Currently pregnant with my first and being seen at the OB clinic here. Communication is absolutely shameful. Was told I would receive a call about some test results. Waited two weeks so as to not be impatient before calling to ask and was told that those results couldn't be discussed over the phone (???). That was after having waited hours to be called back since, for all the times I've called the nurse's line, I've had an actual human pick up exactly once. Lady on the phone also told me I could find the results online, where it ended up saying that the results were posted elsewhere (???). Called back immediately after, of course to no answer. Left a message, which the machine assured me would be returned within the next 72 hours. It was never returned. Ended up not getting the test results until the next in person appointment about a month later. If that's what I'd known would happen from the start, fine, but I was told otherwise and was incredibly stressed about it waiting for a response as a result. Tried to call the patient relations line after this experience. Suitable to the care I'd received thus far, no one picked up. Got a call back a few hours later that I was unable to answer. Called back when I could, left another message, and (surprise!) never received a call back. Over the weekend I tried to sign up for their prenatal classes, but the website to do so didn't seem to be functioning correctly. Of course, there was no pertinent contact info on the page (just the number for the hospital as a whole), no direct phone number or email. So I called the number that was there, got transferred to a department that has absolutely nothing to do with the classes, got transferred from there to a machine asking me to leave a message with goodness knows who. Decided to call the OB desk, wherein the lady who picked up seemed immediately annoyed to have to answer the phone and quickly dismissed me over to the nurse's line. This is the one and only time a person has actually picked up. The excitement of that was short lived since she told me that she also didn't know anything to do with the classes. She took down my information and said someone would call me back. While this was only a little bit ago, I have little to no hope about actually receiving a call back and being able to attend any classes. Oh, and that's to say nothing of the time I called their 'emergency line' ("acute care clinic") and didn't receive a call for about 4 or 5 hours, at which point I was already in the Emergency Room with an IV in my arm. I'd say that the quality of care has been atrocious, but that might imply that there was any care present at all. Dealing with this hospital has caused far more stress than the pregnancy itself. Here's hoping I can get my care transferred because I truly just can't stand dealing with them anymore.

Absolutely love this place! If anything is going to keep me here it's going to be Walter Reed. Amazing care from the Dr's down to the administration everyone is very caring. What was taking my last Dr to try and diagnose in Oklahoma over 8 months my Dr here found the issue in just 1 visit and we went forward with a rigorous treatment plan and it's only been 2 days and I can read again with severe pain! So grateful for everyone here! Also absolutely love the many people that play such beautiful music on the open to anyone piano. This is such a relaxing thing to listen to while waiting for prescriptions.

I’m going to announce that sadly this is not a good review. I wish I could have said something different. I’ve been trying to get an appointment there for over a month now. I’ve made more than 10 calls and it’s back to square one every time. After much observation, I realize that No one there knows anything about the system nor do they communicate with each other from one department to another. That has been made evident as I have left messages, presented referral information, filled out forms and spoke to the manager and coordinators. I don’t know what is going on there but I have lost confidence in their ability to help my daughter who urgently needs care.

I’m a nurse and I’m appalled at how this place runs. Currently here and my husband is having a major 4-6 hour surgery and I’m not allowed to go back to anesthesia holding with him to ask questions per Covid restrictions. An employee just pointed me in the direction of surgery waiting room and said it’s right there. Nothing like you will get a call, here is a number to watch a board to show where he is at, someone will update etc. all because of Covid restrictions. I work at the largest Level 1 trauma center in Virginia and our Covid policies are 10x better than here. Also, their “updated” Covid policy is from December 2021. Not acceptable.

Place has gone downhill in access and service over the past couple years. So many people using the facility everything is jammed way over capacity— putting simple math together it is certainly observable that much much more than active military, retirees and their direct dependents (which the hospital is intended for) are using things. Or maybe the law changed over the last couple years. It’s like USAA, which used to be for military members and now you just need to say you know some distant fifth cousin who you never knew you knew. At least that’s my perception. I wonder if congressional staff have looked closer.

