Valley Regional Medical Center

Hospital

👍 The hospital is very clean and the interior is very modern with interesting designs. I have not personally been treated for an ailment at this hospital other than minor tests. However, I know numerous patients that have been treated here. Most people I know, for any complicated operation or treatmen... People often mention care, hospital, time, staff, nurse, people, nurses, great, experience, surgery,

The hospital is very clean and the interior is very modern with interesting designs. I have not personally been treated for an ailment at this hospital other than minor tests. However, I know numerous patients that have been treated here. Most people I know, for any complicated operation or treatments, opt to travel to Harlingen or head to a specialized clinic or hospital in San Antonio, Austin or Huston.

I am very pleased with the care I received at Valley Regional. The ER staff were all exceptional in every way. The nurses and the provider went out of their way to ensure I was taken care of and fully informed of my care. As a nurse myself, this was very important to me and they excelled. Thank you Valley Regional for your care 💜. You all should be really proud of the work you do you because definitely make a difference every single day.

The doctors and nurses were great. They were very professional and attentive. They seem to have a shortage of respiratory therapist. Those people were run ragged trying to meet every patients needs. Therefore, we didn't see them much. Special shout out to Celia on the second floor. She is wonderful. Very knowledgeable and caring!!

I have been there 3 times and all 3 have been awful. The staff had me waiting for hours from one waiting room to another, asking from what phone number I had been called to be there, if I had an appointment because my name wasn’t showing, delaying examinations because the doctor’s orders were not found by the staff…just all in all terrible service! Why do I have to show the phone number I was called from? If I receive a call from hospital staff stating “you have an appointment at 11am tomorrow” then I assume my appointment is set. Instead, they want me to jump through hoops to demonstrate that I am not lying. I am going to die before someone actually does their job correctly and I get seen.

The technician “Mary” was awesome! Very courteous, professional and empathetic. I had gone a week prior for a mammogram and everything ran smoothly with the online registration. They were on time and efficient. However, I went a second time for an ultrasound. I did the same online registration but this time I had to wait for over an hour to be called in. The people at the front had put in a wrong time of arrival, therefore they were an hour late to perform my ultrasound and consequently I lost the appointment with my doctor that I had after that. Very nice people at the front but I believe they are shortstaffed

I have been to many hospitals throughout the valley for my daughters, mother & myself and by far Valley Regional has been the best in hospitality, kindness & friendliness. Starting with Dominique who registered my mom to others along the way who just said hi! as they were passing by. My mom has 2 procedures (CT & EEG) and the techs were very kind to my 94 year old mother. Thank you for making this a quick & pleasant experience.

Overall my experience was excellent and I felt well cared for. The reason for 4stars was due to the fact that I am over 65 and my veins roll when trying to place a line. A beginner was sent to me and she tried 3 times in 1 vein in my right hand pushing each time to try to get it to enter further. Then she tried 3 times in the left hand before she said maybe she should let the nurse try. When she came in she searched for a good vein and opted for one 2” above my left wrist on the underside of my arm. ( I am left handed). It felt painful like it wasn’t in correctly, but she assured me it was because it was in a tender area. Within 5-10 minutes I had to call her back because my arm was swelling (the iv fluid was going outside the vein. She stopped the fluid, but left the painful iv in my arm for quite a while 10-15 minutes while she busied herself with other duties (that seemed to me should have waited). I feel this nurse didn’t care for me for some reason and did all this on purpose including sending a young inexperienced person to insert the line with orders most likely to “keep trying”. I was released that afternoon and I feel the nurse knew this was going to happen and I didn’t really need a new line anyway( the old one started bleeding and had to be removed). That line had been in place since my arrival in the ER 2 days prior.

I am a Type 1 Diabetic who probably needs my gallbladder out. Very painful affliction! I fasted and drove 35 minutes for my appointment for imaging only to be told they wouldn’t have the dye they need until the 15! The 15th! They expect me to remain in this pain until then! I wouldn’t bring my dog to this place and I will NEVER set foot in there again! I will share this story with everyone I know! I was warned…I should have listened.

I was scheduled for a C section that morning and even though the wait was long, I understand that they were very busy and had several other patients in line to be seen. I have all the respect for Dr. Hernandez who delivered my baby and his team that day. The postpartum department was great and were super attentive. Because of Covid and other reasons, I had to stay nights by myself and care for my baby when she was brought in. I have to say that I will be extremely grateful for nurse Connie for making my stay as comfortable as possible. She was fast and attentive. To the rest of the team, thank you.

