Edit from previous review: Since my last review, the owner took the time to read my review and respond so i decided to give this cafe rio another try... BIG mistake! I have now taken my 2 star review to a 0! I ordered to pork burritos and the two pork tacos. Once again absolutely nonexistent meat! $50 on cafe rio and we literally got tortillas, rice and beans! Done! More pictures below. Costa Vida now has my business. As a business owner myself I rely on reviews to fix what i cant see. Hopefully the business owner of this location makes some changes. This is ridiculous! Wow! Just wow! Ordered 2 pork burritos with black beans and rice.. literally got a black bean and rice burrito! There was hardly any pork! Called the store and they told me i could bring the burritos back, get a gift card or refund. I wanted a refund and was told it would take 15 to 20 days! Then they told me i could not get a refund because it was ordered through doordash! Never going to this Herriman location again!

On the line 3/6 staff were helpful to us getting us our order. The gentleman who started our order was quick and wonderful. A young lady came through who I watched drop about 2-4 items from scooping food into both the house sauce and then promptly dumped 2 cheese containers together with foreign food items in both of them with no thought of clearing it out. Then the gentleman over lettuce, lime, and other food items was too busy chatting with coworkers to complete our food order before also letting guacamole go into other food items as well. Then moving to to the cashier who was actually wonderful. Like I said, 3/6 employees were helpful. Thus our salads were cold (meat and beans) and instead of taking a reasonable (and I’m kinda stretching this definition) 15 minutes to a 30 minute ordeal. Very poor.

Cafe Rio used to be so good. Not sure what happened. The food in the pans looked like it hadn’t been stirred in 6-9 months. The sauce looked like it was a half jello - it wobbled. I was hungry so I ordered and ate. It tasted better than it looked but not by much. I vote Costa Vida.

Question for the owner: I noticed you responded to several reviews and I really appreciate that but I have a question for you. Please take a look at this picture and tell me if this chicken enchilada order looks complete? I was thinking I did not get enough beans on this but I'm not sure. Could you please tell me what you what you think?

I've always said this location is the worst Cafe Rio and it's still true. Super disappointed in this kids "quesadilla" I paid $5 for. Also, all the responses from the business just say sorry, no real solutions or ways to make it better. Go to any other Cafe Rio by any means possible.

OK, I think I figured out the lettuce. I think their cooler is too cold. The lettuce freezes. That's what gives them dark spots. I'm guessing that's why they chop the lettuce so small because they're trying to hide the frozen soggy bits. Oh, and also I found a piece of sharp plastic in my salad. I cut my cheek on it.

Honestly I would give this no stars if I could. Online it said they close at 11 PM which was convenient for me and my friends because it was 9:50 PM and nowhere else is open. We walked up to check the times on the doors because the pandemic messed things up and we wanted to be sure. The times on the doors said they close at 10 PM and since it was 9:50 we decided to be nice because they were cleaning and it looked like they had been for a while. It wouldn’t have been a big deal, however there were some employees cleaning the store and telling us they were closed, which we were just trying to be sure, then when we turned around to leave them be we heard them mockingly laugh loudly as they shoo’ed us away. Horrible for one, to treat people who were willing to eat there like that, and another to close as early as they did. I would’ve been fine with them closing early but the mocking laugh is what really set me off here.

This literally is the worst Cafe Rio known to man. You’re better off driving the extra 5+ miles to get better service. They never get my to go order right. Then when I tell them it’s wrong they treat me if I did something wrong. They will then take that order and rather than re-do they will try and scrape sour cream off or pick off the pico. Seen signs from the owner that they want the best service and responds to google feedback. But it doesn’t change. Congratulations you have the amazing ingredients of cafe Rio with the worst service ever.

I used to love coming here, but now everytime I come there's something wrong. I came in today and ordering was awkward and frustrating because the line workers don't speak up and it nearly impossible to understand what they are saying, we even ordered a chicken quesadilla and were not offered any of the sides that come with the meal, I had to remind the cashier of this before we got those items. In the burrito I ordered, the rice was undercooked and hard, at one point I thought I had broken a tooth. I wasn't able to finish. It's frustrating because I love the food at Cafe Rio, but when it's this low of quality it makes me just want to stay home. I used to work here when this location opened, and we definitely had different standards with that staff and management.

I ordered a tostada and the lettuce is in shreds, it seems they tried to cut it as minuscule as possible. The pieces that aren’t tiny, are wilted and brown. They forgot my dressing, which I ordered extra of, and there’s barely enough to even cover half the salad with extra dressing. They put so much sour cream on the top that the whole top layer of the salad stuck to it and had to scrape it off. I’m highly disappointed and will not be going to this cafe Rio again.

Cafe Rio always prepares decent fare. I've been a fan of Rio since their Utah inception. I love the quality of the food & choices that make ordering simple. The three step process in ordering works great. The whole authentic decor, complete with stamped tin lights, rough carved beams & themed fixtures is a nice touch.

Salads were pretty sad with not much in them as you can see in the picture. Might have been enough to eat for my 2 year old but not an adult.

