I used to come here all the time and the service used to be great! Now you sit in the waiting room for mad hours. The triage nurse shows no empathy and sympathy for the patients that are as true and dying pain. I sat here tonight and watch how a guy came in mad jokes and all fist let me mention he came hours after me and he got pulled to the back and now is gone. There was another young lady that's been in the waiting room for over 24 hours. Sad! I had the first triage nurse said she was going to give me some pain meds and hook me to an ivy . Nothing has happened yet. I came in due to the fact I can keep nothing down. I'm having an anxiety attack as I wait for endless hours. My pain is getting worse by the moment. Something has to been done about the service and treatment. As I write this there are three triage nurses sitting in a huddle I will definitely going to Medstar Urgent Care in the future.

ER was a circus, but the nursing staff was fantastic. After being admitted, the staff in the unit was equally caring, efficient, responsive and highly professional. While I wouldn’t wish an ER and subsequent hospital stay on anyone, it was as good as it could possibly be. Stand out in the ER was a nurse named Spenser who took excellent care of me. A wonderful woman did my CT scan, and all the nurses upon admission (Heaven, Sophia, Prudence) were caring and helpful. The doctors and nurse practitioners (Jay) were all fantastic. Lousy situation, excellent team.

Came to the ER to be seen by a doctor. My experience in the ER as far as triage, getting signed in, and vitals and getting labs done was superb timing. But the downside is the wait time to be seen by a doctor. 5 hours in to being in the waiting room and I never got to see a doctor. Unfortunately I had to end up leaving, due to my daughter being restless. I decided to tough it out and wait to be seen by a primary physician. Honest Opinion: The wait time to see a doctor is just too long. I was told it could be another 5 hours or maybe less before I could even be seen. I can’t rate my experience in stars, because I honestly don’t know what to rate my experience. I’ll just let my honest review suffice.

For the past 2 months, I have been fortunate enough to be seen at Medstar Georgetown University Hospital. I am new to Washington DC, so it is the first time I have experienced the level of care that goes on there. Because I have several physical issues to deal with, I am at the hospital a couple of times a week. The Doctors have been able to diagnose and begin treatment for .a couple of major physical issues that I have. The Physical Therapy team that is working with me is showing me great kindness and patience. There is a confidence and optimistic feeling among the staff that permeates the hospital. You can’t help but feel better after spending time with this crew. I have never felt so comfortable in a hospital before, or looked forward to going to it! I am so grateful for the professionalism and the knowledge that the doctors and nurses have. I am looking forward to healing in a better life because of their care. So to the doctors, nurses, therapists and the rest of the staff, please know how much we appreciate all the hard work that you do for us. You are greatly appreciated and loved! Barb Thompson

So far I’ve been treated for a late miscarriage and severe panic attacks and anxiety attacks. This hospital is the absolute best hospital in the area ! The staff are so empathetic and supportive. They’re so helpful and understanding. They treated my miscarriage delivery as if it were a live birth and I cannot thank them enough for the sweet messages they left for my spouse and I (in the card the sent us home with.) You can tell they’re very well trained and professional. I deeply appreciate their level of care and expertise!

Stated I would have a 6 hour wait. Fine. 7 hours and I only had my vitals checked. No urine or blood collected when ( I know the doctor will ask). I know that it’s wait times all over in DC but it’s not even super crowded. I should’ve just stayed home & hoped for the best. Never Again

My experience at George Washington University Hospital, I came in through the emergency room with injury to the head bleeding from the head, right wrist was in pain had to wait until 4:00 AM early Saturday morning on January 28th, 2024 to be seen if I had not felt like I was going to pass out I wouldn't had been seen then. Once I went back to triage the trauma team did a very good job in taking care of me making sure the bleeding had stop, placing two staples in my head, putting a Brace on my right hand. The care team that I had on the floor were very good as well had no issues with them taking care of me.

99% of the staff was friendly and professional. My stay was about 14 hours in ER, but my treatment was thorough. I saw many Mentally Ill clients during my wait. They were all treated in a respectful, kind but no nonsense manner. Staff was quick to clean up messes left behind. My only complaint would be the GW Hospital needs a larger ER. Thank you for your care during my time of need.

