Don’t let these people lie to you this by far the worst hospital ever! Back in the day it was okay but I don’t know what happened over the years. I’ve watched my sister have the worst labor and delivery. The doctors was unprofessional they even had students practice on the patients. They barely clean, sanitize my sisters room, if it’s supposed to be COVID why nobody not doing they’re job! I was so irritated and annoyed for my sister. She came in the hospital Great left out with a fever. The nurses will get irritated if we ask them a question, they will take along time to respond to us if we call for them it was just too much I felt so bad. Hopefully in the future they will have better doctors and more professional nurses. I will go more into details but I’m not! Just hope In the future things will be so much better and more professional

I have never been more compelled to write a review in my life, and I will be sharing this story in more detail everywhere. I came to the ER at Washington Hospital Center presenting acute symptoms. I explained that I had passed out an hour prior, and I was having the worse headache of my life paired with pain and tingling in my left arm and chest. I was in tears with the intake nurse. I ended sitting in the waiting room in the ER for 3 hours before they even took my blood or gave me an IV. They said I would be getting a CT scan shortly. 3 more hours went by. Nothing. After 7 hours I asked for an update was initially told I was next, but moments later was told it would be several more hours. When I went to the discharge nurse to explain I was leaving because my symptoms were growing worse and needed immediate attention, no one would assist me to take my IV out. The nurse who ended up “helping me” was so rude and he literally pulled my IV out so aggressively that I am now badly bruised and my right arm is so achy. Throughout my entire time at Washington hospital center, crack heads and a few people in handcuffs were escorted in to the ER and were given blankets, snacks and priority treatment. One of them was hollering for hours on end, and being incredibly crass. He was rewarded multiple times with snacks from the security guard- the same security guard who SCREAMED at me for going the wrong direction as I was leaving. I tried to explain to him that my vision was blurry and he continued to yell at me and be aggressive in the main waiting room- all because I went the wrong way since I could barely see straight. This was incredibly triggering and traumatizing- to have a massive man get in my face and scream at me…I ended up going to a hospital in VA where I was treated immediately, and with respect. I was in hypertensive crisis when I arrived, and I was given a CT scan within 45 minutes- which saved my life. I shared this story with the doctor and he was APPALLED at what I told him. He was even more appalled when I explained the hematoma looking bruise on my arm was from a nurse. I know we DC people hate to go over the bridge to VA, but trust me, if you need an ER, please go to VA or anywhere else other than this insane asylum moonlighting as a hospital.

My sister was a patient at this hospital just recently. She had chest pain and fainted while working. She was brought to the emergency room department and had the worst experience since. The nurse who took care of her yelled at her when she was asking for something, she could not move at all and needed assistance getting what she needed. She was not treated with respect, her privacy was violated. She was in pain and did not receive anything to manage it. Her calls were ignored. It is hard enough to be in pain more so being treated rudely while dealing with it. The nurses’ priority should be the provision of safe and quality patient care. My sister just experienced the opposite.

I believe it was one of the best in DC, but you can die waiting on the emergency. I have been waiting for 6 hours to be seeing by the Dr or specialist. This is insane to just wait this much longer, I hope to see better hospital systems.

I waited 3 days to moved from icu to a room on another floor after I was cleared to leave icu. When I was finally moved I was moved to an absolutely filthy room with a flooded overfill toilet and debris all over the floor. The nurse dropped my phone in the first minute of being there and the head nurse wasn’t listening to my complaints at all. My roommate was the rudest human on earth and they catered to his every whim. He was surrounded by empty cups that he continually poured soda into and never shut up. This was unacceptable and borderline a health risk. I walked around without being stopped , they showed zero care for me and I walked around taking photos of broken equipment and dirty floors including the room I was moved into

Terrible experience. The wait is terrible. Some of the staff have acted unprofessional. An orderly ran another patient's wheelchair into my 91 yr old mother and she had an attitude. This hospital has gone downhill by a lot.

I am a traveling heath care worker here at WHS for the past 7 weeks. It has been a very positive experience. I have met people who take out the trash, clean the rooms, transport patients, sterile processing, the lab, orientation, security officers, secretaries, Surgical techs, Nurses, nurse managers, Doctors and I will honestly say that everyone has been friendly, polite, helpful and welcomed me. I would absolutely recommend this hospital as a great place to work. It’s a big and busy location that will challenge you and that’s why I wanted to work here. I also enjoy getting out and enjoying all the historical sites that Washington D.C. has to offer. It is cherry blossom season and so much natural color and amazing photos to create. I am enjoying my decision to work here as a traveling surgical tech. Thank you WMS!