Let me start with, I love Cafe Rio. Been going to them since they initially opened. But, I don't like this location. Half the time its pretty good. The other half, its just so wildly inconsistent. The old guy handling tortillas is amazing. My kids love him. There are a few others working the line there that are amazing too. Like all Cafe Rio's used to be before it changed hands. For the most part, the employees just don't treat customers great. The cashiers seem to be the worst. Down talking, not listening to customers, and just general rudeness. It's pretty lame really. I really like rio, but I do go elsewhere now just because of the staff. The food is usually okay, but there have been many times our take out order was messed up. One time I picked up a take out order and the girl at the counter said they never got my order. After looking at the other fulfilled orders, I found mine. It seems as though they just aren't manager well, or organized how they used to be. Sad.

Still decent fast food, but the sweet pork meat along with pinto beans weren’t cooked long enough. Also the dine in eating area was pretty messy. I cleaned the table so that my family could enjoy our meal. 8 visible staff members working the night of July 25, 2022 maybe there is no management tonight 🤷🏻‍♀️ Don’t apologize! If you cared about customers you’d definitely cook the food to taste the best of what y’all are known for. And uphold a clean atmosphere.

This is the 3rd time in a row that my take-out order has been wrong or had several items missing. Ordered two tortilla soups tonight along with other items. They were only filled half way and one of the bowls was missing half the ingredients entirely. Plus the serving size has gotten both smaller AND more expensive. We love Cafe Rio but this location disappoints.

From Texas and get Cafe Rio once a year when I come in. Did a pick up order today. They forgot some of our order and didn't find out until I got back to our place and 2 of the meats that say beef on the receipt they made with pork. Seems like they didn't pay attention to the order. Hope it's better next year -Dr. C

We come here very often. Going inside most of the time the people preparing the food are helpful. Sometimes, they mess up my order but it's never anything major. If you do a pick up order, that is when I have run into a lot of issues with my order. The food still tastes amazing though and I usually enjoy everything they make for me and my wife. Overall I know they are short on staff and it's hard to keep up with a lot of customers, but hopefully they can take better quality care of the food so we can continue coming back.

We love Cafe Rio, but This is our 3rd time at the Herriman location and there have been issues each time. This time they didn't have the pico on the side, no Cheese on the burrito and no hot or habanero sauce on the side. The enchiladas were supposed to be 1 chicken and 1 Barria and its clearly 2 shredded chicken.

Not sure who is working there tonight but our quesadilla was nearly inedible. We eat here all of the time and never have an issue. Can’t figure out how this was even sent out of the kitchen

Whenever you order a to-go order and you want sauce put on the sides that usually comes with the meal. This may just happen at Cafe Rio in Herriman. I hope. But careful that they don't charge you extra for that sauce. This happened to me before. Today I ordered a to-go meal a chicken enchiladas and beans and rice were supposed to come with it. When I got home I found out that I barely had any beans or rice in the order.☹️ Keep an eye on them as they prepare your food. If you think you're being shorted food just ask for them to put more on to make a complete order. Other than that the food is great there.

Do not use there app I ordered from here and clicked steak burrito ended up with just rice and beans not user friendly at all. Please make a no meat option on the app. Second order had very little meat on it basically got bean and rice for the second burrito we ordered. Please fix these issues or there is going to be way better fast Mexican food restaurants around that you will lose your fan base.

I've loved Cafe Rio for years and years. This Herriman location is an good as any other, worth the exception of it being a little smaller and therefore more crowded. The folks working the line here are friendly and efficient which is great! Generally speaking, I think the Cafe Rio is going downhill in its quality and value, just a little bit every year. Portions, consistency, freshness, they're all taking a minor hit. It seems like every time I go, it's 2% worse than it was before. It's really too bad because what was a five-star is now a four star. I assure you in two years it'll be down to three stars, and then one day it won't be worth going anymore :(. Fortunately, the dressing remains as good as ever so that's a plus! That's what happens when these larger companies come in and buy something amazing and expand it. That expanse and desire for greater profits results in reducing what made it great in the first place. You saw similar things with kneaders and other great local places. Anyway, enough monologuing. Enjoy that burrito!

I walked in here needing to order meals for 8 people. I’ll admit that the first person that tried to help me clearly didn’t have any experience serving up the items on the menu. I watched her mess up the order of the person in front of me twice. Thankfully Catalina stepped in and threw all 8 of my meals together quickly and had me sent on my way. From what I could tell she may have been the only person in the restaurant that knew what she was doing. Everyone else was acting like it was their first day on the job. Thank you Catalina for having a good attitude and taking charge of the situation.

I’ve ordered from this location at least 15+ times and not once have they got my order right. The last time I ordered from this restaurant (curbside pickup) I ordered chips and queso. When I got home I had a full bag of chips and a Tres Leches. On the bag of chips someone wrote “Out of queso” They didn’t have the decency to tell me they were out of queso. Instead they gave me a bag of chips and a Tres Leches. They also still charged me for the chips and queso.