My friend being a parliamentarian, visiting the US for advocacy ended up in ER with appendicitis. From the ER’s front desk to discharge planning were very professional and extremely helpful. The admitting physicians, anesthesiologists and surgeons were very helpful. Extremely grateful for the services provided. Thank you

UPDATE: THEY ARE NOW TRYING TO CHARGE ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! For my 11 hours of waiting in the ER waiting room and NEVER SEEING A DOCTOR, getting a bed, or getting my vitals rechecked!!!!!! My family finally had enough and took me to Georgetown ER, where I was seen immediately, and my life was saved. This is very important to understand - I ALMOST DIED. I almost lost my life at 44! Years old because of pure negligence on behalf of this ER, yet they are trying to CHARGE ME for services that i have never recieved. What an experience. But look at their PR department reaching out to me for damage control within minutes of me posting my original review! DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE. Let me reiterate something for the PR department that's about to pounce on me: no one, not one person busily walking by asked me for my insurance information. Because they knew I won't be seen. They knew I would at some point just give up and go somewhere else or die in that chair. This is simply a money-making machine for the university. Hold the person hostage for HOURS, feeding them promises of help, then watching them leave or perish, then charge for non-existent service. THIEVES, ALL OF YOU! How do you live with yourselves? Shame! I'm in the ER right now. Hour 9 of waiting in the waiting room area. I came in initially with severe angina pain and my left arm numb. I am still in pain, my left arm is still numb. I have not seen a doctor, and my vitals have not been rechecked since I got here 9 hours ago. I could literally die in this chair, and they will never notice. Animals get treated better. Do not come here if you are in need of immediate medical help.

Went in (around 5:30 pm on Friday 5/26/23) because I had some difficulty breathing and was interviewed quickly and had blood drawn and then was taken to an emergency department (ED) room to wait for a cat scan because of my history of PE and blood clots. The wait for the cat scan was not too bad. But waiting for the results took a while. Almost an hour and a half. The cat scan results came back showing no PE. But then I needed to get an ultrasound to confirm no blood clots in my legs. The wait for the ultrasound took almost three and half hours and maybe even longer since by this point I was in a time fog. Finally got the ultrasound done and then had to wait for the results. This is now past midnight and finally the doctor came over to tell me no clot in my leg which was a good thing obviously. Now I had to wait over 45 minutes to get cleared and to have the blood letting stuff in my arm taken out. But it seemed like no one was paying attention to me and/or where I was in the process. And now it was 12:30 a.m.! I called the nurse's station (even though my room was directly across) to see what the hold up was with my discharge and I was told that someone would be over soon. Well soon is a relative term at GW! At no point in time during this ordeal did anyone offer me water and/or something to eat. The only person that seemed interested in me was the admin guy that showed up with a bill for over $3,700 (maybe they charge by the hour!) that had no details and I was required to pay my co-payment on the spot. In hind-sight, I should have refused not only because there was no backup detail but because of the lousy treatment that I received. I practically spent an entire shift at the ED! Someone should track a patient from the minute they step in and through the process and help them manage the process in the emergency department. If there is staff assigned to do this now, they miserably failed me. Update: The so-called “Patient Advocate” team is as inept and uncaring as the poor service I received. I basically received a form letter response not specifically addressing the issues I raised and told to go pound sand after I asked for a detailed response. Go figure!!!!

I was very impressed by the quality of care and attention I received prior to my surgery and even after. I would like to thank Dr. Friedman and his team, the Anesthesiologist and her team, all the nurses and surgical staff who names I can’t remember but I remembered nurses Joy I appreciate all of your care.

From check-in to check-out, every interaction I had was cordial and efficient. The staff is uniformly attentive and capable, gentle and kind without ever being intrusive. I don’t know how they maintain such high morale; I have never encountered anything like it anywhere else, but it prevailed inclusively on my two visits within the past five months for orthopedic surgery. I should add, of course, that both procedures were successful and went smoothly at every step along the way. The purposeful cheerfulness of the staff had positive effects on the patients I encountered, too. The place is absolutely extraordinary. If I had my choice, I would never go anywhere else for all my major medical care.

I am absolutely thrilled with the exceptional service provided by my physical therapist, Maggie. Her dedication and expertise go far beyond the typical scope of a physical therapist. She has been instrumental in helping me regain control of my legs, a feat that will significantly improved my quality of life. But Maggie's commitment doesn't stop there. She has also taken it upon herself to investigate the numbness I've been experiencing in my hands and abdominal area. Her professional approach to my health and well-being is truly commendable. I am deeply grateful for her unwavering support and professional care.

Everything was great except for the fact that we needed to provide the same information over and over again on forms in different departments while the only thing we were trying to get done was an MRI. Wish all participants could have access to cumulative information in one online portal. Also, pre-procedure processing might be faster, as with 11am appointment and showing up as requested 30 min prior to that as well as having information that MRI should take about an hour, we spent over 3.5 hours in the hospital. Maybe an online checkin could work to speed up the process.