I've been sitting in our room here for over 4 hours from when our doctor said we'd be discharged. I'll trade a good review if anyone sees this and can get us out of here. Update: Ok, we're out. Moving the 1 star to 4. All of the staff was nice, and attentive - the facility is modern and easy to navigate. Not sure what the problem is with discharge - might be best to just lower expectations Update #2 After getting home, and 3 hours later we had to call 911 to get help for the same issue - she went to a different hospital

I had great care in the labor and delivery, nurse Diana and the shadow nurse were very good. Diana is very knowledgeable and comforting, I am glad she was the nurse on shift. She was there several years ago for my third child and I remember her and always will as the best nurse in that unit. The recovery was also well, they tended to me very good with lots of care, the food was also very good, just had an overall good experience during my stay. My baby was also well taken care of the extra day he had to stay.

My family and I were in a severe car accident and were all rushed to Valley Regional Medical Center. We were on a road trip 8 hours away from home which was really awful for all of us but this hospital helped us feel at home tremendously. All of the nurses and everyone who cared for us were so amazing and kind and took care of our every need. We felt very safe and happy here despite what we were going through. Whether it was caring for our injuries or even just grabbing us ice water, the staff was so careful and gracious through it all and for that I am immensely grateful. I could never thank them enough for taking care of my family.

This is one of the best hospitals I've been too, and I've been to many around Texas, best hospital best hospital here in absolutely amazing. All the staff from the front to security to Dr and care and the people that clean the rooms they even went out their way to help me even when I didnt ask, and im one who doesnt like to be a bother or ask for help but when the cleaning people went out there way to help me I was in shock. They are very hospitable and friendly. They make you feel more comfortable than the beds. I'm happy I walked in one way and came out able to breathe the other hospital I went to took my vitals gave me an x-ray and out the door to pharmacy. I recommend this hospital 5 stars all around and all the staff. Everyone at this Hospital deserves a Christmas bonus!

I went to VRMC for an outpatient procedure. Pre-op personnel were outstanding and everything went smoothly. Problems began when I arrived at the hospital. ER rep took me to the wrong place and we had to go elsewhere. Nurse who picked me up in wheelchair to go to 2nd floor put me in a room, threw a folded gown on the bed and told me to take everything off and put gown and socks on. We had to ask someone for help with the gown because it was one of those where the sleeves snap together and we didn’t know what to do with it. Got in bed and someone came to place IV. No one introduced themselves on the second floor. Anyway, person playing IV did so with NO GLOVES and she had NAIL POLISH on. Bleeding at the site went all over her hands and mine. What a mess and very unsanitary. OR staff were outstanding and introduced themselves and explained everything to me. The only downside in the OR was I was not given a bouffant head covering to wear during the surgery. I have had many surgeries and never been bare headed in any of them until this one. Recovery nurse was very unprofessional and kept asking me what was wrong when I couldn’t even talk. She was very curt at times and impatient with me. Upon arrival back in the room, I found my lunch had been delivered 3 hours earlier so it was cold and inedible. Was very happy to be released and go home. Nursing staff in this hospital, at least ones on the second floor, need a lot training on their jobs. Worst experience ever with a nursing staff in a hospital setting.

I’m worried as I will be delivering here at this hospital but the labor and delivery unit is so different compared to the rest of the hospital. My recent visit was something. The hospital lost my identification, during ER registration of my car crash nobody was of help every time I called and they said nothing is there no ID. No compensation was offered I had to purchase a whole new replacement for my identification card online; I’m getting married end of October and I don’t have my ID and who knows when I will. Yet the hospital at fault for loosing it and I couldn’t go see my mother in surgery because I didn’t have a form of identification on me when they were the ones at fault in the first place.

Nurses take forever to check in on any type of alarm. Beds have alarms for fall risk patients. It takes the nurses well over 5 mins to check in on the alarms. What if a patient fell out of bed? Would they have to be laying on the floor with possible injuries until they finally felt like dealing with the issue? Some patients are trying to rest but have to be constantly listening to alarms going off and no one checks to see what the issue is. My mom has been needing her IV changed for over 2 hours because it leaked blood all over her gown and bed and we're still waiting.

I highly recommend Valley Regional Medical Center. I was here from Aug 14- 19 due to diverticulitis, ovarian cyst, infection and fatty liver and was in horrible pain. Everybody was so wonderful from the moment I walked in till I was released. That includes front desk, doctors, nurses, techs, cafeteria people and cleaning personnel. Everyone made me feel taken care of making sure I was always getting meds on time and were there checking on me making sure I was doing better. For a person who’s scared of needles Mari Carmen did an awesome job when poking I barely felt anything. This girl knows what she’s talking about and what she’s doing and I could see the confidence in her. I’d also like to mention Lisa Palomino, I believe was her name. She checked my vitals during the night time. Even-though she could of just walked in there and done her job and left I saw how she went above and beyond to help me get up and waited there patiently making sure I was ok with out me having to ask. Her heart is in the right place. I can tell she loves what she does😊. Raquel Robledo did a great job as well. She engaged in conversation the moment she walked in asking about my health issues how I was doing wishing me I get better and she still remembered details the next time I saw her. That makes a patient feel cared for and that we’re not just one of many that they want out of there already. Last but not least, I’d like to commend Mr. Saul Salinas who I believe is the 2nd floor supervisor. He personally went to my room and asked how everyone was treating me and making sure I was well taken care of and opened to any suggestions or complaints. Im sure I was one of many patients on that one floor alone and he could of easily skipped me. I believe that what he is doing is KEY to a successful work place, specially in a hospital when dealing with people’s health. This type of supervisor work skills are important as they bring accountability and provide more excellent services. Once again thank you all! After almost a week of being there, I was able to return to my kids and to my job a few lbs lighter 😂 lol.

