I came here from Manchester Cheadle, I was refused entry to spa retreat as I didn’t have my card. The manager was also very rude and not bothered of why my membership wasn’t updated. She just said use the swimming area and left. Also the spa facilities were like this. Least recommend DL in UK.

Nice David Lloyd with lots of tennis courts. Although the facilities were brilliant and i had so much fun with my friends, the atmosphere was v lacking and it could easily be made into a much more friendly and exciting place to be. Just smile and have some fun, it's a leisure club!

Looks like Purley have taken too many members. The place is falling apart. Spa used to be pretty good but past six months, facilities are usually out of order. The peppermint showers keep needing repairs. The salt suana has been out of action for more than 2 months. The door hinges at the suana doors keep getting loose. The spa entrance doors were broken early on in the year and all members were using the facilities with no one manning the doors. Why pay extra for diamond when everyone can use it? The tennis and other facilities are good but all free classes go in seconds at 8pm when they go live on the system. Gym facilities are good with some new equipment. Discussed and raised this many times with management. They don't seem to care or reply to emails. I have changed my club to another where its a much better team. I would not recommend Purey - dont waste your money!!

Re-joined DL after a few years with other clubs, 1st visit to home club, this was the state of men’s and family changing between 7pm and 10pm on a Saturday night, amazed there was no signs of cleaning in the 3 hours we were on site. If google did scratch and sniff the images from Mens changing would reek of stale urine.

Great gym, staff work really hard to keep everything running like clockwork. Everybody who works there is exceptionally friendly!!! Facilities are excellent, a little tired but probably can’t be helped. I do look forward to going there every time!!

Went for a spa day. Looks like they have an infestation of flies in changing room and in the cafe. On the day the sauna and steam room were hardly working. I would 100% recommend the massage but wouldn’t recommend the spa facilities

This isn't my usual David Lloyd but I visited as I was in the area - I'm not planning on coming back in a hurry. Its main purpose seems to be as a cafe/restaurant/work space as this takes up such a large area and was clearly very popular. The gym itself is tiny and very poorly laid out, with all the equipment on top of each other. I don't really want someone looming over me on the cross trainer whilst I'm on a weight machine. I noticed that quite a few bits weren't working or not switched on and it took me three attempts to find a working cross trainer. More worryingly, there were a large amount of men in there pacing around, seemingly not actually using the machines (although their stuff was placed right by it) but watching everyone else. It made me feel incredibly uncomfortable and I didn't feel like it was a safe space. I've never ever felt like that at my home gym. I cannot comment on the pool and spa facilities, but the changing rooms were incredibly dirty with old used towels everywhere, so that doesn't bode well for the spa areas. Lots of lockers were out of use and lots of people were using them without a lock! So disappointing considering this is supposed to be a top range gym.

The facilities are good, but management and customer service not too good, after a misunderstanding with supervisor pass to accompany children who were bother under 8yr old. We arrived to attend booked activities due to half term which the children were excited about the manager John if I'm not mistaken didn't allow us in which was a shame and I felt it for the children who were looking forward to there activities at David Lloyds

Booked a meeting with sales to join the gym - my first impressions were awful - all the members looked stressed coming in (mainly from car park issues) and the staff were rude - I was left waiting for 20 minutes past my appointment time … I ended up leaving without speaking to anyone … very glad though after reading these reviews on here it just seems horrendous. I did not get a good feeling at all about this place … they are so lucky there is no competition around so people have no choice but to join this horrendous club

Just not good value for money any more. The full Diamond membership has gone up to £399 for a couple. Enquired about cheaper options and was offered ‘Club Plus’ which would save us a mere £20 each a month while removing access to Blaze, Spa, tennis and monthly guest passes. I’ve therefore opted to cancel my membership. It’s a shame as I’ve enjoyed being a member and the outdoor pool is wonderful in the summer time, but this cost is just not justifiable given the overall state of the club and its facilities when compared with some of the far nicer David Lloyd clubs in the country.