Georgetown is a great hospital once you have been seen. The nurses on the floor and more caring. However going to the ER is totally ridiculous, each time I had to come to the ER the wait time has been over 9 hours top. That's just sitting in the waiting room not including the time you get in the back. When going to Georgetown ER be prepared make sure to pack a meal and ready to wait for 12 till 14 hours top. The 1 star is strictly for the ER department. They have to get better it seem like your in two different hospital. The hospital good but the ER department is poor. Something has to change. Something must change.

The absolute worst medical experience I’ve had in my life!! I get that it’s a learning hospital and all, but these students should be better supervised.I had about 3 different rounds of students come in. One of which I allowed to examine me. The other two tried to pressure me into allowing me to be examined again. By examine , I do mean vaginally. The worst part was the following day I checked my chart and it had results of samples I did NOT. give. I never gave stool or urine but their were results of such in my chart. Carelessness at its best!! I’ll die first next time!!!

Some staff were great, but some docs in the ER acted like I was wasting their time. Sorry my pain and organ problems weren't serious enough for you, bro. One doc actively looked around the room while I was speaking. After 4 hours waiting and another 6 hours in a freezing cold hallway, I was finally referred to care that I actually need. What's behind this lack of efficiency? Staffing? Get it together.

While I’m certain staff shortages and being a trauma designated center had a serious impact on my personal attention, (10 hrs before being seen and 12 hours before discharge). Forced to sit I, took the opportunity to observe. I found the doctors, nurses and intake staff incredibly supportive and friendly, while in a lot of pain, this helped a lot. I found it a bit frustrating to sit for almost 4 hours before being asked for my insurance information, which is on record. I felt maybe the hope was for me to become impatient enough to leave. Don’t know what the answer is, but a fly on the wall and a positive response to those findings might help. that’s my story. Regards Pastor Robinson

Worst customer service from a hospital organization I have experienced since COVID began. I have been trying to schedule an appointment for 2 days. No one is answering the telephones, when you follow the prompts to schedule an appointment no one returns your call. I was also automatically transferred to someone that does background checks for the hospital. What happens to the poor folks that actually have an emergency. If anyone has a helpful hint at how to get an appointment at this facility please share!!!!!

This was the BEST mammogram visit I have ever had (and I am 59, so I have had a LOT of mammograms!) It made me realize how important the technician is in doing the test--this Technician was outstanding! She was skillful, personable, and everything was a breeze. I couldn't have asked for anything more. I forgot her name. She said she has been doing it for many years. She lives in St. Mary's County--if it helps identify who she is. Give that woman a raise and have her train your other technicians. She is the BEST!

I have seen some of 1 star reviews that criticize emergency room management and staff behavior. Those reviews are valid…but I understand the challenges in our medical system that have led to these intolerable conditions. I left the emergency room after 11 hours because it appeared I had 5 or 6 hours ahead of me with patients streaming in at 11 pm. Happily, I had a backup appointment with a doctor the next day—most people in the waiting room did not have that luxury. The staff behavior suggesting their indifference is understandable given the impossible mission to provide quality health care without appearing jovial and uncaring. You have put your people in an impossible position and their attitudes and behavior reflects your indifference to their challenge. I understand your challenges—you did not create this health care mess. I know you are doing your best, but until you are willing to dramatically change your approach to ER management or the health system is reformed in this country, I would stop asking for reviews. You know how bad the ER is—you only look stupid asking for people to confirm how bad it is. I suspect you are looking for public out cry to force change in health care, or worse you have stopped trying to change the system and are just trying to survive. My advice, take dramatic action on a local level or start pushing for the change we need.

I was extremely ill and the care and dedication of the Medical Teams was outstanding. The Pulmonary and Infectious Disease teams were amazing in finding out what was going on and getting me on the road to recover. I also can't say enough about the whole nursing staff on 4 North. They are beyond amazing, especially Deborah. I was so lucky and blessed to have such a great team of nurses who made me feel comfortable and treated me as if they were treating their own family! Much love!!

My visit deserves 5 stars. The reception attended to me promptly upon my arrival, and within minutes I was able to see my doctor, who promptly did the procedure I was scheduled to have done. My doctor was very skilled but also caring and compassionate. The Best. So from arrival to finish, everyone was prompt, professional, wanting to make my visit as comfortable as possible -e.g. providing warm blankets, ginger ale and Graham crackers. and a wheelchair after the procedure. 5 Stars for sure

I just recently gave birth at GWU and I had an amazing experience. From the check in process to discharge and everything in between, I felt well taken care of. The Midwives are incredible! They are all so kind and knowledgeable and really attentive to your needs. I couldn’t be happier. All of the Nurses I worked with during Labor and after were awesome! They were super helpful and took such good care of me! Even though they had their hands full with lots of other patients, they were still very attentive, constantly checking in to see if I needed anything. I also loved working with the Lactation Consultant. She was so supportive and encouraging and I learned so much from her. It was such a pleasure working with her. I appreciate all of the staff (it’s impossible to name them all) for making my experience a great one.

