    I won’t be renting with AVIS again. It took me over an hour to get my rental when I arrived. When I got the car, the tire pressure on all but one of the tires was way too low so when I ended up hitting a pothole, the tire blew. It took AVIS’s roadside assistance so long to try and get someone to me to change the tire, a cop came by and called the local roadside assistance for me before AVIS could even find anyone. After I got the spare I had to go put air in all the tires myself. Also, the toll box in the car was faulty. I was told to keep the box closed when I go through tolls so it wouldn’t scan at toll booths and I would have to pay cash, but almost every toll booth I went through, it got scanned with the box still closed. So be prepared to have to call customer service to get your money back for any tolls you incur while you have the car. I honestly wish I spent the extra money to use Hertz or Enterprise instead. If you can avoid it, I would use a different rental car service.

    Not happy with the car cleanliness and overall mechanical condition. strange noise from the rear wheel area. 1 counter person on the return to Newark international at 5:30 am and she didn't seem to want to be there either. 38 minutes from dropping the car off to getting a receipt. Be sure to get a receipt. Avis has shown me still in rental, even AFTER I have returned the car and rented another one back in my home state from Avis. I don't complain, so I know this morning was a pain in the...

    Really poor experience right from the start. We waited 45mins to collect a prebooked car. The queue was really slow moving, definitely not enough staff on the counter as we waited ages. We were then given a smaller car than we booked which was a pain as we were three adults with three large suitcases so we had to squeeze everything in. The car overwhelmingly stank of pot which gave us all headaches. The car was also dirty inside as there were stains over the seats. Also we were told the keys were in the car but after looking for ages we soon found them stuffed down the side on the passenger seat and the centre console (shown in photo.) We made a prior agreement to return the car with a full tank which we did but were then still charged a fuel surcharge which we then had to stand in the slow queue again to query this and get this removed. (The person who removed this was happy to help.) After this experience we are unlikely to use or recommend Avis in Newark.

    Dirty cars, every time I have rented there. 07/18/21. Quick update: I am waiting in a long line on a Saturday afternoon and they have no cars, due to being short staffed. Avis, get this folks some help, please! They are trying and doing their best, under the circumstances.

    I needed a larger car last minute and this Avis had the best deal and a bunch of cars to choose from. They also let me return the car car back to Newark airport which made it very convenient for me and my family. I will definitely check them out next time I’m in New Jersey again

    I reserved a compact car at the Avis at Newark airport. I was given and SUV with 58,000 miles. The interior was dirty. The exterior was dirty. Rims were damaged. All tires had lower than manufacturers recommended tire pressure of 33psi. One tire had a continous leak. All tires were missing the caps on the air valves. This is an indication that someone knew there was a problem with the tires. I had to air up my tire 3 times in the rain. Newark Avis put my safety at risk. I had to drive to another Avis location to exchange my vehicle. This is the only bad experience I have had at any car rental location.

    Located off site. When you arrive at the airport,follow the car rental signs all the way to the bottom floor. Go out the doors cross the street and look for number 15. That will lead right to the airport shuttle bus. About a 9 minute ride. The lobby was pretty empty on Sunday morning. Was able to walk right up to the counter. We had a small suv-they we’re sold out so automatic upgrade to midsize. Very straightforward process. We found the car and we’re on our way no problems.

    New location is convenient, especially if you fly American. I had a horrible time with the car selection, especially being preferred and prepaid. When I arrived my name was not on the list, and the car they gave me was not the one listed on my app. One car had a check engine light the other had the USB ports not working. In a garage full of cars I kept getting the worst ones. First bad Avis experience. Newark Aport, terminal 1

    The service provided were very poor. Upon arriving at the Newark Avis preferred counter to pick up the car, I encountered multiple issues. Initially, they gave me a car that reeked of smoke. When I requested a different car, the replacement was unclean, having not been properly serviced after the previous customer returned it. After several exchanges, I finally received a car with check engine lights on and an overdue oil change. The counter staff were rude when I reported this issue. The fifth car, a Pacifica, was also dirty, but I accepted it due to exhaustion from dealing with the front desk. This entire experience was terrible, especially considering I paid $200 for a 3-day rental. Upon returning the car on December 12th, the contract remained open, and charges continued to be deducted from my account. When I contacted Avis customer service to address this, I had a distressing encounter with the representative, Ignacio, who was rude, shouted, and abruptly ended the call. Consequently, I no longer wish to use Avis rental car services. Despite being an Avis preferred member, my overall experience was exceedingly disappointing, and it appears that Avis doesn't prioritize customer satisfaction.