I recently had the opportunity to visit Walter Reed National Medical Center for a range of healthcare needs, including radiology, dermatology and nutritional guidance. I must say that my experience at this medical center was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment I arrived, I was impressed with the level of professionalism, expertise, and compassion displayed by the entire staff. The radiology department is truly outstanding. The technicians are highly skilled and knowledgeable, ensuring accurate and timely diagnosis through their state-of-the-art equipment and advanced imaging techniques. The dermatology services at this medical center were second to none. The dermatologist was an expert in his field, and his wealth of knowledge and experience is evident in his thorough examination. Furthermore, I had the pleasure of consulting with a nutritionist at Walter Reed and his expertise and guidance were invaluable in helping me make important dietary adjustments and developing a healthier lifestyle. All of the doctors and technicians listened attentively to my concerns and provided me with personalized solutions. Their professionalism, coupled with their friendly and caring demeanor, created a positive and comfortable environment during my visit. Overall, I highly recommend Walter Reed National Medical Center for its outstanding services. The doctors and staff excel in their respective fields, ensuring exceptional care and providing patients with a positive experience. Whether you require diagnostic imaging, dermatologist treatments, or nutritional guidance, you can trust the expertise and dedication of the professionals at Walter Reed National Medical Center.

I am senior physician and in spite of this, I have gone through HELL trying to get through to GI clinic and Sleep Disorders clinics. NO ONE RETURNS CALLS! It is embarrassing to have to write this but I have had enough. I have still not received a critical lab report from my doctor who never contacted me to relay the results. Patient representative office does not return calls. So why do the clinics and Patient Relations office lead patients on by telling them to leave messages "to be returned"? Also the online system is difficult to navigate and super complicated to follow. Going thru a goat chase to get a MPS exercise test filling out volumes of info online only to get cut off with limited online time allowed. The same questions are asked over and over. Had a heck of a time getting anyone to schedule an ultrasound earlier last year as again no one answered the phone or returned calls. The phone system does not work! What has happened to the medical system that I worked in for two decades? Chief of Staff office called after no reply from Patient Rep Office with no contact back even though I was told the CoS would call me back to discuss my serious concerns about WRNMMC. Most check ins done by patient at kiosk while staff at times sit chatting idly at front desk without so much as a greeting. There is nothing "patient centered" in the above experiences. Shame on your hospital. No wonder folks are going to Johns Hopkins and concierge medicine. Leadership please call the above 3 clinics and see for yourself and have each clinic call their own clinic numbers and see the run around patients are given. It's not of the quality of the long gone WRAMC of the past.....

Unfortunately, we often tend to only post a review when we've had a not so great experience; however, I wanted to take a minute and share a positive one! On Christmas day, I was seen by the ER for a previous eye injury. The staff was very professional, kind and compassionate. I ended up having to be seen by the on-call Ophthalmologist (Dr. Cox) who kindly came in to further assess my injury. He too was wonderful, knowledgeable and super kind! I'm a retired vet as well as a southern girl and have always thought about relocating down south but the above reasons are a few of the main reasons that keeps me in this area...Walter Reed Bethesda, in my opinion, has always been top-notch when it comes to providing unsurpassed healthcare to its active duty as well as veterans, like myself!

I bought my house to be near WRNMMC, knowing my father (service member USAF) and mother would need to be close to the facilities. I was there 24/7 for his last 3 days. Watching a military officer pass away in the caring arms of WRNMMC was an honor. 8 years later when my mother could no longer care for herself she came to my home, which is 15 minutes from the ER at WR. Four times she suffered strokes in my living room, each time I got her to the ER in less 19 minutes and each time they had her in OR in less than 2 minutes... they saved her life 3 times. Each time we brought her back home within 2 days. The last stroke was too much. The care and hope WR provided in her final days, hours, minutes brought me and my family great comfort...but her time had come. Being an old school USAF dependent, I refer to the pilot call "Flame out". I will never forget the teams of brilliant Dr's, Nurses, Assistants, cleaning crews, cooks, and lastly... I want to thank the administrators who looked over the needs of all. When my mother passed, so did my affiliation to the military. I was born on a base, raised overseas on bases from Africa to Japan for most of my 18 years, and educated by the DoD on military bases. That education led to me having experienced successful civilian life beyond my expectations. I owe much to my country, the U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force...

