Lovely old Fullers pub in a old village setting. Great peaceful outdoor seating to enjoy a beer or two. Really good service with a large range of quality food to choose from served by attentive friendly staff. Reasonably priced for what is top quality well presented ingredients. The on suite accommodation is very comfortable and the added touch of the complimentary tray was a nice touch. A short stroll down the lane you arrive on the banks of the river Thames where there is lovely walks. A special thank you to Dan the Pub manager for making our stay special. We will return......

Not a welcoming atmosphere, to say the least: the manner of the lady behind the bar was unfriendly to the point of rudeness when I called in for a drink on New Year's Day.This is a lovely looking old pub in a very scenic village - and I hoped its quaintness would be enhanced by a warm and friendly atmosphere inside. Unfortunately this was not the case.

It's a good pub but I feel it has allusions of being a decent restaurant. The basics are there but it just falls short and I'm not quite sure why. I tend to go now for a quick drink and maybe a starter when it's a sunny day.

So glad we visited this Inn. Love the atmosphere. Food was lovely. Although the fish and chips did not appear on tonight’s menu the chef was more than happy to prepare it for me. Service was great, staff friendly. If you visit Sonning it’s well with booking a table at this pub. Thanks to all the staff and a special thanks to the Chef for the lovely food. Steve

We arrived by river and had a wander round the village and settled on The Bull as being a likely spot! As it was a Sunday we took the precaution of booking a table and I am glad we did, it was buzzing! I had the Aged Parmesan Gnocchi and my OH had the Roast Beef. The food was delicious and the service attentive. I would definitely visit again if the river brings us this way!

Tasty food, well kept ales and lovely setting. Lots to see in the immediate area if you fancy a walk (long or short) before refreshments. Parking is a bit tricky but look to park a bit away and / or drop off and park.

Went for dinner with two friends whilst on the river. All the food was really excellent. Far better than a typical Fullers pub (not that that is a criticism). Would recommend. Our server was also very good.

Traditional pub in the centre of Sonning with plenty of outdoor seating. Visited on an impromptu local cycle trip and had a couple of drinks sitting outside in the sun, followed by dinner in the cosy interior. Good food, service and beer.

Really disappointed with the room. The carpet was filthy along with the bedside rug containing dead flies. Sweet packed at the back of bedside cabinet and the filth under the bed was disgusting. Only one plug socket worked where kettle was. Wrong fire safety instructions as to extinguisher locations on back of door. Toilet seat loose, toilet roll holder broken, shelf above sink had glass missing, toilet brush handle broken. The evening meal was disappointing as the mashed potatoes were cold and only got replaced by the time wee had finished everything else. Breakfast was far from great with burnt sausage and totally dried out bacon.

Myself and my two sisters visited The Bull in August 2023. I feel compelled to write a review as the food was SO delicious. I chose the fish pie and a lemon and rhubarb pudding. Both of these were exceptional. We will be visiting again - highly recommended.

A really beautiful pub in Sonning. The food was delicious. The wooden beams are just incredible, you feel like you’re stepping back in time.

Didn't stay at the hotel so can only really reviwe the pub. This is a really nice pub. Really old, traditional feel. A brilliant location and a lovely atmosphere.

My review is regarding the restaurant. It is over priced. My previous visits whhen I enjoyed fish and chips for £20 have been good, but to pay over £100 for an average 3 course meal (albeit on New Year's Eve) was very poor value.

What a wonderful find from a Google maps search for a pub in Sonning. We had a lunch after leaving Reading Crematorium. It was conveniently situated within a few miles. The food was great. I had corn fed chicken with a pasty, sauce and fresh kale. It was obvious they cared about the food. Staff were helpful and friendly and there was a good ambience. Very good experience.

On this one occasion, myself and my partner came for an evening meal. Elinor was very attentive and helpful during our visit, even checking if my small Merlot should be the listed size on the menu (175ml) or if I’d prefer the smaller 125ml, which I did so I am pleased she pointed it out and offered. Our food was outstanding - we had bread and marrow butter each, two starters, two mains, a dessert to share, a few drinks and a green tea - all was served very quickly despite it being a busy evening, but that did not affect the quality of the food or the service from Elinor and the other wait staff. A really lovely evening spent here - I’d highly recommend the sticky toffee pudding! Parking can be a bit difficult sometimes so always consider that when visiting, but otherwise a really great place to come to.

Lovely pub in Sonning, close to the Thames. Quite magical to walk to, from the Thames Path, past a church. Really well-preserved inside, with some cozy spots. Food is excellent, have eaten there a few times and never had a bad meal. Staff are really friendly and efficient. Large outdoor area too and dog friendly.

A very beautiful pub serving great food! There’s seating inside and out too depending on the weather. Service wasn’t the quickest but the quality of the food made up for it.

Lovely old pub. Staff are friendly and its such a quirky place. If you are tall it will feel tiny! But its worth the visit.

