Very fun experience and atmosphere ! I was thrilled to see that they do military discount upon entry. Finding parking was a little tough due to the amount of spots they have available. The park itself, including the bathrooms and walkways, were clean. They had a food truck serving different types of foods and drinks. The views of the waterfall is amazing & the hiking trails also has great views. I will definitely be back.

A beautiful park, well-maintained featuring its natural attributes splendidly. The observation areas are well situated for everyone, including the physical-challenged people. Many shaded areas for families to picnic or just simply taking a break to take in the views. We really enjoyed walking, hiking along the river trail. The trail took us right to the edges of many cliffs, showing the spectacular views of the water. A great area to enjoy nature, just a few steps from the hustle of the city. A must visit in the DC area.

I love Great Falls park for a good day out in nature. There are so many hikes and trails to choose from and can be for all level of hikers/walkers. Its also a great spot for just a picnic or finding look out points over Potomac. I'm pleasantly surprised at the level of care and maintenance that goes into this large of an area including keeping trails clear. Entry fee to the park is $20/car without a National parks annual pass. Love coming back here.

There are three overlooks, and each of them has a great view. Although it’s an easy hike, I would recommend wearing comfortable shoes since there are still some rocks and ups and downs. The first overlook is just next to the visitor center, and the other two are within 10 minutes by walking. The entrance fee is $20, and National park pass can be used here. When the weather is good, parking lots can be filled up quickly. Highly recommend for a half/full day trip!

A beautiful set of falls near DC - worth the trip. Great Falls Park is only about 15 miles north of Washington, DC. This National Park Service location is a very nice park nestled in the heart of nature. It is an 800-acre park that has some great viewing spots for the falls and several trails that follow the river. Their website states, “At Great Falls, the Potomac River builds up speed and force as it falls over a series of steep, jagged rocks and flows through the narrow Mather Gorge. The Patowmack Canal offers a glimpse into the early history of this country. Great Falls Park has many opportunities to explore history and nature, all in a beautiful 800-acre park only 15 miles from the Nation's Capital.” Parking has a large lot with over 100 spots. Next to that is a building that was closed for renovation when I visited. There are several overlooks. One of them is fairly easy for most people to navigate but others are very difficult for those with mobility challenges. The walks are also very nice and fairly gradual for some of the path but then follow over rocks where you should be careful of your footing. The park is worth the visit for the views of the falls and walking the peaceful trails on days with lovely weather. Overall, this is a worthwhile visit for people wanting a nice view of the Potomac origins or a relaxing trek through the woods.

This place is beautiful! You only need to be a walker to experience its beauty. Lots of paved trails. However, there are pathways you can take that are also clearly marked. Plenty of placards to indicate what happened or what is going on at certain locations. There are the overviews of the falls; personally I liked overview 1 best, as it is the closest to the falls!

Wonderful compact park right outside of dc. The network of hiking trails is impressive, with views of the Potomac and the falls, the ruins of the old canal, and a settlement here. We were here when the leaves were changing, which added to the charm. Trails vary from easy to strenuous. Entry is $20 per car, $35 for an annual pass, which makes sense if you plan to visit more than once. The picnic area is beautiful and impressively large. Parking is tight, and it can get crowded, so plan to come early. There are some concessions at the visitors' center and good bathrooms. Kayaking and climbing are available, so we will have to go back.

Beautiful area with nice hiking trails. Well put together with the scenic overlook board walks and history signs. Trails are very rocky, would recommend sturdy close toed shoes or hiking boots. Large picnic area that can accommodate the park's popularity. The park was busy, but not crowded. - photos from October and March

What an amazing view and place to visit. Very easy! Walkable locations even if you are less than spry. Stay away from lookout one. If you're not down for a little bit of off-road rock navigation. Overlook two is even better and overlooked three is the best! Don't be surprised by the $20 entrance fee like I was. They do accept credit card. Many trails that you can walk on as well and lots of beautiful nature

Great Falls Park is a picturesque gem, offering a breathtaking overlook of the Potomac River and the scenic panorama of Maryland state. The well-maintained trail paths provide an enjoyable exploration of the park's natural beauty. It's not just a place for scenic views; families can relish in the joy of barbecues and outdoor fun. With its combination of stunning landscapes and family-friendly amenities, Great Falls Park stands out as an ideal destination for both nature enthusiasts and those seeking a relaxed, enjoyable day outdoors.

This is one of the best falls you should not miss when you visit Washington DC. We visited in March 2022 and during that time there was no entrance fee as visitors center was closed but keep in mind it has entrance fee other times (not sure about price) This falls is walkable distance from visitor center and has below 3 overlooks you should visit Overlook 1 Overlook 2 Overlook 3 Alls spots have unique views. It has abundant parking area and picnic area too

One of the popular parks in VA. $20 for daily pass and $35 for Great Falls annual pass. The annual pass is worth it if you plan on visiting more than once. Very limited mobile connectivity in the area so plan accordingly. A great place to hike, walk, rock-climb, kayak, picnic. Parking available and is only accessible by car. Dog friendly, in case you have any.