I don't usually leave reviews but I felt this time that I had to. I was attempting to get a pass from visitor center at Walter Reed because I had left my Work ID at home. Inside, the staff were extremely rude and acted like I was bothering them or taking their time. there was no one in the office but they still gave me a hard time to get a pass. I had all my paper work but they insisted that I couldn't get a pass even when I asked what other information I can provide. This was my first time in three years that I had left my ID to get in. So I was shocked how unprofessional they treat staff and civilians.

If you want doctors that apply any degree of critical thinking to their decisions this is not the place to go. If something isn't black and white out of a medical textbook everyone will play hot potato with any decision to be made. They will start patients on new medications inpatient but then fail to supply any at time of discharge.

This place is only marginally better than Kimbrough on Ft. Meade (the counterpart for the region). You can get an appointment here in a reasonable amount of time, but other services here will take a very long time. One of the issues I had with my PCM, Dr. Goucher was that she could not remember who I was even after working closely with me for about half a year, and diagnosing me with blood cancer. I understand military doctors see a lot of people, but when you work with someone closely for so long and then just forget them like that, there is a serious lack of empathy here. I scheduled a follow up appointment with her (as she instructed) for three months after my six months of consecutive bi-weekly care and when that appointment came she did not know why I was there and was dismissive about my cancer related concern. Instead she decided to harp on a complaint of anxiety in my medical record which was more than 4 years old, but not my recent cancer diagnosis (which is why I was there in the first place). This place provides shotgun healthcare. I can't speak to a provider that isn't doctor Goucher, but if you are assigned her just know she is forgetful and dismissive of your care.

Not only is it a pain to drive 2 hours away as active duty but the service and care is not good at all. The hoops you have to go through just to get an appointment and you have to keep reaping just to get another appointment or service. I completely understand what our Veterans go through because as an active duty serviceman it has been a nightmare dealing with medical centers in Maryland. We have preferences and the service is still mediocre. The fact that you can talk to someone there, have a problem and them not care how to help you take care of it is the reason why service member HATE dealing with medical. Nothing has changed for me in over 20 years!

Walter Reed national hospital LAB is one of the worst places on earth. Came here to do a special sample, on the self check on they did not have the test I needed so I took a general ticket, wanted for 30 minutes before anyone even came out, a person came out made eye contact with me standing by the desk and then they walked away. This is an absolute joke with no regard to anyone's time. Useless after waiting for 45 minutes I decided to walk in the back and talk to two people sitting doing NOTHING, to finally find out I needed to go to another building. Also this was the lab in America building. Also the military staff that work here have a much better attitude and customer support skills then the civ, even tho the civ get paid more.

We had a terrible experience at this hospital. SO many issues. Several of the staff from several floors couldn’t even tell us where we needed to go. We went to every single floor wandering around asking staff for help and finally found one that helped. We were greeted with attitude on how we should’ve gotten there faster due to the nature of the emergency(literally impossible). FOR SIX HOURS the only thing that happened was labs were drawn (no orders put in so they threw the blood away) and a brief exam was done. We were told after six long hours to “come back tomorrow” for the shot she needed since the doctor wouldn’t put the order in. Absolutely ridiculous!!!! Extremely unprofessional staff that wasted our time. We will never return.

This is one of the best hospital I have been too. Plan to stay all day if you go to the ER. Make sure you bring something to eat and drink. Once you go to the back, the care is excellent.