Was flown into the emergency department after a major hemorrhage, post-tonsillectomy that left me unable to stop throwing up large amounts blood. The ER team got me straight into a room, explained everything they were doing, and made sure I was comfortable. My primary ER nurse, Raquel, was incredibly helpful. In less than 10 minutes after my arrival the resident ENT, Dr. Randolph, came to exam me and was very kind and had excellent bedside manner. He collaborated on my treatment plan with my surgeon and communicated everything to me and my mom. After a few hours I was admitted to the hospital in my own room. They allowed my mom to stay the night with me since I am under 26 years old. My nurse, Mary Kate, was incredible. She made sure me and my mom were comfortable, that I wasn’t in too much pain, and was very very sweet! The next morning Dr. Randolph came back to discharge me. Every nurse, doctor, and staff member I encountered there was great - which is very meaningful considering I was in such rough shape. Great medical team. Wait times were a bit long at times, but as to be expected in a hospital.

The front desk and security are horrible. No compassion, no empathy, unhelpful, and always have an attitude. They will give you different information policy than the doctors and nurses, and it is not always correct. If you can get past that, the other staff is gracious, kind, compassionate, and helpful. Mask mandate in effect. Normal visiting hours vary from 11a-6p to 2p-7p. Only one person PER DAY. Palliative care visiting hours are 24/7 under order of provider. Two people are allowed at a time, and they can switch with other documented visitors.

I believe this is the best hospital in Washington DC Compare with other hospitals. Unfortunately waiting time is so much here cannot explain. This location needs major renovation more facilities for patients and staff.

It was the worst experience in a hospital, my daughter was on surgery for 6 hours, and no one come to me and let me know how was everything, not even after the surgery, in other cases I saw doctors come and tell there family how was everything and that everything went well. But not in my case and not even the receptionist could tell us anything not even where she was. Until 10 hours later when my daughter called me and send me a picture of the board information that she can verily see. That was the only way that I could see her. They ask her if she wants to see a minister, she told them that she wanted to see me because her father was a minister but they didn’t let me in, she stay overnight and now I am her outside waiting until 11:00 they won’t let me in until visit hours, even when she ask for me. Her father. We are used to have a better treatment. Georgetown is the best hospital. For sure….

As a licensed healthcare worker, I understand that resources are limited, specifically staffing. But the attitudes here from the staff are so rude and negatively charged. The wait times are incredibly long and there are people waiting hours in the lobby to be seen, only to be brushed off and cold shouldered when they’re concerned about their wait times. I would be especially worried for those in the waiting rooms who’s condition would worsen as they’re waiting. I would be very weary and skeptical of having my life in this establishments hands given what I witnessed. I expected more from this hospital, especially given the location. Kindness goes a long way, and this place needs a revamp.

Visitor Policy for ICU End-of-Life Patient - NO HEART AT ALL My Grandfather was transferred to your hospital facility on Thursday, 4 Jan. The doctors and nurses did all they could to save my grandfather, but his heart was not responsive to the medication. We appreciate them. However, the facility and the policy for visitors are absolutely wrong. His children could not be in the room with their father simultaneously. Which makes NO Sense whatsoever! If someone told you, that unfortunately, although your father is dying you can't be with him. I think you would not be so understanding, upset is an understatement. We had family members come up to the hospital to be turned away. They were not even able to see their family members. My grandfather is loved by his family, he is the patriarch, and to make this decision without his entire family's support is horrible. Breaking up families during such a difficult time. YOU are adding to the GRIEF!! We are outside of a pandemic environment, and that was hard enough. The treatment my family experienced from your security and facility is considerable the worst I have ever experienced within the medical community and plain wrong. I BEG all not to bring their loved ones to this facility. Especially, for end-of-life treatment. THIS has been one of the hardest situations, and to now have to deal with staff/security about visitation for a love one who is dying. That is unheard of and terrible. The hospital should have been more concerned about the upkeep of the facility vs. who is visiting patients at the end of life. The trash wasn't dumped in the room for 2 days straight, we dumped the trash (3 trash cans), and the bathroom in the room wasn't cleaned for 2 days. The bathrooms on the main entrance floor and the ground/2nd/4th floor were nasty/disgusting. The hospital specializes in cardiovascular care, but YOU HAVE NO HEART!! I want to hear from the director of the hospital, not a patient relations team member. I have left a message on the patient advocacy line as well (3 times). And I have submitted a message through the feedback portal. No response!!

Do NOT go to the Emergency room if you are in an actual emergency. The young man checking people into the WR was rude, and not personal at all! He should not be working the front desk. I was there for over 3 hours in the normal emergency room, then they brought me to the back only to have me wait even more! The entire time I was there, the only thing they did was take my vital signs. The nurses were not very friendly either. After almost 4 hours of waiting I decided to go to another hospital. As I was leaving the nurses honestly showed no empathy or care, they just said “well we can force you to stay”, even though they could see me reeling in pain and discomfort. Again, if you have an actual emergency do NOT go to this hospital. Waste of time!

Got an infection during back operation in this hospital. Ended up having to return for 3 more operations, 2 more weeks in hospital and then went home with vacuums in my back and 6 weeks of iv antibiotics.. I still have ptsd a year later. It was pure hell. During 3 weeks in this hospital, cant tell you how many horrifying incidences that occurred. Infectious disease doctor was amazing and just a couple of the nurses. But, most nurses were mean and would talk about you behind your back (I know cause I overheard their conversations) and completely ignore you. One time, they made me wait 3 hours before assisting me to bathroom when i asked numerous times.. It was horrible and almost abusive. I had a PA that was downright rude. Would never go back to this hospital. I'm now scared to death of hospitals and medical procedures after being in this hospital and all they put me thru. And I did fill out the surveys after leaving.