Great customer service. 11/21/2023. I could not have asked for better service. My mother was brought in for a small cut she received from falling out of the bed which resulted for her to have a stitch or two. She is 85 years old but still considered to be a very strong woman. We arrived around 9:30AM and left at 1:30PM which between this time a CAT Scan was done. The hospital was very clean and she was transported to the ER after I returned from parking. The staff on board were very professional during the process of checking her in. I must admit given the time we arrived there were only two people ahead of us who were waiting to be checked in. No matter what hospital you go to everyone should pack not only their patience but lunch as well. We all must sometime vision ourselves in another person's shoes when it comes providing customer service or receiving service. Just try to be kind and have patience you never know what the other person is experiencing in their daily lives.

Because I have been a patient at all or most of the major Dc & surrounding hospitals,I must say that I was pleasantly surprised at the level of care, empathy, patience & professionalism I encountered in the two weeks I was recovering. The team of doctors & nurses were attentive to my needs & comfort , & were quite thorough in not only answering my primary concerns, but just as important, going beyond to explain whatever procedure or medical protocol was discussed.

A very busy hospital, but they provide excellent emergency care and their doctors and nurses are very talented. I went in years ago when my throat was closing due to mono and they fixed me up. Just took 6 hours including wait time. GW is one of the premier hospitals in DC so if you’re in need this is a good choice. Just don’t be surprised if their billing department doesn’t run your insurance the first time. Just give them a call and they’ll help you sort it out.

Though I have had less than stellar experiences in the past, this time was better. The woman at the front desk was far more pleasant than others in the past. The woman who checked me in was very sweet and efficient. Kindness and listening is a skill being lost that is appreciated when you are coming in to make sure cancer has not returned. This is stressing enough without having to deal with rude people who come off as if they would rather be anywhere else. The radiology team and the doctors doing my biopsy were excellent. Due to my insurance (well my husband's) I have to see GW and MFA doctors which is a pain when it can take you up to 1 1/2 hours to get in with traffic or having to pay for HOT lanes to get in in an hour. I also appreciate them doing the biopsy on the same day as the other procedures to minimize loss of pay and the other associated costs with coming into DC.

Today I visited the hospital during a severe nosebleed at 5:45 am this morning. I was told to have a seat. Approximately 40 minutes later, I was final sent to triage where my vitals were taken and then told to have another seat back in the waiting with no help with the nosebleed. I got up a few times during the next 2 hours to tell the receptionist that I was having trouble breathing and swallowing due to the clotting in my nose. I was told they could render no help until seen by a doctor. I was there from 5 am until 3:45 pm with no food, water or mediation and I was not the only one. At 3:45 pm I received a room where I was given a prescription for over-the-counter saline drops and discharged at 6 pm. Most people left the hospital today because we could not get help. The Sunday before, I went to the same hospital for the same issue which is unusual to me; the service was great the nurses assisted with my issue and pulled a resident to assist me in stopping the bleeding. I received some sort of treatment and was out in 5 hours. Not sure what happened today but it sucked. 12 hours for saline drops ridiculous!

Special thanks to MRI Nurse Eileen Thompson for taking such good care of me at the GW Breast Center on July 25, 2023. My anxiety level was sky high when I arrived, but Nurse Eileen was gracious and very caring during my multiple procedures. Thanks so much, Ms Eileen! 🤗

Not a long wait. Nurse that prepared me for the IV for with or without contrast did a great job inserting the needle smoothly. I was there for CT scan for the right kidney. The nurse inserted a small object into a machine and I asked him what was the purpose and he said I wouldn’t understand not knowing that my background is medical which I explained. My issue is, when a patient ask a question, it should be explained not told that you would not understand. The technicians in the back that prepared me and ran the CT scan was professional, kind, and pleasant. The overall experience was great and quick.

Thank you so much to everyone! Recently was admitted through the ER for gallbladder surgery. Shout out to my ER nurse Alex who helped calm me down and a overall rockstar! The surgeons/ anesthesiologist walked me through the surgery step by step and made me feel so comfortable by the time surgery began ( first surgery ever). I never felt rushed or like my concerns weren’t met. Last but not least my team of nurses during recovery were literally God send! Everyone was polite and attentive. When I needed them they were there with smiles on their face. They assisted me with day to day routine while recovering and made my experience that I thought would be a nightmare into a fairytale! No lie this post isn’t a exaggeration! I literally had the best care in the world thanks to a team that worked together to make sure my time there was phenomenal. Thank you again and God bless all the staff!