I had a celebratory meal on 3rd July with my daughter and son in law. My crispy duck egg starter with asparagus and hollandaise sauce was delicious. The corn fed chicken main was also great. Our waitress was delightful and very helpful.

It's a neat and old styled restaurant with avg range of food options. Even though we booked a week ago, we're given limited food choice, Say no chicken in the Lunch menu... That was shocking !!! If you have a dish on your menu and you have a week to go, how on earth is it not possible to get this served... Even I felt like the waiter was in a hurry while taking the orders.. Well on a good note, Some of the dishes are really delicious, Say, the coffee cake is a must try... The fish pie you see in the pics was good too.. fish n chips was okay'ish.. IMO, it's a good quiet place to get a beer and have a long conversation..but don't expect too much if you are there just for food..

Came here for a couple of drinks/ something to eat and to enjoy the surroundings. Staff here were super friendly and very welcoming. The food was really nice and the portions particularly big which is always a nice suprise. The environment and location are excellent. You just need to know it's there!

I arrived on a Sunday, and met a friend for Sunday lunch. The menu was mostly traditional Sunday roast, but of far greater quality than simply a "Sunday pub roast". A wonderful succulent lamb shank with Yorkshire pudding, crisp roast potatoes - faultless. In fairness, the price was more than you would pay in the average pub, but worth every penny. Terrific, friendly service in both hotel and restaurant. The morning breakfast was also very good indeed. One of the best sausages I have had in a very long time. My room was large, a generous shower room, all linens and towels of excellent quality. Very comfortable bed. Spotlessly clean. I came to go to a party at the Mill (see review), and returned after the bar had shut, but if you want an early night perhaps avoid room no 1, as it is right over the busy bar! Also bear in mind that this is a very old inn indeed, and absolutely charming, but if you are very tall - mind your head! I recommend the Bull unreservedly

Our Christmas Dinner was as requested although the sauce for white fish rather spicy. Vegetables hot and tasty, sweet was excellent and the chef very accommodating as I wasn't a fan of fixed menu. No coffee offered although mentioned on fixed Christmas lunch menu. Staff were quite attentive but failed to accommodate all diner's sequentially. Not told of service charge which amounted to over 25 pounds upon which a tip was expected. Unfortunately our table was squashed into a smaller space and glasses plus dishes were hard to accommodate. We would certainly try the diner again but try for a better location within the restaurant.

The menu choice and quality of the food really did live up to expectation on our recent visit. Beautiful building and surroundings. The church yard next door which you walk through to get in to the Thames is stunning.

what a great old pub just a short walk up from The River Thames through the church yard. Lovely food, lovely atmosphere is very old surroundings. Just watch out for the 12.5% naughty service charge added to your bill. We had 3 meals delivered to our table and then went back to the bar for drinks taking back empty glasses every time and bringing full ones back ourselves. We left a tip at the end and then noticed the 12.5 % service charge added to the end of our bill (over £20 in our case) a few days later. Other than that I would recommend a lovely pub both on the inside and out especially if mooring on The Thames. Take a torch if going or returning to your boat in the dark as the church yard and tow path is quite dark.

A beautiful and quintessential English pub with a very good bar and tasty pub grub. Unfortunately the rooms were a little grubby (marked carpets and walls). The king's size bed was great however the mattress wasn't particularly comfortable (that could be us) and the extra thick duvet made the already toasty room unbearably hot. Service at breakfast was slow. Lots of potential and a stunning location.

A nice pub for a drink or a meal. A little on the pricier side, but the food and the atmosphere is worth it. Definitely the nicer of the pubs I’ve been to. The fish & chips was great, although the portion was huge!

The bull is a great little Sonning secret as really tucked away. Locals and Inn residents mix nicely , the outside seating with courtyard feeling overlooking the church was lovely. We have been before and would go again. Book directly as u may get a slight discount on the room

This was my first time in the UK. Definitely not my last one, because of this hotel! Everything was a 10/10, service, breakfast and the rooms. Dinner was also amazing, you could really taste the talent of the chef. Ask for Joe as your waiter, he helped us so well. Joe made our night complete, never felt so welcome before!

A beautiful pub. A very old pub that you can also stay in. The staff were helpful. The setting is lovely in an old church yard by the River Thames. We only went for drinks in the courtyard outside, so can't write about the food but the drinks came quickly. It had a lovely atmosphere to the place with a beautiful old fire place and games inside.

Popped in with the wife on Sunday afternoon after a stroll along the Thames. A lovely pub / hotel. Sat outside in the covered area, nice and cozy. I had the Lamb Shank and the wife, the Nut Roast - the food was amazing - check out the photo ! (Did not stay - gave 5* not to lower overall score).

What a wonderful place. Lovely pub, great atmosphere with a friendly and accommodating team. The menu is very good, the food of a high standard and very decently priced. I never leave reviews but thought I’d make the effort as I can’t fault anything (pretty rare for me!)