My mother was recently hospitalized for 13 days. She is immobile and has no bladder control after making the staff aware of this I still received many calls saying my mom wasn’t telling the nurses when she had to use the bathroom well that’s because she doesn’t know when she has to go. They would let her lay there in her urine. They never once bathed her or attempted to help brush her hair. For 13 days she laid there dirty and the nurses were so mean to her. She would call me crying because she had pooped and over an hour after she called them and told them they still hadn’t came in to clean her up. When I went to pick her up she had dried poop all over her bottom. The nurse gave me an attitude because I didn’t bring mom’s wheelchair from home. She said they don’t take them out. I wouldn’t recommend this hospital to my worst enemy! It’s dirty and the staff is very rude and disrespectful

First off let’s start this review off with my grandmother is 88 years old and is bedridden. She has been bedridden for the past 6 years. My grandmother also has been coming to Washington Hospital Center for years for her primary care. We needed to get some forms filled out for her for metro access and to get a handicap parking space in front of her residence. First of all I do not understand why she had to attend this appointment in person for the doctor to fill out what is already in her medical chart. There is no way all of a sudden my grandmother regained the strength to walk. It is like they needed proof of her being wheelchair bound even though she has been here before. Her appointment was at 3pm, we got her here early just to be on the safe side. It is now 5:10 pm and she is still in the doctors office waiting on the forms to be filled out. This is beyond ridiculous and I hate to say this but that office needs to fire every single one of its employees and rehire new staff that is patient focused. These people here do not care. You know how uncomfortable it has to be to sit in a wheelchair for over 3 hours just to get forms filled out!!!!!! Crazy!!!!!! I will never recommend this hospital to anyone for primary care. It is better for you to travel to Georgetown, George Washington or Sibley hospital to be seen.

The nursing and staff of the ER here are absolutely the worst. They did NOT show signs of care for me as a patient. Not a single ‘human being’ had acknowledged me when I needed major assistance. It took well over 12-18 mins before one of the nurses / staff / officers to notice me and called one of the nurses that was assigned to me to nurse me. (her name I don’t remember but she said she had twins.) She was okay, but even the vibe I was getting from her wasn’t 5* service. Everyone else is a 0, negative, no stars. This hospital and its staff are Far from organized, shown no sign of professionalism, loyalty or customer care for patients such as myself. They just care about doing their job whatever that is and charging people ridiculous charges and multiple bills. Avoid this hospital at all cost and their school. #American life 🙃 Don’t Do MedStar.

Everyone from registration, the nurses and the Doctor made me feel safe and did everything to heal and rehabilitate me. You have all my admiration and gratitude.

Zero stars if I could. I’ve been here for 14 hours for an emergency visit (we arrived by ambulance). We’ve gotten fluids and some doctors to come around to say - maybe eventually things will get done. We arrived just after 10pm, it is now 1:20pm and we are still sitting here. I hear that this is typical in the DC area, but this the worst I've ever experienced. Do not come here like we did. Take some time and research to find somewhere better. Heck, take some time to identify which hospital is better in the area just in case of an emergency NOW, because this one will do nothing but give excuses and the run around when something is truly urgent. This is the worst - unorganized, 0 urgency and no real answers or service. Do not do it. I do NOT recommend.

April front desk at suite 108 for pregnant women had a really nasty attitude talked to me any kind of way no greeting busy speaking to co-workers while speaking to me must be really miserable. She definitely needs more training on people/communication skills if you don’t like your job don’t work there simple. In the hallway while I was waiting for feedback I even overheard other patients complaining about her attitude which sucks. She needs to learn the basics of patient care fire her or have her get more training .

This hospital has really turned into a dump!! A family member recently had surgery and the nurse lied about giving her medication as well as walking her per doctors instructions. The front desk staff needs to be retrained they lack empathy as well as manners wish I could give a negative star instead of 1 star. These are the people we are trusting to care for our loved ones😫🙄

My 5-star is for the service I received today at my appointment. I’ve had some horrible experiences in the past but today was really good. Nurse Claudette and Dr. Darko were absolutely amazing. They were friendly, kind, attentive, and compassionate. That is how I feel everyone in health care including the staff at the front desk should be. People visit the doctor’s office already with anxiety most times so they don’t want any bad encounters with the people that are there to care for them. Maybe these two should run a training camp on exceptional customer service. It was refreshing today.

Amazing and caring staff, excellent and outstanding doctors, nurses and staff. My husband underwent open heart surgery 2 months ago, and he was treated with the most absolute care and compassion. We could not have picked a better hospital.