Stay away from Walter Reed Hospital with your life. Do not let anyone you know or love go here. It is run by students that do not know what they are doing and pretend they are doctors when they are actually students. Every time we called to check on our son from the Naval Academy we got a different answer and once we got him home under proper care away from medications he is just fine.

I came to Walter Reed for my annual check and experienced excellent customer service all around . Got there early at 830 am for a 915 appointment and right away I was brought in for vitals, etc. Primary Doctor who listened to all my concerns and made sure all were covered. Their walk in Immunization dept and Lab dept were very efficient. I received service within 10 minutes after checking in. Had to check out the cafeteria of course, good food and great prices. 30 minutes after my blood work, I received a call from my Doctor saying my hemoglobin is extremely low and was sent to the ER for blood transfusion. Needless to say I ended up at the ER that day. I was so surprised to get the lab results that fast and have they not notified me right away, it would have costed me my life. Luckily I was still in the hospital when I was notified. ER staff was also excellent from front desk to doctors to nurses . This hospital made me feel cared for and everyone that I engaged with were all very kind and efficient. I wish I can mention all 22 staff and the ones behind the scenes. Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart for the amazing caring service. You are all very much appreciated. Thank you.

Whenever my husband got his surgery here Walter Reed was great. I went today since I have epilepsy and trying to get license. They put my on meds which is fine, and they did everything correctly besides one thing. The actually doctor told me to my face that I was lying and also in front of my husband. So if you need a neurologist but be careful with which doctor you get. No female Asian.

This review is only for the Coumadin Clinic. As someone who has been on Coumadin since 2007, I've seen a number of nurses and doctors come and go. Over the past few years it appears that they have given this job to the doctors that have the worst "bedside" manners. After listening to yet another cranky, ill tempered doctor call me with my INR results, I've given up and will look for an alternative.

Being located in DC, and considering yourselves the premier medical facility for the United States means nothing if no one ever answers the phone. Patient care and access to care should be the number one priority. Unfortunately, when no one ever responds to messages or bothers to answer the phone, it just means you’re another brick building funded by the government that does not actually do anything. Do better. Since I couldn’t get a call back I now need to take my wife to the ER. Screw your Walter Reed

This facility is never available to contact. It took a month of hassling and pestering to schedule an appointment for a floroscopy. Was told to go to Kimbrough for the shot, then walter reed for the MRI. Kimbrough says they don't do the floroscopy shot, it's all done at Walter Reed. Called the radiology dept. at Walter Reed to get the issue sorted out and sat on the phone for nearly an hour with no response. The issue still remains and there is no direction on how to reschedule since nobody will pick up a phone or answer an email.

When you can reach them through the hospital pediatrics at WRNMMC are fantastic. Ms. Putney the clinic supervisor and head nurse is a Jack of all trades frequently manning the front desk and doing whatever needs to be done for their patients. We’ve lived a hour away for years, and given how hard care is to get in the region, we’ve always stayed with WRNMMC Peds and driven the distance because they deliver.

Nearly two months ago I was admitted to the Neurology Department here. I had gone into my local military hospital in Portsmouth VA presenting with slight dizziness. After sever scans it was discovered that I have a tumor on the top of my brain stem and required emergent brain surgery to relieve the pressure in my head. After that surgery I was transported to Walter Reed for a second surgery. I MUST STRESS that I went into the ER that day thinking I may have some type of ear infection, and assumed that was causing my dizziness. Merely a few hours later I was being told I have a brain tumor, not sure if its cancer or not (we later determined it was NOT thank God) and I required emergent brain surgery. I have a wife, and two small children. All I thought about was dying, leaving my babies behind so young. I myself, am a young man who never thought I would be faced with this type of medical scenario at this point in my life. Alas, I was! And all who read this please head my words, THIS HOSPITAL is without a doubt the most incredible medical facility I could ever have hoped to give me treatment. Not just the surgeons, but the nurses, the orderlies, everyone. I cried, for over a day, non-stop begging for them to save my life, to get me home to my babies. I've never begged for anything like this before, I literally clung to the hands, and the sleeves, and the arms of every nurse I had, every doctor I saw and cried. I begged them to make sure if I died that they would make sure my wife and kids were ok, that they help them with the news. EVERY SINGLE STAFF MEMBER, held my hand, looked in my eyes and was present for me. I mean seriously I've never been cared for in this way in any hospital. Not to mention the exceptional surgeons, who are in my opinion some of the best in the world. The care, the focus, the dedication to excellence...it shown through every single member of that staff. It brings me to tears of pride and joy as I write this, that I was loved and cared for so well by complete strangers. It was beyond medicine, it was beyond a normal hospital experience. Truly.