Most of you probably know this place is quite expensive however if you are visiting atleast 4/5 times a week then it’s worth it. They have a massive gym with lots of equipments, love their classes- my favourites are Zumba, pilates and aqua!

"My momma always said life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get!" Sums up my time at David Lloyd Purley. On the first impression, the club looks sprawling and nice. The club overall is clean. The pool is nice. The gym however, is very small compared to the size of the club. The Spa is luxurious, but very often the Jacuzzi or one of the Saunas are out of order. The toilets often stink. Very often over the past year, there are problems with hot water, or water supply or towel supply, which is unacceptable given the mind-boggling subscription fees. Overall, my impression is that its a Tennis club with a small gym attached to it. If you're a Tennis enthusiast, the club is great for your. Otherwise, given the high costs, you would be subsidizing the members who're there primarily for the Tennis.

Gone down hill. Let my membership go after 20 yrs. Very good decision. Changing rooms dirty. Got out of shower and feet dirty again after walking to the locker. Bar staff not very helpful. Saying "it the management decision " for everything. Pity cause DL was a good high end club but standards have dropped to a level I'm not exposed to any more.

Overall this place is good but really depends on what you will be using it for. If your main focus is the gym definitely don't sign up for 12 months. Relative to the size of the club the gym is small and therefore, it is often difficult getting access to what's needed in the free weights. For example there are 10 tennis courts but only 2 squat racks. Once you've signed the 12 months you can't get out of it, even if youre not able to attend. During my time there the staff in the lounge and ladies changing rooms are always polite and approachable The idea itself is brilliant and It's a shame the gym is too small as it's a nice overall experience. If your main focus is cardio and pampering its worth it. There is also a really good selection of classes I do think the club could be more reasonable with their contracts as its a great deal of money to pay if you're not using it. When I initially joined it was worth it but once I got back In to the fitness I struggled to continue with progress as I can't get access to the equipment I want. Other areas may have larger gym areas so this is specific to the one in Croydon. Which ever one you join I would always be cautious of signing the 12 months, it's not a fixed price by signing the 12 months so doesn't actually save you.

Really good gym in Croydon. The family swimming pool is very nice when you have kids and it's good that they also have an adults only pool seperately. Gym / weights area is good too. The only downside is the toilets and changing rooms are a bit dated, could do with being updated and better cleaned - the family changing room smells a bit. However, overall probably the best gym available in Croydon

I mean if you know David Lloyd gyms they are pretty posh. Facilities are well looked after. Indoor tennis courts. Out door tennis courts, outdoor swimming pool, indoor pools for both adults and children. A gorgeous spa area with multiple jacuzzi steam and sauna rooms including outside jacuzzi and sauna and a bunch more rooms and facilities. Spa is probably the highlight of the membership. But the obvious draw back is the price. Pretty steep and I would wager most people who don't have that disposable income would want to make the most of everything they can whilst attending. Got a nice cafe with decent sitting space. Staff seem friendly and helpful. And have a decent amount of parking available.

Do not join this club if you want value for your money and great customer service. The sales staff are helpful whilst signing you up and lead you to believe that you are getting something extra special but in reality its a different story. Once they have your money they dont give you the same treatment and are extremely unhelpful and not flexible. The culture is not nice, a lot of the members throw their rubbish and towels on the floor. Groups of guys shouting and watching football loudly on phones and smoking/vaping in the spa area. There is never any water in the spa area. The vaping seems to be an ongoing thing with many members complaining about it but nothing has been put in place to stop it. Lockers get broken into all of the time. None disabled members who feel entitled park their cars in the disabled bays and dont care as they seem to get away with it. Most of the staff are super young and not willing to enforce any kind of ettiquette some of the female staff spend most of their time standing around gossiping instead of being helpful Its more like a meat market where people go to pose rather than work out and a thong seems to be essential as everyone seems to parade about in them inside the spa area like they are trying to catch a sun tan which is hilarious. Its all very superficial.they sell it to you because of the spa area and outdoor pool but dont be fooled once you are a member thats its very difficult to enjoy the facilities because of the type of clientele. The other thing they fail to mentiin is that kids seem to be able to use the facitliies at all times even in the gym ive seen some as young as 8/9yrs old using the gym equipment. The chlorine in the jacuzzi is unbearable and the plunge pool is always full of grime. The ski machine has been broken for mths and the restaurant area is very shabby. They have also oversold memberships as its impossible to park and use the facilities without waiting for some time