I had an appointment for a bone density scan on the morning of Wednesday, October 25, 2023. All proceeded almost uneventfully except for the 30-35 minute wait to undergo the scan. I arrived about 10-12 minutes early for the appointment and I still needed to wait. I would have allocated a score of 5 stars had the wait not occurred. - The intake team and Ms. Jeannie, the technician who conducted the scan performed flawlessly and with an incomparable degree of superior quality patient care.

Staff arrived a little after 7 am, they did not greet the 3 patients that arrived before them because our appointments were scheduled for 7 am. One staff person could not log onto the system. I asked a different staff person who will check me in. I perceived her response was rude - it’s not our fault that your appointment was scheduled at 7 am and we need time to setup. The tech who performed the test was also late. They also engaged in personal conversations, which left me exposed to their lack of focus to provide good customer service.

Communication is seriously lacking as I waited 4 hours in between tests just for someone to come talk to me and even waited over an hour just to get a 1 minute CT scan. They forget about you waiting. Then the neurologist cleared me to leave but no one realized it until I asked more than two hours after she signed the discharge authority. I spent 10 hours in the ER for something that could have clearly taken half that time if everyone simply relayed info. Then I was supposed to leave with paper prescriptions but they failed to give me those and told me I had to come back to the ER to work it out. No way was I doing that after spending the whole previous day there and knowing you get lost in their complete lack of system. Thanks to the last neurology doc and nurse Mathew for speaking up and getting me on my way finally!

The nurse and tech were amazing. It seems to be a lack of communication with the nurses and doctors. The nurses would ask what the doctors say instead of knowing what is going on. On my last day, the doctor seemed to not care about what the next step would be. She never gave me any therapy plan for my shoulder and seemed like she didn’t want me there anymore.

My procedure occurred exactly on time. The registration was quick and easy. I had a very short wait of about 5 minutes before my nurse came to get me to bring me to the prep room. Doctors and nurses came to see me to talk about the procedure. Everyone was so friendly and took time to explain things and get me ready. I was wheeled into the OR exactly at the scheduled time. An amazing feat considering all the complexities of any kind of procedure. I was treated like a human being, with respect and friendliness.

I came to the hospital at midnight and I’m still here at 4pm the next day. Staff is nice but the wait time is so dangerous, unsafe and frustrating. I came to this hospital expecting good, prompt and professional care and haven’t gotten any of that. DO NOT COME HERE! you might think this place is better, but you’re better off at any other hospital than coming here. I understand how hospitals work but it was 20+ people who have came and went before me. The ER doctors are sooo rude! I have been so nice, patiently waited, asked nicely and they treated me like trash. Everybody who yelled, screamed and cursed got helped and seen and discharged before me. The stress of this ER has made my experience 10x worst. They helped friends/family of staff before helping the people in the waiting room who were first. This hospital will KILL YOU if you don’t speak up for your rights and health. DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT COME HERE!!!!!! 0/10!!!!!

This was the absolute best experience I’ve EVER had in a hospital! Amazing staff that were exceptionally well trained and kind hearted, everyone seemed to care deeply about their job as well as the patients. I was in the surgical wing and it could not have been a better experience. I had a gender affirming care surgery and every second of the way through the time I was there the staff and organization was top tier and not only accepting of lgbtq 🏳️‍⚧️ but also good at what they do! Love you all and well done! Best hospital I’ve been to 💕

I recently had a surgical procedure at GWU Hospital and the whole experience was great. Check-in was easy. All of the check-in staff from the initial greeters to the ones collecting the insurance info were professional, helpful and kind so the process was quick and seamless. The surgical nursing team that cared for me is incredible. Asish (spelling) and the team that prepped me for the procedure were kind, professional and caring. Molly and the recovery team also knocked it out of the park. Five star experience from start to finish. Thank you for taking such good care of me! Much appreciated.

At the outpatient facility, the nurses (both pre- and post- op) were fabulous. They were kind, caring, and attentive. The anesthesiologist was also informative and took his time to prepare me mentally to walk into the operating room. I'm very grateful to the team!

I had in and out surgery here last week and I was really nervous but once I checked in and was called to the back to get prepped for it. My nurse came in then the doctors who were doing the surgery came in and introduced themselves and then their assistant and so on. I was like I really feel welcomed and at ease a little. When I got to the surgery room the room was nice and cozy they had soft music playing, everyone was so very nice and at that time I knew I was in good hands. I was not nervous anymore. From the time I switched doctors GW has always been on point with everything! I would definitely recommend this hospital and the doctors to any and everyone! They get 5/10 stars from me! Thanks GW😊

The staff had excellent bedside manner and were comforting and kept me well informed. I was very nervous as I had a prior surgery after which I woke up in horrible pain. I told the anesthesiologist and he reassured me before the procedure and stayed with me until I was in recovery to make sure that did not happen. Highly recommended.