This has not been a great experience. The wait times are extremely long and no one communicates. It took 6 hours just to see a doctor in the ER. Another 3 hours to get a CT scan. And another 4 hours to obtain the results of said scan only for them to tell me I need emergency surgery. It's been 12 hours since that was communicated and I have literally not seen a doctor since that time. This is terrible how they treat people.

I am absolutely disgusted with this facility. The center itself should be absolutely ashamed of the service they provide to their patients and their families. I understand if there is stress due to understaffed, dealing with complicated people, but it is your job. You chose this profession to HELP people. To CARE for these people. Yet you hang up on them instead of answering their questions. You dismiss them as if they are below you, that their fears and worries are of no concern to you! You call yourself a MedStar Hospital, which is suppose to mean something in this area. Which should mean the best in the area. Washington Hospital was SUPPOSED to be the best around, but in reality, it is nothing but a disgrace to the MedStar name. The ONLY reason I would even give this place 1 star, is because of the doctor's. The doctor's weren't the problem for my family. They were doing everything they could to help us. The problem is the politics and hospital itself. They want to release a patient home who needs rehab after a stroke and heart surgery, yet will not help him get into a rehab center, and he can barely walk on his own. Then refuse to release him because we can't provide the 24hr care at home, all so that they can collect money for him to have to remain in the hospital from a family who can't afford for him to be there. This entire hospital and staff should ashamed of what they are claiming to stand for. Your families do not matter to them one bit. WE NEED TO DO BETTER!

I made an appointment by phone for the pulmonary office at 110 Irving street, suite 3800. I was told someone cancelled and I could get the spot for today, otherwise the next available was in April. The receptionist in the office was very rude and unprofessional. No one greeted me. I came 40 minutes early for the appointment and told her the doctor and time. She asked my name, checked the system then gave me some paperwork. When I sat down to look at it, I realized it was not my information. So first of all, I was given someone else’s private information. When I told her it was not me , she asked for my ID. She looked in the system and then said i didn’t have any appointments. I asked if i could wait to see if someone came in for the time I was told and she said she couldn’t answer that question. First she said all their patients were coming in today. Then she said it was up to the doctor. She gave me an appointment for two days later with a different doctor. I said I would wait to see if the person came in. Then her and the other receptionist went to the back, presumably to talk about me. Two other patients came in, but not the one scheduled for my time slot, and no one was up front to assist. While I was waiting, I looked up the name of the doctor, which she only gave the last name, and discovered he was not even the type of specialist I needed. I asked her if the doctor was for pulmonary and then she says, “Oh, I thought you wanted an endocrinologist”. If she had asked she would not have made that error. She asked for the appointment card back and gave me an appointment for later in the month with a different doctor. After sitting there until the appointment time and no one coming in, I asked her whether she could check if the doctor would see me. She then said they give a 30 minute grace period. She also says it is not likely the doctor would see me after the 30 minute grace period because then it would be time to see his next patient. I left after that because it was obvious she didn’t want me to be seen by the doctor. I lost time from work to go to this appointment and then to be treated with such rude behavior, especially when I was not rude to her, is unacceptable from a professional office. Hopefully the hospital will provide customer service training for its employees so they will learn how to treat patients with respect.

The overall experience was smooth, with the majority of the staff being friendly. However, there was an issue with the Lab Nurse stationed at the door, as her demeanor was abrasive. It appears that she may benefit from some customer service training. Additionally, the requirement to sign in both upon entering the hospital and once again when reaching the doctor's office, which is only a short distance away, seems unnecessary and causes a bottleneck in the process. Furthermore, the printed labels are so dark that it's difficult to discern the person's face.

Years ago, when I was an employee here, I had my laptop stolen from the meditation room on the Lower Level on a Sunday. Contacted the MedStar Police and told them to review the cameras. They told me nothing they can do at the moment and that I'll have to speak with their supervisor during the weekday. I had to hunt down this man multiple times as an employee, and the officer didn't seem to put a single effort into my case, let alone received a single follow up! Sad to know they don't seem to care about MedStar employees. I don't find the MedStar Special Police dept. to be very active. This low star review is solely directed at their dept. Maybe things have changed over the past 5 yrs, who knows.

I would give this facility a zero if I could. Staff on their phones not willing to give family members information on patient. Not willing to call anyone to update on status even though family was permitted to receive information. I was called to change surgery time the day before. Got there on time to be informed that my original time would be the surgery. Had to wait for 7 hours before surgery. This is unacceptable.

The doctor was knowledgeable, patient, and courteous. She included me in all decisions. She listened with care. She also addressed all of my issues and concerns. The support staff at the front desk checked me in promptly and with courtesy. The techs in the lab were attentive, professional and very courteous. This was one of my best experiences at this hospital. Thank you!

The doctors are very good, but virtual visits are inadequate for adequate for good patient care. Plus, it takes much to long for their nurse practitioner to log onto your call and begin the visit. After 25 minutes of holding, the doctor's office finally called me to see if I was still going to attend the appointment. I left the computer appointment and did it through my smart phone.