Love this place! Every time I turn around my wife and I are finding new hidden gems inside the park. Great hiking trails, running trails with the dogs, you name it! No filters needed on ANY of you our pictures. It’s $20 for one time entry or $35 for an annual pass. Spring for the pass, you’ll want to come back and see what all this place has to offer.

Great Falls Park in Virginia is an absolute gem! The natural beauty and scenic vistas here are unparalleled. Whether you're into hiking, picnicking, or just taking in breathtaking views of the Potomac River and cascading waterfalls, this park has it all. The well-maintained trails provide an excellent opportunity for outdoor enthusiasts to connect with nature, and the visitor center offers informative exhibits. It's a fantastic destination for a day trip or a weekend adventure, and I highly recommend it to anyone seeking a rejuvenating and awe-inspiring outdoor experience.

Great Falls Park is a beautiful space in the midst of nature to spend a weekend afternoon at. There are walking trails in the park, and the park has three viewpoints for panoramic views of the Great Falls of the Potomac River. The entrance fee is 10 bucks per head for people on foot and 20 per car. There are many benches for people to sit and feast. The park is dog-friendly, and there are restrooms around.

Nice location for family time in the park. I visited this place in the afternoon with my family because it’s get busier in evening and hard to find parking. The park has 14 different sight seeing that you need to explore and distance is approx 4.3 mile. I personally like the spot 6 where you go down to the rocks to reach flowing water. If you bring camping ⛺️ stuff and grill would to nice to spent time with family. There is no food inside, so you need to bring your own. Sight will close at dark so be mindful of your time. Entry is only $20 / car and it’s valid for 7 days.

What a beautiful place there are three scenic outlooks that are within walking distance from the parking lot. The fee to enter the park is $20 but you can also get an annual pass to get into all the national parks all over the country. This is worthwhile if you never seen this park the water flow is incredible and you can see a couple of people trying to navigate these rapids on their kayaks.

Very pleasant and beautiful place. Breathtaking scenic views all around, with the amazing sound of Potomac river. There are mainly 3 Outlooks to experience the views of this Potomac river fall from different angles. The 3rd one is kind of complete view, would recommend to go to all three, as they are adjacent to each other. If you want to chill and sit for sometime near the river, there are multiple spots to go down the rocks. You might see many people Kayaking too. Very peaceful and serene place to experience the natural beauty. Must go.

Visiting from CA and I have to say this place is absolutely Breath taking! Only walked about a mile up the trail and there was so much history and so many things to explore. The sound of the falls can be heard in different tones as you make the hike. From roaring like traffic to silent and still. If you are a local and haven't seen this spot, you're definitely missing out! If you're a visitor, then it's a must see!

What a beautiful place to go for a walk! you really enjoy the view and the constant noise of the water throughout the trail. It is a place that I recommend visiting on weekdays, on weekends many people go and you cannot appreciate the true beauty of the Billy Goat trail.

The Great Falls are beautiful! They’re so awe inspiring to watch them flow. While I was watching the people rafting I got to understand how dangerous they could be but that doesn’t take away from their beauty, be careful around them!

Well maintained National Park on the Virginia side of the Potomac River with breathtaking views of the falls and numerous hiking trails. Picnic area near the Visitor Center with charcoal grills and there was a Food Truck there today. Park entrance fees are $20 per vehicle unless you purchase an annual pass for $35 or have a Lifetime Pass. Great family fun!

The two rangers at the booth were very helpful and friendly. I was lucky to go at a time of day when they could share some details and highlights with me without holding up traffic. I appreciated their personalities and knowledge. As for the park, what a wonderful time to go. I felt like I had the place to myself and was able to stroll down the mostly level trails, climb some rocks, and enjoy some beautiful history as well as nature. It was a very peaceful walk and with 15 miles of trails, it was quiet and perfect to walk with a jacket on this time of year. I'd take the less people, cooler weather experience any day. Go check this place out and hopefully the visitors center will be up and running again to offer even more excitement. Some of the signs are getting hard to read and would benefit from some updating soon but I was able to read most of it. The first overlook also has a nice ramp down to it in good condition for wheelchairs and strollers to make the trek.

We went on Veterans Day (Saturday) and I must say, great place for a hike! The outlooks are close to the parking, and the river trail does loop around if you take the inner trail coming back near Sandy landing. Well worth it to visit, there were a few rock climbers, plenty of people and dogs, but not overly crowded. There was enough space for anyone that wanted to look over the ridge. Keep in mind though, it's $20 entry normally per vehicle unless you have a pass.

A not to be missed destination. Great view and an even greater stroll next to the river. There are a number of trails which one can explore. Definitely go for all of them. One car pass costs $20 valid for 7 days.

Great park. The visitor center was closed when I visited. Nice view of the falls. The trail and overlooks were well maintained. Took a star off because I think the fee is too high for what this is. I used my America the Beautiful pass, but would have been disappointed if I paid full price.

What a lovely place to visit, the border of two states - Virginia and Maryland. A peaceful place to go for a walk, right in the middle of the city. The Potomac river reminded me of rivers from Nepal and believe me you won't be disappointed. They charge you at entrance.

