Absolutely love this place. The soup dumplings are amazing. We usually get 2 orders of soup dumplings along with an order of salt and pepper pork chops and it's the perfect balance. We've been going here for awhile and they seemed to recently purchase custom chops sticks, plates, and tea cups which may be small but makes me know they take pride in their product. Food has also increased in quality and if they're reading this I just want to say I appreciate your hard work. Keep up the great work!

Talk about a hole in a wall. BUT that’s where u usually find the good places. Don’t expect 5 star services here as they are not nor do they advertise to be. Some of the reviews are a bit obnoxious but they can’t please everyone all the times. It’s more of a local place and the locals get it. Get seated grab their menu from the counter. Circle what you want and give back to the counter. You could wait for the wait service to come and pick it up from you too. The specials are on the wall in English and Chinese so don’t worry. Same for the menu. For starters get the soup dumplings. After all the place is called Shanghai Bun. It’s pork only and they don’t do crab version so don’t ask. The rice cake with pickled vegetables are great. Beef Chow Fun is another basic but classic dish of ours. Their Chicken leg on Rice has a lint of lemon in it but makes the dish yummy. The tea egg that’s included looks disturbing but it tastes great. Trust me you gotta try it once. Their Singapore Chow Mei Fun is also another fav of ours. It’s curry based but not spicy. its a small quaint place can accommodate about 30-40 people tops. We do a lot of take out from them. Been going here for almost 6 years after my cousin from Wyckoff mentioned it.

We usually come here for the Shanghai soup dumplings and noodle soup, which are pretty solid choices. This time we got the celery beef, 3 cup chicken, and fried rice. It was ok, but didn't really hit the spot. The celery beef was mostly celery, the 3 cup chicken was overcooked, and the fried rice was a little bland.

I ordered from this place on Grubhub last night. It was the most amazing flavorful food !!! So high quality. It is not like your typical fast food Chinese. All the ingredients are fresh the dumplings are amazing! I ordered soup and the broth had so much depth and flavor. This place is definitely a hidden gem I’m glad I discovered!!

Food was crazy expensive and almost all of it was bad. Scallion pancake was thick and stale, meat was chewy and poor quality, soup dumplings were stale. Ive never left reviews before but this one bothered me. Didn’t even get fortune cookies how could you do me like that?

From a food and price perspective, this place is hard to beat. Big portions of tasty and cheap food. The spicy beef noodle soup had flavorful broth and really good beef. The lo mein was super tasty as well as the mini wonton soup. We also got the soup dumplings, which are always delicious. If you’re there to dine in, you check off on the menu what you want and can grab your own drinks. The place was crazy busy for a Monday and now I know why!

Food was great but seems we were ignored a bit until other groups left. Took almost 20 minutes for them to pay attention to us and take our order. We had to grab our own menus and just sit patiently and wait. The food was great and I would eat there again, probably a take out order though.

Ordered take out from Shanghai Bun for the first time. Great place for authentic casual Chinese food. Very efficient! Next time will try dining in. Highly recommend their steamed pork dumplings.

Omg! I loved this place precovid and I still love it. On my way home from the airport. Stopped to enjoy all the wonderful dishes. Started with chicken mustard green soup. the chicken is tender and mustard greens fresh. Shanghai fried rice always makes me excited. The flavors are worth every bit. String beans can never go wrong. They are cooked to perfection. Dumplings are just the right size to enjoy. Tried the Peking pork chops...delicious and tender...the whole plate was gone so fast....two things that I tried was the spicy cucumber and scallion pancakes....will repeat scallion pancakes again and again fried perfectly. I can't wait to return....this place really makes you happy when you leave

We like most of foods in this restaurant. However, the service is not good, especially the service from the owner’s wife. I have a couple of bad experience with her while I was dining in. First time she spilled the hot sauce oil on my jacket. I did not say anything. However, she did not apologize for that but kept saying that the reason she spilled oil on my jacket was because she was trying to put the chair at the table. Yes, she’s was trying to put a chair for me. However, that’s not the excuse that she spilled the oil on my jacket without apologize. Second bad experience was that bean curbs in the noodles tasted sour. So I told her the bean curbs are not fresh. I did not ask her to pay me another bowl of noodles. I just wanted to let her know the problem. She was pissed and kept saying “no, they are fresh. We have been eating this today whole day.” it became so ridiculous that the owner’s wife refused to accept the problem and with a bad attitude. From that time on, I decided that I would never go to this restaurant. And I also told my friends about the problem.

Been eating and ordering here for YEARS… used to go in but usually i just get takeouts The 5 star is purely for the shredded beef and peppers noodle soup…it is absolutely crack to me… add some vinegar to that bish and go ham! Soup dumplings is ok locally ,but if you really want the best soup dumplings around mid jersey you would have to go to edison Recently tried their zhajiangmian but its too sweet for me

Authentic Chinese family restaurant, atmosphere included(that's how you know it's legit); the beer chicken was just like the kind I had growing up, they have chinese sodas/drinks, tea; the flat noodles, soup dumplings, everything we had was amazing. Could not recommend more for anyone looking for authentic Chinese cuisine.

I love this restaurant's food, it's really good. I'm not fond of very spicy Chinese food, this restaurant provide mild flavor as well as spicy option. Shanghai fried rice is good option to order, and if you like salty sweet flavor, you can order eggplant with garlic sauce. Soup dumpling was ok. I'll try different dishes next time.

Best place to go for authentic Chinese food in the area. No other place compares until you get to Edison or Princeton. Food is fantastic and cooked wonderfully every time. Most people typically take out since there is little seating and underwhelming atmosphere inside. Despite this, it is still the best you can get.

Rude manager. Ordered takeout there on a holiday and waited three hours. Had the kids in the car. When I asked they kept saying soon the order will be done. Finally I said it’s not nice lying to customers telling them it will be soon or in 30 mins when the order is nowhere near finished and you have orders backed up. He said, “sure next time you call I will tell you two hours.” After that long of a wait they didn’t even have everything I ordered. Offered no apologies.

This place is the best. Most authentic Chinese you can get in the area. Real soup buns and the actual soup is also incredible.

The pan fried pork buns and dumplings are delicious, as are the noodle and rice dishes. Must try the special dishes you can't find in other NJ Chinese shops like spicy fish filets in hot bean sauce and bean curd with black mushrooms and baby bok choy. Try the special value lunches M-F, closed Tuesday. Menu on website.

Always a solid move for a quick bite of authentic, tasty Shanghai food. It’s definitely a dive though so don’t expect table cloths or a wait staff. That said, everyone is friendly and eager to help. They could do with with new furniture as some of the booths, tables, and chairs are showing their age. Also, this last time we were there, everything seemed to be a little sticky but that may be more of a humidity thing. Will definitely be returning

Wow. This place was amazing! I am still drooling in delight from the spicy wontons, the steamed pork buns, and the mustard greens! I also had the vegetable soup and it was nourishing and the veggies were so fresh. I can’t wait to try even more delicious dishes next time! Definitely our new go-to Chinese restaurant! It’s a tiny place but don’t be fooled- if you are looking for the best Chinese cuisine around- definitely go here!