Had my routine cancer follow up appointment today. Once again very happy with the extreme professionalism and wonderful care I received from my team at the Cancer Institute. So far so good. Feeling great and much of it has to do with the care I have been receiving for the past almost 3 years. I am in the best of hands!

The waiting time is too long, I waited 8 hours. I arrived at the emergency room at 12:30 am, they sent me to have blood tests and then they sent me to the waiting result room, There I waited 6 hours for them to give me the results. The doctor arrived around 6:00 am to give me the instructions for the medications, then she told me that she was going to go and bring me the prescriptions and the discharge and she did not return, I waited almost 2 hours for them to discharge me. I was asking several people about the doctor or the nurse who was treating me and they had already finished their shift, they left without discharge me, they forgot about me. Until I asked to somebody else they discharged me.

People may not know that MedStar Washington Hospital Center offers a full range of medical services in addition to being a hospital and emergency room. My PC physician has been here for over 15 years. I’ve use their routine health services for over a decade as well and I have been pleased with the quality and professionalism of the staff. Facilities have improved greatly over the years. I highly recommend this facility for your full medical care.

Overall the nurses, and some front desk staff specially at the emergency entrance are very nice. Staff at the main entrance checking desk, specially the person that says that is the desk supervisor that later we found is Thomas on duty 8/19/2023 who refused to provide his name is an arrogant, no communication sense, lack of training person. He should not be placed in a position where interaction with people is a must.

Terrible experience here. I had a kidney stone passing and was ignored in triage for over 3 hours. No pain meds or IV at all. To top it off, when another lady finished her IV and signaled an RN, the RN told her “well take it out yourself” and started to laugh at her. It was one of the worst health care experiences I’ve had.

I had a very good labor and delivery experience here via c section, as I could not labor naturally with my midwife as planned for several reasons. I labored naturally here until 7cm and I’m so glad all I had to do was pace my breathing. They took wonderful care of me, knew how and when to manage my pain before I realized it myself. The low stress of this resulted in a calm trust when it came to the c section. Will come again for the next baby!

This Hospital has changed so much the lack of communication, compassion and apathy has diminished. I was hung up on just because I was trying to get info for my brother who was admitted their after surgery and sent to intensive care following a routine surgical procedure. I am not sure what happen because I was not there but can say one thing after his release I can't get much help. We do better when we know better It's not about anything or anyone but my brother getting better and all that am do is to help him get better and can't get the help from at this point from WHC Dtaff.

My son was admitted and the team at the trauma center was amazing! My sons nurse, Julia was so kind, attentive and caring. The doctors explained things in a way I could understand and they were also very caring. The hospital is huge and kind of overwhelming, but all the staff are amazing and helpful. From the front desk to the surgeon, I have had nothing but a positive experience. When i left after dark the security guard actually walked me outside and watched until I was out of his sight! My son has been admitted to the hospital and once again, everyone on his floor are just wonderful. Thank you all!

My mom and I went to visit my niece last weekend and may I say from the time we entered the facility to the time we left everyone was so nice helpful and friendly. From the check-in guy, to her nurses, and even a random Doctor who helped us find the correct exit. The family waiting area and the restrooms are very clean. But the biggest plus of all was how they treat my niece, as if she is a part of their family. I didn't give it five stars only because everywhere has room for improvement

First your love one is known by a number not their name. After arriving at 10:00am surgery started at 11:40, at 4:00 I finally got some answers. Didn't get to see him until 6:00. Moved to his room at 8:00 and then was told I had to leave. We were originally told, I could stay with him. I was not allowed to stay any amount of time with him. Hospital website says visiting hours start @ 10. They make visitors wait outside until 11:00. No place to wait inside. I will say there are some very nice caring staff but there is also quite a few rude, staff members. Washington Hospital Center needs to do a better job respecting the family members and love ones of the patients.

I understand that resources are limited, specifically staffing. But the attitudes here from the staff are so rude and negatively charged. The wait times are incredibly long and I waited 3 hours to get some pain medicine. there are people waiting hours in the lobby to be seen, only to be brushed off and cold shouldered when they’re concerned about their wait times.

My visit with mywent smoothly us always. The are are always are ready to help and if you don't no where you're going or get confused they w go out of there way to take where you need to go. The only negative thing I can say about it is that it sometimes takes too long to make an appointment over the phone and they don't make an appointment in person due to covid.

Very kind staff but overall experience was terrible. Rude intake specialist who was yelling at patients and being very ghetto. Nurse forgot to give me my insulin twice. I currently have been out of work and risk losing my job from simple miscommunication between office staff and physicians. If I lose my job because of this I will be EXTREMELY disappointed. The nurses aides were kind and only reason I gave this poor excuse for a hospital two stars. One person even passed away on the floor while everyone around was joking and talking about their nails and what style they were getting. Hiring manager needs to choose and do better. Worst experience I ever had. If you can steer clear away from this place

Today I had a great visit. Dr. Kumar was amazing. He explained how I should take my medication in a very simple way. I was comfortable and Dr. Gallagher is always on point. He takes his time to listen to me and answer my questions. I appreciate the compassionate care I am receiving.