We love love love great falls. My family have been hiking here for 3 generations. My granny as a teen and my mom as a young girl in the pics. My kids love coming here. I didnt know snakes climbed trees until I saw it, yikes. Short videos of hiking. Enjoy. Each trail cam be about an hour or longer hike. One trail is kid friendly. Climb at you own risk. Where proper shoes rocks can be Slippery

Good for bringing out the camera and watching the sun go down. Decided to combine photo taking and jogging here. The trail is long to get to the next bathroom, so it might be a bit off a stretch. Trail is also elevated at some points, so good for exercise.

A site to be seen if you are around the DMV area. You could hike, see different waterfalls and much more. NB// if you going on summer make sure to go early morning before the sun gets too hot.

There are plenty of good walking places and trails in Northern Virginia, but if you want great nature close enough to DC, this is one of the place best places you can go. The rock formations are quite stunning, the cascading whittle springs and big springs are beautiful to listen to and look at even on this rainy day. We also saw five eagles perched in a nearby tree. It would be great to go on longer hikes but we were only able to spend a little time here. It will cost you twenty or thirty dollars to get in. Worth it if you have time to explore and meditate in this quiet and beautiful location. This is as beautiful a place if you can find around here without tracking all the way out to some amazing streams and mountains in West Virginia.

  • 5/5 Cerenna R. 2 years ago on Google
Definitely a go-to destination in the area. There are a couple scenic points to see the falls and like many things, you have to see it to get a real feel for just how amazing it is! There are other trails that extend beyond the falls. One trail follows the river and offers some fun rock scrambling. The trails are relatively flat without much elevation gain. So the difficulty is easier. There is a lot of outdoor rock climbing all along the river! If you're into that, try it out. I've climbed here many times, but the early bird gets the worm on the weekends (early bird gets first pick on where to climb). There are two parking lots when you enter the park. Admission is $20 per vehicle or something close to that price. But don't forget you can buy a national parks pass and see other parks year-round! There is a visitor center, bathrooms, picnic tables, and tons of beautiful nature

Visited Great Falls Park in October of 2021. It was beautiful. There are quite a few observation decks close to the parking area and information center. If you travel down the hiking paths you can find more beautiful views. I recommend going early this place gets full quickly.

Great place to visit with cool surroundings. They don’t have enough rest rooms. All the view points are wheel chair accessible. Thrash bins were full and vultures were pulling the trash around. They have barbecue stands but not cleaned. The restroom are closed after 5:30 pm. $20 entry fee for one vehicle.

  • 5/5 Marissa C. 1 year ago on Google
Wonderful park! There are many options of walking trails as well as spots for rock climbing and kayaking. The trails can be difficult to navigate as many of them include climbing up and over rocks so be sure to wear good shoes. However if this isn’t necessarily accessible to you I would suggest the carriage house trail which also leads to a beautiful view of the water.

This was our first time visiting Great Falls Park! It was a bit of a challenge to enter the park due to limited parking spots at times but we ended up stopping into the Local Safeway to get some snacks before trying to enter again. We were able to drive in with no issues. There is a $20 per car fee that you pay when entering the gates. The park is amazing and there are lots of trails to explore! We loved that it was shady in spots. We went on a day that was breezy and sunny and thoroughly enjoyed walking around the area!

Beautiful water falls. This National park has 6 different trails. Each trail takes at least 1-2 hours to finish and some trails are difficult requires to climb rocks. The visitors center is closed for upcoming construction but snack shop is opened.

  • 5/5 Mike J. 11 months ago on Google
Dramatic views of the rocky falls. Multiple overlooks, easily accessible, with several trails that run north and south along the river. Visitor center with restrooms, snacks, and picnic tables located directly adjacent to the main falls. Highly recommend.

  • 5/5 Chris L. 11 months ago on Google
A beautiful national park with scenic views. The three overlook next to the visitor center means u can enjoy the spectacular views of the falls without hiking. We went on a Thursday and there was still plenty of parking. We hiked along the river trail and then on to the difficult run trail. Unfortunately we could not find a safe way back to the carpark and had to double back to the river run trail and then take the old carriage way. The river trail becomes a bit of a rock scramble towards the end but the views along the way were worth the effort.

  • 5/5 Anuja R. 11 months ago on Google
I really loved both the sides - VA as well as MD, but the view and walk is more scenic at the latter and more accessible at the former. We went later in the day so we found ample parking near both visitor centers, but I've heard there are hour long waits at VA park entrance during peak hours. Clean property, an occasional food truck on MD side, huge picnic area but toilets were shut on VA side. Entrance is free with National Parks pass, or you can purchase for one time entry or separate Great Falls annual pass. Beautiful destination, worth returning for all.

  • 5/5 Mike 1 year ago on Google
Great place to come with the family. We got ice-cream and slushies for the kids. Great views a nice walk to get them out of the house. Plenty of picnic space and grills. People had friendly dogs who loved to be petted. We went on a free weekend so pretty crowded. If you have an active duty service member they can also get in free. Highly recommended to go on VA and MD side