I was extremely pleased with my stay. I felt safe and all the staff was professional and well trained. I was included in all decisions involving my care and surgery. I am recovering quickly at home because of the excellent care I was given during my stay at Valley Regional and the exemplary care of the nurses and therapists.

These people don’t care, matter of fact they make it even harder for you! Employees needing labs or outpatient care are not a priority, even though you give the time for their patients! Came twice already and both times I have had issues! I’ve been waiting two hours this time and they still haven’t registered me, and the excuse is they have to make a new account! When I have been here multiple times before!! Absolutely unprofessional and rude! Next time I will be going somewhere else for sure! Don’t waste your time here!!

I had such an amazing experience, before and after labor. All staff was attentive from the first room I had to the third room I was taken Into. My nurse as well as my baby’s nurses each day were very supportive and understanding of our needs. The lactation consultants were my personal favorite.. I’m a first time mom and I definitely needed all the help I could get starting to breastfeed! Never felt like a bother when I called them in for assistance.

I was treated very well & promptly. They provided me with a battery of tests, including chest X-ray, EKG, blood work. I am, actually, still sick from the Bronchitis. I hope to be getting well soon. Thank you for your wonderful care.

My experience was 5 stars plus. Check in with Gabby was friendly, pleasant, helpful, and efficient, registering was easy and effortless, and Debbie got me set up for my labs before my procedure. When I came back for my procedure later in the week Debbie was there to give me my band and make sure everything was good. Debbie even remembered my name and Debbie was very friendly and kind. Gloria was my nurse and she got me ready for my procedure and answered all of my many questions. All the nurses, technicians, and doctors were great. My overall experience was Fantastic. Thanks to the whole staff. I would recommend Valley Regional Medical Center to everyone

I have never ever been to this hospital and by my only experience there I can't complain. I was treated exceptionally well by all the members of the staff. I went in for a major surgery and from the beginning to my discharge they went above and beyond to make sure I was content and comfortable. I can honestly tell you that every person I came into contact was wonderful. I had my surgery on April 5, 2023 my initials are BG just not to mention my full name but, want to thank everyone of you who took care of me. I would recommend anyone who needs surgery to go there awesome experience. I also want to thank the great surgeon, anesthesiologists not to mention and the people that prepped me. 100% happy. Thank you all again for everything. God Bless

From the moment I arrived the in take lady, made the feeling Welcome and Peaceful. The triage process did not take long as well. Once getting into one of the beds to be checked the nurse's explained every detail about the process. When the Doctor came in to check me out everything was Great, he explained everything in detail and made sure I understood every thing that was going to be check and done to me. Over all, had a Great time despite feeling a bit sick.

The personal that helped me on the day of my surgery, we're all great people. The nurses kept asking me if I was okay, if I needed anything and always asked which language I prefer. I'm Latina, and as my great grandmother would say" Hablar el idioma que están hablando ellas, "speak the language they are using". Overall great customer service, from the start to the end. Thank you

The surgeon wants fantastic the admitting people were fantastic the initial nurse in ER was extremely untrained had difficulty with an IV and did not listen to me when I asked him to stop and try again. I thought There would be some detailed instructions on OT and PT and after a major surgery on my femur and also more than two or three days worth of pain meds I was not provided any of this. Nurses Mary, Dee, and Elizabeth provided excellent care.

Terrible service the first time I took my daughter because she had a very cold and purple temperature of 30 and the nurse told me that that cannot be possible that same day they did an MRI and they didn't give me the results, they preferred to discharge her because she was crying a lot and She was complaining... a few days later I took her again because she had a high temperature and they told me that there was nothing, my daughter got worse every day, she was dehydrated and they never gave her serum again. A few days later they took her again and they even looked at me bad and they treated me badly because every time I took her and they always told me that I had nothing, my daughter was lacking me and that she never had anything 😭😭😭😭😭😭 until I managed to take her to Edinburgh and there they did all the studies for her They found meningitis due to tuberculosis, my girl is no longer the same, she was left with brain damage, paralysis, fluid in the brain, damaged optic nerves. If they had treated her well, none of this was happening, it hurts me to the core to see my girl like this I want I demand justice