When my Mother arrived to the GWU Hospital, she was in critical shape. The Medical Team in the ER worked on my Mother, took X-rays, CT Scans, etc., and took excellent care of her until she was admitted to a floor. Once my Mother was admitted to a floor, the entire Nursing Staff on 5 South, the physician assistants and the doctors took great care of my Mother. They were very informative, helpful, professional and most of all caring. This was my Mother's first time every visiting this hospital and I would have her go there again if she needed to. My family and I are so grateful for giving her all of the antibiotics and the professional care she need. Thank you GWU Hospital from the bottom of my families hearts!! Keep up the excellent work you are doing!!

From the time of my consultation to the time I had my surgery the nurses and doctors were excellent! They made sure at all times I had everything I needed. Throughout my consultation, the doctor was very informative of my issues and well informative about my options. During my surgery, it did start an hour late but throughout my time waiting the doctors still made sure that I was comfortable and the job got done. I would definitely recommend!

I went in with an issue with my eye because it would not open. I obviously was not able to see much at all. The staff was very friendly and helpful, they guided me so I would not run into anyone or anything. I was seen by a medical student, a resident, and an ER doctor almost immediately. They were all very nice and were quick and efficient in order to cause me the least amount of pain possible. The student and resident were extremely nice and provided me with as much information as possible. The only downside was that it took a really long time for the head doctor to approve my discharge paperwork. Which I kind of understand since it is an emergency room, but at that point I just really wanted to leave and go home. I eventually just left on my own after waiting an hour and a half for the head doctor to sign it. But overall, the staff really made the experience great.

Nursing staff were very caring and attentive, I would rate them five stars. However, they were definitely understaffed. My procedure required almost hourly post-op supervision, but that was a challenge give the nurses' workload. Post-op I was very alert and able to take care of myself to a certain extent, and I did so as much as possible to aleviate the burden on hospital staff. Someone in more critical condition definitely needs a caregiver to stay with them. Some items were in short supply: nurses scrambled to keep me supplied with 3L bags of saline and it took about 12 hours for me to get a pillow. Checking out was slow. The guy in the room beside me waited over 3 hours for release. Mine wasn't quite that long, but only because I kept gently nudging my nursing team.

I was early for my 2 pm appointment. Once I was checked in, I was called within 15 minutes to see my doctor. My visit with Dr. Le was great. She asked me how I was doing. She checked my chart to see what tests I'll need. She examined me, and told me everything looks good. My visit was finalized by seeing the attending doctor before leaving. Dr. Le also informed me that she'll be leaving in August. I'm saddened to see her go. She's been patient, understanding, compassionate, caring, and professional. I wished her well in her new endeavors.

I was not please with the care in the emergency dept . I was treated poorly by the intake staff and told that I was taken off triage and to sit in the crowded emergency room. I could not pass any urine after having surgery from the previous evening and was in a lot of pain. The nurse told me that there was nothing else she could do for me and to wait. I asked for the head nurse but was refused. I asked why the room was so dirty with bodily fluids stained on the floor and was told that they were short staffed and had to do intake and housekeeping. I refuse not to be seen and had another nurse and three doctors attend to my emergency situation. The experience wasn't professional concerning patient care. I will not go there in an emergency situation again.

I went to the emergency department so I have no knowledge of the rest of the hospital. I should also say that I was having major issues when I arrived and was sent back very, very quickly. I could give it a poor review because my nurse disappeared on me after telling me they needed to do a test, it took a very long time to get anyone when I called, and the other people in my room were seriously struggling. But ultimately every single person I talked to (maybe 12?) was incredibly concerned, compassionate, and kind, and it felt like they truly cared. They were clearly overworked and understaffed but it seemed to me that they were doing their very best. Emergency departments are wild and I don’t blame them for not being totally on top of everything/everyone. Especially since I was just chilling quietly. So I’m not basing this review on the organization (which seems flawed) but the people within it, who seem wonderful. And because of them, I would go back.

From the check-in to going home after the out-patient surgery the staff and doctors were wonderful. Professional, kind, patient. All was explained clearly and my questions were completely answered. Everyone put me at ease. The hospital was clean and not intimidating. All in all, a positive experience irregardless of the procedure.

Your people are great! You should have a good industrial engineer examining your processes to find ways of speeding results and physician reviews. I came in with chest pain, was triaged quickly, has a EKG within 45 minutes. The nurse told me it looked good. I waited 3 hours for a physician to review and decide next steps, then left without talking to a physician or knowing any more about my results. This can be fixed!

