This place is amazing. Ownership is incredibly welcoming. If you walk in once, they’ll remember your name and show you much love and respect. All the members are so warm and open to help. Just an awesome family atmosphere where everyone helps one another and all are passionate about getting better. Thank you for allowing my children to attend and getting them so much better at their sport.

Very positive experience at this training facility! The owners are kind and welcoming to everyone, and the coaches are all very friendly, patient, knowledgeable, and know how to deal with children. My son disliked going to the old bjj academy he was attending, but he actually enjoys going to The Compound! The kids are also nice to each other, and my son was made to feel welcome on his first visit. The facilities are modern, clean, and continuing to improve, and there is plenty of seating for parents. It’s also great that they keep training as a fun and positive activity (not scary or intimidating like our old school) since that encourages children to continue wanting to learn and improve. Overall highly recommended!

I want for a month during the summer and the muy thai classes along with the jiu jitsu classes were far and away better than any place I had ever been to. The compound creates a real family environment and it's clear that the coaches and members there truly care about everyone that steps in the doors. The skill of the coaches are unmatched and the vibes are great. The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb.

Great gym with a very family friendly environment. The coaches are encouraging and very knowledgeable about each of their crafts and are willing to help you reach your goal; whether it be basic self defense or preparing for competition. 100% recommend, especially for the price that this gym offers all of its classes at, it would be foolish not to train here.

The Compound is a phenomenal training location with fantastic instruction in BJJ, Muay Thai and Judo. They have the most mat space of any martial arts training facility in the area. Very family friendly with a great kids program, there is open mat every Saturday with doors open to the community. Its been my "go-to" Saturday training spot to get in some rolls with great people from multiple academies. If you're new or experienced, this is one of the best places to train in Maryland.

My family and I came here for a Muay Thai expo and the owner, his family and his staff were more than accommodating. They were kind and even allowed our daughter to train right at the front in order for her to get the best training possible. They helped us narrow down a local hotel in the area and guided us through the entire process given this was our first expo. If we were Maryland residents this is where we would be training.

I cannot recommend The Compound highly enough. Excellent facilities, fantastic trainers and a very welcoming environment for all. Our family was welcome from day one (we joined about 2-2.5 years ago) and we are now part of a great community that truly cares about each other.

Pow and Rita are amazing owners and they have created a warm welcoming environment. Our son has done BJJ with coach Pow and I appreciate his teaching style. It’s technique but also values, discipline, respect, and FUN! I am forever grateful for this community!

I've been training here since March of 2019 and I love it! It is a very family-oriented and female-friendly gym. The coaches will help you as a beginner to develop your skills. They offer BJJ, Judo and Muay Thai, and I take all of those classes. The owners are great and so are the students. I highly recommend this place!

Excellent training facility with excellent staff! As someone who has been training consistently at a lot of gyms for the last 4 years, the Compound is one of the best. Especially for a relatively new gym. Not to mention their locker rooms are top notch !

Outstanding! The instructors are very patient and knowledgeable. They do an excellent job of not only leading/coaching the entire class but providing that 1 on 1 (individual) guidance and assistance. They are definitely not in it for "just the money"...but more for building a school of talented martial artist.

I’ve been doing BJJ for about 5 years now. So I’ve been to the compound at least 3 times as a guest for they’re open mats. I live in Delaware where I usually train but come monthly for doctors appointments in Maryland. Driving DMV can be stressful for me even more so since I’ve moved away. However every time I’ve come to the compound I’m met such friendly, strong and amazing people. There’s a gentleman by the name of POW with a really nice settling positive, caring and kind attitude. He’s one of the nicest and genuinely kindest gym owners and people I’ve ever met. His gym is extremely clean and he takes care of his students and facility as if it was a extension of a family. There is a massive amount of mat space. There like 20 people on the mat but I’m sure it can hold way more that safely. The people the people that go there have a casual nature about them but are very competent in what they do. There’s a BJJ black belt there named sunder who’s so articulate and well versed in BJJ concepts and principles that it’s sounds like I’m listing to a podcast or audio book. I could listen to him all day if I had the time. I also like that POW is methodical and detail oriented. I noticed his gym equipment had exactly one of the best set ups I’ve seen relevant for conditioning, maintaining and warming athletes in that specialty. In the 3 times I’ve gone I’ve never felt the risk of anyone intending to hurt me and I’ve felt safe the whole time. I invited a friend and he’s was not feeling so good and many of the regulars worked with him knowing he was feeling very good. They’re a good bunch people. Would I recommend them. 5 out of 5 all day everyday. Thanks POW 💥. You got a good gym-school there.

Very welcoming owners and great facility!! My son Tyler was home from boarding school during winter break and needed a facility to stay on top of his wrestling training. I called and talked with owner Pow and he said, "bring him on in!" Tyler chose to try out Jiu Jitsu and loved the experience and lessons learned directly from Pow and assistant coaches. He's returning to school with skinned knees and valuable new skills! Thank you Pow & Rita! - Thomas

We enrolled our child in the Wrestling and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program at The Compound, and it’s been an incredible experience. The instructors are not only skilled but also great with children, making each class fun and engaging. The focus on self-defense and empowerment resonates throughout their teachings. The facility is top-notch, with excellent mats and equipment, making it a safe environment for kids to learn and grow. Highly recommend for anyone looking to introduce their kids to martial arts or for adults to train in a supportive community.

This gym is very welcoming. The atmosphere is so warm. There is a cozy space set up for parents to watch their kids train, and for adults who train to rest. I love to spend time here even when I'm not training----just to soak up the good vibes! The staff are exceptionally friendly and knowledgeable. Those at the front desk train in the classes in addition to fulfilling their duties, so they are able to answer questions about what the classes feel like. The coaches are super friendly and will greet everyone in the gym even if they don't know you personally or you don't take their class. They are so high energy! They clearly love what they are doing, and love to help others learn and grow. The owner, Pow, enjoys filling in when the coaches aren't available. He is so passionate about the martial arts. He took the time to explain the history of development of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu when I asked. He wants to merge Judo and BJJ, which makes this gym an even better choice if you want to add more challenge to your martial arts journey! This gym is woman-friendly! I encounter several women on the BJJ mats, including Rita, the co-owner of the gym. Rita can be found on the wrestling and BJJ mats, training hard and helping newbies when they are confused or need encouragement. Furthermore, the friendly culture of the gym fosters care and consideration amongst the men who attend. The regulars never hesitate to jump in and help with a warm-up or technique if you are struggling (or check in with you if you look unwell). I can't recommend this gym enough. Try it out!!!