This rating (three stars) is given due to my experience on Friday, Feb. 16, 2024. I had a Heart/CT Calcium Scoring test scheduled for 8:20 AM. I actually arrived at WHC at 7:57 AM and was at the desk in the waiting room at approx. 8:11 AM (I was given faulty directions from a WHC employee over the phone, a few weeks ago, when I scheduled this appointment. She told me that I first had to go into the Cancer Institute Building. The employee at the desk, when I went in on Friday, said that the individual was incorrect in telling me to come to the Cancer Institute and directed me as to where I should actually go. She was nice and professional, that was greatly appreciated. When I checked in at 8:11 AM, after completing all of the necessary forms, the receptionist/desk employee, told me that my name would be called once they were ready for me to go back. I waited for over two and a half hours, only to find out from her (after I decided to walk over to her desk and inquire about the long wait time; there were people who were checked in after I was, being called back while I was still sitting, waiting) that she "put a host of other patients in the system around the same time" and basically, (my words), I fell through the cracks, so to speak. Although her explanation made little sense to me, she was apologetic and told me that my procedure shouldn't take any more than five minutes once commenced. After waiting for another twenty minutes or so, I was finally called back for my procedure to start. Again, the three star rating is due to the wait time, which was, apparently, by her own admission, due to a mistake by the desk employee checking me in. Everyone was nice and professional, no issues there. I do hope that, moving forward, that there is more attention, on behalf of any staff checking patients in, paid to this sort of thing.

I had to be seen in the POB building and my wait wasn't to long at all. The staff was friendly and patient! Upon my arrival, I was treated with respect and smiles. I was greeted the moment that I entered the suite. The staff at suite 2100 was amazing. My doctor was professional and she took time to listen to my medical concerns and most of all she made the decision to make sure that my medical needs were met. Great experience overall!

The nurses and staff on 5E are outstanding. They took such great care of my Mother Jaren Hailey on her week and a half stay. They are attentive, friendly, sufficient and caring. My mom enjoyed the food also. The food staff was awesome as well. I can’t leave out the social worker staff Juianne. You were wonderful. Hopefully we won’t have to see you guys again but it was a pleasure.

November 09, 2022 the hospitality I receive on this date for my husband check up with Dr. Philip Lam and his assistant. Liz was outstanding not only Dr. Lam and Liz was outstanding, but my first visit into the facilities was outstanding. I want to give this service an outstanding rating of above, and beyond and extra, thank you so much Dr. Lam and Liz and all your staff from the security to the doctor. Stay well MedSTAR hospital center Washington DC. You are number one!!

The ONLY good thing about this hospital was the surgeon. Everything else was awful. It took 7.5 hours to get a room assignment after surgery. After waiting around from 5am to 7pm I was able to see my husband for only 5 minutes after surgery. I was told to come back the next day at 11 for visiting hours but when I arrived they told me visitors were not allowed. When family members tried to call my husband’s room the staff told them they had no record of him. It took forever for simple requests like a glass of water. The administrative was unhelpful and consistently gave us incorrect information. I would recommend avoiding this place if at all possible.

A special thank you to everyone at labor and delivery the entire hospital staff have been amazing especially my nurses Katherine, Crystal,Gabe and Maddie if I forget anyone names my apologies, the entire physician department who have assisted with my delivery and recovery a big thank you. Even though things take a rough turn after delivery you all have fought to ensure I went home to my family I can’t express how much I appreciate all your efforts. Continue being the best in patience lives.😊

Latoya at the front desk is an absolute pleasure. She knows the ins and outs of every crevice of the Center, which is really helpful for the rest of us that are lost. She listens and displays pure empathy when trying to get you to where you need to go. I told her was going to post this. Hopefully people who need or should see it will give Latoya the high 5 she deserves. Thanks, Latoya!

WHC Emergency room in the height of gentrification in DC use to have you In and Out of the ER. You were greeted with a bunch of new shiny overly nice white faces...Now we are back to waiting two days to be seen in the ER and no one around but a bunch of sick people..What happened to all the New Doctors and Nurses!?? I have been in here so long with my Dad (A senior with heart problems) I feel like i need to be seen too! Damn shame!!!

I received 13 implants a full mouth. Because my situation was unusual with plenty of bone grafting it was a16 month process under two different student. The chief of surgery was right there assisting during each surgery visit. They did an excellent job with very little discomfort to me. I highly recommend.

What a horrible experience! Ive never seen anything so deplorable in public service, yet alone healthcare. I just left, I was there August 23 9pm until 2:30am. The emergency room staff was very rude, everyone from the lady at the front desk to the security guard.(The fat one who came in later) There were patients crying in pain and they were laughing and watching TV. This is a sad thing to see in this field. People that don’t care. I will be in contact with news outlets and my lawyer to investigate this. This is unacceptable!