    I rented from Avis at Newark. The first person could not have cared less. I got a car with expired registration, maintenance warning and a Texas Toll Tag. No way that was going to work. The person who swapped me to a different car was one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. Drop off was done at 0433. No one checked the car in. We had to add a day. The rate charged was 1.5 the weekly rate per day. That is in the contract, but another annoying extra. There were several unexpected fees. The toll charges worked out well, but I found out later I can use my existing toll tag and add my rental car. That was another fee I could have saved. This was our first car rental in years. No guarantee I go back with Avis. I give Avis a 4/5 for the second person who swapped cars. Also, Avis has responded to this post. I never expected that. Good luck

    Even though the line was long when I showed up to pick up my car, it went pretty quickly. The woman who assisted me was by far one of the nicest people I have encountered in a customer service position. So polite, helpful, and cheerful (really wish I could remember her name, she was awesome!!). Dropping off the car was also a seamless experience.

    In 40 years of renting cars, I have never been given a car with 62,000 miles on it. The car was worn. The right rear quarter panel was scuffed. The driver's armrest had the finish all worn off of it. The interior of the windshield was not well cleaned so when driving into the sun later in the day, there were large areas of glare. The high beams did not appear to be working. I expected more from a large national car rental firm especially when it cost me over $1000 for a 3 day rental. If we had not been in a rush, due to a late flight and trying to get to a funeral on time, I would have gone back in to request a different car considering there were plenty on the lot. The car ran well and got us back and forth so I will give 2 stars. After a polite but ineffective response from Avis socialinfo customer service, I've dropped the review to 1 star. There was no admission to the condition of the vehicle, only that they keep renting cars up to some unspecified number of miles, implying to me at least that condition did not matter. When I rent a car, I expect it to be in good enough condition that I would consider purchasing it if I was looking at it as a used car. I do not expect a worn out interior and scuffed up body. When I respond to a request for my opinion on the rental, I do not expect to be told that I could have gone in and complained and asked for another vehicle. I had already stated clearly in my review to Avis that we were late for a funeral. Do you really think I am going to walk into the church and say, sorry for being late everybody, but I thought it was more important for me to get a reasonable car versus being here on time for all of you?

    Best rental experience I’ve ever had (and I have rented a few hundred times!) Fast, efficient and easy. No standing in line to sign a stack of papers. Received a text message with instructions/location and went directly to the vehicle. Showed license and scanned QR at the exit gate. Return was fast and east. Friendly service with a smile. I wish all companies were this efficient. I will definitely rent with Avis again.

    I had a really good experience at this Avis. Efficiency was the word of the day. They dealt with me very promptly and professionally. I was in and out in just a few minutes with the car I needed, that's exactly what I need when renting a car. The person working the barrier to exit the lot was also really good and was joking with me as he dealt with me. Similarly returning was good and the employee that checked my car back in was really nice and really efficient (also checked I hadn't forgotten anything which is a nice touch)

    I appreciate being a Avis preferred member for the ability to choose my car ahead of time, as well as the shorter lines during pick up. However, I did request an eight passenger vehicle, and only received one that seats seven. As a mama of five this did cause some concern over the holidays as we were not able to allow anyone else to drive with us. I understand that not many families have 5 children but it’s important to offer what is requested and purchased.

    Very disappointed with picking up the car at Newark it took 2.5 hours by the time we were on our way not acceptable as a preferred customer, or any customer for that matter.I was upgraded super I thought, loaded the car with luggage for a 3 week trip. Switched on the ignition message the car needs an oil change went back to be offered an alternative car the one offered smaller than the group originally booked, went back given a nice vehicle started on our trip GPS previously ordered would not work, went back to Avis office no more GPS!!!!! So they then upgraded me to a vehicle with installed GPS. We are on our way after 2.5 hours. The car was not particularly clean, with several marks on the bodywork which I photographed. Half way through our trip the brakes started to get very noisy as if the brake pads were worn. Contacted Avis Albany told to visit Avis at Albany. The lady on the desk was rather unhelpful and would not listen just told me I had been upgraded to a higher group car. Anyway they had no vehicle with GPS or a GPS tablet so I decided to continue my trip in the existing vehicle as a gps was crucial. I feel Avis vehicles are not well maintained, that the staff don’t really care. This isn’t the first time we have encountered these sort of problems a few years ago we had a vehicle which again came up with a warning message oil change due at Avis San Francisco. Also Avis don’t seem to get it that many Europeans need a gps when touring, they just seem to say use your telephone, In our case GPS had been ordered and paid for 12months before our trip. On the flip side when returning the vehicle to JFK the young lady at the office was very helpful. I would like to escalate this to a formal complaint

    Excellent service when we rented the car in Newark, NJ and when we had to extend the rental time, the entire process was easy to accomplish. When we had to drive the car back to our home town, to be dropped off at the airport, the drop off process was wonderful. We even received a discount from the price quoted. It was such a surprise and delight and I would recommend AVIS to everyone. Thank you AVIS for making a nervous and otherwise scary experience such a pleasure.

