Honestly... I really do like this place. I enjoy the food, the coffee, the ambiance, I even like the tucked-away downtown location. Heck, coming here on a rainy day makes me love living in Chico even more. My complaint is this: The staff. Consistently and without fail, they are just plain cold and rude. Not a warm or courteous bone in their body it seems. Not even a smile. If it's not a blank and emotionless stare into your face, it's an annoyed tone and one word answers. I've consistently felt as though I were just "in the way" and that it would be much better for them if I just left. I wanted to believe that it was maybe this terse, all-business, "hipster" style that they had going, but I've been to places like that. They may act all business and cool, but don't act like jerks and treat you like you're an inconvenience. I wanted to love this place, but I don't love businesses that do not make you feel welcome and just look at you like you're an idiot. I can go to Denny's, pay half of the cost for worse food, and get treated way better. It's time to step up your game, Cafe Coda.

Cool place to hangout! We were lucky to catch a live music performance there in a good weather. Their outdoor space is so cool and there were two great food trucks and we tried one of them which served a great lemon pepper wing dish with slaw. Their beer and wine selection and great, too. Good service and fun space to enjoy an evening outdoor! Highly recommended

Hands down, best breakfast place in town! I've been to Mom's, Nash's, just about everywhere, and this place blows them all out of the water! Try the Athens or the Fat Boy for an amazingly delicious breakfast or brunch! There coffee is amazing too!

Perhaps the best breakfast I've ever had. I got the Wise Guy which had the greatest jalapenos I've ever had. The pork belly rivaled the best pork I had while in Hawaii! The mocha I had was heavenly, not too sweet and strong! The atmosphere was wonderful. We showed up around 10 on a Saturday morning and had about a 20 minute wait. The beer garden they had had a lovely atmosphere which made the wait go by so quickly!

Great food and good service. This isn't a fancy place and I don't like waiting to get a table but we did here for about 25 minutes and it was worth the wait. The menu is limited but every item I've tried has been delicious. I was a little disappointed that they used very cheap paper napkins, they seemed a bit out of place. Get nicer paper napkins if you're going to charge $13 for pancakes. :) But the food is wonderful, we'll be back to try more!!

One of the best breakfast spots I’ve been to in a long time. I ordered the salted caramel mocha and breakfast sandwich. My husband ordered the pork nachos and added scrambled eggs. All I can say is wow. The coffee was delicious and my sandwich with focaccia bread & pork belly was packed with flavor. The pork belly was perfectly tender and juicy. 10 out of 10 would recommend! Definitely will be back.

I had the maple bacon French toast and a lavender honey latte. Yum. It was so good. Bread was perfect. Bacon and maple sauce were sweet and delicious. Currently eating the second slice heated up a few hours later.

The wait was about 40 minutes and our server seemed like they weren't having a high attention span day because they kept forgetting things and having to come back often. We didn't have high hopes for the food after looking at the menu and having the server forget coffee then creamer. I was wrong. The service was good, it was just a rocky start and the food was excellent. We had the Nutella French Toast, the Smokehouse B&G with over easy eggs and something called a Stupendo. The Nutella French Toast was delicious of course. The Smokehouse Biscuit and Gravy had some of the best gravy I've had recently and the biscuit was super flaky but moist. My daughter only mumbled happiness while she ate her Stupendo. Great job Cafe Coda.

Comfortable atmosphere and terrific food presentation. Food flavor lacks "pop" and turn around time is slower than average.

OMG.. this food was so good! Plus they had something for everyone. We went for mothers day. I am the only vegan in the group and it was really nice having vegan options available on the menu.. and really good options at that. We all enjoyed the food and the service was on point. Ambiance is so nice, very clean and spacious seating. We have vegan tofu bowl, the wise guy, nutella french toast and chilaquiles!! everyone was very happy. We will be back!!

Super delish. I had the eggs bene with bacon. Look at the big breakfast burrito. Clean, socially distanced, clean bathroom, too. Drinks were okay, Don't go for the drinks, go for the food. It's top notch.

The food and service is amazing! Usual wait on the weekends. I love how I could order a beer with breakfast. The best is the Nutella french toast!

I just ate there for Mothers Day! The full boat breakfast selection was great along with the mimosas. Even though it seems like it is less open to the community it is a good place to eat.

Wow. Great food and service. Fabulous patio seating. Our party loved the French toast and breakfast sandwich. Our preschooler's kids plate was thoughtful, healthy and delicious with sliced fruit, bacon and toast. Worth the wait, if there's a line.

Pretty good eggs benny, coffee was not too bad. Ordered off menu so I can't complain. Overall a great atmosphere and a great breakfast joint.

I've only had breakfast here a couple of times, and it was delicious both times. Service is friendly and very fast and the atmosphere is nice, particularly if it's a nice day and you can sit outside on the back patio which, I'm not certain but probably has heaters.

So far I've had the vegan chilaquiles and the eggs benedict but my absolute favorites are there home potatoes and drinks... Food is flavorful...

I have no idea what the low star reviews are about. Probably one of the best paid for breakfasts I've ever parted money for. Everything was flavoured so well and fresh to boot. The salted caramel mocha was balanced and my partners coffee was beautiful too, even without syrup which I personally nornally get. Chico state 🤟

We were blown away after going there for the first time! Recommended by a coworker. Generous portions and maintained the quality of food at the same time. Potatoes are crisp, pork belly is on point. You can not skip the coffee here! Pricy menu, but worth it as a treat every so often. Would go back.