I came to this hospital sometime in March with pain spitting headaches, couldn’t hold down food, could barely talk or walk. They sent me home claiming I had a virus. I came back the next day because I’d gotten worse and they sent me home again. I was so distraught I tried to tough it out and stayed home on Sunday. Monday I went to the Medstar urgent care who then sent me to Medstar Georgetown…. They took me immediately and gave me pain meds. Turns out I had meningitis. Washington hospital quite literally almost killed me. Thanks I will never ever come back here if I can help it.

The quality and level of care given at Medstar Washington Hospital Center has decreased tremendously. This by far has been the worst experience my family has ever had here. Far too many nurses and patient care technicians here lack empathy and care when giving direct care at the bedside but it’s not all of them. Coming from a family with a heavy background in the medical field, from doctors to nurses to medical assistants, and having a current CNA certification myself, this experience is not what healthcare is supposed to be. If you’re a family member that cannot be with your loved one the entire duration of visiting hours during their stay here, then prepare to lose sleep. My family member sat here for a week with gastrointestinal bleeding with little resolve as they aren’t equipped to perform the necessary procedure. I had to contact food service management multiple times because they kept getting meals incorrect. I wrote on the dry erase board and informed staff of all allergies, including beef. Imagine my surprise when they send up shredded beef and beef gravy over mashed potatoes and carrots for dinner despite the meal ticket having beef as an allergy. My loved one didn’t receive a medication allergy band until their 5th night here. The neighboring patient, bedridden, had been laying in bed for who knows how long without any blankets, calling for assistance, despite the hospital being very cold. I took it upon myself to ask the lovely lady at the unit desk for blankets. She was able to take me to get blankets so that I, myself, could cover the patient up. The staff often left trash in the room that I also had to take upon myself to clean up. You press the call bell, they ignore it, if it even works at all. Phone didn’t work and everything was plugged into a surge protector hanging on the wall because the room did not have outlets. Smells of urine and alarms constantly going off. I could write a book on what was wrong here. I reached out to hospital management a few days into the stay, spoke to someone briefly, and didn’t hear from anyone after. This experience was prolonged and disheartening. Please, please, please, improve the quality of care and support here. Thank you to those that actually care and try to make a difference here.

I feel compelled to review my positive experience with Tracy Williams at the Administration/Registration desk. Mr. Williams not only provided me with excellent customer service, but he was also kind, courageous, and selfless. Three men walked into the lobby directly in front of me. One man began yelling and cursing at the security guard. The man seemed erratic. The security guard was very calm and attempted to calm the man down. Mr. Tracy Williams checked me in swiftly; he also showed concern for my safety and asked me if I was okay. He then walked around to the other side of the glass and escorted me to the elevator. Mr. Williams also ensured that he walked in between the man behaving erratically and me. He indeed went above and beyond, and I’m grateful for his kindness and bravery. Thank you, Tracy!

Poor management. My mother was supposed to be discharged by 11 am. We are still waiting after 2 pm! They said the doctor that has to sign off is in the OR. Seriously!! We have to wait all day because the doctor doesn’t know how to do time management! Make that make sense. At least get another doctor to sign off. I guess this is the only doctor they have which is also insane. The doctor could have signed off before they went to the OR. This place is ridiculous. It also has that typical hospital smell of old people and the rooms, bathrooms, are all old and dirty. We did not go here by choice. We got transferred here from Montgomery General.

The staff was very pleasant and nice and got me in and out quickly but you all have us to sign in and register online with our ID and insurance information The staff was very pleasant and nice and got me in and out quickly but you all have us to sign in and register online with our ID and insurance information yet which is OK and it’s supposed to say time but when you enter for your appointment at the hospital you have to do all that information all over again which is a waste of time. Do you want to leave for a patient who has filled it all out at home you will need to correct that error so that people would not have to do it twice for oral surgery It does not make sense.

Having an absolutely deplorable experience here. Was admitted into the ER on a Friday afternoon, then had to sit in a hallway until 11pm Sunday night. The ER was flooded with patients in temporary beds with nowhere to go. I had no way to call for assistance and just had to “hope” someone would walk by in case I needed to use the restroom, etc. When visiting, my partner was told that I was un-locatable and then that I was with a nurse (I was not) and that she would have to wait 30 min. By forcing her to needlessly wait, visiting hours ended. And don’t get me started on the “food” as they call it… I could go on and on, but this has just been an awful experience all-around. I never would have imagined this place would be as bad as it is. On the plus side, staff has been generally pleasant and friendly. But to make all of these very sick patients languish in no man’s land is unacceptable.