    Overall, my experience was very good. At checkout, the customer service person was very personable and quick. She was able to work with my desires. The biggest issue was not with a person, but with the billing system. I rented a Kia K5, which has a fuel capacity of 14.8 gallons. Somehow, it was registered as departing the airport with 15.8 gallons, which suggests that it was overfilled. I returned with the tank at 14.8 gallons and, as a result, was charge $9.99 for the missing gallon of gas. I did get the money back, but it took me 30 minutes on the phone.

    Had a wonderful road trip to Niagara Fall, Washington DC, New Haven with Avis’s car. Condition of the car is excellent and returning was hassle-free. Thank you for the advise when we are receiving our car so that our trip can be so smooth. Thank you so much.

    Front-desk and pickup folks were kind and helpful. Confusion when picking up the vehicle and when leaving the Avis Parking lot. -- Inside of car smelled of perfume and cigarette smoke. -- Inside not clean. -- Message on dashboard claimed car needed maintenance. -- Left plastic trimming on outside left of car was loose -- Backseats were down. Please pay more attention to quality in the small things in the future and have pride in providing a good service.

    Disappointed in the cleanliness of the vehicle that was provided, it was far from clean. Windows, steering wheel shifter dirty tissues on the floor. One would think something like this should not happen especially with COVID 19 amongst us.

    Car neat and clean good looking brand new. 100% satisfied. But 1 counter person in Newark international at 12:45 pm and she wasn’t ready explain the additional charges, insurance, taxes. And she didn't seem to want to be there either. After dropping receipts shows lot of hidden charges top of online pricing it cost more than $70. Then I try to get explanation from customer service through phone after reaching home, he doesn't have time to listen and hang up phone before completing.

    It was a little challenging to get my rate adjusted when I arrived at the location due to the extremely long line. The clerks were all friend and professional. My rate was adjusted and my rental was great. My issue happened when I returned my vehicle and there wasn't an attendant to check me in. I was told that there was a sensor that registered the vehicle once it enters the gate. I arrived at 5:37am, which I rented it within 24 hrs but was charged for returning the vehicle back after 2AM the next day and charged $206 instead of $94. DO BETTER AVIS!!

    I prepaid for a 3-day rental. The vehicle provided at the Newark airport was in terrible condition. The floor carpet was untucked and just laying loosely on the front floorboards. The front tires were balding and howled on the highway. The upholstery in the rear passenger area was cut. The front fascia was loose. And the vehicle was provided with less than 1/2 a tank of fuel - which I didn't catch, so I filled it up prior to return. Normally I have a good experience with AVIS, but not here. Prepayment was $50 more than the rental fee, but of course, no refund for overpayment. I should have checked all of this before leaving the rental center, but I was in a hurry and trusted AVIS. Needless to say, that trust is now lost. Update on 9/12: I did get a reply from Avis requesting additional information, which I provided, and I'm waiting to hear back from them. Update: Although the initial response from AVIS was a templated apology, they did follow up and address my concerns.

    I have never rented from Avis before and the experience was just great. The staff was pleasant, and answered all my questions. I set it up online and went to the airport because that is the only 24 hour location I could find. My car was clean, ha been sign that said it was cleaned with Lysol and also fast. During drop off I met the manager Austin,also very pleasant. I will definitely rent from Avis again.

    Flawless service. Did rent Avis after a long time due to staying at home during pandemic. To my great surprise, the whole Avis team at the EWR airport did their best and provided excellent service from pick-up to drop-off. Car was clean and I felt very safe before getting in. Thank you EWR Avis team for making me happy.

    The staff were pleasant. The check in and out process was smooth. The car was well maintained and a pleasure to drive. Its good to know that the ne4xt time I purchase a rental I wont have to worry about missing my flight because of long lines or long check in/check out processes. The pricing was reasonable so overall a pleasant experience . I would rent from Avis again.