Too expensive for what it is. My main dish (stupendo) was average. It came with a huge tortilla and who wants to roll their own burrito? Asked for smaller tortillas and of course they charged $$ for it. Pancake was average. Maple Latte was also average. Walking out for $35 + Tip for a meal that did not meet expectations. Place seems chill, but inside ambiance is lacking a bit. Not a bad experience, but will definitely not be back.

I had the lemon poppyseed pancakes with raspberry purée and my husband had the most delicious smoked sausage biscuits and gravy I’ve ever tasted (and I’m from Alabama). The vibe in the restaurants is open and cool. Seems like a bunch of eclectic college kids but they’re doing a good job of keeping the ship sailing. Kudos to our waiter with the spiffy gold shoes and red socks for providing excellent service and attention. We got their in the nick of time because they had a good rush after we were seated. They don’t take reservations so be prepared to wait a bit if it’s peak times. Pretty big place though with indoor and outdoor seating.

Coda has the best flavored coffee, brown sugar mocha (you can get it in hot or cold) grilled cheese paired with tomato soup was divine. nachos with pulled pork was outstanding.

Whether for lunch or breakfast, Cafe Coda is an excellent choice for those seeking to dine like a Chico local. If you’re looking for something on the sweeter side, any of the restaurant’s delectable pancakes are certain to satisfy. On the savory side, their Benedict and sandwiches are filling; a personal favorite of mine is the Smokehouse Biscuits and Gravy, with an extra meaty gravy and buttery and flakey biscuits. A must stop!

What a gem! 1st time here. Ate outdoors. The establishment jas a nice set up outside. When I read they had the best eggs benny in town, I had to try. It did not disappoint. So good. Potatoes had some crunch to them and loved the flavor. Banana walnut pancakes. Im not much of a sweets guy but these were so good as well. Didnt need any syrup. Wise Guy bowl had delicious pork belly on top of rice, the sauce they give you is a bit spicy from the jalapenos. Without sauce is a bit bland so keep that in mind. With couple of coffee and 3 dishes, $85. Definitely not cheap but service was awesome and food, atmosphere was fantastic. Maybe for special occasions.

Best breakfast spot with an espresso bar in Chico! They have everything from healthful simplicity to greasy decadence. Great spot to take visitors. They try to source local ingredients and I've heard they treat their employees well. Go early to avoid lines and budget plenty of time.

We had a really enjoyable experience at Cafe Coda recently. We arrived at around 10am for breakfast and encountered a number of eager locals standing along the wall outside. The new waiting system employs beeper type devices given in order of arrival. Your beeper buzzes when it's time to be seated. Our wait was about 35-40 minutes. Longish but not unreasonable. We were promptly served with smile...although it was clear the employees were feeling the rush. The food that was delivered was exceptional. Cafe Coda consistently serves up delicious, nutritious and attractive meals. I highly recommend Cafe Coda for breakfast and lunch.

This is always one of my go to places when in Chico. They have great breakfast, french press coffee, and a chill atmosphere.

Wonderful little local place, and one of the few places in chico you can get good diner style hashbrowns that isn't Dennys. Generous portions, feels very much like the portions my grandma would give me because she "wanted to make sure you're eating enough, dear" be prepared to walk out with a box or two. Drinks are very tasty, and well made, the lattes have little foam art on them, which I adore

Used to love going to this place years ago. Their food and drinks are all fantastic. Never have had an issue with what their cooks and baristas put out. 3 stars is due to their slow service and sometimes rude staff. Though there used to be ways to get around that, not so much any more. I found that the best way to enjoy them was making to go orders, as the wait times are long to get seated, there is no adequate waiting area (you have to wait outside, so either in the cold mornings or sometimes extremely hot afternoons of chico weather) and the environment is extremely loud and over stimulating for some. I still recommend this place, slowly but surely due to their inability to adapt to demand it's becoming less of a staple for me to recommend. For a place that is so successful and in high demand it surprises me they haven't expanded, gotten better staffed, or looked for a better venue.

One of my favorite restaurants. Their menu is unique and fun. They have delicious and interesting food. They make their own bread and it is yummy. My son and I would go to Cafe Coda every Saturday before we went to the Saturday Market. This was prefire. Our special place to go. For my birthday he took me there for brunch. We had one of their Eggs Benedict and champagne...GREAT BIRTHDAY! Try it...you'll like it!

Its one of the few places that my wife and I can eat together. I always have a hard time finding something on the menu, and most times they get my order wrong. Last time we were there, a waitress in a blue shirt stood at the table next to ours for about 20 minutes while she shared her life story with the customers seated there. Even after a different server ran their food to them, the server kept gobbing on about the Camp Fire, how everyone passes by their house all the time, and how much they miss home. I get that we all went through something traumatizing, but venting at a table during breakfast while working is super inappropriate.

We were told 10 to 15 minute wait. We waited 45 minutes. However the breakfast burrito and coffee was great. The waitress was excellent. You need to go there but expect to wait longer than they say.🙂