My stay was very good considering my broken ankle. The orthopedic surgery team got me all fixed up. The nursing staff, especially Laura, Florence and Gwen were excellent. The care techs were mostly great especially Dawn, Alexis,Lina and Martha. The food was decent, the dietary team was great especially Nita, she was always above and beyond. Even most of the housekeeping staff were compassionate and efficient. I definitely recommend GW Hospital for any care that you need.

I have spent a lot of time recently going to GWU. After three surgeries I haven't had any bad experiences except for a 35 hour stay in the ER because they were short on beds on the wards. I don't fault them for that because they are short on staff and there are many patients filling up the beds. The admin staff are pleasant and the registration process was straight forward and doesn't take too long. The nursing staff are top notch and Dr. Lin and the rest of the surgical team are terrific. The only real problem I have is it is very expensive to park. I still think a 5 star rating is still appropriate.

GW Hospital is lovely and staffed by truly kind and caring people - once you get past security and the automatons serving at the various check in counters. Frustrating to see how they appeared warm and human when chatting with each other but didn’t afford that same human connection to the folks coming in for surgeries or to be admitted! Beyond that initial speed bump, everyone else was attentive, highly professional, kind, caring and proactive. LOVED my surgical team and the nurses that took care of me both before my operation and in recovery.

The nurses, techs... & doctors were all very attentive during my ER visit. Each gave their undivided attention to me and my husband during a very upsetting day for us. We had to wait quite a while because they were so busy which is something we are not accustomed to especially when brought in via ambulance. Blankets were not available because they didn't get their delivery which surprised us as well. The team was very apologetic and provided what they could. It was obvious they were frustrated too. Overall the care was attentive and thorough. Each did their very best, Thank you!

My spouse recently was transferred to this hospital. The ICU team was very kind and helpful. Massive shout out to Nurse a Richard who we just absolutely amazing. I greatly appreciate him for all the things he did to make both my spouse and be more at ease and comfortable. Unfortunately did not sense that from the entire team. Felt more like “another patient” type perception and just not as empathetic as other nurses. This is my first time at this hospital and I will admit the parking situation is horrific, worst I’ve ever experienced. Parking structure is full frequently, street parking gives 2hr and will cite immediately if expired. (I was cited and was within my time limit, makes no sense). Overall I am happy with the hospital and would recommend it to all family and friends should they need their services (although I pray they would not)

Very solid hospital. The nurses I've worked with here actually show initiative, and they take time to answer questions & take care of you. Been here a few times and it's been a positive experience. The only downside is its always crowded here, so the wait-times can be a little long, but I feel like they handle it better here versus certain other hospitals in the city..

I am leaving this review to thank the lactation consultant, Erin, who obviously knew everything she was talking about. I believe she is a huge asset and she really saved me and my baby postpartum with her blood sugar and supplementing tips. Her tips worked instantly and helped us go home on time from the hospital. She was the only one with helpful tips and I wish the other doctors and nurses have the same amount of help and care. I greatly appreciated her. She turned my stressful stay completely around!

Very positive staff, never any problems with my doctors or desk staff. Been at GW since age 16 and now 71 and been satisfied with the service, each operation and boy have I had plenty. My hospitalizations were great. Everyone with great bedside manners. I lost a lot of doctors I got so attached to along the way but life goods on and never had any bad replacement doctors; I love them all and the hospital itself.

The hospital is simply excellent.Doctors are exceptionally knowledgable, nurses are kind, empathetic, caring, present and attentive to detail. Facilities are state of the art! I love that they use Mychart, which makes keeping track a breeze. One thing I'd like to see is Recycling in rooms enforced rigorously throughout the hospital. That and facilities in general could be improved in terms efficiency and sustainability (but I am sure that is true of all hospitals).

Your radiology department took me as a walk in - my doctor put the x-ray prescription in the hospital records only 15 minutes before I showed up. They were competent, efficient and pleasant; and saved me from having to make a separate trip to the hospital for the x-ray. Absolutely wonderful.

  • 4/5 Mike S. 7 months ago on Google
Would prefer an actual appointment with defined time, but this "walk-in" system has worked on the several occasions I've use this imaging facility. My only constructive comment pertains to distribution of the images and associated write-up. I had need for the x-ray images/write-up to also be sent to my GP [they automatically go to the requesting doctor), but the imaging staff said they couldn't do that. They did offer me a disc, but my GP had requested the write-up as well. So, now I have to get the "requesting" doctor (neurosurgeon) to send the images and write-up to my GP. Not a huge deal, but just another hoop to jump through when, in my experiences with other imaging facilities, it's a simple matter to provide the facility with the address of my GP, and they forward to her my images and associated write-up. Why can't GWUH do the same?