This club has invested wisely. We are now able to enjoy additional parking to assist to get to facilities quicker. We now have an outdoor pool, amazing spa, and an unbelievable gym with a multiplicity of incredible personal trainers. The eating facilities caters for all eventualities. Breakfast, lunch, healthy eating, liquid of the stronger nature. It all here.

I pay extortionate amounts of money to be a member. The changing rooms are filthy. I complained to reception and showed them photos taken on Saturday, they got the duty manager who agreed it was unacceptable and said it would get cleaned. I explained that if area was not cleaned by next day I would leave a Google review….so here we are. Where: Male adults only area

I've been a member now 2 months and have been mostly happy with the experience - people are nice and classes I want to join have sufficient availability. Spa is quite ok, maybe little bit too much of chlorine, and fortunately there's outside space too. One thing I can't get my head around why DL Purley can't figure out how to clean toilet areas. Every time I walk past them they smell horrible. I've never seen cleaners doing anything about it - they are just collecting used towels.

Not sure why I’m paying extra to use the spa facilities when you have other members who are clearly not paying for the diamond membership who just push their way through in big hurds! I was in the sauna the other day when someone was trying to get my attention to let them! Sadly doesn’t make it a relaxing experience. I even witnessed a girl who had clearly tailgated someone into the spa area asking one of the staff members to let her out which she did and no questions were asked. I think more management needs to be in place to stop those who aren’t on a diamond membership from accessing otherwise I may as well downgrade my membership and follow suit and save my pennies which is quite a large difference between the membership costs!

Best David Lloyd in London for me.... was... Until rude receptionist did not allow me as a premium member to take out 2 towels when I needed them, while the premium membership clearly says "towels". This is an example of how one person's poor attutude can very easily change the whole impression.

Good location , dirty toilets & it’s a shame girls that come here eat so much that they are 3x the size of a man. Wobbly like jelly. I know it’s now acceptable to be obese and die from over eating waiting to be treated for diabetes. But there should be a limit . It’s not fair on men . Very few normal weight around . Just because men still go with fatties , it doesn’t mean we like them. Farmers go with sheep , it’s just because we are desperate and not because obesity is beautiful

Overpriced gym, probably one of the worst in the group, not that the rest of the group is much better. Oversubscribed. Classes are full weeks in advance, equipment is broken constantly and takes ages to fix. The diamond membership is definitely not worth it. Sadly not worth it. The only reason people are stuck with it is that there is no other option around.

This is first time I’ve been to a David Lloyd. Wow, quite an amazing place, went to Purley Surrey one. Much bigger range of machines, including an abdo crunch, biceps curl and triceps dip machines. All the normal machines and free weight equipment. Not much waiting to use equipment today on Sunday morning. A really nice cafe (and bar!) and outdoor area to sit. A great outdoor sunny pool and sun beds . Obviously amazing tennis courts, but I can’t play tennis very well 😂 The changing / showering facilities are excellent. They have a full body composition scales , which was free to use to accurately predict muscle / fat weights arms/legs/abdo etc, very handy. Overall I was extremely impressed, a first class gym, just a bit pricey to become a member. Got to weigh it all up, pun not intended 😁

David Lloyd Purley has been a big part of my life for a long time, particularly the squash section. The friendly atmosphere and great facilities makes it a welcome place for all. The squash in particular has lots of activity and sessions available for all levels throughout the week. This includes competitive club nights, league matches, beginner classes and kids coaching session. There is a great coaching team there to always help and welcome you. The squash section is a real core part of the club and would encourage anyway to come down and play.

