front of the old state house. well marked and easy to find. It is on the Freedom Trail. Make sure you read a little bit about the event- refresh yourself- prior to coming to the marker, it will help you to appreciate the site more.

We all learnt about the Boston massacre which was one of the triggers towards the American Revolution. I am glad I had the opportunity to visit this place now in my 50's. It's a circle cobblestone marker on the ground in front of the Old State House. An important stop on the Freedom Trail and nice photo op.

Really great place to visit and learn some early American history.

  • 5/5 Brian M. 1 year ago on Google
Yes, I know.....it's a large marker on the ground, not too exciting. The 5 stars is for the historical importance and what happened on this spot.

Fitting monument for an infamous event. Just one of the many stops along the Freedom Trail.

  • 2/5 Puzzle P. 8 months ago on Google
This site doesn't get more complicated than some bricks in the sidewalk. Unless you've done some reading and research about the event (FIVE PATRIOTS WERE SHOT IN BROAD DAYLIGHT... ), this visit will probably not be particularly meaningful.

The area is neat with history, but the site itself is just a marker. There wasn't anything to read. There is a museum beside it that we visited.

Worth seeing for it's historic significance. I was amazed that it was surrounded by modern Boston. This is not in some historic park or preserve but right in the midst of modern, commercial Boston. Take the Olde Town Trolley tour, and it will let you get off across the street from this site. I understand that the Declaration of Independence was first read in public here as well.

Walked the freedom trail and the walk may not be for people who are not used to walking a few miles. The historical sites are fascinating to visit and there is so much History in the Boston area. I would definitely recommend a visit for the family. Summer can be a bit humid, so make sure you have enough water when walking through the city.

Very busy right now so we didn’t park and walk around. It definitely stood out from the rest of the city! So you can’t miss it. There was a lot of people walking around, some wear masks some weren’t. It was a very busy Sunday afternoon in Boston.