Easily the very worst hospital I’ve ever been in. Unfortunately my surgeon does her operations here. I had no idea how awful a place this is. I had a 5 hour planned cancer surgery. The pre op nurse was very rough and caused me a great deal of pain putting in Ivs. And she did it incorrectly so another nurse had to redo it on my other hand. Zero apologies for that. After surgery, the recovery area was full of very loud people who were allowed visitors to come and go. I’ve certainly never seen that before. After that, they had no room for me to go to even though this surgery was booked well in advance and required an overnight stay. It took 4 hours to get a room and then it was a shared room with a person who had a male visitor who stayed until 11pm talking, swearing, lights and tv were on all night. I didn’t get a minute’s worth of sleep despite repeated requests for some quiet. The nurses never came to offer me water, a blanket, a pillow. It was uncomfortable, extremely unpleasant, and completely uncaring. I’m moving my post op care away from this location. If I could rate it a negative number I would. It’s not worth paying thousands of dollars a month for health insurance to have to go to such an awful hospital. Never again.

Care at this facility for my love one was beyond outstanding!! Room was very clean, the staff was amazing patent techs. Especially her nurses RN Miskir, she was very patient and so helpful to her needs. She had another nurse RN Olysui, so sorry but she works on 1st floor and was good with my love one. This hospital is welcome and shows they care for the patients.

No words to describe the amazing doctors, nurses, nurse assistants, etc. Very helpful after I delivered my third baby at this hospital. I have gave birth three times at this hospital and I have no complaints regarding the medical attention, treatment, and the care I received there. Moreover, the nurses helped me take care of my daughter because she was colicky and during I was there I heard “we are here to help you, I’ll take care of her, I will give her a bath and you can take a rest and sleep. You need to rest, anything we can do for you, just let us know”. Thank you so much for the care, the attention and the humanity everyone had with me🙏

This November will mark 17 years since my by-pass surgery by Dr Steven Boyce and the excellent care I received by the nurses and staff attending. I cannot say enough about each and every person there in helping me recover. I’ve been doing well all these years later. You all were remarkable and your individual personalities and interactions with me were just right! Thank you all.

Other than a bit of delay in receiving the link and not being able to reach a tech person to ensure the virtual appointment was still on,, the virtual appointment was Excellent! Dr. Berkey was thorough, responded to all our inquiries (as my spouse and adult daughter were also on the call) and extended a genuine sense of comfort that my care and upcoming work up and surgery are all in good hands and all aspects of my unique medical history will be taken into consideration to insure the best possible outcome.

Two years ago I was a patient having a heart valve replacement. My first visit was to ascertain whether or not I could have the procedure via my femoral artery instead of an open chest procedure. Luckily I could. The second visit was for the procedure itself. Every contact with hospital personnel was positive. I cannot think of anything that could have made it better. I would not hesitate to recommend this hospital.

They have good doctors here, my ID doctor and or doctors are outstanding, and I'm very satisfied with there service with keeping me well, I didn't have a good experience in labor and delivery. Keep in mind there are endless students, so you might be used as a spearmint if you don't speak up front on who you would like to work with. Do your own research.

I know longer use Medstar Washington Hospital Center, my wife and I encountered an extremely bad experience with Hospital and ER staff that was never really taken care of and as a result i wad severely punished medically. Things manipulated, covered up and we were made to appear to be a problem. Things were not justly handled or compensated according to the facilities protocols. We're cautious if ever we are forced to use WHC facility for medical care in anyway, but we avoid it all cost. We pray for the staff and doctors involved 🙏🏿 but no longer desire to go there, the trauma is too great from what was put upon us and how we were treated, as a black elderly handicap couple, ♿️.

I had a wonderful experience at the Med Star Washington Hospital Center yesterday, with those responsible, respectful Doctors, nurses, receptionist and securities officers. Whom were willing to help me move around smoothly in the hospital to make my appointment possible and to be on time. My treatment scheduled plan was on time as planned. I was treated with dignity, my stay with the Surgeons was on point, they explained to me in the simplest format about my treatment plan, making me understand every detail which was very satisfying and appreciated. Thanks for all your great services at the Med Star Washington, Hospital Center, what a wonderful place to be. Sincerely, Yours Client P.U.D.A.

My care was great. The doctors and triage nurse showed interest in me. Staff related to me as a whole person, not just a body. I was directed at reception to the right room but the texted instructions were incorrect. That was frustrating. Wait time was under 10 minutes. I was able to get the flu shot and was out in about an hour. Excellent.

My review is in no way a reflection for the outstanding service received. The entire staff of nurses, doctors, and admin staff were absolutely amazing! This review is for the facility itself. My daughter delivered here in November and the postpartum rooms were dark, gloomy and void of any happiness. The bathroom was absolutely disgusting!! Mold enveloped the shower. After having a baby one should feel comfortable enjoying a hot shower in a clean, well sanitized facility. That was not the case. I hate to say this, but my daghter did NOT take a shower. She resolved to taking a "bird bath" for her two day stay after giving birth. Absolutely unacceptable!!! Washington Hospital Center should be ashamed AND must do better!! I have photos, but there is no option to attach.

I am not a challenging rebuilding of jaw surgery person, rather my jaw shows a bi-product of my cancer. Washington Hospital Center dental experts, beginning with Dr Obeid, have been willing to monitor a protrusion of my jaw bone and tingling in my gum. They have given me an antibiotic when my mouth warranted help. My oncologist and I great appreciate their assistance.