I have to say the staff was wonderful. You have one man who parks your car and keeps the cycle of parking moving, then you meet Sonya and I did not catch the other friendly lady’s name but they kept an on my mom was I was upstairs for hours, and last the nurse I had Susanne she was amazing especially when I was embarrassed she told me don’t be that why she was here to assist me and her me through my procedure. Everyone was so nice to us and Dr. Nobrega is very delightful and the way they all respect her that is amazing to see. Susanne helped me keep my dignity when I just had issues. Thanks all of you.

The worst hospital ever mines well be a trap house with out service . The staff is very unprofessional it has been a very unpleasant wait the check in staff do nothing but laugh and play on there phone there are very sick and ppl that need to be seen they telling everyone two to three hours wait . Just to make it back.. there is a lady puking her soul out and all she asking is for a a pill to stop throwing up and can’t even get that . Half of the staff here needs to be fired . Hire ppl who can be professional and help ppl hire health care professionals.. this is sad fr I don’t underestand … 🙄😒 you must have to travel to an hospital in Maryland just to get some care ..

Everything was wonderful and easy -- To begin with, being able to be seen and taken care of, was done in minutes -- I was taken to a bed and quickly seen by nurses and then doctors, they asked me questions and applied some equipment to find out what was happening to me that I felt badly for 3 days. A diagnosis was determined and it made perfect sense. I was discharged with a prescription and the suggestion that I see my Doctor in a few weeks. Everyone was kind, concerned and extremely qualified for their jobs. I am very thankful for GW Hospital being so close to where I live. I know I will always be well taken care of.

Wow. Seeing the aggregate review score being 3.9 for GW hospital seems ridiculous. This is a world-class hospital with exceptional doctors and staff. I'm being treated for multiple afflictions that necessitate close communication and coordination across multiple teams and it's very impressive to see just how well they're consistently able to do this. The doctors heading up each team are outstanding, as are their supporting staff and they've managed to maximize my chances for a full recovery. Lastly, after a 15 day stay recently, i can honestly say that the Internal Medical team caring for me was top notch and kept me informed of changing circumstances multiple times a day. The nursing care I received during this stay was also very good. No one wants to face sudden and unexpected health challenges; I certainly didn't. But I am thankful that I have the best care available to see me through it.

The nursing staff was tremendous in taking care of me after my surgery. They made a very difficult few days much easier to bear. Cecilia and Leela (I hope I’m spelling these names correctly) as well as the others I was too out of it to remember correctly, made sure I was well looked after. I cannot express enough thanks to the GW staff. 10/10z

Excellent hospital. Had to visit while on vacation for what turned out to be a big gall stone. They made sure my pain was managed and gave me good directions to get through the remaining days of my vacation. I’ll need to get my gall bladder removed when I get home. It was a huge team of medical professionals that helped me over the 4 hours that I was there. But I definitely felt well taken care of.

Ms. Rochelle at the surgery center is absolutely amazing. She made me so relaxed with her realness and care. I truly appreciate her. Let’s not forget about JD that I dubbed the vein whisperer. Please know that I have been a GW patient forever and I can truly say that there is not one single person that could painlessly and quickly start an IV better than her. I just felt safe and secure with this staff. Everyone was perfect. Thank you all so much.

Dr Fayaz Estephan was very helpful and understanding. His compassionate personality and knowledge was one of the best I've ever experienced. All the nursing staff were very good at what they did and were very professional. I love my experience at the GWUH, the suites are clean with no odors. Customers service on point, they never miss a bet to keep me feeling safe and protected. My last visit system's went down, but I didn't feel the weight of it, by the way they handled the matter with professionalism in a timely manner. 10 out of 10.

Everytime I have had to stay at GW the staff there is always amazing. The nurses in labor and delivery are Heaven sent. My stay did not come with an ending that anyone wants but the nurses were so compassionate and kind. I cannot thank them enough. Every single staff member that I met was amazing. I absolutely love this hospital.

On February 8, of 2024, I gave birth to my baby at the George Washington University Hospital and stayed there for four days after. The labor room staff were well prepared. They made sure I am comfortable and took care of me well. Over all, the labor room service was excellent. The room they provided was okay but not the bed. The bed had a big deep bend in the middle and the nurse and the staff new about this from the beginning. I asked to fix it or change it with better one. They said they will change it but they never did dispute asking them everyday. Finaly, on 3rd day shift’s nurse noticed it and changed the bed (remember I spent 3 days and 2 nights in discomfort). Another disappointment, when I asked for an extra pillow (the two pillow they provided were so light and flat that they were close to nothing), however, when asked for more I was told “they are hot commodities” and never gave more.