My visit with Dr. Oyakhi Omoike in physical therapy and Dr. Abraham Sabersky in Nerosurgery was one of the most pleasant and productive medical experiences that I have had in some 72 years. Dr. O took the time to explain my situation after my recovery and physical therapies that I all ready received. He is very good and I would recommend him to anyone. Dr. Sabersky was my surgeon for surgery on my spine last year and all my followups with him have been outstanding. He is a great surgeon and I would recommend him to anyone. Thank you Dr. Sabersky and Dr Omoike, Lawrence Westcott

Experience at the ER was good, although there was nobody ahead of me to generate a wait time. Staff was pleasant, and I was in and out within about 2 hours. Then came the pharmacy…what a mess. Almost 2 hours in, and they are still (supposedly) filling my prescription. There are only about 10 people here, I’m not sure why it takes 2 hours to fill 10 prescriptions. And, for the first time in my career, my prescription can’t be sent off base. I could have gotten this filled at CVS 2 hours ago, but instead I’m waiting for this inefficient pharmacy to fill my prescription. Frustrating!

I'd give this place negative stars if such was possible!!! Stay away if you can, especially if you are suffering from slightly complex or secondary type medical challenges. They are great at taking care of primary level symptoms for the young and healthy. Others, good luck! Oh and the bureaucracy is senseless. Despite these shortcomings they will not allow you to get to the network, only if they absolutely have to... They want to keep this jobs program going... Again, stay away!

I was seen after unusal bleeding at work and had not had a cycle in 19 months. I was extreamly tired and was found to have a uterine polyp. I was sceen in OBYN surgery and had to arrive two days prior for blood tests to include type and match if i needed any transfusion. All went well and every part of the consult with doctor to meeting my surgeon. Everyone who saw me from check in to people who took my vitals were very compassionate and told me what was to happen next. As a vet and former medical tech. I can not say enough good of the care I received my Doctor saw me before procedure and because of being asleep I am not shore also after? (I saw him after proceddure when i sat up awake). The female surgeon on team in OB/GYN listened to my family history of cancer mother and in my father and took good notes.I have to say there was a follow up phone call to my home the next day . i turned red and went to Washington ER two days after surgery but it all went off well. I was amazed at the little pain I felt but for about three weeks I felt a bit tender inside. The most comfort was the gentile pace and sound of calm talking before and after my surgery. The staff ,nurses and doctors here are amazing and I felt so greatfull for all of there calm demenior and actions. In Past had been stationed over seas for a while and felt i had been treated like a person not just a Soldier number or Airman number . I felt I mattered and am greatfull. We forget at times we matter..as enlisted work and are not just a number we have lives that have very much mattered .W e also have family neighbors, friends and neighborhoods even if most of our family has passed.I was 55 at this time last Jan 22, 2022.

I've had to use the ER too many times the past few years, and I have always had only short waits to be taken to a room, but 1-2 hours to see a physician, and usually end up admitted after a 8-hour stay in the ER room. I can say that I have been sick quite a few times, but the staff always takes care of my issues and keeps me comfortable.