I have been a member here for about 18 months. I use the gym which is large with lots of modern equipment. I also go to spin and Blaze classes which are great. Unlike gyms in Central London there aren't any instructor lead spin classes on weekday mornings or at lunchtimes which is a bit unfortunate. The spa is lovely, great hydro pool, sauna's, steam rooms and relaxation area. I have also used the tennis courts with no problem. There were a lot of issues previously with virtual spin classes but the Manager was very helpful and these seem to have been resolved. The only downside is the price which has increased 3 times during my membership. If I did not attend at least 3 times a week or take advantage of the courts and spa it would not be worth it.

Cleanliness in the ladies changing room needs attention still. Have been a member 25 years but still would think twice to use the showers. One or two toilets are almost always blocked . Smell is an issue - doors broken and repaired daily it seems. Gym is great so we continue.

DO NOT JOIN THIS CLUB. You will be surrounded by noise and young kids. Over £200 pcm for the pleasure. I can join Virgin Active and have the same experience, for £50 quid p.m. As for customer service...phff...forget it. I've been waiting for a call back from my club and no one has bothered. Once they have you're money in their account, that's it. All that rubbish on the advert eh? Makes me laugh every time I see it. So, no more throwing my money away on a dream. I compare this to being in the British library....no matter how busy, it's always quiet and peaceful. Staff don't care about your experience, so I'm afraid to say ... I'm off...

A big shout out to Zeyad from Swim Stars. He has helped our little one’s journey to swimming, his teaching style of positivity and empathy has helped build the confidence in the water. It’s great to see our child smiling, laughing and learning - really engaged and enjoying the lessons and practising after class! Highly recommended and see you on Tuesday!

Its reported gym staff have been taking pictures of cars parked on child bays to catch people out and sending them to the car park operator to issue fines. This is my first month being a new member of the club wrapping my head around the rules and Ive received 3 parking tickets within short time with no heads up from reception or gym staff that I need a permit to use the child bays. This is shocking behaviour and they’re not looking out for their members best interests… except making them incur more unnecessary charges on top of the extortionate £200 they’re paying for a gym where half the lockers are missing simple coat hangers and a water fountain in the gym floor thats been out of service for 1+ week…

Sales manager Mike gave me a tour in Purley club today although I didn’t have an appointment booked which was very kind of him. He was really thorough and took his time in explaining all of the different membership options advising me which would suit my needs best. Club facilities looked great, the spa retreat area was out of this world.

Pleasantly greeted with an amazing scented aroma in the entrance area of the reception. The place has endless facilities and areas of the Club. The people are very friendly. The place is very clean and up class. I would 100% recommend this to someone who has the time to go there often and for longer periods of your day. The membership is quite pricey but I do feel like you are getting most out of what you pay for.

Great place, so far so good. The facilities here are great. There are some works going on at the moment but it is minor and all for the greater good. First of all , thank you Mike and David Lloyd Purley Team! What a place 👌 I booked a tour at this gym to see see what all the David Lloyd fuss was about and honestly it did not disappoint. From being greeted with a warm welcome from Izzy on reception. To our full detailed tour by Mike. It was amazing. Mike was informative and had all the answers to our questions about the facility. Mike’s passion and love for the gym was refreshing and encouraging. He clearly detailed each package option and benefits- we obviously went for the diamond package- worth every penny. Looking forward to using all facilities!

For such an expensive membership majority of days something is not working. This we I went to the gym none of the showers was working at they was still operating like normal not even the taps was working. Then today I went to the gym after I want to go to the spa area none of the sauna was working and 1 of the steam room was also not working. Yes stuff need maintenance do this when the gym closed not in the time we have used our hard earning money to use the facilities. Completely unsatisfied.
